Media focus is Planned Parenthood shooting while ignoring violence at other medical centers

“Shots fired at clinic,” those are words we have all heard over and over again this weekend after a deranged man, Robert Lewis Dear, went to a Planned Parenthood and shot and killed three people including officer Garrett Swasey, unrelated to the abortion clinic, injuring five officers and four civilians.

Shots fired Planned Parenthood

But, I am not talking about Planned Parenthood, I am talking about an October shooting at a VA Clinic that the national media has not reported about. I wonder why? It’s a clinic, involves a gun, and police right? All ingredients for a sensational story- one would think.

The pro-abortion media tries to paint Planned Parenthood as a regular “health center” yet, when there is a shooting at a Planned Parenthood it becomes headline story for days, weeks, months on end while other medical facility shootings take back stage or get no reporting at all.

One example is this one in Rockford, Illinois, September 28,2015.

From ABC7Chicago:

Steven Dummer W=315&MaxH=315

A gunman who held police at bay for hours inside a medical clinic in Rockford after firing shots inside the building is now in custody, police say. Police said Steven Dummer, of Rochelle, opened fire on the second floor of the Crusader Community Health Clinic in the 1100-block of Broadway around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Anywhere from two to five shots were fired, police said. Police responded quickly and all patients and staff made it out of the building safely. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the Rockford Register Star:

After a four-hour standoff with Rockford police, Steven A. Dummer, 36, of Rochelle, surrendered without incident and was arrested on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Winnebago County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 29. It was not clear Tuesday why Dummer was at the clinic or what prompted him to shoot. However, police did say he had threatened suicide. While Dummer negotiated with police from a second-floor lobby, Eggers said the staff went above and beyond evacuating the clinic. “We had pediatricians carrying children out,” he said. “We had physicians caring for people in the parking lot. We had staff driving people home who couldn’t get to their cars in the parking lot. We have a pharmacy in the clinic, but patients weren’t able to use it. So we had staff picking up prescriptions at other locations.

In June of this year a doctor was shot and killed at a Texas medical clinic, reports India West:

Indian American cardiologist Suresh Gadasalli, who performed the world’s first simultaneous hybrid revascularization, was shot dead by his friend and business associate who then committed suicide in Odessa, Texas, police said. Gadasalli, 53, was shot dead by 60-year-old patient and business associate Ayyasamy Thangam at the Healthy Heart Center June 11, according to a release issued by the Odessa Police Department.

His patients reacted in shock as NewsWest9 reported:

A day after Dr. Suresh Gadasalli was shot to death at the Healthy Heart Clinic, his patients are remembering their caretaker and friend.
“I was shocked,” said Cathy Connally. “I couldn’t believe it. I said, ‘No, that can’t be true. He was so nice.’ I thought, ‘who would hurt him?'” ….Thursday afternoon, tragedy struck when one of Dr. Gadasalli’s patients and business partners, Ayyasamy Thangam, shot Gadasalli multiple times before ending his own life. “It said Doctor Shot at Healthy Heart Center and I thought, ‘wait.’ I looked at my friend and I said it’s the Healthy Heart Center. I said it’s Dr. Gadasalli,”

A Boston cardiologist was shot and killed on his way into his offices this past January, reports the Wall Street Journal:

Police said they believe the apparent gunman, 55-year-old Stephen Pasceri of Millbury, Mass., was targeting Dr. Davidson when the gunman entered the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center about 11 a.m. Mr. Pasceri went to the surgeon’s second-floor office and asked to speak to him, police said. After an altercation in a foyer between the waiting room and an examination room, the assailant shot Dr. Davidson twice, police said. Mr. Pasceri was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an examination room, they said.

In September, an Ohio man had planned to take several weapons to a clinic before police apprehended him, according to this Fox8 report:

Charles R. Shaw, 76, killed his own son during an argument on Sherwin Drive in Twinsburg Tuesday evening, police said. According to the preliminary report from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Charles Shaw was angry about his medications from Cleveland Clinic. “Charles got two weapons, a rifle and a 38 caliber, and was going to Cleveland Clinic to do some damage,” the report said. “Scott Shaw attempted to stop his father and was then shot by his father.” When officers arrived, Charles Shaw was reloading his gun near the body of 55-year-old Scott R. Shaw. Police said Charles Shaw refused to put down his weapon and pointed it at police. That’s when an officer fatally shot him.

And this month, a man killed his step-daughter and himself at a Florida hospital. November 23, 2015 WTSP reported:

A man killed a woman visiting a hospital Monday then turned the gun on himself Monday morning, authorities said. Alonna Tedesco, 41, was shot on the third floor of Florida Hospital, north of downtown Tampa, then was rushed to the emergency room, where she later died, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Col. Donna Lusczynski said. The shooter, who also died, has been identified as Tedesco’s step-father, 70-year-old Steven Reynolds.

In January, VA psychologist Timothy Fjordbak, was allegedly shot and killed by Jerry Serrato, on the fourth floor of an El Paso Veteran Affairs Clinic (read here).

In January, a California man, Vincent Heard, was arrested on suspicion of shooting a nurse inside a mental health urgent care facility. The nurse, a 24-year-old man whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound. (more here).

MEDIA MISLEADS

Robert Lewis Dear EefUYAAkYmH

The media would lead you to believe that shootings at medical facilities happen only to abortion clinics, but this is misleading. While there have been 8 other people killed in the past 40 years at abortion clinics, there are numerous incidents at medical facilities across the nation that do not involve abortion.

According to a study in Annals of Emergency Medicine, in 2000-2011 the United States had 154 hospital-related shootings.

91 (59%) inside the hospital and 63 (41%) outside on hospital grounds.
    235 injured or dead victims.
The Emergency Department environs were the most common site (29%), followed by the parking lot (23%), and patient rooms (19%).
Most events involved a determined shooter with a strong motive defined by a grudge (27%), suicide (21%), “euthanizing” an ill relative (14%), and prisoner escape (11%).
Ambient society violence (9%) and mentally unstable patients (4%) were comparatively infrequent.
The most common victim was the perpetrator (45%).
Hospital employees composed of 20% of victims.
-Physicians (3%) and nurses (5%) victims were relatively infrequent.
In 23% of shootings with the Emergency Department, the weapon was a security officer’s gun that was taken by the perpetrator.

According to stats collected by the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, homicides involving shootings occurred at Dentist offices, Chiropractor, Outpatient Care Centers, Kidney Dialysis centers, hospital and surgical centers as well as psychological and mental health clinics.

Fatal occupation workplace health shootings'

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), in 2013, healthcare workers reported an estimated 9,200 workplace violence incidents, with the majority of these perpetrated by patients or their family members. This represents 67% of all nonfatal violence-related injuries from an industry that only represents 11.5% of all workers.

A 2013 report released by the Federal Bureau of Investigations indicated an increasing trend in workplace active shooter incidents from an average of 6.4 incidents per year for the first 7 years of the study to an average of 16.4 per year in the last 7 years of the study. Some recent studies have indicated that the healthcare environment is not excluded from the increase in this particular type of violence. One recent study on hospital-based shootings reported an increase from 9 active shooter incidents per year during the 2000 to 2005 time period to almost 17 per year during the 2006 to 2011 time period.

Workplace homicide shootings

The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides an annual count of fatal work injuries in the United States, including homicides. From 2006 to 2010, an average of 551 workers per year were killed as a result of work-related homicides. In 2010 (the last year for which final data are available), CFOI reported a total of 518 workplace homicides, or 11 percent of all fatal work injuries that occurred that year. A total of 77 of those were multiple-fatality homicide incidents in which two or more workers were killed, including 69 homicides and 8 assailant suicides, all of whom were in work status at the time of the incident.

Shootings accounted for 78 percent of all workplace homicides in 2010 (405 fatal injuries). More than four-fifths (83 percent) of these workplace homicides from shootings occurred in the private sector, while only 17 percent of such shootings occurred in government.

While I strongly condemn any violence, I find the way the media reports on abortion clinic violence to be slanted in favor of the abortion agenda. Otherwise, every health clinic or medical facility shooting would be national news, and it is not. This, of course, does not mitigate any outrage nor condemnation of what Dear did whatever his motives end up being.

But, if you are to look honestly you can see that the national media sensationalizes violence at abortion or Planned Parenthood clinics while not reporting shootings at all other medical centers the same way. They censor the acts of violence against Christians, churches, and pro-life people. In addition, while the topic is Planned Parenthood, the media will resurrect the murder of late term abortion doctor George Tiller while continuing to censor the fact that women die from abortion including a Black women who was left bleeding INSIDE Planned Parenthood. For a look at that, just do a search on this site for Tonya Reaves.

Although speculations that Dear was motivated by recent Center for Medical Progress videos which documented how Planned Parenthood engaged in a baby parts harvesting operation, his neighbors in North Carolina say they never heard him discuss abortion or religion. According to reports, many considered him strange and even delusional, while some also assumed he might be dangerous and kept their kids indoors when they saw him. Others called Dear weird and said they kept an eye on him because he seemed paranoid, telling people that he was a government agent and knew important secrets as a result.

Whatever authorities or the media claim Dear’s motive is, one thing is for certain, he is not pro-life!
