Anti-Christian, Anti-Conservative, Pro-Choice terrorist who shot FRC offices sentenced today in court

floyd-corkinsThe man convicted of shooting an unarmed security guard and building manager at the Family Research Council on August 15, 2012, saying he wanted to kill “conservative right-wing Christians,” was sentenced to 25 years in prison today, was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison.

Floyd Lee Corkins II had plotted to kill “as many people as possible” at conservative organizations he viewed as anti-gay before he was stopped by the former guard, Leonardo Johnson.

Corkins entered the lobby armed with a loaded semi-automatic pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition, and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He started firing at FRC’s building manager Leo Johnson who heroically tackled the shooter after a gunshot shattered his arm.

Today Chief Judge Richard Roberts of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia sentenced Floyd Lee Corkins II, the perpetrator of a terrorist act at the Family Research Council (FRC) on August 15, 2012. Judge Roberts sentenced Corkins to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in February to three felony counts that included the charge of committing an act of terrorism while armed.

“The carnage you wanted did not happen only because an ordinary man showing extraordinary courage stopped you,” Roberts said before announcing Corkins’s prison term. “Killing human beings is not political activism. It is criminal behavior.”

In arguing for a stiffer sentence of 45 years, federal prosecutors Thursday equated Corkins with the man behind Monday’s shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard that left 12 people dead.

“Mr. Corkins was this close to accomplishing that,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney T. Patrick Martin. “He was no less determined than the Navy Yard gunman. He was no less prepared.”

Corkins, 29, was easily able to purchase a semiautomatic pistol from a Virginia gun shop the week before the August 2012 shooting even though he was suffering from a chronic mental illness. Defense attorney David Bos recommended a sentence of 111 / 2 years and said the case was about “too easy access to firearms.”

Police found a hand-written list in Corkins’s front pants pocket with the names of three other socially conservative organizations. Had he succeeded with the shooting, Corkins told FBI agents he planned to go directly to the second organization on his list. Read More

Mr. Leo Johnson, who ultimately stopped Mr. Corkins’ attack, delivered a statement before the court, as did FRC President Tony Perkins. Mr. Perkins delivered his statement on behalf of the FRC staff.

Mr. Leo Johnson made the following comments during the sentencing:

Leo Johnson FRC 37479EEF-E101-CCF7-F27D84783C0327EF

“The actions of Floyd Lee Corkins have greatly impacted my life. I often experience feelings of anger and frustration when I think about all of the things that I have had, and continue, to endure both physically and psychologically as a result of this crime. I have had to endure surgery, with at least two more scheduled; painful, life-threatening blood clots which developed in my right lung; grueling physical therapy sessions; multiple medications and numerous doctors appointments as a result of this crime. My family was put under tremendous stress as well, as they tried to cope with the shock of what happened and the fear of not knowing whether I was even alive, let alone going to be OK.”

Mr. Perkins made the following comments during the sentencing:

“The attack at our headquarters did not just harm Leo. As the Court knows, Mr. Corkins’ stated intention was to kill as many FRC staff as possible to send a political message, a chilling, political message. But for Leo’s heroic conduct and the protective hand of the Lord, this crime might have ended like the tragic shooting that occurred earlier this week here in D.C.”

To read the complete FRC staff statement delivered by Mr. Perkins, click here: http://downloads.frc.org/EF/EF13I54.pdf

“As the Court knows, Mr. Corkins’ stated intention was to kill as many FRC staff as possible to send a political message. But for Leo’s heroic conduct, and the protective hand of the Lord, this crime might have ended as one of the worst acts of domestic terrorism the District of Columbia has ever seen. Today we are not seeking vengeance, but we do seek justice…

Many on our staff and in their families have suffered ongoing emotional and psychological harm and have changed their daily lives in response to the attack. Every day, our staff has to deal with the fact that each of us was a potential victim. The facts show that he planned his attack in great detail and hoped for massive casualties…. prosecutors revealed that Mr. Corkins had obtained our building location from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website.

He was clearly inspired by the [SPLC]’s labeling of FRC as a “hate group” based on our belief that marriage can only take place between one man and one woman… His goal and that of the SPLC is to silence those with whom they disagree. In a civil society, shutting down debate is not how reasonable people and organizations operate. Intimidating and bullying others shreds the “ordered liberty” of which our Founders wrote and for which they advocated, and places all of us in jeopardy of losing our sacred rights as militant extremists claim the public square exclusively for themselves.”

Of particular interest is :

Patricia Ann Cimaroli Massari and her unborn child N-11 – Her child was young!
According to this tribute of her, On the morning of Sept. 11, Louis and Patricia Massari had a special reason to get up early. Louis ironed Patricia”s clothes so she wouldn”t be late for work, while Patricia did a home pregnancy test in the bathroom. The result was positive.

“She cried, I cried, we talked,” said Louis. “I was overwhelmed with excitement, and at the same time … was like, “What do we do? What do we do?””

On September 11, 2001, Vanessa, who was four months pregnant, escaped from the South Tower. However, her quest for survival had fallen short. She ran as the South Tower collapsed. She did not make it. Her body, and in it the small body of her unborn child, was pulled from the rubble of the fallen tower on September 24th, just ten feet from an alley between Towers IV and V.VanessaIMG_0543

“I’m so happy the baby is mentioned,” Pregnant victim, Patricia Signer’s mother, told NewsDay. “Because that baby will always be in my heart.”

Acknowledging the unborn underscores how deeply the attacks devastated families and their futures, said 9/11 memorial president Joe Daniels.

“It’s a special part of the memorial,” he said. “It reinforces that message about the whole project that the folks were just like us, that they were about to start these lives. . . . It reminds us that they were who we are.

He said memorial officials asked victims’ next of kin about the prospect of noting pregnancies after learning that Smith’s unborn child was mentioned on the 1993 bombing memorial that was destroyed on 9/11.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial honoring victims of the 1995 bombing is another precedent. It lists three unborn children under the names of mothers-to-be in the Field of Empty Chairs.
There were likely more than 11 pregnant victims of the 9/11 attacks, though not all their families would have known about pregnancies and not all would have wanted the fact mentioned, Daniels said.

Lest we forget 55 million more unborn victims:

Liberal Occupy Wall Street activist Busted for Weapons, Terrorist Book, media silent !

According to the blog PoliticaStream
OWSarrested2

The privileged daughter of a prominent city doctor, and her boyfriend — a Harvard grad and Occupy Wall Street activist — have been busted for allegedly having a cache of weapons and a bombmaking explosive in their Greenwich Village apartment.

Morgan Gliedman — who is nine-months pregnant — and her baby daddy, Aaron Greene, 31, also had instructions on making bombs, including a stack of papers with a cover sheet titled, “The Terrorist Encyclopedia,’’ sources told The Post yesterday.

People who know Greene say his political views are “extreme,” the sources said.

Cops found the stash in the couple’s West Ninth Street home Saturday when they went there to look for Gliedman, 27, who was wanted for alleged credit-card theft.

The New York post reported that Aaron Greene was a member of Occupy Wall Street. According to the UK Daily Mail, the New York Post reported that Greene was a member of Occupy Wall Street, though an NYPD spokesman told MailOnline that his connection to the group was still being investigated.

According to DNA INFO:

The pregnant ex-prep schooler and her activist boyfriend kept a cache of weapons inside their apartment, including an explosive chemical and a how-to guide to terrorism, according to a criminal complaint.

Morgan Gliedman, the 27-year-old daughter of a prominent Manhattan doctor, and Aaron Greene were busted Saturday at 6 p.m. when cops with a search warrant raided their Greenwich Village apartment on West 9th Street, the complaint says.

Cops, including members of the NYPD’s intelligence division, recovered a plastic container of HMTD, a highly explosive powdery substance used for making bombs, according to the complaint in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Gliedman, who grew up on Park Avenue, and Greene are also accused of having chemical precursors to HMTD, a sawed-off shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition in their bedroom.

Cops also found sheets of paper with the cover page entitled “the terrorist encyclopedia,” the complaint says. The couple also allegedly had instructions on manufacturing explosive materials and bombs.

The two are charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the first and second degree. The criminal complaint says the pair intended to use the explosive and the shotgun against someone or property.

Greene, 31, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Sunday, sources said. Gliedman has not yet been arraigned. The Daily News reported that her arraignment was delayed because she had gone into labor.

Cyber attacks on the rise from rogue nations could have devastating effects on US

From the Washington Guardian:

In a blunt admission designed to prod action, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta Thursday night told business executives there has been a sudden escalation of cyber terrorism and that attackers have managed to gain access to control systems for critical infrastructure.

In a speech in New York City, Panetta said the recent activities have raised concerns inside the U.S. intelligence community that cyber terrorism might be combined with other attacks to create massive panic and destruction on par with the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

“These attacks mark a significant escalation of the cyber threat. And they have renewed concerns about still more destructive scenarios that could unfold,” he said. “For example, we know that foreign cyber actors are probing America’s critical infrastructure networks.

“They are targeting the computer control systems that operate chemical, electricity and water plants, and those that guide transportation throughout the country,” he added. “We know of specific instances where intruders have successfully gained access to these control systems. We also know they are seeking to create advanced tools to attack these systems and cause panic, destruction, and even the loss of life.”

Current and former U.S. officials tell the Washington Guardian that U.S. investigators have growing evidence that Iran was behind a recent wave of cyber attacks, particularly those that temporarily paralyzed energy interests in two Middle East countries that are key U.S. allies.

Panetta stopped short in his speech of formally accusing Iran but left no doubt America has strong suspicions about Tehran. “Iran has also undertaken a concerted effort to use cyberspace to its advantage,” he declared.

Panetta’s speech came as the Obama administration is pressing ahead with its own cyber security measures using executive powers after reaching a stalemate with congressional Republicans and their business allies over sweeping legislation to change the nation’s cybersecurity posture.

“This is a pre-9/11 moment,” Panetta told the business executives, referring to the period before the terror attacks 11 years ago when signs of a mounting threat were overlooked. “The attackers are plotting. Our systems will never be impenetrable, just like our physical defenses are not perfect. But more can be done to improve them. We need Congress, and we need all of you, to help in that effort.”

Panetta, who has been sounding alarm for month about the potential for a “Cyber Pearl Habor”, gave unusually blunt description of three recent attacks — one against U.S. financial interests and two against Middle East energy interests – that have raised the alarm. Defense officials said classified information was declassified so Panetta could give specific details about the nature of the attacks.

The defense secretary, who previously served as President Obama’s CIA director, said consecutive attacks on Saudi Arabia’s ARAMCO oil company and Qatar’s Ras Gas known launched by a virus known as Shamoon were “probably the most destructive attack that the private sector has seen to date. “

“Shamoon included a routine called a ‘wiper,’ coded to self-execute. This routine replaced crucial system files with an image of a burning U.S. flag. It also put additional “garbage” data that overwrote all the real data on the machine. The more than 30,000 computers it infected were rendered useless, and had to be replaced,” Panetta explained.

The defense secretary offered an assessment of possible future doomsday scenarios feared by U.S. intelligence in which cyber terrorism could be combined with waves of attacks.

“An aggressor nation or extremist group could gain control of critical switches and derail passenger trains, or trains loaded with lethal chemicals. They could contaminate the water supply in major cities, or shut down the power grid across large parts of the country.,” he said.

“The most destructive scenarios involve cyber actors launching several attacks on our critical infrastructure at once, in combination with a physical attack on our country,” he added. “Attackers could also seek to disable or degrade critical military systems and communications networks.”

More power to the Prez: Obama Quietly Extends National Emergency Declaration

Posted in freedom, Obama with tags , , , , on October 10, 2012 by saynsumthn

Eleven years later, President Obama has quietly extended the national emergency declaration first issued by former President George W. Bush after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

The declaration, which has to be reissued each year, invokes several war-time powers that give the president greater control of the military. Obama cited the continuing threat of a terrorist attack in justifying his decision to continue the now 11-year national emergency.

“The terrorist threat that led to the declaration on September 14, 2001, of a national emergency continues. For this reason, I have determined that it is necessary to continue in effect after September 14, 2012, the national emergency with respect to the terrorist threat,” Obama said September 11.

Despite the winding-down of the war in Afghanistan – originally launched in 2001 in retaliation for the 9/11 attacks – Obama has again granted himself special war-time powers by declaring that a national emergency still exists because of the attacks of 11 years ago.

Under federal law, a national emergency declaration lasts for only one year, meaning that the 9/11 national emergency has now been re-declared 10 times.

A post on the Official White House website states:

Message — Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Persons Who Commit, Threaten to Commit, or Support Terrorism

TO THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES:

Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)) provides for the automatic termination of a national emergency unless, within the 90 day period prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in the Federal Register and transmits to the Congress a notice stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date. In accordance with this provision, I have sent to the Federal Register for publication the enclosed notice, stating that the national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism is to continue in effect beyond September 23, 2012.

The crisis constituted by the grave acts of terrorism and threats of terrorism committed by foreign terrorists, including the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, in New York and Pennsylvania and against the Pentagon, and the continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on United States nationals or the United States that led to the declaration of a national emergency on September 23, 2001, has not been resolved. These actions pose a continuing unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. For these reasons, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism, and maintain in force the comprehensive sanctions to respond to this threat.

BARACK OBAMA

THE WHITE HOUSE,
September 11, 2012.

And this one:

Notice — Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Certain Terrorist Attacks

NOTICE

CONTINUATION OF THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY WITH RESPECT TO CERTAIN TERRORIST ATTACKS

Consistent with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency previously declared on September 14, 2001, in Proclamation 7463, with respect to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on the United States.

Because the terrorist threat continues, the national emergency declared on September 14, 2001, and the powers and authorities adopted to deal with that emergency must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2012. Therefore, I am continuing in effect for an additional year the national emergency that was declared on September 14, 2001, with respect to the terrorist threat.

This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.
