Planned Parenthood has been covering up child sexual abuse for a decade

The latest release in Live Action’s seven part docuseries, Aiding Abusers, demonstrates that, as far back as ten years ago, Planned Parenthood was covering-up child sexual abuse. This systemic child sexual abuse cover-up at Planned Parenthood, an organization receiving millions in tax dollars through federal Title X family planning programs, often results in sexual abuse victims being returned to their abusers for additional days, weeks, and even years of abuse. At a time when just about every industry has been held to task for their years of silence and complicity in covering up the sexual abuse of countless victims, it is past time for an honest look at Planned Parenthood.

Live Action founder and president Lila Rose stated in a press release:

Despite Planned Parenthood’s public rhetoric as well as laws requiring it to report suspected abuse, its failure to report has been deliberate and widespread. Time and again, rather than reporting abuse to authorities, Planned Parenthood has repeatedly looked the other way and performed abortions on victims as young as 12 years old. These girls deserved advocacy but instead Planned Parenthood staff ignored their abuse and returned them to the waiting arms of their abusers.

Because of flagrant violations like these, the proposed Title X rule tightening on reporting abuse is absolutely necessary. Planned Parenthood has proven that its priority is selling abortions, not caring for the most vulnerable of girls. Planned Parenthood’s culture of cover-up must end, the cycle of abuse of innocent children must end, and Planned Parenthood’s half a billion dollars in annual federal funding must end. Taxpayers cannot be forced to subsidize these abuses of children.

In the Statutory Rape Investigation video of the Aiding Abusers docuseries, Rose asks:

“How is it that sexual abuse of multiple victims can continue within an institution for years, sometimes decades?

“We get some answers from the case of Larry Nassar the US Gymnastics coach who was accused of molesting at least two hundred and fifty young girls, dating as far back as 1992. People heard about the abuse, they knew about the abuse, but they did nothing.”

‘Just like Larry Nassar’: Lila Rose says nothing being done about Sex Abuse cover up at Planned Parenthood

Former gymnast Rachael Denhollander, one of Nassar’s sexual abuse victims, told the court, “Larry Nassar did not arise in isolation. Rather, we saw the worst sexual assault scandal in history unfold because a predator was left in power for decades, despite warning signs, despite red flags, direct reports of assaults.”

Similar red flags, warning signs and reports exist where Planned Parenthood is concerned, and tragically, the organization’s complicity has also enabled sexual predators to remain in power and continue to use its services to cover predators’ crimes.

In 2008, Live Action investigators found out first hand how Planned Parenthood views victims of sexual abuse. Time and again, Live Action’s investigators, posing as 13- to 15-year-old girls with boyfriends as old as 31, were instead told how to protect their abusers. Just as in the Nassar case, the predator remained in control.

In this edition of the Aiding Abusers docuseries, Live Action will demonstrate how Planned Parenthood was covering-up child sexual abuse ten years ago, just as they are today.

“Our investigation found eight Planned Parenthood facilities in six different states that were willing to cover-up sexual abuse including, disregarding mandatory reporting laws of suspected statutory rape,” Lila Rose states.

The following is a compilation reel of that investigation:

At the Planned Parenthood in Bloomington, Indiana, the counselor tells Live Action’s investigator that she does not want to know how old the “boyfriend” is because “…[I]n the state of Indiana, anyone 13 years and younger… there has to be a report done to CPS….” Apparently, the 31-year-old abuser was more important to Planned Parenthood than the teen victim.

Image: Planned Parenthood Bloomington In doesn't want to know how old sexual abuser is

Planned Parenthood Bloomington, Indiana doesn’t want to know how old sexual abuser is

The Indianapolis, Indiana, Planned Parenthood was no different. In fact, not only did the Planned Parenthood counselor refuse to protect the young “victim,” but told the investigator, posing as a 13-year-old girl, that “surrounding states” do not have parental consent, hinting that the child would be easily able to access an abortion somewhere else.

In Tucson, Arizona, the Planned Parenthood counselor was also more willing to protect the abuser, an adult male manipulating a young girl into a sexual relationship. Rather than get more information and file a report, the counselor told the investigator that having sex with an adult was her “choice,” as long as she wasn’t “being forced to have sex,” despite clear laws against statutory rape.

At the Planned Parenthood at 302 North Jackson Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the counselor was told that the adult “boyfriend” knew how old the 14-year-old investigator was when she asked, “Ok, so would he be paying for [the abortion], then?” The only advice the counselor gave Live Action’s investigator was that she “had the right to an abortion.” Despite disregarding mandatory reporting laws on child sexual abuse, this Planned Parenthood facility is currently listed as receiving Title X funds.

In Phoenix, Arizona, when the Live Action investigator posed as a 15-year-old with an adult boyfriend, Planned Parenthood implied that giving the counselor the man’s age was totally up to the victim, shutting down any chance that this adult pedophile could be caught.

Then, in Memphis, Tennessee, the Planned Parenthood counselor at first stated that she would speak with her manager because the adult boyfriend “is gonna get in trouble” — after all, the Planned Parenthood counselor initially tells the investigator, posing as 14, “he’s your age – doubled.” Then, she has a change of heart and tells Live Action’s investigator, “I’m not going to tell anybody…. Please don’t say that I told you this…. Just say you have a boyfriend 17 years old….”

In Birmingham, Alabama, the Planned Parenthood counselor tells Live Action’s investigator that as long as she “consented” to having sex with her 31-year-old boyfriend at the age of 14, then “there is nothing we can truly do about that.”

Live Action’s Aiding Abusers series contains horrific accounts and testimonials from actual victims taken from criminal and civil court records, health department agencies as well as news reports. Although the information may not be new in most instances, it is eye opening in light of the current #MeToo and #TimesUp movements now rightly demanding that those who are complicit in covering up abuse be exposed. The evidence has mounted, the silence from the media, politicians and Hollywood alike has been deafening. It’s time to stop protecting abusers who use Planned Parenthood to cover their crimes and to start holding this taxpayer-funded organization accountable.

It’s past time for Congress to both investigate Planned Parenthood and to remove Title X dollars and the balance of the half billion federal dollars from Planned Parenthood, once and for all. To do nothing is to also be complicit in this abuse.

HHS rule requires Planned Parenthood / TitleX recipients report sexual abuse

Don’t be fooled: Requiring Planned Parenthood to report sexual abuse is a good thing

Planned Parenthood, woman

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has published a proposed rule change to the federal Title X family planning program in the Federal Register, which reiterates the requirement that recipients and subrecipients of those tax dollars must, by law, report sexual abuse, including child sexual abuse and sex trafficking. The move comes on the heels of an investigative report and docuseries published by Live Action, which reveals a systemic decades-long sexual abuse cover-up by Planned Parenthood, one of the largest recipients to Title X funds.

As Live Action News has previously documentedTitle X requires recipients of the government dollars to comply with all federal and state laws involving the reporting of sexual abuse. In 2015 alone, 474 of the organization’s facilities received funding from the federal program.

Live Action’s alarming investigative report opens with this statement from a sexual abuse victim taken to Planned Parenthood for an abortion to cover the predator’s crime:

She’s out there. Somewhere. A girl just like me. Somewhere there’s a young innocent girl – barely a teenager. And right now, she’s suffering from the horrors of sexual abuse at the hands of an adult as I did. Somewhere ‘that girl’ is getting raped. Like I was. Impregnated. Like I was. And she may be taken to a Planned Parenthood abortion center. Like I was. ‘That girl’ may actually be telling Planned Parenthood that she’s being abused. Probably by her boyfriend. In my case, I was abused by my own father. …For six years, Planned Parenthood did everything possible to try to defeat my [legal] claims and drown out my message that, when Planned Parenthood knows or suspects that a young girl is being sexually abused, it must meet its duties under the law and immediately report that abuse to the proper authorities. …We can all get behind cases like mine. Because they’re out there. I know they’re out there. You know they’re out there. Planned Parenthood knows they’re out there.

Live Action’s report, “Aiding Abusers, Planned Parenthood’s cover-up of child sexual abuse,” also includes a few horrific cases documenting Planned Parenthood’s complicity in covering child sexual abuse:

• Denise Fairbanks had been sexually abused by her father since she was 13. When she became pregnant at age 16, he forced her to have an abortion at Planned Parenthood. Although she told the staff that he was raping her, they refused to report the incident. Instead, they sent her home with him, where he continued to abuse her for another year-and-a-half.
• George Savanah had repeatedly raped his daughter and impregnated her when she was 14, 16, and 17 years old, each time taking her to Planned Parenthood and forcing her to get an abortion. Planned Parenthood neglected to report any of the three suspicious incidents to authorities.
• Timothy David Smith had sexually abused his stepdaughter for seven years and took her to Planned Parenthood when she became pregnant at age 13. Planned Parenthood committed an abortion without notifying her parents and without reporting the suspected abuse to authorities as required by Colorado law.
• Planned Parenthood committed an abortion on a 12-year-old girl at the request of her 23-year-old foster brother, who was also her abuser. Shawn Michael Stevens took her home afterwards and continued to rape her. Planned Parenthood not only neglected to notify authorities, but also failed to notify the victim’s foster parents about the abortion.

Though Live Action has exclusively documented many of Planned Parenthood’s failures and cover-ups, Live Action’s investigative report includes information gleaned from other groups who have participated in legal actions or contributions to the public record, including “reams of documents from lawsuits, court filings, and regulatory agency reports.” Those groups include Alliance Defending Freedom, Life Legal Defense Foundation, Life Dynamics, Americans United for Life, and others.

June 2018 TitleX Proposed Rule Comment Federal Registry

The proposed Title X rule change indicates that Planned Parenthood and other recipients of Title X funds cannot hide behind “confidentiality” to skirt state and federal laws. It states in part:

As discussed above, Title X grantees and subrecipients are required to comply with all State and local laws requiring notification or reporting of child abuse, child molestation, sexual abuse, rape, incest, and the like. Section 59.11 currently provides that personal information may not be disclosed absent consent by the individual, except to provide treatment, or as required by law, “with appropriate safeguards for confidentiality.” To ensure that Title X grantees and subrecipients comply with applicable reporting requirements, the proposed rule would clarify that concerns about confidentiality of information may not be used as a rationale for noncompliance with such reporting laws.

Under Section 59.17: Compliance With Reporting Requirements, the proposal adds:

New provision § 59.17 would address explicitly the requirement for Title X projects to comply with all State and local laws regarding the notification or reporting of crimes involving sexual exploitation, child abuse, child molestation, sexual abuse, rape, incest, intimate partner violence, and human trafficking. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018 included the following provision: “Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no provider of services under Title X of the Public Health Service Act shall be exempt from any State law requiring notification or the reporting of child abuse, child molestation, sexual abuse, rape, or incest.” This provision is consistent with language that has been included in appropriations acts for HHS since fiscal year 1999...

The rule also includes, “those State or local laws respecting intimate partner violence and human trafficking because such criminal activities would be encompassed within the categories of crime enumerated in the Appropriations Act (“child abuse, child molestation, sexual abuse, rape, or incest”)… Title X grantees and subrecipients have an affirmative obligation to comply with notification or reporting requirements; merely being aware of such requirements is insufficient to comply with the law.”

One might assume that reporting abuse, specifically child sexual abuse, is not an unreasonable requirement for agencies receiving tax dollars. But in a time of intolerance toward the enabling of sexual abuse brought on in part by the MeToo and TimesUp movements, Planned Parenthood continues to receive these taxpayer funds, despite mounting evidencethat they protect abusers by failing to report abuse, often in violation of the law.

Image: George Savannah sex predator took victim to Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood has little interest in identifying the age of partners of minor children who seek their services. And in a 2008 Live Action investigation, when directly told that an adult is having sex with an underaged minor, Planned Parenthood employees have been shown coach potential sexual abuse victims to lie about the age of their abusers:

In addition, undercover footage captured by the Center for Medical Progress reveals that other abortion providers find mandatory reporting laws unreasonable. In footage now removed from YouTube, a National Abortion Federation abortion provider bemoaned the law as forcing abortion businesses to be a “state actor.” A transcript of the comments were captured by the blog Clinic Quotes, as follows:

[…]these regulations that we all are so familiar in working with fighting with now, challenge the moral agency of physicians. Because they turn physicians into agents of the state. We’re familiar with this with very vulnerable populations, such as making physicians mandatory reporters for child abuse, but it puts them in that same role as a state actor, saying what the state wants them to say or doing what the state wants them to do. It’s a conscription of physicians to perform state actions. In my opinion, if the state wants these things, they should print state flyers and appoint state employees to do these things, rather than force the physicians to do it on the state’s behalf.

Image: CMP NAF Tape mandatory reporters are state actors

CMP NAF abortion provider calls requirement they are mandatory reporters “state actors”

Under HHS’ proposed rules, deliberate skirting of mandatory reporting laws would no longer be acceptable. The rule states:

Some practitioners have proposed that providers avoid soliciting or determining the age of the adolescent or the age of their sexual partner as a means of assuring the adolescent of confidential services and, thus, avoiding the potential responsibility of reporting. But Title X exempts neither Title X clinics nor Title X healthcare providers from their responsibility to comply with State and local reporting laws. Sexual exploitation, abuse, or assault (including statutory rape) are crimes that affect individuals, families, and communities. Title X projects should lead the Nation in protecting those who are vulnerable to sexual abuse, rape, and assault; in developing protocols to identify clients who may be at risk for sexual abuse; in counseling teens on, and in producing programs and materials that assist teens in, resisting sexual exploitation, abuse, and coercion; and in assuring appropriate support and management of teens (and women) who have been exploited, abused or coerced into unequal sexual partnerships.

According to former staffers, Planned Parenthood has looked the other way for years when abuse victims entered their doors. Live Action’s investigative report quotes some of these whistleblowers, including Monica Cline, former health educator who worked with Planned Parenthood in Texas and New Mexico:

“[Planned Parenthood workers] adopted George Bush’s ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ [policy]… If we don’t ask how old her partner is, we don’t have to tell. And so Planned Parenthood actually allows victims of human trafficking to continue to be victims of human trafficking. And they’re okay with that. I went back to my office and I told my supervisor, listen, I’m trying to teach them about key concepts on Title X; they’re admitting that they’re not going to report cases of statutory rape.”

https://youtu.be/igQlxvXdn4s

Statements like this are a reason HHS has added in the proposed rule:

Through the proposed rule, the Department would require, as a condition of receiving Title X funding, that a project provide assurance that it has a plan in place to comply with State and local laws requiring notification or reporting and maintains appropriate documentation of compliance with these reporting requirements… It would require that Title X grantees and subrecipients have in place a plan that demonstrates that the grantee and any subrecipients are aware of what specific reporting requirements apply to them in their State (or jurisdiction), and provide adequate training for all personnel with respect to these requirements and how such reports are to be made.

In addition, Title X projects would be required to conduct a preliminary screening of any teen who presents with an STD, pregnancy, or suspicion of abuse in order to rule out victimization of a minor. Such screening would be required with respect to any individual who is under the age of consent in the jurisdiction in which the individual receives Title X services. If positively diagnosed, projects are permitted to also treat STDs.

“Even in the rare situation where Planned Parenthood may attempt to argue that it has no legal obligation to report a specific instance of suspected sexual abuse, most people would agree that adults in a position of authority have a moral obligation to do so, especially when the abuse involves minors,” Live Action’s report states, noting, “Despite the evidence that this reporting problem seems to be part of Planned Parenthood’s culture and a ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy regarding underage pregnancies seems to be prevalent throughout the organization, Planned Parenthood affiliates continue to receive Title X funding and children continue to remain trapped in abusive situations.”

Because of this, the HHS proposed rule § 59.17 would “require grantees and subrecipients to maintain records that would identify, among other things, the age of any minor clients served, the age of their sexual partner(s) where required by law, and what reports or notifications were made to appropriate State agencies. The Department would use this documentation to ensure appropriate compliance with State and local reporting requirements.”

The public has until July 31, 2018 to file a comment, here or here.

Former Planned Parenthood staff: We were told not to report sexual abuse

Image: Aiding Abusers Sex Abuse Cover Up at Planned Parenthood Former Workers Testify

Live Action’s Aiding Abusers docuseries, exposing how Planned Parenthood aids sexual abusers by failing to report child sexual abuse, makes it clear that the taxpayer-funded organization views children not as potential victims but more as “animals” who are unable to control their sexual appetites. In the latest release from the the Aiding Abusers docuseries, former Planned Parenthood workers reveal how the organization treated victims of sexual abuse:

In her introductions of the Former Workers video, Live Action president and founder Lila Rose points out:

When it comes to reports of sexual assault and sexual harassment, Planned Parenthood has used the slogan that we should ‘trust women,’ so lets’s follow that advice and listen to the testimonies of these four women who are former Planned Parenthood workers and managers who all say the same thing, that Planned Parenthood routinely covers-up child sexual abuse.

Image: Aiding Abusers Planned Parenthood Former Workers Testify

Aiding Abusers Planned Parenthood Former Workers Testify

In the video, former Planned Parenthood employee Catherine Adair observed how the organization routinely allowed sexual abusers into the counseling rooms with their victims. When Adair objected, she was scolded and told that the victims were better off with abortions.

“There’d be girls coming in with their abusers…. Even if I went to the manager and I said, look, there’s something going on here, she would say, ‘She’s better off with the abortions. We can’t do anything about what’s going on at home but at least we can give her the abortion.’”

READ: Planned Parenthood awards journalists who ignore their sexual abuse scandals

Monica Cline, a former HIV health educator and Title X training manager, observed Planned Parenthood’s work first hand:

I was teaching on human trafficking and statutory rape, and was telling Planned Parenthood staff of Corpus Christi and the Gulf Coast, basically, you’ve got to report when you see a girl coming in with an older man that you can tell is not her father. You know something’s wrong, you’ve got to report that; it’s considered human trafficking. It is also considered statutory rape; you’ve got to report this. And they started laughing.

Image: Aiding Abusers Planned Parenthood laughs Former Worker Monica Cline

She went on to state, “And I said, ‘I don’t think there was anything I said that was funny. What’s going on here?’ And the response was, ‘Honey, if she’s not having sex with this man this week she’ll have another one next week.’”

Think about that response for a moment. If what Cline is saying is correct, victims of sexual abuse are seen by this abortion corporation as simply promiscuous and in need of abortions and birth control, rather than protection from sexual predators. And that is exactly what Cline went on to describe, noting that, in her opinion, Planned Parenthood sees potential victims of child sexual abuse in a “distorted” way (emphasis added):

And so their view of our children is distorted. It’s dehumanized. I don’t know why their hearts are hardened, but they are. And so when a girl or a young man goes there for an abortion, or condoms or testing, they don’t see them with compassion anymore, if they ever did. Um, they see them as just, almost like an animal who can’t control themselves; they’re always gonna have sex so we’re just going to give them enough lube and condoms and hope they come in to get tested before they get some kind of cancer. They’re not gonna stop statutory rape.

Um, one of the things that they even mentioned was, they adopted [a] don’t ask, don’t tell [policy]…. If we don’t ask how old her partner is, we don’t have to tell. And so, Planned Parenthood actually allows victims of human trafficking to continue to be victims of human trafficking. And they’re okay with that. I went back to my office and I told my supervisor, like — listen, I’m trying to teach them about key concepts on Title X; they’re admitting that they’re not gonna report cases of statutory rape.

The response from my supervisor was, “Your job is to teach them key concepts, and that’s it.” She was really upset with me that I challenged that.

Former Planned Parenthood manager Sue Thayer stated that Planned Parenthood was more concerned about potential “trouble” from the victim’s family or boyfriend than they were about the victim. Thayer told Live Action, “We were all required to be mandatory reporters, but if we saw a case… uh… questionable abuse, or even for sure — I mean, this kid is being abused – um, we really were discouraged from calling it in, just because, uh, they didn’t want to have the trouble, the angry parent, uh, the angry boyfriend, whatever it was. So, more than once I was told, ‘No, that is not reportable – you don’t need to call it in.’”

Former Planned Parenthood employee Marianne Anderson also testified to a systemic cover-up of sexual abuse at the abortion corporation. She described an Asian girl who came to Planned Parenthood with a very controlling man who even talked for the girl. The girl described living in a place with many other young women, little food, and little clothing. Perhaps you and I can read between the lines here, but for Planned Parenthood, no alarm bells were raised and all they saw were dollar signs for the abortion.

Image: Aiding Abusers Planned Parenthood former employee Marianne Anderson says PP covers child sexual abuse

Aiding Abusers: Planned Parenthood former employee Marianne Anderson says PP covers child sexual abuse

When Marianne was asked how she felt about the lack of concern Planned Parenthood had for this potential victim, she responded, “Degraded, like women don’t really matter.”

“Like men — some men can be very controlling — but I think Planned Parenthood even added to that,” the former Planned Parenthood employee said.

These former staffers are not alone. Victims themselves have pointed out Planned Parenthood’s willingness to be complicit in sexual abuse.

One victim’s story, published anonymously by Feminists for Life, claims that when she was abused at the age of 12 by both an older brother and a college-age friend of the family, Planned Parenthood’s only concern was how often she was having intercourse, not who may have impregnated her:

[M]y older brother took me to Planned Parenthood…. The whole visit was terrifying. No one explained anything. I was examined, gave urine and blood samples, and shown a chart of an egg going around a big circle marked by days of the month. I was asked questions like, “frequency of intercourse?” and “method of birth control preferred?” I did not know what intercourse meant, so I just said “a lot,” and I had no idea what methods of birth control existed. No one asked who my “partner” was; no one expressed any dismay, concern, or even interest that a 12-year-old girl needed a pregnancy test. I heard a lot about “being responsible” and “taking control of my body.

Someone gave me a handful of condoms on the way out and made a joke about it being an assortment — red, blue, and yellow. The yellow ones were called Tinglers. I stuffed them in my purse and threw them away later.

My older brother maintained a strong silence throughout the entire time — no one asked him a single question.

The victim claims that she ended up starting her period and did not keep the abortion appointment. In addition, she states that the sexual abuse ended only after one predator moved away and the older brother set his sights on other victims from the neighborhood.

Sadly, this girl’s abuse — and many other victims’ abuse — may have been prevented if Planned Parenthood had bothered to ask about potential abuse.

Live Action’s Lila Rose stated in a press release:

Live Action is releasing this report as the Time’s Up movement is exposing both sexual abusers and those who help them cover up their crimes — the people who knew about the abuse but stayed silent. While Planned Parenthood has attached itself to the Time’s Up movement, the movement should be calling out Planned Parenthood for decades of enabling sexual abusers.

Civil rights activist Dick Gregory: Abortion is Black ‘genocide’

Comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory died August 19, 2017, and although he is best known for his humor, the satirist once called out government-funded abortion and birth control as a genocide effort targeting the Black community.

Gregory was the father of eleven children but tragically, one of his children died as an infant. He often used his humor to touch on the social ills of the day, and as a result, many white people attended his comedy events. He became a strong voice in the Black community during the tumultuous times of the 1960’s and 70’s during the African American civil rights struggle.

In 1967, Gregory joined more than 1,100 Black delegates for the First National Conference on Black Power where he along with others in the group adopted a black power manifesto that called for the “refusal to accept birth control programs on the basis that they seek to exterminate Negroes,” among other demands, according to a July 24, 1967, New York Times report obtained by Live Action News.

In the Journal of Social History, researcher Simone M. Caron described the view just after that conference saying, “The following year, the Third Annual National Conference on Black Power in Philadelphia called on all blacks to ‘resist the increasing genocidal tendencies of American society.’ Resistance ranged from a small California group called Efforts to Increase Our Size (EROS) to groups in Pittsburgh and Cleveland that protested Planned Parenthood programs to the ultramilitant group in New York known as the Five Percenters. These organizations asked two main questions: ‘Is birth control just a “white man’s plot” to “contain” the black population?’ and ‘Is it just another scheme to cut back on welfare aid or still another method of “keeping the black man down”?’ An editorial in The Thrust questioned why blacks could not get a free aspirin for a headache ‘yet when you’re a Black woman old enough to look sexy you can get a truck loaded down with control pills free. . . . The whole plot makes Hitler look like a Boy Scout.’”

The following year (1968) Gregory ran for president of the United States on the “peace and freedom” ticket calling the two-party system “corrupt and immoral.”

Dick Gregory Ebony Magazine: Abortion is Genocide

Dick Gregory Ebony Magazine Abortion is Genocide

Then, in 1971, Gregory penned a controversial Op-ed piece entitled, My Answer to Genocide, which was published in Ebony Magazine.

Gregory, like many other Black leaders of his day, believed that large families were important to the Black power struggle of their time. And, the civil rights activist perceived that the government might be attempting to limit the Black population through their funding of abortion and birth control.

This idea that abortion and birth control were plots to exterminate African Americans was not new.

In fact, there were many prominent African American leaders, including Jesse Jackson, Samuel Yette, Fannie Lou Hamer, Whitney Young and more who were suspicious of government programs that pushed “family planning”, especially those that were placed within Black communities.

That suspicion appears to have had merit.

Research shows that family planning centers and abortion facilities often set up their locations in or near minority communities. In addition, the largest provider of abortions, Planned Parenthood, was founded by a radical advocate of racist eugenics who spoke with the Klu Klux Klan. And, Planned Parenthood’s ties to eugenics go well beyond their founder Margaret Sanger, as Live Action has reported previously.

Today, with Planned Parenthood receiving half a billion in government dollars every year to promote their agenda, not only is the abortion corporation’s market share of abortions increasing, but nationally Black abortions are at frighteningly high levels as well.

In the Ebony article, Gregory begins by criticizing “planned parenthood groups” that call for people to only have 2.5 children.

He dismissed the terminology that claimed a preborn person was merely a fraction of a human to the way Blacks were described during slavery as “three-fifths” human:

My answer to genocide, quite simply is eight Black kids – and a another baby on the way […]

Now planned parenthood groups are saying that a couple should have a maximum of 2 1/2 children. I’m still trying to figure out that half a kid. I know my American history well enough to know what ‘three-fifths’ of a man is, but half-a-kid?

Dick Gregory Ebony Magazine Abortion Genocide article

Gregory, who was born into a poor family, denounces birth control as something that “goes against Nature,” writing:

Can you believe that human beings are the only creatures who would ever consider developing birth control pills? You mention contraception to a gorilla and he will tear your head off.

Although Gregory’s humor is weaved throughout his piece, he is clear about the seriousness of genocide or as he also called it “subtle forms of genocide.” He said:

Genocide has come to mean, acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group as such; by killing members of the group […] imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group […]

Like many Black leaders today, Gregory pointed to a host of ills facing the Black community including police brutality, segregation, the KKK, poverty, and war. But of genocidal measures to “prevent births” within a group, Gregory wrote in Ebony:

There is ample evidence that government programs designed for poor black folks emphasize birth control and abortion availability, both measures obviously designed to limit black population.

In November of 1971, following the birth of Gregory’s ninth child, Jet Magazine pointed again to the civil rights leaders opposition to planned parenthood groups:

At the time, Gregory’s colleague Jesse Jackson shared his views and decried abortion.

In 1971, during public hearings of the Commission on Population Growth and the American Future, the Rev. Jesse Jackson warned that, “Birth Control as a National policy will simply marshal sophisticated methods to remove ( and control when not remove) the weak, the poor – quite likely the black and other minorities whose relative increase in population threatens the white caste in this nation. Contraceptives, will become a form of drug warfare against the helpless in this nation[…]”

(Source: Statements at public hearings of the Commission on Population Growth and the American Future as quoted in: Genocide? Birth Control and the Black American by Robert G. Weisbord, Greenwoor Press, 1972; P. 165)

In 1973, Jesse Jackson stated, “Abortion is genocide,in a Jet Magazine interview.

In that Jet Magazine, Mar 22, 1973, article Jackson added:

“Anything growing is living…If you got the thrill to set the baby in motion and you don’t have the will to protect it, you’re dishonest…You try to avoid reproducing sickness. You try to avoid reproducing deformities. But you don’t try to stop reproducing and procreating human life at its best. For who knows the cure for cancer won’t come out of some mind of some Black child?”

In 1975, at an event sponsored by the National Youth Pro-Life Coalition, Gregory joined Jackson in speaking against abortion.

The Winnipeg Free Press described the group as, “a non-sectarian, non-partisan group working for ‘positive alternatives’ to abortion, war, capital punishment, euthanasia, compulsory sterilization and ‘other forms of violence.’”

According to the media outlet, the Black activists told the group that, “that the nation’s pro-abortion mentality undermines the value and dignity of every human life and that ‘killing babies’ is symptomatic of a civilization
and culture which operates without sacred absolutes.”

Upon news of Gregory’s death, CNN described his first-hand experience with injustice:

In a 1963 protest in which Gregory participated in Birmingham, Alabama, he was arrested and beaten by the police for championing the right of blacks to vote. After that incident, Gregory wrote, ‘It was just body pain, though. The Negro has a callus growing on his soul, and it’s getting harder and harder to hurt him there.’

Like a majority of dishonest media which support abortion, CNN failed to mention Gregory’s opposition to the horrific taking of human life in the womb.

But, stats do not lie, and sadly, reported abortion numbers in the Black and minority communities ring of a certain confirmation about the concerns Gregory and Jackson had.

As a result, the numbers of abortions performed on minorities and specifically Black women remain disproportionately high. As Live Action News has previously documented, in 2011, the CDC revealed that almost 56% of all abortions reported for race were committed on minority women.

The CDC’s 2012 report (dated November 27, 2015) reveals that 55% of abortions reported for race/ethnicity were performed on Black or Hispanic women.

The latest numbers for 2013 (published in 2016) show those numbers remained relatively the same (54.6%).

While Dick Gregory is rightly remembered for his many accomplishments, it is doubtful the news media will discuss how his suspicions about birth control and abortion proved to be true.

After all, if government-funded abortion and birth control are, in fact, genocide against Black community, then why does the media remain supportive of forced taxpayer dollars to such agendas?

And, more importantly, why does Congress continue to fund Planned Parenthood?

Planned Parenthood services in Nevada vs. Federally qualified health centers

Posted in FQHC, Planned Parenthood state stats with tags , , , , , , on August 1, 2017 by saynsumthn

While supporters of Planned Parenthood make claims that defunding the largest chain of abortion clinics in the country will leave millions of women with no place to go, the numbers nationally and more specifically, in Nevada, tell a different story.

Abortion promoters in Nevada are attempting to sway Senator Dean Heller to vote against a measure to defund Planned Parenthood. NARAL, a national abortion advocacy organization and Planned Parenthood (PP), an abortion corporation which receives over half a billion in tax dollars each year are calling on their supporters to contact the offices of Senator Dean Heller to persuade him to support funding abortion-focused organizations and facilities in any Senate version of the health care bill.

Money is fungible and therefore, dollars that are sent to abortion facilities can be used to support day-to-day expenses such as facilities and staff, freeing up other money for abortions. In fact, many of the dollars funneled to PP under the Title X family planning program are currently being sent to locations housed at the same address as Planned Parenthood abortion facilities.

Live Action News has previously documented that Planned Parenthood’s contraception, Pap test, cancer screening, and breast exam numbers have decreased nationally even while government funding and abortions are increasing. Patient numbers at PP have also decreased by more than half a million in the past several years. Planned Parenthood is failing women, all the while ending 900 children’s lives every day through abortion.

But, what about Nevada?

How do patient numbers and other work done by Planned Parenthood compare to those provided by federally qualified health and community centers — which offer many more primary care services?

FACILITIES:

There are currently three PP facilities in the state of Nevada.

Two of those facilities perform abortions and are operated by the Colorado-based affiliate Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM), Inc. The third facility is operated by the California-based affiliate Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) and refers for abortions.

In contrast, there are twelve Rural Health Clinics and six Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), which provide services at thirty-one sites in Nevada, according to the Rural Health Information Hub website.

PATIENTS:

According to stats published by PP, the abortion chain saw a total of 16,007 clients in the state, down from 21,910 patients in 2015.

A media report published in January revealed that about five percent of clients (800) who went to the Nevada Planned Parenthood facilities were Medicaid patients.

Compare those numbers to patients who were seen by the health centers, which again, offer a vast array of primary care services.

In 2015, 83,917 patients were seen by the rural health clinics and the FQHCs, according to the lasted published data on the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) website. This was an increase from 2014, when these centers in the state served 77,805 patients.

CANCER SCREENINGS:

Planned Parenthood lists breast and cervical screenings among others in its category “cancer screenings.”

Currently, the organization reports online that less than 16 percent of clients (2,497) going to PP in Nevada received cancer screenings.

In contrast, numbers from the HRSA website show that, in 2015, 37 percent of patients (31,113) that visited rural health clinics and FQHCs were screened for cervical cancer alone.

ABORTION:

Live Action News was not able to document the actual numbers of abortions performed by PP in Nevada. However, the latest summary data published by the state shows that in 2013, the rate of abortion was highest in three counties. Among them was Clark County, where Planned Parenthood has two abortion facilities.

CONTRACEPTION:

summary of data gathered by PP’s former “special affiliate,” the Guttmacher Institute reveals that in 2015:

  • Two out of 16 counties that provided publicly-funded contraception had at least one Planned Parenthood center.
  • Eight counties that provided contraception had at least one Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).

The data, which looked at PP centers and FQHCs reveals that there were no Planned Parenthood centers located in 14 counties.

Of all the publicly-funded family planning centers in the state, Planned Parenthood operated just five percent (three out of 59).

NATIONAL:

Nationally, services at Planned Parenthood are decreasing. An analysis over the past ten years showed that multiple services have decreased. A sample is listed below:

  • Pap tests– DOWN 74%: 1,116,681 (2005) vs. 293,799 (2015)
  • Breast exams – DOWN 62%: 842,399 (2005) vs. 321,700 (2015)
  • Contraception –  DOWN 25% : 3,744,498 (2005) vs. 2,808,815 (2015)
  • Cancer screenings – DOWN 67%: 2,009,835( 2005) vs. 665,234 (2015)

While politicians continue to send PP more than half a billion dollars each year, the organization’s 2015-2016 annual report reveals that private donations to Planned Parenthood increased by 26 percent from the previous year, swelling by an additional $92 million in 2015-2016. (The total private donations in 2015-2016 were $445.8 million.) The cash flow enabled Planned Parenthood to end the year with an excess of revenue over expenses in the amount of $77.5 million. This excess was an increase of nearly 32 percent over the $58.8 million in excess Planned Parenthood reported in 2014-2015.

The fact is Planned Parenthood does not need taxpayer dollars because Planned Parenthood is NOT a health care agency: they are an abortion corporation.

Every day that Congress fails to defund Planned Parenthood, another $1.5 million of government money is poured into their coffers to enable them to end the lives of 900 preborn children. The American taxpayer should not be forced to continue a violent organization that decreases legitimate work while continuing to commit more abortions.
