The media’s glaring failure to report pro-abortion violence

violence, abuse

Violence against pro-life groups and individuals has been underreported by mainstream media outlets even though it occurs on a fairly regular basis and has for decades. While pro-life activists and organizations have received their share of threats (phone calls, mail, personal threats, online, etc.), more serious attacks of vandalism and even violent assault take place against pro-lifers with little mention in the press.

The false painting of pro-life groups as hateful and violent even led to a deranged gunman seeking to shoot staff at the pro-life Family Research Council. In 2009, Harlan Drake shot and murdered pro-life activist James Pouillon, while Pouillon displayed images of babies outside a Michigan school. Recently a man was indicted on federal charges after threatening to kill or rape members of Operation Rescue. Other threats to pro-lifers involving guns — including one by an abortionist — have thus far ended peacefully.

Live Action News previously documented an act of arson committed against Janet Folger Porter, who wrote about the incident in her book, True to Life, where she published this image of her car which was burned:

The abortion lobby, with the help of complicit pro-abortion media has portrayed pro-lifers as “violent” with regularity. The effort is led by the National Abortion Federation (NAF), which collects alleged “violence and disruption” claims from abortion providers and publishes them annually. While there are serious incidents listed, the report lacks evidence that every alleged act is being committed by pro-life advocates and not a disgruntled employee, angry family member, or random criminal. In addition, NAF pads the numbers by including incidents of non-violent civil disobedience and protest.

Unfortunately, while pro-life groups focus on rescuing babies and helping their mothers, to my knowledge, there is not currently a national system to report pro-abortion violence. However violence has been documented by Live Action News and other groups.

Brian Clowes at Human Life International collected data on pro-choice violence for many years. According to a report from Life News, Clowes published 1,200 pages of descriptions and documentation. The research, no longer published online, tracked violence committed by abortion providers (some in prison for murder), by pro-choice men who assaulted or murdered girlfriends for refusing to submit to abortion, and by pro-choice supporters who attacked pro-life sidewalk counselors.

“If people truly understood how backwards the media narrative is regarding the supposed intolerance and violence of pro-lifers, compared to that of ‘pro-choicers,’ we would be having a very different conversation about abortion in our nation today,” Clowes once told the Susan B. Anthony List.

The pro-life group Life Dynamics recently issued a report that shows abortion providers have been sexually assaulting and raping their clients for years. “In my 1996 book, Lime 5, I referenced more than 30 documented criminal cases in which abortion clinic doctors had been charged with raping or sexually assaulting their patients. In just these few cases, several hundred women were known to have been victimized,” president Mark Crutcher noted. There are also many other reported cases.

Life Dynamics also tracked incidents of forced abortion, and when the pro-life group created a tool called a “force form” to help protect women and thwart coercion, they claimed abortion advocates condemned it. Life Dynamics wrote:

Of course, the abortion industry has known for years that forced abortions are a problem – there have even been discussions about it at National Abortion Federation conferences. The discussions at these meetings reveal that the same people who advocate for “choice” to the media, politicians, and the country – [have] a stance of “convenient indifference” when it comes to women being forced to get abortions. They acknowledge its existence and talk about it in disapproving tones, while making it clear that they feel no obligation to let it influence the way they deal with these women.

In the interest of full disclosure, I conducted research for Life Dynamics’ “Under the Radar” report documenting how women who refuse to submit to abortion are attacked or assaulted. As the report details, the media is quite silent about this form of abortion-related violence:

[W]hen we were able to obtain copies of police reports, indictments, court records or other similar documentation for these cases, they would almost universally show that when a perpetrator is confronted by an unwanted pregnancy, his first response is not violence but a demand that his partner have an abortion. When violence ensues, it is inevitably a reaction to her refusal to comply.

However, the media’s coverage of these incidents often contains no mention of abortion. Instead, they either portray women who are attacked for refusing to have abortions as women who are attacked for getting pregnant, or they characterize the incident as one of simple “domestic violence” in which the victim’s pregnancy is basically inconsequential.

While the media touts pro-abortion violence statistics, consistently left out is the fact that women are injured and even killed by the abortion industry — Laura Hope Smith, and like Planned Parenthood patients Cree-Erwin and Tonya Reaves. I attended the funeral of Carolina Gutierrez and previously detailed how her agonizing death following her legal abortion took weeks. The infection was so horrific, she developed gangrene, enduring amputations prior to her death.

As we move closer to fully abolishing abortion in the United States, violence against pro-lifers is expected to intensify. But, despite the dangers, every pro-life activist and organization understands that the act of abortion itself is the most heinous form of violence on innocent preborn babies.

Man uses bat to demo how to get rid of an unborn baby on video

A video uploaded on YouTube jokes about striking a pregnant woman with a baseball bat to kill her unborn child.
Hood abortionist

The video, titled, “Hood Sponsor Testimony on Abortion Ultrasound Bill,” shows a young man demonstrating how you can get rid of a baby with a baseball bat.

With what appears to be his pregnant girlfriend sitting on the couch, the man who calls himself “Hood Abortionist” picks up a bat and demonstrates, “you just swing your bat no more baby.”

Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics, Inc., a national pro-life organization located in Denton, Texas, has documented that violence inflicted on pregnant women by pro-choice men who want their pregnancy aborted is nothing new.

UnderTheRadar

Life Dynamics has collected data on a large volume of these cases and compiled the data in a report entitled, “Under-the-Radar Violence in the Conflict Over Abortion.”

The report details the death of 16 year old Karesse Ebron whose boyfriend Ryan Ross drove Ms. Ebron to a wooded area near her home and bludgeoned her to death with a baseball bat. In 2007, he confessed to the murder and was sentenced to 22-years-to-life in prison. He told investigators that he killed Ms. Ebron because she was pregnant with his baby and would not have an abortion.

It also highlights the murder of 29 year old JoAnn Crystal Harris whose boyfriend decided that her pregnancy would ruin his marriage. Scott Allen Ansman was convicted of beating Ms. Harris to death with a baseball bat in 2007. According to authorities, Ansman was married and having an affair with the victim and, when she became pregnant, he demanded that she have an abortion. Because she refused, he tried to recruit someone to beat her enough to cause a miscarriage. When that was unsuccessful, he decided to kill her himself. In 2009, Ansman was given life without the possibility of parole.

In 2005, a 17 year-old Cheri girl was murdered in Virginia after she refused her lovers demand she have an abortion. Cheri Washington was pregnant by 27-year-old, Carlos Diangilo Williams, who demanded that she have an abortion. When she refused, he tied her up with duct tape, beat her with a baseball bat and stomped on her stomach with his boot. In 2005, Williams was convicted in the case and sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Crutcher warns women, “So if you are female, before you jump into bed with someone, it would be a good idea to find out his position on abortion. After all, you don’t want to be like the women listed here and find out the hard way that the kind of man who can be pro-choice about your baby could also be pro-choice about you.

Apparently the author of this video thinks that striking a pregnant woman with a bat to get rid of her unborn child is a joke, or…maybe not!

Abortionist gives pro-life women “the finger” for disrespecting him as a “doctor”

On June 28,2013, pro-lifers in Florida reported that abortionist Randall Whitney “let us know how he felt about us today” as we encouraged him to stop the bloodshed.

Pro-lifer Michele Herzog reports that , “He was also very upset because he wasn’t called Doctor Whitney…..I told him that he was not a doctor, doctors preserve life, and not kill.”

The funny thing is that DOCTOR should be a respected term – yet Whitney shows little respect for women or his patients as evident in a previous post I made:

BACK STORY:

June 6, 2010

Randall Whitney

Long-time Volusia County, Florida abortionist Randall B. Whitney was arrested by Orlando Police inside the Orlando Women’s Center after he slapped a woman patient while preparing her for an abortion procedure.

Below is a transcript of Orlando Police arresting officer J. Hughley
(emphasis ours, and patient’s last name is removed):

I,officer Hughley was sitting inside the office when I heard a OWC [Orlando Woman’s Center] patient run out of one of the rooms screaming advising the doctor has slapped her. I followed the patient outside and she advised in a sworn written statement: she went into the exam room to get an abortion procedure and the doctor was trying to find a vein to give some valium. She Amanda ______ advised the doctor had poked her three times trying to get the needle in the vein. She told him the needle was not in the vein and it started to burn. Amanda advised she started screaming. The doctor took the needle out and told her to shut up because she was scaring other patients. Amanda advised she got up and told the doctor she wanted to leave, so she stood up and the doctor slapped her on the left side of the face. Amanda advised that’s when she left. She also advised she did not give the doctor permission to slap her and wishes to press charges. Due to the needle or medicine Amanda’s fingers began to turn blue, so OFD (Orlando Fire Department) was notified. When I (officer Hughley) went back inside the building, the doctor (Dr Whitney) was sitting in the front office and he advised he did slap Amanda because she was being very uncooperative and he was trying to calm her down. Assistant Sonia Merced was inside the room with Dr. Whitney, but refuse to say what happened, nor did she want to write a statement. Dr Whitney refused to write a statement also. Amanda’s face was red on the left side of the face. Whitney was arrested and transported to central booking for aggravated battery.

Whitney was arrested and taken to jail and later released on bond.
Florida Case#: 2010-CF-004271-A-O

Abortionist Whitney arrested on warrant; held without bond

Operation Rescue reported that Whitney has faced license suspension and probation in the past and has been accused of illegal late-term abortions beyond the limits set by law by improperly using ultrasound to determine fetal age. Whitney defiantly closed his Daytona Beach abortion clinic rather than comply with laws governing clinic safety.

Orlando Women’s Center is owned by the notorious abortionist James Pendergraft, who is also no stranger to legal problems. On July 6, 2010, Pendergraft had his medical license suspended for a fourth time for botched abortions, committing illegal late-term abortions, and dispensing drugs without a license. Pendergraft’s clinic was raided by police in 2013 after he failed to pay a women who sued him for $36 million dollars.

Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics, Inc. asks, “What happens when men use abortion as a sort of safety net? What do they do when the woman they’ve impregnated won’t jump into the net?”

Today, Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics, Inc., a national pro-life organization located in Denton, Texas, says that violence inflicted on pregnant women by pro-choice men who want their pregnancy aborted is nothing new.

One recent example which received national attention was the arrest and indictment of a Florida man who tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking abortion pills to abort her pregnancy.

Authorities say that 28-year-old John Andrew Welden did not want to be a father, so when his girlfriend, Remee Jo Lee, got pregnant, Welden faked a prescription for an abortion pill, switched a label so the medication appeared to be a common antibiotic, and gave her the drug. The drug did its job. The unborn baby died. Now Welden, is facing the possibility of life behind bars without parole, charged with murder under a rarely used federal statute known as the “Protection of Unborn Children Act.”

UnderTheRadar

Life Dynamics has collected data on a large volume of these cases and compiled the data in a report entitled, “Under-the-Radar Violence in the Conflict Over Abortion.”

Crutcher, who wrote the report, asks, “What happens when men use abortion as a sort of safety net? What do they do when the woman they’ve impregnated won’t jump into the net?”

Crutcher continues, “Our research shows that when a male displays these kinds of attitudes about his partner’s pregnancy, his first reaction will be to demand that she have an abortion. In almost every incident in which violence ensues, its motive will be that she refused to comply.”

The report points out that this kind of violence against women is not commonly reported by the media.

According to Crutcher, “When we were able to obtain copies of police reports, indictments, court records or other similar documentation for these cases, they would almost universally show that when a perpetrator is confronted by an unwanted pregnancy, his first response is not violence but a demand that his partner have an abortion.

Life Dynamics also documents that the abortion lobby is aware of how common this problem is:

Crutcher states, “Over the years, we have acquired tape recordings of National Abortion Federation (NAF) conventions in which discussions about women being forced to have abortions were held. The prevailing attitude expressed in these sessions may best be described as one of “convenient indifference.” Attendees will acknowledge the problem’s existence and talk about it in disapproving tones, while making it clear that they feel no obligation to let it influence the way they deal with these women. Their philosophical position seems to be that, even if a woman chooses to have an abortion she doesn’t want because of threats from others, it remains within the “pro-choice” purview since she was still the one who ultimately made the decision. In fact, on the NAF tapes mentioned above, some abortion clinic employees can be heard paraphrasing this very argument and using it to justify their habit of looking the other way. It is a truly bizarre rationalization analogous to saying that women who submit to sexual relations at the point of a gun are not really being raped since, technically, they are consenting.”

Crutcher points at out that although there have been Herculean efforts by the abortion lobby to call for the protection of abortion providers against violence, they fail to make the same effort to protect these women from violence, “For political and public relations reasons, those who most loudly proclaim “a woman’s right to choose,” have shown no interest in “a woman’s right not to choose.” On one hand, they may not approve of women being bludgeoned or killed for refusing to have abortions. But on the other hand, they have made it clear that they are willing to write-off these women as just collateral damage in the war to keep abortion legal.”

Crutcher warns women about this growing violence by telling them, “If he’s going to be pro-choice about your baby, he might be pro-choice about you.”

Troubled Virginia Abortionist Suspended Over Drug Charges
• Written by Operation Rescue
• Posted June 1, 2012 at 10:50 am

Reston, VA — Abortionist Joel Match’s medical license was summarily suspended last month by the Virginia Board of Medicine amid findings that he was operating a “pill mill” that dispensed dangerous narcotics to at least ten patients without prior treatment or proper medical work-ups, some of which were known drug addicts.
Calls to his Chantilly “pain treatment center” were unanswered.

“There is no doubt that Match presented a serious danger to the public. We are thankful he is out of commission for now and are praying that Virginia will eventually revoke his medical license. Match’s troubles are far from unique. Our research shows that drug abuse and the illegal distribution of drugs is fairly common among abortionists,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation.

Kermit Gosnell of Pennsylvania, who faces murder charges for killing babies born alive during late-term abortions, was discovered after police raided it his clinic thinking he operated a “pill mill.” Florida abortionist Harry Perper was arrested last year and charged with the illegal distribution of drugs. Other abortionists in Pennsylvania and Maryland have been arrested and/or disciplined within the last year on similar charges.

Match has a long history of problem behavior. He formerly worked for Nova Women’s Healthcare in Fairfax, Virginia, where he was employed by Mi Yong Kim, an abortionist who lost her own medical license in 2007 after killing a woman during an abortion. Kim is again under investigation for a botched abortion at Nova that was documented and reported by pro-life activists working with Operation Rescue in April, 2012.

Match was sued in 2009, along with Kim, after he gave patient Regina Tetteh a negligently performed abortion. He had informed her that her pregnancy was in her uterus when in reality, she suffered from an ectopic pregnancy. Match noted in Teeteh’s medical record that he had successfully completed the abortion of an 8 week pregnancy even though a 12 week old fetus remained dangerously lodged in her fallopian tube. Teetah began to experience increasingly worse pain and bleeding after the abortion. Instead of sending her to an emergency room, Kim rescheduled her for a second abortion several days later. Before she could make that appointment, Teetah collapsed in pain after her fallopian tube exploded, threatening her life. She unsuccessfully attempted to crawl to a phone to call for help. Her fiancé discovered her later on the floor of their home and called 911. Teeteh survived her ordeal but continued to experience pain and other issues for years.

Court records also show that Match also has a history of spousal abuse. In his 1992 divorce, the court found that Match has subjected his wife to physical abuse, including, “choking her, body-slamming her, kicking her, throwing her down the stairs, beating her face, pulling her hair and screaming at her.” Records also show that Match underwent psychiatric treatment and counseling “with respect to his violence and cruelty to a woman (his wife).”

“The documents on Match paint an ugly picture of hatred of women, sloppy abortions, and involvement with illegal drugs. That is a recipe for disaster for the women and their babies that this criminal preyed upon,” said Sullenger. “What is frightening is that we know there are many other abortionists like Match – and worse – still out there that just haven’t been caught yet. Women have no idea what they will get when they walk into an abortion clinic in America.”

Abortion doctor pleads guilty to manslaughter in patient death

From the Boston Herald 9/13/2010

A Massachusetts [abortion] doctor has pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in the case of a woman who died after he performed an abortion on her.

Dr. Rapin Osathanondh (O-SATH’-an-on), entered the plea when trial began Monday in Barnstable Superior Court on Cape Cod on the third anniversary of the death of Laura Hope Smith.

Attorney David Angueira, who represents Smith’s parents in a lawsuit they filed against the doctor, says he will be sentenced Tuesday.

Prosecutors allege Osathanondh did not properly monitor the 22-year-old woman from Sandwich while she was under anesthesia and failed to call 911 in a timely manner.

Osathanondh resigned his medical license after the state Board of Registration in Medicine issued a list of charges against him.

Cape Cod online reports that, the guilty plea followed an agreement between Cape and Islands First Assistant District Attorney Brian Glenny and defense attorneys Paul Cirel and Serina Barkley of Boston.

Osathanondh faced a possible 20 years in state prison. But the recommended sentence, endorsed by prosecutor and defense, calls for less time in jail.

The Anchor reported that, Mark Crutcher, head of Life Dynamics, a Texas group whose motto is “Pro-Life: without compromise, without exception, without apology,” said it is “impossible” to know how many times this sad situation plays out in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control keep statistics, with an entire division dedicated to abortion surveillance, but those numbers are woefully inaccurate.

In one year alone, his staff of three found 16 deaths as a result of abortion while the CDC found only two.

“How could we find eight times as many with our tiny little resources, and no one is required to report to us?” he asked. “We were finding exponentially more deaths than the CDC was listing. What’s going on at the CDC is a crime.”

The CDC performs “hijinks” to make sure that abortions are not counted. In one case, Life Dynamics had an autopsy that found a Florida woman’s death was abortion-related. In that case, the abortionist had let his medical license lapse. The CDC ruled that he was not a licensed physician when he performed the abortion, making the procedure illegal. And since there is no category for illegal abortion, her death was counted as “complications of maternity.”

A Statement issued from the victim’s mother Eileen Smith states,

There was a plea deal offered by the defendant that the Judge accepted after all day negotiations. Abortionist Rapin Osathanondh is being sentenced tomorrow at 2 PM. Any one can come and watch the sentencing. He received a 2 year sentence at the House of Corrections. He has to serve 3 months there in jail then 3 months in home confinement. His probation is for 3 years.

TODAY IS THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF LAURA’S DEATH. HOW APPROPRIATE IT SHOULD ALL END ON THIS DAY!

Looking back, Eileen told The Anchor that she saw clues that her daughter could have been pregnant, but at the time she was not able to connect the dots. “I noticed that she had put a little weight on, but I thought it was my home cooking. It wasn’t even on my radar screen that she could possibly be pregnant,” she said.

She thought raising her children in a Christ-centered home would mean that abortion would never be an option. She sees now that she was wrong.

“Before Laura died, I didn’t even know we were Pro-Life. I didn’t think you could do anything,” she said. “Now I realize that it was people like me that keep abortion legal.”

“The expression that evil abounds when good people do nothing pretty much says it all,” she added.

Now, Eileen travels all over the country, speaking at pregnancy care center banquets, churches, schools and women’s groups — telling everyone Laura’s story. She receives calls from pregnancy center employees who tell her that Laura’s story convinced another woman not to have an abortion. Sometimes she gets pictures of the babies.

Trentonian Reorts: Cops: Pro-abortion dad sexually assaults pregnant mom in front of kids in Cinnaminson
Published: Wednesday, September 01, 2010

CINNAMINSON — A man sexually assaulted the mother of his young child inside a bedroom where three kids were sleeping after arguing over the mother’s current pregnancy with his unborn child, which the man wanted to have aborted, township cops said.

Thomas O. Hill, 24, of Camden, was arrested yesterday and slapped with charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, terroristic threats, and endangering the welfare of a child, cops said.

According to this article in Philly.com: Cops: She won’t get abortion, so he rapes her in front of kids By JASON NARK

When the woman who gave birth to two children with Thomas O. Hill said that she had another on the way, police in Burlington County say, the ex-con insisted on an abortion.

But the woman wanted to keep the pregnancy, police said, and an argument over the issue inside her home on Union Landing Road, in Cinnaminson, turned violent Sunday.

“He got pissed off at her,” said Cinnaminson Police Det. Sgt William Covert.

Hill, 24, of Camden, is accused of sexually assaulting the woman in a bedroom where three children, including two of his own, were sleeping, Covert said.
One child allegedly was knocked off a mattress during the assault, Covert added.

“She’s claiming he raped her and he says otherwise,” Covert said.

The woman, who is four to six weeks pregnant, appeared to have injuries to substantiate those claims, Covert said.

Hill is being held in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly on $75,000 bail on charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, restraint, terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the New Jersey Department of Corrections, Hill was paroled from prison on Sept. 10, 2009, after serving less than five months on terroristic-threats charges.
