Abortionist Douglas Karpen who runs the Aaron Woman’s Clinic in Houston Texas is being sued by a former patient for a botched abortion. The patient claims she suffered a torn uterus, bleeding and extensive pain. The law suit claims medical negligence on the part of Karpen.

According to reports, the abortion was performed when the patient was 22 weeks pregnant. The suit claims “permanent injuries” were caused by abortionist Karpen and the patient “continues to suffer as a result of medical negligence.”

The legal document says her injuries were discovered by another doctor who also found internal bleeding.

Mark Crutcher, president of Life Dynamics responded to the news, “It’s not like this is anything new. I mean this is the same guy that killed a fifteen-year-old girl named Denise Montoya while doing a “safe and legal” abortion on her. The fact is, only the washouts, losers and moral degenerates of medicine end up working at abortion clinics and Karpen is no different.”

On May 3, 2013, Crutcher recorded an interview with three of Karpen’s former employees who claimed that babies were born alive and killed following abortions by Douglas Karpen.

In that video, former employees also described the way that Karpen treated patients saying that if he injures a woman he never tells her.

Never telling the woman hey I ripped your cervix you need to get that looked at,” one of the former workers stated.

In addition former staff members say that Karpen would, “leave a patient on the table, 45 minutes with her legs open and a speculum inside her cervix as he went across to his office and had his sandwich.”

Crutcher points out that in addition to the former employees, Life Dynamics also conducted an interview with a former abortion patient, saying that it is “it’s almost incomprehensible what they did to her.”

Crutcher continues, “it’s almost mind-boggling to think that there are people in this world who argue that these abortion clinics are safe and legal for women to go to, and then you hear from the women who actually went to one and it’s incredible that these people get away with this lie.”

Saynsumthn notes that there is a malpractice case filed March 10, 2014 with the Harris County District Court.

Operation Rescue has obtained a copy of that complaint available to read here.

According to Operation Rescue, alleges that allege Karpen rushed through the late-term procedure, lacerating Mendoza’s uterus and creating a large T-shaped rupture that left her uterus open to the abdominal cavity.

It was among the worst injuries to the uterus that the Ob/Gyn treating Mendoza at the West Houston Medical Center “had ever seen or read about.”

Ms. Mendoza’s ordeal began on February 7, 2013, when she reported to Karpen’s Aaron Women’s Clinic in Houston where she was found to be 22 weeks pregnant at that time. She was told by the staff that such late-term abortion procedures were “low-risk,” post-abortion hemorrhage was less than after childbirth, and that it was “highly unlikely any uncomplicated or mid trimester abortion will cause a problem with infertility or future pregnancies.”

On February 14, Mendoza kept her abortion appointment at Karpen’s second abortion location, the Texas Ambulatory Surgical Center, also in Houston, where over a dozen other women were waiting for abortions.

According to the complaint:

The Plaintiff watched as each young woman was called to go to the back. Finally, the Plaintiff was the only young woman left in the waiting area, and she remained there, alone, for some time after the last young woman had left, and the Plaintiff got the feeling she had been forgotten. Finally, a nurse came to the waiting area and appeared to be surprised the Plaintiff was still there. From that moment, everything thereafter appeared to be rushed.

During the now 23-week abortion, Karpen’s alleged negligence was responsible for the grossly ruptured uterus, partial laceration of the broad uterine ligament, and heavy internal bleeding. It appears Karpen never tried to repair the rupture and sent Mendoza home under the impression that the surgery had been uneventful.

The next day, experiencing intense pain, Mendoza made her way to the West Houston Medical Center emergency room where a CT Scan revealed her ruptured uterus and massive internal bleeding. Mendoza was rushed into emergency surgery. Her injuries were so severe that she can never have another child since doctors now believe she would “be in extreme danger” if she were ever to become pregnant again. She was only 20 years old at the time of her abortion.

Had Ms. Mendoza delayed seeking emergency care, hospital staff believe she would have died from her injuries.

Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue responds:

“Ms. Mendez’s law suit alleges that Karpen seriously injured her during a late-term abortion and then never told her she was injured. This is exactly the same allegation made to us by three former Karpen employees, who also provided us with photographic evidence that Karpen was murdering babies born alive in a similar way that Kermit Gosnell did.”

“Now that Ms. Mendoza’s lawsuit has corroborated this part of our informant’s allegations, we believe their other allegations now have more credibility. We are calling on authorities such as the Texas Medical Board to reopen investigations into Karpen’s practices and take emergency action to prevent him from inflicting harm on anyone else.”

“On the same day that the Texas Medical Board penned the ‘cover-up’ letter telling us that Karpen did nothing wrong, Ms. Mendoza was in the hospital getting emergency surgery in order to save her life from horrifying injuries she says Karpen inflicted upon her,” said Newman. “We just have to wonder how many more women will suffer or even die before the TMB and other officials stop protecting this dangerous man.”

Past cases against Karpen have also been filed.

Harris County Civil Court March 2014

In 2013, the Houston Chronicle detailed some of the cases against Karpen:

In 1989, the parents of Denise Montoya sued Karpen after their 15-year-old daughter got an abortion from Karpen and died. She had been 251/2 weeks pregnant, the parents’ lawsuit said, but they had been assured the pregnancy could be terminated safely. Montoya began to bleed heavily after the procedure and was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, where she later died.

Karpen Denise Montoya Lawsuit

In 1991, Peggy Cormier sued Karpen on behalf of her minor daughter, who went to Karpen for a late-term abortion and then changed her mind after beginning the process of termination. The lawsuit alleges that Karpen became hostile and refused to attempt to reverse the procedure or refer her to another doctor. Cormier’s daughter eventually went to St. Joseph Hospital and delivered a baby weighing 1 pound, 13 ounces, who died six months later.

Quinnetta Dugas sued Karpen in 1995, alleging that he had perforated her cervix during a late-term abortion. Dugas also alleged that she believed she was later in her pregnancy than the 24 weeks Karpen purportedly had told her. Dugas was bleeding heavily after the abortion and was taken to LBJ Hospital, where she underwent an emergency hysterectomy, according to the lawsuit.

A lawsuit brought by Cherise Mosley and her father brought Karpen to the public’s eye when he was sued for performing an abortion on a minor who used a fake ID to establish that she was 18, a legal requirement at the time. Mosley contended the ID card, obtained from a grocery store, obviously was not legitimate. A jury found Karpen only 10 percent negligent and Mosley received no money.

The Chronicle concluded, “Unlike that case, the disposition of all the lawsuits against Karpen is not always clear from available court records. Some obviously were settled, and some apparently were found in Karpen’s favor.”

Texas Legislators Call for Criminal Investigation of Houston Abortionist

“If the abortion lobby thinks this issue is going away,
they are literally whistling past the graveyard.”
Mark Crutcher, President, Life Dynamics

Today, Life Dynamics Inc. a national pro-life organization located in Denton, Texas, is commending Texas District 61, State Representative Phil King for calling for a full investigation of late term abortion doctor Douglas Karpen.

On May 3, 2013, Life Dynamics recorded an interview with three of Karpen’s former employees in which they admitted to participating in numerous instances in which babies were being born alive and killed during abortion procedures at Karpen’s Houston abortion clinic.

A portion of that interview can be viewed here:

After viewing the video, Rep. King sent a request to Life Dynamics for the unedited raw footage of the interview, which Life Dynamics provided on DVD.

Rep. King informed Life Dynamics that his office then mailed that DVD to Lt. Richard Kleczynski with the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department. He also sent a letter to Ms. Mari Robinson, executive director of the Texas Medical Board, and David L. Lakey MD., Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, requesting a full investigation. These letters were co-signed by 20 Texas lawmakers (listed below).

“We strongly support a full investigation into the allegations of Dr. Karpen. As a state, we must ensure that the health and safety of women and children are being protected by laws and regulations in place,” King wrote to the agencies.

Mark Crutcher, President of Life Dynamics, reacted to the King letter saying, “If the abortion lobby thinks this issue is going away, they are literally whistling past the graveyard.”

Crutcher continues, “One thing that was often overlooked about the conviction and life sentence recently given to abortionist Kermit Gosnell, is that eight of his employees also received long prison sentences for their roles in what he was doing. Today, the abortion lobby is in “damage control mode” and telling anyone who will listen that Gosnell is an aberration and that every other abortionist in America is Mr. Clean. But the people who actually work in these places know better, and they are beginning to fear that they could be the next ones dragged into a courtroom wearing handcuffs and leg irons.”

Partial transcript from the interview:

CLIP 1

Clinic Worker: “ Most of the time we would see him where the fetus would come completely out and of course the fetus would still be alive because it was still moving, of course, you could see the stomach breathing and um that’s when he would do his um, he would snip the spine, as they were saying this doctor did and of course the soft spot was one of the spots that he um would take one of the forceps, or what is it called? The dilators and stick it down the soft spot of the fetuses head.”
Interviewer: “You saw this happen?”
Clinic worker: “Oh yes. I think every morning I saw on several occasions. If we had um, if we had 20 something patients, of course maybe 10 or 12, or 13 or 15 would be large procedures – out of those large procedures I’m pretty sure I was seeing 3 to 4 fetus that were completely delivered in some way or another.”

Interviewer: “You would see the baby alive”
Clinic Worker: “Yes, sir.”
Interviewer: “and him kill that baby outside the womb?”
Clinic worker: “Yes, sir”
Interviewer: “And this would be done by jamming some kind of instrument into the soft spot?”
Clinic worker: “Either that or actually twisting the head off the neck, kind of with his own bare hands?”
Interviewer: “And you saw that happen?”
Clinic worker: “Yes, sir”
Clinic Worker: “Sometimes he would go through the stomach as well”
Interviewer: “Sometimes he would do what?”
Clinic Worker: “He would like, force it through the stomach.”
Clinic Worker: “The, the instrument…”
Clinic Worker: “and he’d twist it”
Interviewer: “And you saw that?”
Clinic Worker: “anything that he could get to…like she said..”
Clinic Worker: “I normally saw either the snipping of the spine or the introduction of the instrument in the soft spot of the fetus normally or twisting of the neck”
Clinic Worker: “Remember he would like take his finger”
Clinic Worker: “Or his finger, he’d take his finger”
Clinic Worker: “uh, through the throat”
Clinic Worker: “Yeah”
