Man arrested for allegedly assaulting pregnant woman

PARKESBURG — A man was arrested after police say he assaulted a pregnant woman over the weekend.
Steven Lee Dry, 32, of Parkesburg, is facing charges including first-degree felony aggravated assault of an unborn child, first-degree felony aggravated assault and simple assault.
Police responded at 11:12 p.m. Oct. 23 to a home on Strasburg Road for a report of a domestic disturbance.
The woman told police that Dry is her ex-boyfriend. She informed him that she was pregnant and was not going to have an abortion, according to court documents.
After she told Dry the news, she said he grabbed her neck “and repeatedly struck her in the lower abdominal area,” according to court documents.
He told her she was “getting rid of that baby” and “you must have an abortion so I never have to see you again,” according to court documents.
Parkesburg Det. Ryan Murtagh said he couldn’t confirm if Dry is the father of the unborn child.
“I can make the assumption but I can’t confirm,” Murtagh said.
The woman was taken to the hospital, but Murtagh declined to comment on her or the unborn child’s condition.
According to court documents, Dry made contact with the victim again on Monday. He showed up outside of her home and told her “Good, I hope you’re horrified, and I won’t stop until you lose that baby.”
Dry was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Nancy Gill. He was remanded to Chester County Prison in lieu of $75,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 4.
