Planned Parenthood covers for child sexual predators by failing to report suspicion of sexual abuse when a minor is taken to them for birth control services or abortions. This can be seen in Live Action’s newest docuseries, Aiding Abusers:

In January of 2017, Live Action News published a state by state list of criminal cases where Planned Parenthood failed to report these abuses. Part one demonstrated Planned Parenthood’s failure to report child sexual abuse in Alabama, Arizona, and California. Part two added Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. Another egregious case was found in Washington State. Below are more cases:

Alaska – Dana Ray Thompson

Image: Dana Ray Thompson

Dana Ray Thompson

In Alaska, where Planned Parenthood abortionists have stated that they believe all abortions are “medically necessary,” Dana Ray Thompson was convicted of multiple counts of first and second degree sexual abuse of a minor, plus multiple counts of exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography following his sexual abuse of a teen victim — which included at least one trip to Planned Parenthood for birth control pills.

According to the court document, Thompson was in his mid-forties when he began a sexual relationship with his victim, referred to as “J.C.” The victim was 13 years old when Thompson began grooming her, telling her that “she had grown up,” asking about her bra size, and mentioning to J.C. that he wanted a sex slave.

According to the report, when J.C. turned 14, Thompson began talking to his victim about pornography and master-slave relationships, he then showed J.C. adult pornography. In 2005, Thompson began his sexual encounters with J.C. She was just 14 years old. Thompson then began engaging in more sexual activity with J.C., such as taking nude and sexually suggestive photographs of the young victim.

The court document states that when J.C. turned 15 years old, Thompson took her to Planned Parenthood “so that J.C. could obtain birth control,” after which, the predator and victim engaged in “multiple types of sexual intercourse.”

Given this timeline, it seems obvious from the court record that Planned Parenthood did not report suspicion of abuse. The abuse did not become public until the summer of 2008, three years after Thompson began his sexual assaults on the victim and at least two years after he took her to Planned Parenthood. According to the court document, the abuse became public when “J.C. spoke with a childhood friend who described being molested by an older man.” J.C. eventually told her mother who called the police. By this time, J.C. was 18, and had suffered additional abuse due to Planned Parenthood’s neglect.

Thompson is now registered with the state as a child sex offender and child kidnapper.

Arizona – Mark Joseph Tovar

Image: Mark Tovar

Mark Tovar

According to the Puma County Attorney’s Office, Mark Joseph Tovar began his deviant molestation and sexual assault against his step-daughter when she was about seven years old. He intentionally and maliciously abused her for her entire childhood, grooming her by his gradual sexual advances over a period of about 14 years. According to a court document, when the victim, referred to as “M.G.,” was just 15 years old, Tovar impregnated her. As a result, M.G.’s mother arranged for an abortion in July of 2004, and the documents states that “Tovar knew about M.G.’s pregnancy and abortion.”

The court record indicates that a total of two abortions took place and they both occurred at Planned Parenthood. The second abortion took place after the victim had turned nineteen. In total, the documents indicates that, after Planned Parenthood obviously failed to report suspicion of abuse in the first instance, the victim became pregnant two other times, and kept the baby in one of the instances.

The sexual abuse wasn’t revealed to police until the victim was 22, nearly seven years after she was taken to Planned Parenthood at the age of 15.

Tovar was convicted of two counts of child molestation, three counts of sexual conduct with a minor under the age of fifteen, and four counts of sexual conduct with a minor. In March of 2014, the trial court imposed two life sentences and multiple presumptive terms totaling seventy-four years’ imprisonment, all to be served consecutively.

Illinois – Kenneth Mitchell

Image: Kenneth Mitchell

Kenneth Mitchell

Kenneth Mitchell was arrested by the Chicago Police Department on January 14, 2016, and was charged with sexual assault of a minor less than 13 years of age and sexual assault of a family member under 18. According to the Chicago Tribune, Mitchell sexually assaulted one of his victims from 1999 to 2002. The girl was eight years old when the attacks started, according to Assistant State’s Attorney April Gonzales. The report states, “The victim told a Planned Parenthood counselor of the assaults at some point in 2006 or 2007, Gonzales said. Prosecutors and court record information did not indicate whether the counselor reported the incidents to authorities.” However, the allegations were not reported to police until the fall of 2015, many years after the victim claims she told Planned Parenthood, leaving questions as to whether Planned Parenthood filed a report.

Indiana – Christopher Jewell

Christopher Jewell was the stepfather to a young victim who is referred to as “T.S.” in court documents.

According to the court record, he engaged in a sexual relationship with T.S. from March 25, 2004, through June 30, 2007, while she was between the ages of thirteen and sixteen. The activity included fondling, oral sex, and sexual intercourse. While only six counts were filed against Jewell by the State in this case, the victim testified that he sexually assaulted her over thirty times and maybe as many as fifty times over the three-year period.

The court document states that during the course of the abuse, Jewell took the victim to Planned Parenthood to get her birth control pills without her mother’s knowledge. No other details were mentioned, but this shows that young teens are being taken to Planned Parenthood by their abusers to cover their crimes.

Image: Christopher Jewell took sexual abuse victim to Planned Parenthood

Jewell was not arrested as a result of his visit to Planned Parenthood.

Instead, Jewell was arrested in August 2008, after taking the minor for a tattoo. It was while he was in jail for the charge of aiding or abetting the tattooing of a minor that the victim finally went public about the sexual abuse and revealed to her boyfriend and mother that Jewell sexually abused her. The disclosures were then relayed to authorities.

The State charged Jewell with two counts of Class B felony sexual misconduct with a minor, one count of Class C felony child molesting, one count of Class C felony sexual misconduct with a minor, and two counts of Class D felony child seduction. A jury found Jewell guilty on all six counts, and he was sentenced to an aggregate 40-year term for six counts of sexual misconduct and child molesting.

Texas – James Aaron Lenox

James Aaron Lenox (Image credit: Lone Star Fugitive Task Force)

51-year-old James Aaron Lenox took his victim to Planned Parenthood in Austin because she had never been to a doctor. He was arrested in early 2017 by the Texas’ Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, according to a report by KXAN. The article states that Lenox is accused of sex trafficking the 16-year-old.

According to reports, Lenox allegedly “gained guardianship over the girl, removed her from school, vowed to marry her and at one point threatened to kill her family.”

At the time of his arrest, police found nude pictures of the victim, with documents saying Lenox was the victim’s “uncle.” According to MySanAntonio.com:

After Lenox consented to a vehicle search, deputies found a briefcase containing separate folders. In one folder with a girl’s name on it, the deputies found several nude photos, documents state…. Lenox also allegedly took the girl to Planned Parenthood to get an IUD implanted, the documents said… the girl… was sexually assaulted by him…. Lenox is a registered sex offender who was convicted of indecency with a child via sexual contact in January 1989. The girl he molested was 8 years old.

KXAN reported Lenox told police that “he took the victim to Planned Parenthood in Austin because she had never been to a doctor. He told investigators the victim was worried about having some kind of disease. In an interview, the victim told police she had sexual encounters with Lenox.”

There was no indication in the article that Planned Parenthood contacted police. But whether they did or they did not, this tragic story illustrates how predators use Planned Parenthood, boldly taking their victims to the organization.

The article also notes that Lenox has been charged with trafficking a child — causing the child to engage in sexual conduct, a first degree felony.

Utah – Jose Cazares-Montalvo

Image: Utah sex predator takes teen to Planned Parenthood

Utah sex predator takes teen to Planned Parenthood

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, a 34-year-old man has been charged with 12 counts of rape, after sexually abusing a 15-year-old teen and allegedly taking the child to three Planned Parenthood facilities to attempt to obtain an abortion after he impregnated her.

The only roadblock this male sex predator received from Planned Parenthood was that it was required by state law to obtain parental consent for the abortion. When the predator was told that a parent or guardian must sign for the procedure, he took matters into his own hands, by allegedly giving the teen “a drink to induce a miscarriage.”

The paper did not name the perpetrator (though a second media outlet published the name as Jose Casares-Montalvo), but indicated that the call to police originated not from Planned Parenthood, but from the victim’s mother after she “found a plastic bottle of the liquid mixture in the teen’s room,” telling police that “she suspected her daughter had been raped, according to court documents.”

According to the media report, the predator admitted to police that he took the victim to Planned Parenthood, and “other documents accuse the man of trying to get the abortion ‘to hide what he had done.’”

Live Action News has previously documented cases in which Planned Parenthood staffers were accused of sexual abuse or harassment, as well as cases documenting what happens when sex trafficking victims are taken to abortion and Planned Parenthood facilities. A 2014 report from the Annals of Health Law, “Health Consequences of Sex Trafficking,” quotes one victim claiming that the reason she was taken to Planned Parenthood was because “Planned Parenthood didn’t ask any questions.”

Live Action previously released its own child sexual abuse investigation, which found that eight Planned Parenthood facilities in six different states were willing to cover up sexual abuse, including disregarding mandatory reporting laws of suspected statutory rape.

In addition, another undercover investigation by Live Action caught Planned Parenthood staffers willing to aid undercover investigators, posing as sex traffickers. Below is a compilation reel of that investigation:

Today, Planned Parenthood receives half a billion in tax dollars annually, thanks to Congress, which continues to fund the organization despite its known abuses and despite regulations showing that government dollars can be removed when providers of Title X Family Planning funds fail to report child abuse. And, just like the Harvey Weinsteins of the world, Planned Parenthood has its own complicity machine made up in part by the media and politicians who give them cover while they aid in the continued abuse of children.

‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’: Planned Parenthood sends pre-teen victims back to sexual abusers

Image: Aiding Abusers Sex Abuse Cover Up at Planned Parenthood Recorded Cases

Is Planned Parenthood an enabler where sexual abuse is concerned, because of its failure to report suspected abuse, leaving victims vulnerable? According to a new docuseries released this week by Live Action, Aiding Abusers, the answer is yes. The nation’s number one abortion corporation has failed to report sexual abuse many times — even child sexual abuse. The compelling evidence contained in Live Action’s Aiding Abusers docuseries and investigative report includes undercover investigations, witness testimony, and court documents, along with news reports showing that sexual abuse victims continued to be abused because of Planned Parenthood’s apparent “don’t ask/don’t tell” practices on reporting sexual abuse.

Today, as society takes a stand against complicity in covering sexual abuse through social media campaigns such as #MeToo and #TimesUp, Planned Parenthood, a corporation which has profits of millions of dollars a year and receives half a billion in taxpayer dollars annually, must also be held accountable.

Live Action president and founder Lila Rose stated in a press release:

Despite Planned Parenthood’s public rhetoric as well as laws requiring it to report suspected abuse, its failure to report has been deliberate and widespread. Time and again, rather than reporting abuse to authorities, Planned Parenthood has repeatedly looked the other way and performed abortions on victims as young as 12 years old. These girls deserved advocacy but instead Planned Parenthood staff ignored their abuse and returned them to the waiting arms of their abusers.

Because of flagrant violations like these, the proposed Title X rule tightening on reporting abuse is absolutely necessary. Planned Parenthood has proven that its priority is selling abortions, not caring for the most vulnerable of girls. Planned Parenthood’s culture of cover-up must end, the cycle of abuse of innocent children must end, and Planned Parenthood’s half a billion dollars in annual federal funding must end. Taxpayers cannot be forced to subsidize these abuses of children.

Live Action is releasing this report as the Time’s Up movement is exposing both sexual abusers and those who help them cover up their crimes — the people who knew about the abuse but stayed silent. While Planned Parenthood has attached itself to the Time’s Up movement, the movement should be calling out Planned Parenthood for decades of enabling sexual abusers.

In the most recent of several releases in their Aiding Abusers series, Live Action details just of few of the heart wrenching criminal cases of rape and sexual abuse that have been uncovered, showing that time and again, Planned Parenthood’s response was not to protect these victims, but instead to release them back to their abusers:

CASE INFORMATION

Police report shows Planned Parenthood failed to report rape in AZ

Arizona, 2014

In 2014, a Planned Parenthood counselor “intentionally miscoded” a sexual assault report as a “consensual encounter” to avoid reporting the incident to police, according to a report by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

The 15-year-old victim allegedly became pregnant from a rape and sought an abortion at a Tempe Planned Parenthood. The rape was perpetrated by 18-year-old Tyler Kost. According to reports, the counselor told the victim and her mother that it “wasn’t worth the hassle” to report the rape.

If the workers had reported the alleged assault, it could have jump-started a sheriff’s investigation into Kost months before he allegedly assaulted other teens at his school, court documents say.

Tyler Kost was charged with sexually assaulting 11 girls from the ages of 12 to 17, although authorities believe he assaulted additional students, according to a Fox News report.

On Feb. 10, 2017, Kost was sentenced to three years in prison in this serial sex crimes case.

Ohio, 2004

Sexual abuse victim Denise Fairbanks claims that Planned Parenthood’s “don’t ask/don’t tell” practices caused her to undergo additional abuse after she was taken to Planned Parenthood in 2004 by her father, John Blanks, who began sexually abusing her when she was just 13 years old. In her lawsuit, Fairbanks claims that she told Planned Parenthood about the abuse, but rather than help her, the workers there became complicit in covering sexual abuse by failing to report it to authorities.

Life Legal Defense Foundation, whose attorney represented Fairbanks, states on its website:

When she became pregnant at age 16, her father took her to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. Although she informed the abortion clinic staff that she was being forced to have sex, they chose not to comply with mandatory reporting procedures. The Planned Parenthood staff did not inform local law enforcement, nor did they make any further inquiries into Fairbanks’ paternal abuse. After the abortion, Fairbanks was returned to the same abusive situation, where she remained for another year-and-a-half. More than a year later, her father was apprehended through a report filed by Denise’s basketball coach, and sent to jail.

Image: Planned Parenthood Ohio failed to report sexual abuse John Blanks case

Planned Parenthood eventually settled the case. However, the victim claims that “Planned Parenthood did everything possible to try to defeat my claims and drown out my message, that when Planned Parenthood knows or suspects that a young girl is being sexually abused, it must meet its duties under the law and immediately report that abuse to the proper authorities.”

“This is just one of multiple cases that have demonstrated Planned Parenthood’s willingness to cover for sex offenders,” said Dana Cody, then Executive Director of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. Cody was referring to another example, the case of Roe v. Planned Parenthood from the same Hamilton County Court, which was resolved previously. Cody added:

“What this young woman went through as a young teenager is horrifying enough. She was forcibly raped, impregnated, forced to have an abortion, and then sent back for more abuse — a tragedy that Planned Parenthood could have prevented by simply complying with the law.”

“Ms. Fairbanks’ case, like others before it, has demonstrated a disturbing trend in Planned Parenthood practice, a continued disregard for the health and well-being of women and children.”

Ohio, 2004

“Jane Roe” was just 13 years old when her when her soccer coach, John Haller, began a sexual relationship with the child. In March of 2004, when Jane was 14, the 21-year-old coach impregnated “Jane” and took her for  an abortion at a Planned Parenthood in Southwest Ohio.

According to oral arguments before the Supreme Court of Ohio, when Haller persuaded her to have an abortion, she lied to abortion workers and said that she had been impregnated by a classmate and that her parents consented to the abortion. She gave them Haller’s cell phone number, saying it was her father’s.

Image: Planned Parenthood Ohio failed to report sexual abuse John Haller case

Planned Parenthood Ohio failed to report sexual abuse John Haller case

Planned Parenthood called the number but made no effort to verify that the person they were getting consent from was her father and not her abuser. They also didn’t obtain written parental consent, but merely verbal consent from an unknown person on the other end of the line. In fact, the victim’s parents never provided consent for the abortion.

Haller then took “Jane” to Planned Parenthood for an abortion, claiming to be her stepbrother. Despite her age, the abortion center did not report any suspected abuse to authorities. Shortly after the abortion, Haller resumed having sex with “Jane.” As a result of a subsequent report made by a teacher, Haller was later found guilty of seven counts of sexual battery.

Jane’s parents later filed a civil suit seeking damages from Planned Parenthood, alleging:

  1. Planned Parenthood intentionally violated Ohio’s informed consent laws for failing to meet with the teen 24 hours in advance of the abortion (instead, they let Haller pick up some documents from their offices to take to Jane);
  2. Planned Parenthood failed to obtain their written consent for the abortion;
  3. Planned Parenthood failed to notify police or a child services agency of suspected sexual abuse of a minor.

Planned Parenthood settled the case. After a criminal investigation, Haller was convicted of seven counts of sexual battery.

Washington, 2017

According to a November 2017 Court of Appeals document from the state of Washington, George Savanah repeatedly raped his daughter and impregnated her when she was 14, 16, and 17 years old, then took her to Planned Parenthood to cover his crimes. The court document reveals that Savanah took the victim to two different Planned Parenthood facilities for abortion procedures.

As Live Action News previously reported, the court record also indicates that no one else knew about the child’s pregnancies [except for the two abortion facilities] and that the victim had never had sex with anyone but Savanah.

Father impregnates daughter three times and takes her to Planned Parenthood

The sexual assaults only became public once the victim, not Planned Parenthood, spoke to her aunt about the abuse, nearly seven years after the victim was taken for her first abortion at Planned Parenthood. Savanah was eventually convicted of two counts of third degree rape of a child and two counts of first degree incest. Savanah was sentenced to 120 months plus 18 months community custody, which he appealed.

Colorado, 2012

A lawsuit filed against Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood and several of its staffers revealed that after a 13-year-old child became pregnant by her stepfather, Timothy David Smith, he brought her to Planned Parenthood to cover up his crime. Tragically, according to the court documentnot one of the four staffers with whom the victim interacted bothered to inquire about the circumstances of her pregnancy, or even verified her relationship with Smith.

Image: Planned Parenthood Colorado failed to report sexual abuse Timothy D Smith case

Planned Parenthood Colorado failed to report sexual abuse Timothy D Smith case

The document states, in part:

On May 3, 2012, R.Z. was thirteen (13) years of age and had been the victim of sexual abuse by her step-father, Timothy David Smith (“Smith”) for approximately seven (7) years… Approximately three weeks prior to May 3, 2012, R.Z. took a pregnancy test at the direction of Smith, due to concerns that she might be pregnant. The test indicated that R.Z. was pregnant. A few days to a week before May 3, 2012, Smith pressured R.Z. to call Planned Parenthood to make an appointment for an abortion. The appointment for an abortion was scheduled for May 3, 2012 at Planned Parenthood’s 7155 East 38th Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80207, location. On May 3, 2012, Smith transported R.Z. to Planned Parenthood’s facility… for her appointment and accompanied her inside the facility. In connection with the abortion, Planned Parenthood required certain forms to be completed. Although R.Z. wrote her date of birth and signed some of the forms, the majority of the forms were completed by Smith, and R.Z. did not read them…

The lawsuit goes on to state that no one at Planned Parenthood spoke to the victim about potential sexual abuse nor verified her relationship with Smith.

In a shocking admission during a deposition in the case, one employee stated that “being 13 and pregnant alone is not a red flag” for possible abuse, in Planned Parenthood’s opinion.

Months after the abortion, the abuse ended after the victim reported it to her mother.

California, 2010

Edgar Ramirez raped his 13-year-old daughter and impregnated her two times, resulting in two abortions at Planned Parenthood.

According to court documents, the first abortion occurred in July 2010. But rather than suspecting abuse when a 13-year-old child presented to Planned Parenthood as pregnant, the abortionist simply committed the procedure and advised the victim (again, only 13 years old) not to have sex for three weeks after her abortion.

Image: Planned Parenthood California failed to report sexual abuse Edgar Ramirez case

Planned Parenthood California failed to report sexual abuse Edgar Ramirez case

Following that abortion, court documents showed Ramirez resumed having sex with the child “a couple of days later.”

Then, within a few months, Ramirez got his daughter pregnant again, resulting in a second Planned Parenthood abortion, at which time the abortionist implanted an IUD to prevent additional pregnancies. Ramirez wasn’t arrested until the spring of 2011, after the child reported the abuse to police.

According to the court document, the trial court sentenced Ramirez to life in prison.

Arizona, 2002

23-year-old Shawn M. Stevens impregnated his young victim not once, but twice, and each time he turned to Planned Parenthood for an abortion to cover his crimes. A timeline from the lawsuitindicates that on November 10, 1998, the victim, a 12-year-old child, referred to in court documents as “Jane Roe,” was taken by Stevens to Planned Parenthood for the first abortion.

Image: Planned Parenthood Arizona failed to report sexual abuse Shawn M Stevens case

Planned Parenthood Arizona failed to report sexual abuse Shawn M Stevens case

The abortion corporation not only committed the abortion on the girl, but failed to suspect that a pregnant 12-year-old child might be the victim of abuse, and therefore, she was handed back over to Stevens to be abused for an additional six months. By the time the victim turned 13, Stevens had again impregnated the child again. So, Stevens did what many other pedophiles have done. He turned again to Planned Parenthood. On May 6, 1999, he took the child for a second abortion. According to the case, “Only after the second abortion did Planned Parenthood notify authorities on May 11, 1999,” and media reports indicate that Stevens was arrested in June of that same year and sentenced in 2000 to five years in prison and lifetime probation.

Image: article Girls Sues Planned Parenthood failed to report sexual abuse Shawn M Stevens Case

Girls Sues Planned Parenthood failed to report sexual abuse Shawn M Stevens Case

But even the timeline surrounding when Planned Parenthood reported the abuse is disturbing and indicates that they waited five days after the abortion to care to say anything to the authorities. Given this timeframe, it would seem that the sexually abused child was handed back over to her abuser a second time after visiting the abortion business. As a result, the victim sued Planned Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona along with several others for failing to report the abuse.

The lawsuit states in part:

“Had Planned Parenthood properly reported the incident to authorities, the perpetrator of the child molestation and sexual exploitation would have been apprehended by authorities and Jane Doe would not have had to go through a second abortion procedure. As a direct and proximate result of the gross negligence of Planned Parenthood, Jane Doe has suffered physical pain, humiliation, emotional distress, and permanent psychological damages…Plaintiff alleges that the second procedure may have caused permanent physical injury to Jane Doe.”

In 2002, the Associated Press reported that the judge found Planned Parenthood negligent in the case. In court papers, the organization defended not reporting the abortion because “it does not follow that the negligence caused damages,” and “no reporting would have been required if she had been eight months older,” the AP reported.

Stevens was charged with two counts of sexual conduct with a minor and sentenced in 2000 to five years in prison and lifetime probation.

Pennsylvania, 2013

In 2013, Pennsylvania Department of Health inspectors conducted an annual survey of a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood. They discovered that while some female patients admitted to being sexually active since the ages of 11 and 12, in at least six instances, the abortion provider did not inquire about the possibility of sexual abuse, nor did staff report the cases to authorities, as required by law.

Live Action is among several organizations to document the repeated and systemic abuse cover-upsat Planned Parenthood, publishing several cases (herehere, and here). And, tragically, additional cases will be published in reports by Live Action regarding the Aiding Abusers series.

As stated in Live Action’s investigative report, “Live Action has documented many of Planned Parenthood’s failures and cover-ups, many other groups, such as Alliance Defending Freedom, Life Legal Defense Foundation, Life Dynamics, Americans United for Life, and others, have participated in legal actions or have collected reams of documents from lawsuits, court filings, and regulatory agency reports. Their work has contributed significantly to Live Action’s report.”

While society is demanding that Hollywood, the media, and other institutions and industries be held to account for complicity in covering sexual abuse, this abortion corporation continues to receive a pass at the expense of the victims they are legally required to protect.

Just listen to the words of sexual abuse victim Denise Fairbanks, whose case was highlighted in the videos:

She’s out there. Somewhere. A girl just like me. Somewhere there’s a young innocent girl—barely a teenager. And right now, she’s suffering from the horrors of sexual abuse at the hands of an adult as I did. Somewhere “that girl” is getting raped. Like I was. Impregnated. Like I was. And she may be taken to a Planned Parenthood abortion center. Like I was.

“That girl” may actually be telling Planned Parenthood that she’s being abused. Probably by her boyfriend. In my case, I was abused by my own father…

For six years Planned Parenthood did everything possible to try to defeat my claims and drown out my message, that when Planned Parenthood knows or suspects that a young girl is being sexually abused, it must meet its duties under the law and immediately report that abuse to the proper authorities.

The cases, according to Live Action president and founder Lila Rose, “show a systemic pattern of behavior at Planned Parenthood who claims that sexual assault victims come to its facilities on a daily basis.”

In future video releases, Live Action will continue to demonstrate how Planned Parenthood’s cover-ups aid abusers, and why this organization should be investigated and defunded immediately.

Margaret Sanger’s statue at the Smithsonian Institute is ‘a slap in the face to Black folks’

|  From Live Action News

The controversy around the removal of statues that portray racist historical figures fail to spotlight Margaret Sanger, whose bust is in the Smithsonian and whose name is displayed on a Planned Parenthood building. Sanger was a proponent of eugenics who spoke to the women’s branch of Klan in 1926. She also created the “Negro Project” in which she schemed to use Black ministers in her work because she did not, “[…] want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.”

Despite acknowledgment that their founder had “flaws,” Planned Parenthood continues to honor her as a “trailblazer.” But, as society learns of Sanger’s eugenic ideology which led to the forced sterilization of minorities, as well as her speech before the Klan, they have become increasingly critical.  This has prompted the abortion corporation, whose history also includes associations with the racist eugenics movement, to allegedly “disavow” Sanger’s racist beliefs.

But, as Live Action News has documented, those words have little meaning when you see that Sanger’s name is prominently displayed on one of their facilities. And worse yet is the fact that the Finger Lake facility is listed as Title X-funded in New York’s 2016 directory. This means that this Planned Parenthood facility receives tax dollars, despite displaying the name of a racist on their building.

Margaret Sanger’s name on Planned Parenthood building

Just as outrageous is the fact that when a local media outlet highlighted this Planned Parenthood they failed to mention Sanger’s past. Instead, the news outlet touted Planned Parenthood’s “services” even though nationally Planned Parenthood is losing patients and decreasing legitimate health services while increasing the number of abortions.  By using half a billion in tax dollars every year, Planned Parenthood has managed to garner over 34 percent of the nation’s abortion market share while skating criticism of their racist history.

In addition to placing her name outside the facility, Planned Parenthood’s centers in two states are named after Sanger:

As a result, the city of New York’s website shows the street in front of Planned Parenthood’s New York facility has been designated “Margaret Sanger Square”..

Margaret Sanger Street

In addition, NYC’s Margaret Sanger Clinic has been designated a National Historic Landmark even though it is not open to the public. But, Margaret Sanger buildings and landmarks are just the tip of the iceberg.

Statues of the Klan speaker also exist and surprisingly have been allowed to remain. According to Halpern Blog, the Old South Meeting House in Boston has a statue of Sanger on display as seen below:

Margaret Sanger Statue Old South Meeting House (image credit Halperns blog)

And the Brooklyn Museum celebrates the eugenicist with a display called, “Margaret Sanger’s plate at The Dinner Party.” They describe the table setting as “painted with bright red glazes that evoke the female reproductive organs and the blood that is involved in the reproductive process, as well as the battle for reproductive freedom.”

Margaret Sanger bust national portrait gallery of Smithsonian

Just as disturbing is the fact that Sanger’s bust is displayed at the Smithsonian Institute next to those of legitimate civil rights heroes. The bronze sculpture is owned by the National Portrait Gallery and is located in the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit. The Gallery’s description of Sanger reads in part:

Adding to her life of controversy is her association with the eugenics movement-which included promotion of forced sterilization for those deemed mentally unfit-a movement that for a time was endorsed by many of the era’s prominent thinkers.

The bust was the gift of Mrs. Cordelia Scaife May an anti-immigration zealot who was a key backer of John Tanton, a former Michigan Planned Parenthood Director who founded anti-immigration groups, such as FAIR.  May was also instrumental in a failed bid to pressure the US Postmaster in 1966 to produce a commemorative stamp in honor of Sanger.

According to a report by the LA Times May was, “a generous supporter of Planned Parenthood, which in its early days supported population control.”

A letter of outrage, written and signed by several prominent Black leaders, called for the removal of the bust. The group asked if the Smithsonian Institute was aware that Sanger supported eugenics, held an elitist attitude toward those she regarded as “the feeble minded,” spoke to Ku Klux Klan supporters, and communicated with Hitler sympathizers:

How can a person like Sanger, who found common cause with the racial agenda of the Ku Klux Klan (“KKK”), be ranked among true champions of ‘justice?’ She was a purveyor of grave injustice against the most vulnerable.

Adding:

Ironically, Sanger’s bust is featured in the NPG’s ‘Struggle for Justice’ exhibit, alongside two of America’s most celebrated and authentic champions of equal rights – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks. If Sanger had her way, MLK and Rosa Parks would not have been born.

At a press conference denouncing Sanger’s bust two years ago, the Rev. Dr. Johnny Hunter, spokesperson for BlackGenocide.org, commented that “Putting that mess up there is not going to help. The last thing we need is a White Supremacist sitting between the bust of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. That’s just a slap in the face to Black folks.”

Star Parker, a Black pro-life advocate, also responded, “Margaret Sanger is a racist who wanted to end the black population through birth control and abortion. She founded Planned Parenthood. But the Smithsonian, funded by our tax dollars, celebrates this woman, even mentioning her advocacy of eugenics! They don’t even hide it! It is breathtaking in its idiocy.”

In Fiscal Year 2016, the Smithsonian’s federal appropriation was $840 million and by 2017 it grew to $922 million. Tax dollars make up about 60 percent of their budget (a combination of the congressional appropriation and federal grants and contracts).

Instead of removing Sanger’s bust, the National Portrait Gallery Director Kim Sajet’s response was to diminish Sanger’s racism, by writing, “Her association with the eugenics movement shadowed her achievements in sex education and contraception, making her a figure of controversy, one whose complexities and contradictions mirror her times.” She told the Black leaders, “I […] respectfully decline to remove her portrait [sic] from the museum.”

Apparently, the excuse that a racist was just a product of their time and therefore deserves to be honored holds true only if you are the founder of the largest abortion corporation in the United States.

Planned Parentrhood’s “Blueprint” to force taxpayers to pay for birth control began under Guttmacher

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 3, 2017 by saynsumthn

Planned Parenthood has always been about making sure fewer poor people actually become parents — and here’s proof

In 1966, Planned Parenthood‘s medical director, Alan Guttmacher (a former VP for the American Eugenics Society and founder of the Guttmacher Institute), proposed a blueprint to force taxpayers to pay for birth control access for the poor. Elected to Planned Parenthood’s national board in 1962, Guttmacher believed (as did many eugenicists) that the poor needed access to birth control.

But while publicly, the messaging was one of empowering others to make “choices,” the real motivation was population control. Guttmacher once told the New York Times, “The main goal of our program is not just to limit population, but to give everyone the same opportunity for quality medical care.” Note that Guttmacher acknowledged population control as one of the goals, but clothed it in the same type of messaging used by modern-day Planned Parenthood: the language of access to “health care” or “medical care.”

Planned Parenthood’s ultimate goal was to convince the public that taxpayer-funded “family planning” — directed at preventing births among the poor — would save the taxpayer money. And, just like today, the nation’s largest abortion provider accomplished this goal with the help of politicians on both sides of the aisle.

In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson lent his support to taxpayer funded “family planning” efforts, stating in a speech that for every five dollars spent on population control, more than a hundred would be invested in economic growth. The scheme to promote the use of taxpayer dollars as a way to “reduce costs” was detailed in the film Maafa21:

The “plan” — described by a 1966 NYT article as a “partnership of public and private agencies” — was to make birth control services “freely available to every American by 1970” in an effort to prevent about 250,000 pregnancies every year. It was presented at Planned Parenthood’s New York headquarters by the organization’s then-president, George N. Lindsay, who called it the “best bargain in health services that money could buy.”

Planned Parenthood president George N Lindsay (image credit: NYT)

“We have the technological know-how — pills and intrauterine devices,” Lindsay is quoted as saying. “We have the support of Government. President Johnson has called for increased birth control services in the past two State of the Union messages. And now we have devised a methodology for solving a huge problem in five years.”

That same year, President Johnson accepted Planned Parenthood’s highest award (the Margaret Sanger Award) for his policies pushing family planning for foreign countries. The founder of Planned Parenthood, Sanger’s work in the eugenics movement has been highly criticized by many modern African-American leaders. Sanger, who gave at least one speech to the Ku Klux Klan and stacked Planned Parenthood’s boards with eugenicists, advocated the sterilization of the so-called “unfit.”

Today, despite her involvement in the eugenics movement, Planned Parenthood labels Sanger a heroine and has positioned her name in a place of honor on at least one of its centers.

Margaret Sanger’s name on Planned Parenthood building

By 1969, the so-called “Planned Parenthood blueprint” to force taxpayers to fund birth control was underway, as recounted by the New York Times:

Whatever the merits of the argument, the ghetto approach is now the federation’s chief thrust, and it is also the policy of the Federal Government, which since 1966 has undergone a dramatic reversal,  moving from almost no action on birth control to a proposed expenditure in 1969 of $31 million. Last month the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) recommended the adoption of Planned Parenthood’s “blueprint” for supplying free birth control device to some five million American women below the poverty line.

The “plan” was highly criticized by the Black community, which saw the move as a means of racist Black genocide.  “Among other things, this policy has brought the Planned Parenthood Federation under attack from black militants who see ‘family planning’ as a euphemism for race genocide,” the NYT reported.

To prove the genocidal fear had merit among minority groups, the paper published statistics that supported “the suspicion that Black people are taking the brunt of the ‘planning.’” Black birth rates fell in several cities:

  • Lincoln Parish, LA: 32% (1966-67)
  • Washington, DC : 24% (three years)
  • Baltimore, MD: 36% (since 1965)

A 1966 internal memo from Alan Guttmacher and Fred Jaffe outlined a new “community relations program” for winning over the Black community by “form[ing] a liaison between Planned Parenthood and minority organizations.” The plan, according to Planned Parenthood, was to emphasize that “all people have the opportunity to make their own choices,” rather than, as the memo states, exhortation telling them how many children they should have.”

Guttmacher said at the time that the plan was “long overdue” but stressed, “we do not need to panic. In fact, if we panic and continue to publicize the ‘problem’, we may well exacerbate it.”

Also in 1966, Planned Parenthood gave its Margaret Sanger Award to Martin Luther King, Jr. Whatever Planned Parenthood was trying to accomplish, it worked. By 1969, then Congressman George H.W. Bush (R-Texas) chaired the Republican Task Force on Population and Earth Resources, created in part to ascertain the resistance to family planning among “certain groups.” He determined that “[s]o far, it looks like opposition from religious groups and the Black militants isn’t too serious.”

Planned Parenthood’s “blueprint” called for an expenditure of about one percent of the nation’s health budget, with an anticipated $78 million from taxpayers in 1970. It also called for an expansion of hospitals’ family planning services as well as programs financed by the federal anti-poverty program. By 1970, the United States House of Representatives voted 298 to 32 to approve the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act, Title X of the Public Health Service Act, authorizing federal dollars to pay for family planning services for low-income women. This legislation would become known as the Title X statute, which today allocates millions of federal tax dollars to Planned Parenthood and other family planning organizations.

In 1971, Congress allocated $6,000,000 for the Title X program. The following year, funding was increased to ten times as much: $61,815,000. Title X funding peaked in 2010 with a high of $317,491,000 and dropped to $286,479,000 for fiscal year 2017. President Trump’s FY2018 budget request includes $286.5 million for Title X, the same as the FY2017 enacted level.

TitleX Funding History CBO

Although Federal law prohibits the use of Title X funds in programs where abortion is a method of family planning, recipients of the dollars can be abortion providers. The reason for this is that Title X requirements allow recipients of these federal dollars to discuss abortion with patients under the term “options counseling,” telling providers that they must offer pregnant women the opportunity to receive information and counseling on each of the following options:

  • prenatal care and delivery
  • infant care, foster care, or adoption
  • pregnancy termination

In other words, Planned Parenthood can use the same rooms within the same facilities to commit abortions as they do to perform “options counseling,” during which they can refer for abortions as well as provide tax-funded family planning services under Title X.

Live Action investigations have already documented the abysmal way that Planned Parenthood handles inquiries from pregnant women seeking prenatal care at their facilities. With few exceptions, abortion is the only option Planned Parenthood offers pregnant women:

Research conducted by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) reveals that Planned Parenthood affiliates participating in Title X spent $64.35 million in taxpayer dollars in 2012.

Despite deceptive marketing from politicians who claim that defunding the abortion corporation would hurt women, studies show that women do not need Planned Parenthood to get contraception care. Despite Planned Parenthood’s desperate attempt to reinvent itself as a health care provider, it is the number one provider of abortions in the United States, claiming 35 percent of the abortion market share nationwide. The organization has millions of dollars in excess revenue each year (despite its being classified as a nonprofit organization), and has recently boasted of the private donations flooding into its coffers.

In addition, actual health care services at Planned Parenthood are dwindling while abortions are increasing. In addition, Planned Parenthood is not a trusted recipient of tax dollars, with its history of fraud and abuse and its failure to report suspected child abuse (which Live Action News reported about here and here) — a reason that alone should result in the organization losing taxpayer dollars under Title X.

Planned Parenthood’s free birth control scheme has resulted in millions upon millions in taxpayer funding each year. Instead of those dollars doing good for women, they are aiding an abortion corporation which ends the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent preborn babies every year. That is not a blueprint that anyone should follow.

Here are a dozen things the media won’t tell you about Planned Parenthood

Posted in HIPPA, Planed Parenthood abortion death, Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood 3% myth, Planned Parenthood abortion numbers, Planned Parenthood abortion stats, Planned Parenthood and Rape, Planned Parenthood and Sex Trafficking, Planned Parenthood fined by state, Planned Parenthood medicaid fraud, Planned Parenthood services, Planned Parenthood six digit salary, Planned Parenthood's botched surgery, Privacy, Title X with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 21, 2017 by saynsumthn

Planned Parenthood should be defunded. Despite all its scandals over the years, the pro-abortion mainstream media has largely kept the evidence of this from taxpayers. Perhaps it’s because the media approves of Planned Parenthood’s agenda, and the agenda of the politicians who defend the organization.

The media manipulates the American public by refusing to tell the truth about Planned Parenthood’s abuses, a fact Live Action News previously documented. Instead, the media repeats Planned Parenthood’s PR-approved talking points while failing to report important investigations exposing Planned Parenthood’s lies and deceptions.

Here are some facts about Planned Parenthood that mainstream media has failed to report:

Fact #1: Planned Parenthood is a private corporation whose political action committee contributes heavily to the same politicians sending them millions of dollars each year — over half a billion annually. PP is a master manipulator and marketer politically and this drives the dollars politicians send them. Planned Parenthood’s CEO, Cecile Richards, was not hired for her health care “experience” but for her political savvy, as Live Action News’ Rebecca Downs has explained:

Planned Parenthood may claim to be a health organization, but Richards herself has no health experience — her background is in politics, a background which even the Planned Parenthood website emphasizes. In addition to running Planned Parenthood, she also runs Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which is — you guessed it — a political organization. After Richards spoke before Congress in September 2015, the Oversight Committee expressed concerns that there was an overlap in where Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer money was going. Are Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood Action Fund really so different?

Fact #2: Planned Parenthood masquerades as a health care provider. This scheme to reinvent themselves was developed years ago, as Live Action News has detailed here, to mask the fact that they are the largest chain of abortion facilities in the United States.

Fact #3: There are thousands of federally qualified health centers which provide far superior health care to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood has lost more than half a million patients (600,000) since 2011. Yet, taxpayer-funded health centers, as identified by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), increased patients by over 2 million by 2015, providing care to 24,295,946.

Fact #4: Planned Parenthood services are on the decline despite major increases in government funding. Except, of course, when it comes to abortion, where Planned Parenthood garners nearly 35 percent of the market share.

  • MAMMOGRAMS: Planned Parenthood performed zero, because Planned Parenthood facilities do not have mammogram machines. Yet, in 2015, federal health centers performed mammograms on over 521,000 patient,  an increase from 470,000 in 2014.
  • BREAST EXAMS dropped 12 percent in 2015 at Planned Parenthood, and between 2004 and 2015, breast exams at Planned Parenthood declined by more than 65 percent.
  • PAP TESTS: Planned Parenthood’s 2015 report reveals that Pap tests declined 75 percent from 2004. Yet, in 2015, federal health centers administered over 1.8 million Pap tests to patients — an increase from 1.7 million in 2014.
  • CANCER SCREENINGS declined at Planned Parenthood from last year’s figures, and, between 2004 and 2015, cancer screenings there plummeted 69 percent.
  • PRENATAL CARE: Planned Parenthood is deceptive about providing prenatal care, which was nearly cut in half in 2015. Since 2010, prenatal care at Planned Parenthood has decreased nearly 70 percent. Yet, in 2015, federal health centers cared for a total of 552,000 prenatal patients — an increase from 528,000 prenatal patients in 2014.

Fact #5: Planned Parenthood claims defunding their organization will hurt poor women yet Planned Parenthood’s own officials rake in hefty six digit salaries, getting regular raises. An analysis of CEO compensation at Planned Parenthood by STOPP revealed that the top 68 people at Planned Parenthood take home $18.1 million combined.

Fact #6: Planned Parenthood has been netting a profit for many years, exceeding its expenses — not just by a few dollars, but by tens of millions of dollars (yearly surpluses range from $12.2 million in 2001 to a high of $155.5 million in 2010).

Fact #7: Women can die after receiving Planned Parenthood’s “services.” Cree Erwin-Sheppard recently died after her abortion at a Michigan Planned Parenthood. Tonya Reaves was left bleeding inside Planned Parenthood’s Chicago facility for hours. She died later at a hospital.

Abortion deaths and injuries at Planned Parenthood (image by Operation Rescue)

Fact #8: Emergencies at Planned Parenthood are on the rise. The pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue (OR) has documented that a number of Planned Parenthood centers have had to call for emergency transports of patients. OR reports that “since January 1, 2016, Operation Rescue has documented 40 such incidents at Planned Parenthood abortion centers alone.”

Fact #9: Undercover footage from the Center for Medical Progress caught Planned Parenthood haggling over prices for aborted baby parts. Planned Parenthood’s CEO admitted they still participate in fetal harvesting, saying at the time, “Planned Parenthood is proud of its limited role in supporting fetal tissue research.”

The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives‘ final report into the fetal parts industry found several disturbing issues with Planned Parenthood. Live Action News contributor Susan Michelle-Hanson reviewed the 471-page report and noted that Planned Parenthood “committed systematic violations of the HIPAA Privacy Rule from about 2010 to 2015, and that “violations occurred when the abortion clinics disclosed patients’ individually identifiable health information to StemExpress to facilitate the [tissue procurement business]’s efforts to procure human fetal tissue for resale.”

Fact #10: Planned Parenthood has violated the trust of patients by violating patient privacy, as stated above. In addition, an analysis by Live Action News found many other instances of privacy leaks by the government funded abortion business.

Fact #11: Planned Parenthood has been cited for overbilling abuses and has been accused of Medicaid fraud.

2017 report, conducted by the Charlotte Lozier Institute and Alliance Defending Freedom, looked at publicly available audits and discovered several egregious examples of fraud and abuse associated with Planned Parenthood.

Among other abuses, the study found:

  • Planned Parenthood affiliates have been identified as the source of at least $12.8 million in waste, abuse, and potentially fraudulent overbilling and penalties.
  • One audit uncovered $5.2 million in overbilling by two California Planned Parenthood affiliates; the average overbilled amount per audited year in a single audit was $94,409.
  • Three federal audits specifically identify Planned Parenthood – and only Planned Parenthood– as the problem in state family planning program overbilling.

Fact #12: Planned Parenthood has been caught failing to report child sexual abuse (a violation that alone should result in the organization losing millions of taxpayer dollars granted to it under the federal Title X Family Planning Program). Reports also found that victims of sex trafficking are sometimes taken to Planned Parenthood centers for forced abortions by their pimps.

So, when it comes to health care for women, Planned Parenthood is far from the worthy organization it claims to be. The bottom line is that American taxpayer should not be obligated or forced to hand millions of dollars to an abortion corporation with fraud and serious abuses on their record.

Why did Senator Susan Collins vote to continue funding Planned Parenthood?

Posted in Defund Planned Parenthood, FQHC, HRSA, Planned Parenthood abortion numbers, Planned Parenthood politicians, Planned Parenthood Prenatal, Planned Parenthood services, State Abortion Stats with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 22, 2017 by saynsumthn

Why did Senator Susan Collins vote to continue funding Planned Parenthood, when its health care services have been plummeting for a decade?

Two Republican Senators, Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R- Maine), are being credited with halting a Congressional effort to defund the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood. In a previous post, Live Action News documented Sen. Murkowski’s inaccurate claim that Planned Parenthood is a health care agency worthy of taxpayer funds. In this post, we will examine whether the activities of Planned Parenthood in Sen. Collins’ state of Maine live up to her statements defending the organization.

Maine Senator Susan Collins defends Planned Parenthood

In 2015, following the release of the Center for Medical Progress’s undercover videos of Planned Parenthood representatives haggling over prices for aborted baby body parts, Sen. Collins introduced a measure to investigate Planned Parenthood’s practices. At the time, she said:

I was sickened when I viewed the recently released videos featuring Planned Parenthood physicians… the callousness with which Planned Parenthood employees discuss the sale of fetal tissue is appalling. It deserves our attention. The videos also raise valid questions about the ethics and legality of Planned Parenthood’s practices in some of it’s clinics…. As a result I believe a full investigation is warranted to determine whether or not Planned Parenthood broke the law prohibiting the sale of fetal tissue….

But despite the Maine senator’s apparent outrage, Collins gave a clear signal just prior to the recent Senate vote on the ObamaCare repeal that she was hesitant to defund Planned Parenthood for one year. She told ABC News, “I think it’s not fair and it is a mistake to defund Planned Parenthood. It’s one of many issues.”

After her vote against the “Skinny Repeal,” Sen. Collins pointed to Planned Parenthood as an alleged health care organization:

The issue of family planning services, cancer screenings, and women care probably does resonate with us more than it does with our male colleagues, and to me it was so unfair to single out one Medicaid provider and say to women in particular, “You can’t choose which health care provider you want to go to.”

The problem is that Planned Parenthood only masquerades as a health care provider, and the facts show that Planned Parenthood is not the best choice for Maine citizens.

GOP Senators Collins and Murkowski are just two in a long line of politicians that Planned Parenthood has paraded out to repeat its deceptive talking points on services it either does not provide or on services that have been declining for years, as Live Action has exposed in the video below:

While Planned Parenthood is focused on abortion, federal health centers, (which outnumber Planned Parenthood by the thousands nationally) offer a wider range of services.

Facilities:

Planned Parenthood operates four facilities in Maine, including one of the largest abortion facilities in the state.

In contrast, according to the Rural Health Info Hub, there are 40 Rural Health Clinics and 18 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) providing services at 123 sites in Maine. These centers offer a wide range of health care services for men, women and children.

Patients:

According to statistics published on Planned Parenthood’s website, the organization saw a total of 8,745 clients in Maine, a decrease of over 35 percent since 2006, when Planned Parenthood recorded 13,548 clients.

In contrast, the latest published data on the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) website, federal health centers served 187,269 patients in 2015. This was an increase of 13 percent from 2008, when Maine health centers served 165,458 patients.

Abortions:

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) operates facilities in Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Statistics published by the Guttmacher Institute reveal that between 2011 and 2014, the abortion rate decreased in two of the three states in which PPNNE operates facilities:

  • 4 percent decline in Maine
  • 3 percent increase in Vermont
  • 19 percent decline in New Hampshire

PPNNE Services 2011 and 2015

Yet, despite an abortion decline in Maine and New Hampshire, state reports from PPNNE show that abortion, as a percentage of services, is increasing. According to documents on file with PPNNE, abortions in those three states increased from 2 percent of PPNNE’s services in 2011to 6 percent of services in 2015.

Breast Exams and Pap Tests:

In 2015, PPPNE performed a total of 4,250 Pap tests in all three states. This is a decline of nearly 81 percentfrom 2006, when PPPNE reported 22,127 Pap tests in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont combined.

Breast exams have also decreased at PPNNE, dropping 21 percent from 8,000 in 2013 to 6,311 in 2015. A closer look at Planned Parenthood’s website reveals that in Maine, Planned Parenthood provided 2,531 total cancer screenings.

In contrast, statistics published on the HRSA website for 2015 (the latest published numbers) reveal that 59.4 percent of the almost 190,000 patients who visited federal health centers in Maine received cervical cancer screenings alone.

Contraception:

An analysis conducted by Planned Parenthood’s former “special affiliate,” the Guttmacher Institute, which reviewed Maine’s Planned Parenthood centers (PP), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and Title X facilities for 2015, revealed:

  • 3 out of 16 counties providing publicly funded contraception care in Maine had at least one Planned Parenthood center.
  • All 16 counties had at least one FQHC site providing contraception services.
  • There were no Planned Parenthood centers located in 13 of the 16 counties.
  • Almost 4 percent (4 out of 106) of publicly funded family planning centers were Planned Parenthood centers.
  • Planned Parenthood served 28 percent of contraception clients while FQHC sites served slightly less, at 27 percent.

FQHC vs. Planned Parenthood in Maine Contraception Care

State and federal taxpayers have been forced to send $3,381,528 to PPNNE despite the organization’s decrease in services. This number has remained fairly consistent for the past several years. As of 2015, these tax dollars now make up 14 percent of the affiliate’s annual budget.

Audited financial reports published by PPNNE reveal that despite the millions of tax dollars it receives every year, PPNNE’s net assets totaled $12,604,134 in 2015 and $13,471,397 in 2016, proving that it does not need government dollars.

Nationally, an analysis by Live Action News proves that FQHCs are far more worthy of tax money than Planned Parenthood. And they can handle Planned Parenthood’s patients if and when the abortion corporation is defunded.

Data from Planned Parenthood’s annual reports reveal that nationally, services such as contraception, prenatal care, breast exams, and pregnancy tests have decreased. In fact, the reports show that Planned Parenthood has lost over half a million (661,000) patients in the past ten years.

What has increased at Planned Parenthood nationally? Abortion — rising nearly 24 percent from 264,943 in 2005 to 328,348 in 2015. This means that today, Planned Parenthood garners nearly 35 percent of the abortion market share in the country, ending the lives of 900 precious preborn children every day.

Despite the decreases in services and increases in abortions, in the past ten years, taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood has nearly doubled from $305.3 million in 2005 to $554.6 million in 2015.

This cash flow enabled Planned Parenthood to end its year with an excess of $77.5 million in 2015, an increase of nearly 39 percent from 2005 when they netted $55.8 million.

Planned Parenthood has been netting a profit for many years, with yearly surpluses ranging from $12.2 million in 2001 to a high of $155.5 million in 2010).

You do the math, because it is obvious that Senator Collins hasn’t.

Federally Qualified Health Centers outnumber Planned Parenthood in West Virginia 28:1

Posted in FQHC, Planned Parenthood and FQHC, Planned Parenthood state stats with tags , , , , , , , on August 9, 2017 by saynsumthn

Planned Parenthood operates just one facility in the state of West Virginia while Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) operate in many more locations and offer a wider range of services. In the debate over funding the nation’s top abortion provider, it is important to be aware that several states have just one Planned Parenthood facility. And while Planned Parenthood operates one center in West Virginia, in contrast, there are 28 Federally Qualified Health Centers providing services at 270 sites in the state, according to the Rural Health Info website.

In addition to having just one location, news reports indicate that the Vienna Planned Parenthood center in West Virginia, which refers for abortions, saw a minuscule number of patients compared to those seen by publicly funded health centers in the state.

While Planned Parenthood in WV saw approximately 960 patients in 2015, data published by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) shows that in the same year, publicly funded health centers in the state saw almost 400,000 (399,213) patients.

Planned Parenthood, which masquerades as a health care provider, has been losing patients nationally as well.

Defund Planned Parenthood

In 2011, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards boasted that the organization served three million patients. By 2015, those numbers had dropped by more than 600,000 to 2.4 million. Nationally, the organization which now receives over $554 million in annual government revenue has been decreasing its services – all except abortion.

In FY 2014-2015, Planned Parenthood performed 323,999 abortions, accounting for 34.9 percent of the overall abortion market share in the United States. (This data is based on the latest abortion numbers published by Guttmacher.)

By FY 2015-2016, Planned Parenthood’s abortions rose to 328,348.

This was not the case for many other health services such as cancer screenings like Pap tests and manual breast exams, which decreased nationally at the abortion corporation. In addition, Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report reveals that the organization’s contraception services are at their lowest in years (2,808,815), decreasing nationally nearly 30 percent since 2009, according to that year’s Annual Affiliate Service Census Report (4,009,549).

In West Virginia, a look at contraception care revealed that Planned Parenthood served just one percent of all contraception clients that visited publicly funded family planning centers in West Virginia.

And no, those statistics did not originate from the pro-life community. The data was put together by Guttmacher, Planned Parenthood’s former special affiliate, in response to a request from pro-abortion Senator Patty Murray.

The data, which looked at Planned Parenthood centers (PP), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), as well as Title X facilities for 2015 revealed that in West Virginia:

  • 55 counties offered publicly funded contraception care
  • One county had at least one Planned Parenthood facility
  • 48 counties had at least one FQHC site
  • There were no Planned Parenthood centers located in 54 counties
  • Just 1 out of 202 of publicly funded family planning centers in the state was a Planned Parenthood center
  • Planned Parenthood shows they operate just one facility in the state

Nationally, the Guttmacher data revealed some startling facts as well (ref: table 3/ page 7):

  • FQHCs operated 9,636 services sites in the U.S.
  • 5,829 FQHCs (60 percent) offered contraceptive care to at least 10 female clients
  • 361 counties out of 3,142 counties had both a Planned Parenthood and a FQHC site
  • 580 counties had neither
  • Out of the 2,201 counties that remained, there were 54 counties that did not have a FQHC site and 2,147 which did not have a Planned Parenthood (table 3/ page 7)
  • In at least 23 states, FQHC sites served more contraception clients than Planned Parenthood in at least one or more counties
  • In four states (Hawaii, Kentucky, Mississippi and Rhode Island), FQHC sites served more contraception clients than Planned Parenthood in every county where Planned Parenthood had a facility
  • In two states (Alaska and Georgia) that ratio dropped to 80 percent, 66 percent in one state (Arizona) and 50 percent in Massachusetts, Nebraska and South Carolina
  • In all, Planned Parenthood centers were located in just 415 U.S. counties, while 1,719 counties had a FQHC site
  • FQHC sites outnumbered Planned Parenthood in counties that provided contraception care in every state except Connecticut, Minnesota and the District of Columbia (table 1/ page 1).

The Planned Parenthood center in West Virginia is operated by Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic, headquartered in South Carolina. This Planned Parenthood affiliate is not known for its stellar oversight.

As Live Action News has previously reported, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Bureau of Health Facilities Licensing and Bureau of Land and Waste Management detailed gross violations against the affiliate in September of 2015, which included the following violations against their South Carolina center:

The facility did not have documentation on training in infection control for two staff members.
Planned Parenthood did not adhere to and follow provisions for tissue examination and disposal and did not have a written policy and procedure regarding registration of fetal death or death certificates.
Planned Parenthood’s emergency drug cart did not have a listing of contents on the cart.
Expired medications were stored in the patient care areas and pharmacy.
Products of conception resulting from abortion procedures were not managed and properly disposed of by incineration according to regulations.
Several abortion records involving minors did not include the name of a parent.
Sterile gloves were stored and mixed with non-sterile supplies including non-sterile examination gloves.
Waste meeting the definition of “infectious waste” was not managed or properly disposed of by incineration.

The fact is that Planned Parenthood is not deserving of the dollars they receive from taxpayers. As the Senate gears up to debate continued funding of Planned Parenthood, it is important that senators in West Virginia understand that Planned Parenthood is not the so-called health care organization it portrays itself to be.

Every single day that the Senate delays in defunding Planned Parenthood, the organization aborts almost 900 preborn children and continues to receive $1.5 million from American taxpayers.
