Pro-life Boycott of Girl Scouts Launched Over Abortion Support

Pro-Life Waco launches national boycott of Girl Scout cookie sales

Waco, Texas As more and more examples of Girl Scouts of the United States of America’s (GSUSA) support and acclamation of abortion rights activists come to light, Pro Life Waco calls for a “Cookiecott” of the reported $700 million in Girl Scout cookies sold each year. The most recent outrage is GSUSA praise for Wendy Davis and Kathleen Sebelius as role models for girls. Both are adamantly pro-abortion—even for late-term abortions.

Over a dozen national pro-life organizations are supporting the boycott. Boycott participants are asked to give adults at cookie sales a flyer explaining why they are not purchasing cookies this year.

Radio ads (listen here) for the boycott begin to run on Thursday January 30 in Waco (KBBW), Plainview (KVOP), Temple (KTEM), Midland/Odessa (KCRS), and Navasota (KWBC).

John Pisciotta will direct this boycott for Pro-Life Waco as he did the Waco boycott of cookie sales in 2004. For that controversy, the local Girl Scout council sponsored a Planned Parenthood program for a decade and honored the executive director of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility with a “Woman of Distinction” award.

According to Pisciotta “The radio ad makes it clear that the catalyst prompting this boycott is the recent use of social media by GSUSA to promote Texas Senator Wendy Davis and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as worthy role models for our children. Davis and Sebelius are notorious for their support of abortion on demand – including late-term abortion.”

“The Davis and Sebelius outrage is only the tip of the iceberg for the legitimate concerns about the Girl Scouts that have been brought to light over the last decade,” states Pro-Life Waco President John Pisciotta. As part of this effort, Pro-Life Waco is providing Cookiecott participants with an informational flier they can download and distribute to inform others of the many issues surrounding the Girl Scout organization.

Additional points of concern leading to this year’s Cookiecott include:

• GSUSA, with over 2 million girl members, maintains relationships with many pro-abortion advocacy groups.
• Girl Scout curriculum, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout Council, commends pro-abortion organizations and individuals as role models.
• Across the country, local Girl Scout Councils honor and promote both abortion rights advocates and pro-abortion politicians.
• GSUSA is the largest member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), making up a third of its 10 million members and paying approximately $1.5 million annually to WAGGGS. WAGGGS aggressively promotes youth reproductive, sexual, and abortion rights.

Pro-Life Waco is not alone in taking action regarding the Girl Scout concerns. Last month, Missouri Right to Life released an updated Policy Statement on Girl Scouts USA, urging citizens “to consider carefully whether to participate in Girl Scouts or support them in any way.”

Kelly File roundtable on controversy over Girl Scouts and Wendy Davis

Why Should You Be Concerned?

Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) recently promoted pro-abortion politicians, Senator Wendy Davis and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, as women to be honored for their accomplishments in 2013. Many other pro-life concerns exist about the Girl Scout organization including:

GSUSA, with over 2 million girl members, maintains relationships with many pro-abortion advocacy groups.

Girl Scouts’ curriculum for girls, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout council, recommends pro-abortion role models/organizations such as Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, Amnesty International, Population Council, ACLU, National Organization For Women (NOW) and others.

GSUSA and local Girl Scout councils connect girls to resources promoting abortion rights and inappropriate sexual content via official Girl Scout social media accounts.

Across the country, local Girl Scout councils honor and promote abortion rights advocates and pro-abortion politicians; suggest girls work with organizations that fight for abortion on demand; and invite girls to attend events related to abortion rights advocacy and other controversial issues.

GSUSA is the largest member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), making up one-third of its 10 million members worldwide and paying approximately 1.5 million dollars annually to WAGGGS based on the number of registered GSUSA members.

WAGGGS, which states that “anyone who is a Girl Guide or Girl Scout is automatically a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts,” aggressively promotes youth reproductive/abortion and sexual rights, specifically on behalf of its 10 million members.

I had two Girl Scouts come to the house Tuesday I think it was. Told them I didn’t like how they are in with pro abortion. I asked if they knew that. One shook head yes one shook her head no. Then the one who shook her head yes said no she didn’t know that. Without saying anything they turned around and left. Pretty rude.
