Blackburn Calls for HHS Investigation into StemExpress & Abortion Clinics Cites evidence showing violations of HIPAA Privacy Rule and IRB Regulations

Washington, DC – Select Investigative Panel Chairman Marsha Blackburn is calling on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to investigate potential violations of federal law by StemExpress and a number of abortion clinics.

In a letter to the Office of Centralized Case Management Operations at HHS, Chairman Blackburn asks Director Jocelyn Samuels to examine evidence uncovered by the Select Panel’s investigation that shows StemExpress and the abortion clinics violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The HIPAA privacy rule is a patients’ rights law, designed to empower the patient to determine when and where their private medical information will be disclosed.

The Select Panel’s investigation also shows that StemExpress violated federal regulations governing Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) by using the appearance of compliance with the regulations, while fraudulently using invalid consent forms, and misleading scientific researchers to believe it had a valid IRB approval. Misleading scientific researchers violates one of the core values of the IRB system, enacted by Congress to engender integrity in scientific medical research. As a result, Blackburn is asking HHS Office for Human Research Protections Director Jerry Menikoff to conduct a thorough investigation into whether StemExpress violated the applicable regulations; and, if any violation is found, to take all appropriate actions.

“The key to understanding the HIPAA and consent violations that we’ve referred to HHS is that there’s a business contract between StemExpress and the abortion clinics under which both sides make a profit from the baby body parts inside the young woman’s womb,” Chairman Blackburn said. “The contract changes the way both entities view the young woman: her baby is now a profit-center. This betrayal of a young woman’s trust should disgust us all. It takes financial advantage, obtains consent through coercion, and deceives the woman, all in violation of federal privacy laws.”

Fetal tissue docs reveal history’s lessons weren’t learned regarding medical experiments on humans

E-mail evidence on the ghoulish Planned Parenthood baby parts investigations published by a national newspaper reminds us that there are profound lessons not learned in history. When America was confronted with the shocking Nazi medical experiments on the Jews, they were horrified. The media was especially engaged, attending the trials and publishing stories on a regular basis.

Nazi Medical Group on Trial

According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:

Between 1939 and 1945, at least seventy medical research projects involving cruel and often lethal experimentation on human subjects were conducted in Nazi concentration camps. These projects were carried out by established institutions within the Third Reich and fell into three areas: research aimed at improving the survival and rescue of German troops; testing of medical procedures and pharmaceuticals; and experiments that sought to confirm Nazi racial ideology. More than seven thousand victims of such medical experiments have been documented. Victims include Jews, Poles, Roma (Gypsies), political prisoners, Soviet prisoners of war, homosexuals, and Catholic priests.

Today, medical experiments using human babies are being carried out by established institutions like Planned Parenthood, Stem Express, and many Universities among others. And, just as in the days of the Jewish Holocaust, much of society is silent! The media is by and large ignoring the ongoing investigation into the marketing of aborted baby body parts by Planned Parenthood. So, kudos to the New York Times who, in what appeared to be simple journalistic obligation and not outrage, chose to publish documents from the investigation. They included letters from members of Congress, letters from medical practitioners and email exchanges on tissue requests. The documents hidden inside the PDF upload would appear to be simple pieces of paper until you realize that what is being described on those pages is the dismembering and parceling of human babies.

One heavily redacted email from University of California, San Diego regarding human fetal tissue requests read in part:

Next time you go to PP [short for Planned Parenthood], can you try to get pancreas as well as liver?

Planned Parenthood Pancreas baby parts abortion

The response:

On Friday I’m going to PP and I will collect liver tissue…

Another reply:

Great to hear that, I need a few more fetal pancreas samples…

In another document marked Exhibit 1, also heavily redacted so you cannot read who it is from, reads in part:

We are now ready to include the skull if you could please include that in our order for tomorrow…

Ironically, that correspondence was dated January 21, 2015 one day prior to the date that memorializes that SCOTUS decision which legalized abortion.

planned-parenthood-video-crush-b

The investigation by a select Congressional panel follows an undercover investigation by the Center for Medical Progress. The pro-life organization secretly recorded high ranking Planned Parenthood medical officials describing how they would obtain the parts of human babies and then sell them for research. In one exchange Planned Parenthood Federation Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, is heard describing how she will crush the parts above and below whatever the researchers request:

The kind of rate-limiting step of the procedure is calvarium. Calvarium—the head—is basically the biggest part. …

We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact. And with the calvarium, in general, some people will actually try to change the presentation so that it’s not vertex. …

The document marked Exhibit B3 is an almost haunting reenactment of that description, reading:

The Calvarium [ fetal head] is mostly in tact with a tear up the back suture line, but all pieces look to be there.

The limbs, one upper and one lower are totally in tact, with upper broken at the humerus, and on lower broken right above the knee…

Calvarium PLanned Parenthood baby parts

The horrifying nature of these documents represent a setback for humanity. It wasn’t that long ago when the revelations of medical experiments on humans by the Nazi’s garnered outrage from society. Following the discovery of Nazi experimental laboratories by allied forces, Nazi war crimes tribunals were held leading to the hanging of several Nazi offenders.

A review of those events documented by PBS, which has yet to condemn Planned Parenthood, reads:

Researchers at Buchenwald concentration camp developed a method of individual execution by injecting Russian prisoners with phenol and cyanide. Experimenters also tested various poisons on the human body by secreting noxious chemicals in prisoners’ food or shooting inmates with poison bullets. Victims who did not die during these experiments were killed to allow the experimenters to perform autopsies.

To learn if a limb or joint from one person could be successfully attached to another who had lost that limb or joint, experimenters at Ravensbruck amputated legs and shoulders from inmates in useless attempts to transplant them onto other victims. They also removed sections of bones, muscles, and nerves from prisoners to study regeneration of these body parts. Victims suffered excruciating pain, mutilation, and permanent disability as a result.

A series of Nazi letters transcribed by the Jewish Virtual Library are as follows:

Nazi Letters medical experiments

Nazi Letters medical experiments2

In his 1999 Chicago Tribune review of the documentary “Healing by Killing” John Petrakis, he warns us how easy it is for doctors to use experimentation to bend the Hippocratic Oath, writing:

this sobering documentary, which is based on the book “The Nazi Doctors” by American psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton (who also provides some vital onscreen narration), should serve as a terrible reminder to doctors around the world just how easy it is to bend the Hippocratic oath.

James Bowman, Resident Scholar at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, summarized the film this way:

It is perhaps not too much to say that “It was the doctors who paved the way for the holocaust. . .It was medical ideology which led to Hitler and the Nazis,” since there is no reason to suppose that medical ideology is any more benign than the other ideologies which have killed so many in our century. But there is a particularly worrying aspect to any ideology that finds it so easy to stake a claim to “scientific” respectability. It is well to remember that, as Lifton recalls, “We [doctors] are descended from Shamans” and other primitive practitioners of sorcery and magic, so that people are in awe of our “magical powers to kill or heal.” That is why, he says, the Hippocratic oath is full of warnings against doing harm— “as if they knew doctors could be dangerous.”

These lessons not learned from history are a blight on our society. This time, instead of condemning the atrocities against humans, they are being deliberately swept under the rug and labeled innocent “medical research.” The reality is, nothing could be further from the truth!

NEW CMP Vid: Planned Parenthood’s Fraudulent “Consent” Form to get Aborted Baby Parts

Meanwhile David Daleiden, lead investigator for the Center for Medical Progress has released this statement:

Tuesday, the California Attorney General’s office of Kamala Harris, who was elected with tens of thousands of dollars from taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood, seized all video footage showing Planned Parenthood’s criminal trade in aborted baby parts, in addition to my personal information. Ironically, while seizing my First Amendment work product, they ignored documents showing the illicit scheme between StemExpress and Planned Parenthood. This is no surprise–Planned Parenthood’s bought-and-paid-for AG has steadfastly refused to enforce the law against the baby body parts traffickers in our state, or even investigate them–while at the same time doing their bidding to harass and intimidate citizen journalists. We will pursue all remedies to vindicate our First Amendment rights.

Planned Parenthood: we usually compress the [baby’s] head

In yet another shocking video release by pro-life investigative journalists, a Planned Parenthood abortion doctor is again speaking about the selling of aborted baby body parts. The latest release by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), highlights a conversation they held with Planned Parenthood of Orange & San Bernardino Counties, Medical Director Dr. Jennefer Russo, who performs abortions up to 24 weeks, earning nearly $300,000 annually according to a 2013 990.

PP Orange COunty abortion Jennifer Russo

The pro-life undercover journalists posing as a for-profit fetal tissue company confirmed that Planned Parenthood was working with the for-profit biotech company, Da Vinci Biosciences, to harvest the organs of aborted fetuses to sell nationally and internationally. They also discovered that the relationship between Planned Parenthood and Da Vinci Biosciences, LLC, and its sister company, DV Biologics, LLC dated back years uncovering a document which showed how they contributed to the abortion business as far back as 2008.

Invoices obtained by CMP reveal that critical organs harvested from babies aborted by Planned Parenthood bring the Biotech company hundreds of dollars per “specimen.”

DaVinci Planned Parenthood sells baby parts

The conversation transcript below between CMP, posing as a buyer of fetal tissue, and Dr. Jennifer Russo of Planned Parenthood, reveals DaVinci was their procurement company:

BUYER: Robert Sarkis with BioMax we do fetal tissue procurement.
PP: Oh, okay.
BUYER:So the problem we’ve been having is that pretty much all the California affiliates are already partnered up with a tissue procurement service.
PP: okay
BUYER:So Deborah has said you guys are working with a private biotech in Irving or something- I don’t know.
PP: Yeah – its DaVinci.

As the discussion progresses more information is revealed including how DaVinci takes “the whole specimen” i.e. aborted preborn baby, because, as the Planned Parenthood abortionist details to CMP, they are not using digoxin, the chemical used as feticide in later 2nd-trimester abortions to kill the fetus and prevent a live birth. Russo suggests that the reason they do not use the chemical is “because of a nationwide shortage of dig[oxin, feticide].”

Jennifer Russo Planned Parenthood

BUYER: do they [DaVinci] take the whole specimen though?
PP:Yeah. They take the whole specimen and they, it’s only certain gestations – like – no dig[oxin, feticide], only certain gestational ages because of the dig I think.
BUYER: Yeah.
PP: And then normally their staff will come get it…

The two also discuss the process of converting the “fetus” to breech and the use of guided ultrasound in the removal of the baby. This method was discussed in detail in the first CMP undercover video, with Planned Parenthood’s Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola. In that conversation the Planned Parenthood medical director described a procedure which CMP suggested sounded eerily similar to an illegal partial birth abortion.

When asked about using this same procedure to harvest more intact body parts, Orange County’s Russo confesses, “Yeah, we like to do that too.”

Planned Parenthood later asks the CMP “buyer” what gestational ages he is looking for and he tells them “anything 16 weeks and above.”

PP: “You’re looking ideally for an intact specimen?”
Buyer: “As intact as possible…”

PBA-Partial-Birth-Abortion-.image_

Russo indicates to CMP how they prefer to compress the baby’s head during the abortion. Once again, you can listen as the Planned Parenthood abortionist casually discusses how they kill the preborn child and obtain their “specimens”:

BUYER: So, about your larger case, you said sometimes, you’re converting to breech beforehand and then, are those coming out fairly intact, or what is that?
PP: We usually do like a compress the calvarium [head] and then –
BUYER: But it is breech first? So you’re getting like the whole thoracic [chest] cavity?
PP: That’s pretty rare.
BUYER: Oh its rare.
PP: We don’t usually have that much dilation to be able to do that. But, when we do we do.
BUYER: When you can you do.
PP: Yeah.
BUYER: And when that happens do you get a pretty intact specimen or what would you say?
PP: Yeah. But the calvarium [head] is not intact.
BUYER: That’s the tricky part the calvarium [head]. That’s what Deborah had told us that sometimes that’s something that can contribute a lot to getting more intact specimens is if you’re converting to breech beforehand and then you have dilation as the case goes on, and so then even in that case you can sometimes get an intact cal[varium] and everything.
PP: I think most of us have trained to not have fully intact specimens.
BUYER: Oh you’re purposely trying like not to. Yeah.
PP: Even though we use dig et cetera, but that’s how we were trained. So, it happens sometimes but its pretty rare.
BUYER: Yeah that’s where it gets tricky.
PP: Right. But we try.

In their release, CMP suggests that when the abortionist uses ultra sound guidance and resulting in an intact fetus to satisfy the requirements of their procurement company, it could be possible that in some cases the child could be born alive:

“Without a feticidal procedure like digoxin, it is possible for a fetus extracted intact during an abortion to be born alive.” they state.

Methods Planned Parenthood uses to profit from selling aborted baby parts, CMP

Posted in Aborted Baby Body Parts, Planned Parenthood sells aborted baby parts, stem Express with tags , , , , , , , , , , on March 6, 2016 by saynsumthn

A pro-life group which successfully infiltrated abortion organizations has published detailed methods they say were used by Planned Parenthood to violate a federal law prohibiting the selling of aborted baby body parts. The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), which released a series of shocking video evidence this summer, claims that the largest provider of abortions profits off the babies they abort by selling their parts for research. In an analysis just published online, CMP breaks down two primary models used by Planned Parenthood in their grisly baby parts operations.

1). The use of a Fetal Tissue Procurement Organization (TPO), like StemExpress, to manage fetal organ harvesting at their surgical abortion clinics.

2). Direct supply to local biotech companies or university laboratories.

USING A Tissue Procurement Organization (TPO):

According to the CMP, in the first model a procurement tech, like Stem Express employee Holly O’Donnell, who was interviewed by CMP, does the majority of work to secure the “specimen.” They arrive at the clinic, consent the patient, and retrieve the desired “parts” from the aborted child. In videos released by CMP, O’Donnell testified that she was told to cut through the face of a live child after the baby was aborted in order to obtain brain tissue. CMP points out that when a TPO is used there is no additional cost to the abortion clinic for retrieval of the part, and therefore any “fee” that is paid is all profit:

The TPO model virtually guarantees that the Planned Parenthood clinic will profit from supplying fetal tissue, because the TPO handles all of the costs of procurement while still paying the abortion clinic a fee per usable body part harvested.

The CMP report lists the following Planned Parenthood affiliates as having worked with a TPO:

    • Planned Parenthood Los Angeles partnered with Novogenix Laboratories, LLC;
    • Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest in San Diego worked with Advanced Bioscience Resources, Inc.;
    • Planned Parenthood Mar Monte worked with StemExpress
    • Planned Parenthood Northern California worked with StemExpress

In their analysis, CMP points out that the potential for thousands of dollars a year in extra profit is likely. In fact, StemExpress procurement logs obtained by CMP show potential for “a quarter million in extra profit margin that Planned Parenthood could earn,” according to the investigative journalists. CMP has based this estimate on information from fetal parts harvesting involving two Planned Parenthood locations:

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte in Fresno – 8 fetal parts harvested on December 12, 2012.
Planned Parenthood in San Jose shows – 9 fetal parts harvested on January 10, 2013.

The math is basic and as CMP states in their report, “Assuming 3 abortion days per week at each abortion clinic, a baby parts yield of 8 per day would mean:”

8 fetal parts/clinic x 4 clinics x $55/part x 3 days/week x 50 weeks/year = $264,000/year

Such an arrangement easily nets over a quarter million in extra profit margin for just this one Planned Parenthood affiliate each year.

DIRECT SUPPLY

The second model, which CMP calls “direct supply” basically cuts out the TPO middleman but enables Planned Parenthood to then charge more for each “specimen” CMP says.

The second model for baby parts harvesting at Planned Parenthood clinics is one of direct supply to local biotech companies or university laboratories. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, TX has been using this model for decades. While it is possible in this model that the Planned Parenthood clinics may take on more of the work of harvesting baby parts, and thus may incur some actual costs, by cutting out the TPO middle-man the clinics can also charge much higher fees per fetal specimen, far in excess of any actual cost. In this context, Planned Parenthood has more line items to mask illicit baby parts profits, but its accounting gimmicks still cannot withstand close scrutiny.

In the “direct supply model”, CMP discovered that Planned Parenthood uses a two-tired system for billing for their “services” of “specimen retrieval.”

1). First for its staff to consent all the eligible abortion patients.

2). Second, higher fee for the fetal tissue specimens that were usable.

According to a conversation CMP had with Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services for PPFA, the overall patient consent process typically only takes 10 minutes per patient. Yet, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) invoices to University of Texas Medical Branch for a 2010-2011 fetal tissue study show the clinic charged $25 per “Consent obtained” from abortion patients, and an additional $150 “Consent fee” for a subset of abortion patients. In addition, news reports indicate that at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, fetal tissue specimens were billed at $160/consent.

Using the extra $150.00 “consent fee,” CMP projected a potential $300,000/year extra profit possible for PPGC.

Planned Parenthood’s capping consent time with patients at 10 minutes, the use of outside couriers or research staff at buyer expense, and the high per-specimen fees paid to Planned Parenthood—ensure that fetal tissue harvesting on a direct-supply model remains highly profitable for Planned Parenthood.

SHIPPING THE SPECIMEN:

Another way CMP found that Planned Parenthood avoids “costs” in “donating” their fetal “specimens” for research is when they are shipped. According to CMP, when shipping costs for fetal specimens are handled by the procurement company or research lad (via pick-up or use of a courier) there is no cost to Planned Parenthood, “the only extra work for Planned Parenthood is consenting the abortion patients to “donate” fetal tissue,” CMP states.

Last month, a U.S. House investigative panel issued subpoenas to StemExpress and others in an effort to obtain documents regarding the possible sale of aborted baby body parts. The Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives held their first hearing on “Ethics” Wednesday following the CMP investigation. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who chairs the committee told the panel that “last summer’s [CMP] videos revealed that something very troubling is going on related to fetal tissue and research..and something that deserves investigating.”

As for ongoing questions into wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood, CMP said that while Planned Parenthood continues to receive over half-a-billion dollars in taxpayer money each year they maintain a, “complete lack of transparency around its clinics’ apparent profiteering from aborted baby parts,” and called for them to answer the hard questions:

“Planned Parenthood should now be on notice to stop covering up for its affiliates’ criminal baby parts sales and start answering the hard questions, if it can afford to tell the truth.”

Daleiden: sale of fetal tissue business model for most Planned Parenthood affiliates

Posted in Aborted Baby Body Parts, Center for Medical Progress, Life Dynamics, Planned Parenthood sells aborted baby parts with tags , , , , , , , , on February 28, 2016 by saynsumthn

The mastermind behind undercover videos which has resulted in Planned Parenthood being defunded in several states, claims that the sale of fetal tissue was the business model for most Planned Parenthood affiliates and shares behind the scenes information about the investigation.

David Daleiden Planned Parenthood Center for Medical Progress

The allegations came in a recent interview the Washington Examiner conducted with Center for Medical Progress (CMP) founder, David Daleiden. CMP’s series of undercover footage documented Planned Parenthood officials negotiating for the body parts of babies they aborted. Daleiden, who described his expertise as “hands-on immersion” in “regenerative medicine and stem cell science,” told the news outlet:

“It’s definitely a little bit of a difficult toss-up between profiteering off of fetal tissue versus doing illegal abortion methods. I think it is easier to prove, and the evidence is best, for Planned Parenthood’s illegal profiteering. In order to prove partial-birth abortion, you kind of need to have the body or someone in the procedure room. But in terms of the for-profit sale of fetal tissue, it’s very clearly the business model Planned Parenthood was using at most of their affiliates.

“In that model, where you have an outside procurement company sending harvesting technicians into the clinics to do all the work of fetal tissue collection, for Planned Parenthood it’s free. There’s no cost to Planned Parenthood to do that, and yet they’re still getting paid per fetal organ by these companies. There’s no way that model is legally defensible.”

Daleiden is referring to Planned Parenthood’s procurement company Stem Express whose former employee went on record with CMP to tell how she was instructed to cut an aborted baby’s face in half to get brain tissue. As Live Action News previously reported, Holly O’Donnell, shared grisly details about cutting the chin of the baby upward on the child’s face to obtain an intact brain. O’Donnell, who quit shortly after this experience, testified in the CMP video that when her supervisor tapped the baby’s heart, it started beating again.

Daleiden told the Examiner that at the time CMP put out the first video, it had been 15 years since the last time the trafficking of aborted fetal tissue had been in the news. He was referring to a shocking investigation conducted by Life Dynamics in 1997. In his analysis of that investigation, Life Dynamics president, Mark Crutcher noted that the process of selling aborted babies is not illegal.

“On the surface, this is not illegal. In fact, this process is used in all sorts of medical clinics across the country for medical research. The loophole is that site fees and retrieval reimbursement amounts are unregulated. The law requires that such payments be reasonable and reflect the actual cost of securing the parts; but there are no state or federal laws which establish guidelines or set limits regarding these payments, and no one is appointed to oversee the system.”

Aborted body parts price list obtained by Life Dynamics, Inc.

Aborted body parts price list obtained by Life Dynamics, Inc.

In 1999, after Crutcher’s investigation, the United States General Accounting Office (GAO) issued a report on the sale of aborted baby body parts and estimated that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had awarded approximately $17.0 million for 103 research grants using human fetal tissue that year. The GAO report stated that principal investigators who responded to the GAO survey acquired 12,116 human fetal tissue samples in fiscal years 1997 through 1999 for use in NIH- sponsored research.

Thank you Mary Gatter

Unlike what we see in the CMP videos where high ranking officials haggled over the costs of baby parts, with one Planned Parenthood medical director joking that she wants “a Lamborghini” before negotiating for $150.00 a “specimen,” the GAO had found that the costs of acquiring human fetal tissue were “generally low.”

The GAO noted in their report that more than four-fifths of the researchers who received tissue from health clinics i.e. abortion clinics paid no fee. “The fees per sample of human fetal tissue from health clinics ranged from $2 to $75, with an average of $22,” they wrote.

“In fiscal year 1999, 49 percent of the principal investigators in our survey received human fetal tissue without paying an acquisition fee. Among those who did pay an acquisition fee, the average fee per sample was $80 in fiscal year 1999. The median number of tissue samples received by principal investigators in fiscal year 1999 was 26.”

Matry Gatter Planned Parenthood

Daleiden, who described his role in the undercover sting as “the nerdy science geek persona to portray,” spoke about his interaction with abortionist Mary Gatter as one which gave him some concern as an undercover operative:

“For a long period of that lunch she was very tense and was quite aggressive in her questioning of myself. After that meeting I was concerned for a couple of days as to what Dr. Gatter’s suspicion level might have been, but then we saw her again at the Planned Parenthood medical directors meeting and she was perfectly friendly and congenial, so I came to learn that was her personality. She has that ornery personality when she first meets you and then warms up to you later.”

planned-parenthood-video-crush-b

He then opened up a little about his friendship with Planned Parenthood Federation Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola. She was featured in CMP’s first video where she shockingly explains how she would, “crush below” and “crush above” to “see if I can get it all intact.”

“Deb [Nucatola] was our best friend the whole time. I still consider her a friend. I don’t know how she feels about me,” the CMP founder stated.

Daleiden was recently indicted by a Houston grand jury for, of all things, allegedly offering to purchase fetal organs. But he defends his actions by pointing out that undercover stings are commonly used by investigative journalists.

“For the public at large, undercover work, I think most people realize, is a key part of both journalism and law enforcement and most people really don’t find that controversial.”

When the Examiner asked Daleiden about the fact that no one has proven Planned Parenthood broke the law, he responded by explaining that, “even the contractors themselves, Stem Express and other companies, make it clear the payments are on a per specimen basis and Planned Parenthood only gets the payments if the specimen is a high enough quality so it meets the specifications.” He later points out that Planned Parenthood has never accused him of saying anything that was not true:

“It’s interesting that the lawsuit Planned Parenthood filed kind of threw everything but the kitchen sink at me, but the one thing they did not sue for is defamation. They are upset by the way we went about doing it, but they are not claiming in a legal sense that we said anything that was untrue.”

The CMP founder said that his work has made him a target and admitted receiving death threats and other threats of bodily harm. But, He reiterated that his focus and that of CMP remains “on investigative journalism with a focus on bioethical issues that impact human dignity in a significant way.” Of the upcoming Congressional hearings into the use of baby parts, Daleiden said that he was pleased, “I was hoping for maybe just one congressional investigation after we released the videos … it turns out there were five,” he said.

Earlier this month, the chair of a U.S. House investigative panel announced that they issued subpoenas to Stem Express and two other agencies in order to obtain documents regarding the possible sale of aborted baby body parts. According to Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) who chairs the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives the first hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

Although Daleiden hinted that CMP may have other investigations in the works, he said that right now he remains focused on exposing Planned Parenthood grisly baby parts operation and noted that, “there’s still plenty of unreleased footage” to be released.

Citizens protest Planned Parenthood fetal procurement company Stem Express

California citizens horrified by Planned Parenthood selling aborted baby parts are regularly protesting their procurement company, StemExpress. Over the summer, the Center for Medical Progress began releasing undercover video evidence showing Planned Parenthood staffers haggling over organs procured from babies the tax funded organization aborted. Then CMP shocked Americans further when they released an interview they did with a former StemExpress procurement technician detailing how she was ordered to cut through the face of a live baby in order to obtain the required brain tissue.

STem Express sign

As America reeled from what they were seeing in the CMP vids, so did the citizens of Placerville where StemExpress is located. In response, several groups of citizens took it up themselves to protest outside Stem Express and expose their baby harvesting connection to the abortion giant Planned Parenthood. One of those protesters described Placerville as a quiet small town in need of jobs. Marcia Brim noted that when Stem Express came into their city the citizens had no idea what the fetal research company was all about.

Marcia Brim

“Nobody was more astounded by what was happening in our back yard than the people of Placerville. Our county doesn’t even have an abortion clinic,” Marcia said.

According to Marcia, before she saw the CMP videos she had never taken part in a protest. Now, she said she has been protesting outside Stem Express two to three days a week for several months. “A lot of us have never protested anything like this before. That is my story. I prayed for the others but never did it myself,” Marcia said. “What David and CMP did has made a huge difference in our lives and we are very grateful for what he has brought to light,” she added.

Marcia said that protesters have received a very positive response. “On the sidewalk we have people who walk or drive by and it is overwhelmingly apparent that the citizens of Placerville support their protests,” she stated.

Stem Express prolife protest

Robbie Jeremica agrees stating that he has spent every Wednesday in front of Stem Express for the past 12 weeks where he observed that most of the responses from those who drive or walk by have been positive. He and his Chrissy call their ability to expose what is going on a, “blessing” because, as he explained they are, “a voice for the unborn.” Robbie said he prays for those who disagree with him because they, “cannot see truth because they are blinded by the darkness without Christ in their hearts.”

Laura Ellis joined the protests along with her children. She was so upset about what Stem Express did that she penned a letter to the editor which read in part:

“We are some of the women and children standing outside of Stem Express…We’re writing this letter to share the heart behind the signs you see many of us holding…We find the profit from and research of aborted baby’s body parts to be a devastating aspect of the industry…It is our hope and prayer that as people are faced with the reality of the horrors of abortion, it will cause them to see how terrible all sin is and how desperately they need a Savior.”

Pastor Nick Triveri from Calvary Chapel Placerville, who also attends the demonstrations, said he has observed a loving response by the Christians who are taking a stand, “I am blessed by the Jesus like attitude all have displayed, and done so with love and boldness so as to stand for what is right, and for the innocent lives that are not only sacrificed on the altar of choice, but are being marketed for profit,” he said. “It is tragic that those standing for what is right, good, wholesome, and respectful of God given life are often painted as radicals, nuisances, or obstructionist. I thank God for all who are willing to stand and be a witness of the Lord against such heinous acts that have become so commonly accepted and condoned. If the eyes of just one person are opened, or just one child is saved by their witness and testimony it will all be worth it.”

Marcia detailed the beginning of the Stem Express protests when a small group of concerned citizens organized on Facebook with the intent of educating their community about Stem Express. Their first post from July read:

“the notion that such a practice would be going on within a company that have locations here in our town, is reason enough to speak up about our thoughts on the matter. For the most part Placerville and the El Dorado Foothills communities are tight-nit and conservative in their views. This is not the Bay Area.”

That Facebook group was started by Lisa Hart and another Placerville citizen after they became aware of StemExpress’ involvement with Planned Parenthood. She contacted Misty Tienken to help organize the protests. Mary said that she wanted to focus on Stem Express’ practice of harvesting baby parts as well as potential illegal activity. Lisa said that within days of creating the People Protesting StemExpress Facebook page they had hundreds of followers, noting “I knew I had to take immediate action.”

By August 3, 2015 that group held their first protest receiving coverage from local media. On the 4th the group posted that they had received several thank you messages from people for “bringing awareness.” Then, by August 5th they discovered another group had planned to protest the abortion procurement company as well.

“We’re trying to say stop this practice or get out of Placerville,” Lisa told News10. “We don’t condone this in our town. We don’t want this in our town.

By the 7th of August there were protests being organized in front of Stem Express on Mondays and then on Wednesdays. And by August 22nd those opposed to Stem Express were expressing their objections every Saturday. In no time, citizen groups unconnected to the Facebook People Protesting Stem Express group were so horrified that they also came out.

Hart said that shortly after the media covered their protests they received news that StemExpress had “cut ties” with Planned Parenthood. The Placerville resident said that in addition to the public outreaches, the group has requested that the Board of Supervisors audits Stem Express for alleged violations. In addition, they have contacted the local El Dorado County Sheriff’s department and demanded an investigation of the fetal tissue procurement company.

When the Center for Medical Progress videos flooded the media, Beth Mora said that she was shocked, “StemExpress was clearly identified as a company that bought and sold parts of babies. As horrible as that notion is, I stopped in my tracks for another reason. I recognized the buildings in the film. The scenery behind the reporter was my peaceful little rural town, Placerville, California,” she told Saynsumthn.

“Stem Express is part of a row of quaint buildings between our town’s beloved Buttercup Pantry and the Council of Arts building. The films made the pit in my stomach churn,” she added.

It was shortly after that when she saw an e-mail from Marcia Brim encouraging her to take a stand and she has been in front of Stem Express most Fridays thereafter, “Our presence says to our community-What is happening here is a crime of the worst proportion…Our sleepy rural town has awakened to what is happening just off of Main Street…The abortion industry forges black chain links with the hot red fires of blind passion. Sparks fly and black powder soot scatters with each smite of the pro-abortion campaign hammer. If standing on a sidewalk can weaken one link, then stand I will…I’m honored to chisel away at one link, a link that happens to live in my neighborhood,” she stated.

Marcia has been documenting her encounters outside Stem Express and is planning to publish them in a blog. She said that when she heard about the pickets in front of Stem Express she immediately contacted over 300 people she knew from a group she was involved with. She said people were grateful to have a way to speak up and the response has been tremendous. According to Marcia at three pastors have joined the protests already along with a variety of citizens from varying denominations and a number of citizens with no religious affiliation at all.
