Pro-lifers react to GOP candidate attacks on Cruz / Rubio over abortion for rape

Rubio Cruz abortion rape

Two of the top presidential contenders, Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have come under criticism from Republican leaders because they ardently oppose abortions in cases of rape. While Rubio and Cruz oppose abortion exceptions for cases of rape, Trump supports them. Now, a national pro-life organization with hundreds of thousands of members is urging the rest of the GOP presidential field not to follow suit.

In an open letter addressed to Governors Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Jim Gilmore, John Kasich, along with Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson, the Susan B. Anthony list urge what they called, “a swift and decisive end to the attacks other candidates and their surrogates are making concerning the courageous pro-life positions of Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.” The letter is in response to a litany of statements which mirror more of a Planned Parenthood position on abortion than a pro-life one from GOP presidential candidates who claim they are pro-life.

In an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie implied that Rubio’s position against an abortion rape exception would hurt him in New Hampshire.

Chris Christie MSNBC Rubio abortion

“That’s the kind of position that New Hampshire voters would be really concerned about. I’m pro-life, but I believe that rape, incest and life of the mother, as Ronald Reagan did, should be exceptions to that rule.”

“I will tell you one thing Marco Rubio has done: He has made it very clear that on the issue of pro-life, Marco Rubio is not for an exception for rape, incest, or life of the mother.”

“Now… you know I think that’s the kind of position that I think New Hampshire voters would be concerned about.”

Rubio on abortion rape

In his defense, Rubio recently told CNN that he believes that all human life, even those conceived in rape, must be protected. “I personally believe that you do not correct one tragedy with a second tragedy.”

Live Action president, Lila Rose, has also referred to abortions for rape as a second act of violence, telling Sean Hannity in a recent Fox News interview that, “I think we can do better for women who are victims of sexual abuse and trauma to say that abortion is somehow a pathway to healing. Abortion is not a pathway to healing; it’s another violent act.”

Juda Myers, founder of the pro-life group, Choices4Life which advocates for the rape conceived, said that politicians who claim to be pro-life while allowing exceptions to abort children because their fathers were the criminals are the ones who are not really pro-life. Myers knows how these kind of statements affect the rape conceived after discovering that her birth mother was gang raped but lovingly chose to place her for adoption.

“Society has put in our minds what women would and should feel about babies conceived in rape. But through my research I’ve found that women pregnant by rape do not think the way the general public thinks. Even those who previously thought they would abort find themselves feeling differently about the innocent baby inside them.

Myers said that politicians who support these kind of exceptions are really pro-choice, “100% pro-life is 100%. There is no exception. Choice for death in pregnancy is still pro choice for death,” she points out.

Lindsey Graham abortion Cruz

But, Christie is not the only GOP contender lashing out against a true pro-life position. In late fall, Live Action News reported that 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush also criticized Rubio’s opposition to abortion for rape. And now, former Republican establishment presidential candidate, Lindsey Graham, who supports Jeb Bush for president, has piled on, chiding Senator Cruz’s ardent pro-life position, telling Mike Barnicle on MSNBC:

“If a woman is raped in Ted Cruz’s world, she’s going to have to carry the baby of the rapist. I’m pro-life, but I won’t go there. I think that’s hard to sell with young women.”

Later adding that Senator Rubio does not believe in exceptions for rape either:

I may be wrong, and I hope I’m wrong, but I think it’s going to be very hard to grow the party among women if you’re gonna tell young women, ‘If you get raped, you’re gotta carry the child of the rapist.’ Most pro-life people don’t go there.

The idea that pro-life people would not defend all preborn children in the womb is a complete misunderstanding or the true pro-life position. Responding to these statements, African American rape victim and pro-life advocate Elaine Riddick told Live Action News that children of rape should be protected not destroyed. Riddick was impregnated after being raped as a teen and said that she was glad to have her son. “You just have no idea how wonderful that child has made my life,” she said.

Adding, “In the Black community at that time there was no such thing as abortion. My life would not be what it is without my son. I knew he was my child. He shaped my whole being from then to now. My son is a gift regardless of how he was conceived. He is the most beautiful thing I can see. The most positive person.”

Riddick, who is very outspoken on Planned Parenthood’s eugenic agenda suggested that politicians who support abortion for reasons of rape should not be trusted.

“When I hear a politician say everyone deserved to live except a child conceived in rape I am shocked. Those are the ones you need to watch. I would disqualify them for the simple reason that they have no idea what a woman has to go through- no sense of worth or conscience and God’s worth. God said every life, every person is made in His image. He intended for these children to be born.”

“A politician that says the rape conceived preborn child should be aborted or demolished- they are not religious people. I don’t think they should have the right to sit and dictate how the world should live. They do not have a sense of humanity. They should not be in the political arena…No one should be in office that doesn’t understand that every person that God intended to be on this earth -if He implanted the seed in a woman’s body than it was that child’s time to be here.”

Marjorie Dannenfelser

Marjorie Dannenfelser

In her open letter, Marjorie Dannenfelser President Susan B. Anthony List called the attacks “Planed Parenthood talking points” and she is correct. Not only does Planned Parenthood support abortion on demand at any time in the pregnancy and for any reason, but, they are notorious for using abortion to cover child rape. So, instead of GOP presidential contenders attacking the pro-life positions of Senators Rubio and Cruz they could be exposing the truth about Planned Parenthood’s dismal record on rape.

“Let me be clear: An attack on this aspect of these candidates’ pro-life positions is an attack on the pro-life movement as a whole,” she wrote.

“55 million babies have been reported to have been destroyed since Roe v Wade. The exception for rape was implemented for legal abortion yet only 1% of these 55 million are rape/incest abortions. The exception has opened the door so that all abortions can be legal. If rape/incest abortions were made illegal then ALL legal abortions would cease,” Myers said.

Unbearable pro-aborts attack Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin Attacked by “Mama Grizzlies” from EMILY’S List

Pro-abortion rights group EMILY’S List is today launching a campaign suggesting that America’s so-called “Mama Grizzlies” – a phrase coined by Sarah Palin to describe her supporters – don’t all come from Palin’s side of the political spectrum.

“Throughout this cycle, Sarah Palin has predicted a rising tide of mothers and women voters who will support her so-called ‘Mama Grizzly’ candidates,” EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said in a release. “Palin has made it her mission to defeat candidates who have worked hard to champion the rights of women and families across the country and replace them with conservative candidates who want to repeal health care, stand with big business, and eliminate a woman’s right to choose. So today, EMILY’s List is calling on women – and men! – to let their voices be heard and to reject Palin’s reactionary candidates and backward-looking agenda.”
The group, which focuses on getting candidates who support abortion rights elected, has put out a web video (watch it above) and is pushing a campaign called “Sarah Doesn’t Speak for Me” meant to appeal to Democrats, independents and “moderate Republicans who have no home.”

The video shows women dressed in bear costumes talking about how their “cubs” are threatened by the agenda of Palin and the candidates she supports, and discuss the possibility of losing health care coverage, abortion rights and unemployment benefits.

Anti-abortion rights group the Susan B. Anthony List, which recently concluded a 23-city bus tour designed to spotlight its support for candidates who oppose abortion rights, quickly hit back with a statement suggesting “EMILY’s List is running scared.”

“EMILY’s List is busy perpetuating what it purports to abhor: using women candidates with whom they disagree as punching bags,” said Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “On the eve of the 90th anniversary of women’s suffrage, the SBA List calls upon EMILY’s List to come to grips with reality.”

Palin’s backing has helped numerous Republicans emerge from crowded primary fields and win their party’s support, among them South Carolina gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley.

The “Sarah Doesn’t Speak for Me” website “will feature a new multi-media interactive website, a page for users to share personal stories, and information about the radical agenda of Palin’s candidates and where they stand on critical issues,” says EMILY’s List. “It includes branded merchandise and an aggressive online presence that will extend our reach to a broad and diverse range of audiences and, through a targeted advertising campaign, get more than six million impressions.”

EMILY’S List, which says it raised more than $43 million to support candidates in the 2007-2008 campaign cycle, also likely hopes the site will drive fundraising.
Opinions about abortion rights have remained steady for the past decade.

In a CBS News poll conducted last November, 34 percent felt abortion should be generally available to those who want it, 40 percent felt it should be available but under stricter limits than it is now, and 23 percent felt it should not be permitted at all.

Susan B Anthony List Responds:

Today, the Susan B. Anthony List criticized a new campaign by the pro-abortion group, EMILY’s List, called “Sarah Palin Doesn’t Speak for Me.” EMILY’s List called pro-life female candidates “backwards-looking” and criticized Gov. Palin’s support of authentic women running for office.

“EMILY’s List is running scared — and it shows,” said Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Clearly, in this ‘Year of the Pro-Life Woman,’ which Sarah Palin helped make possible, women have found their political voices. Pro-life ‘Mama Grizzlies’ represent the majority of women across the country.”

The Susan B. Anthony List’s latest bus tour, which just returned from 23 cities throughout Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania, confirms that women are rejecting the abortion-centered women’s movement model. A Rasmussen poll this week shows that 53 percent of women think that “abortions are too easy to get.” The Susan B. Anthony List’s candidates represent this majority of women.

“We are looking for women leaders who affirm the best in women — who seek to include rather than exclude the rest of humanity as we find our fulfillment,” said Dannenfelser. “EMILY’s List is busy perpetuating what it purports to abhor: using women candidates with whom they disagree as punching bags. On the eve of the 90th anniversary of women’s suffrage, the SBA List calls upon EMILY’s List to come to grips with reality. Our academic panel next week, August 26th at the Yale Club on that anniversary will explore the roots of why Susan B. Anthony has influenced our views and why EMILY’s List does not.”

Since the 1992 so-called “Year of the Woman,” the Susan B. Anthony List has elected 75 pro-life women to the U.S. House of Representatives, seven to the U.S. Senate and seven more to other statewide offices. At its breakfast event in May, Sarah Palin rallied the pro-life “Mama Grizzly” female candidates.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 280,000 Americans, residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Palin Responds:

In a post on Facebook lauding the 90th anniversary of women’s suffrage – and offering a new round of endorsements of Republican candidates – Palin complains that “I’ve recently come under attack for speaking up for sisters who seek to serve in public office.”

“The sad part is that the attack comes from other sisters who happen to be on the other side of an issue that has been of great importance to American women from the time of our feminist foremothers, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, down to today. I’m speaking of the issue of life,” she writes.

Palin then offers “advice” to “our sisters who like to throw stones at those of us who respectfully disagree with them on this issue.” She writes that such women “refuse to even countenance the fact that some of us can call ourselves feminists and disagree with those who claim the mantle of ‘real feminists.'”

“First, ladies, it’s hard to take a critic seriously when they lecture you wearing a bear suit,” she continues. “So, it’s difficult for me to drum up much outrage at this latest ad. But, really, lying about a sister while wearing an Ewok outfit is no way to honor our foremothers on the eve of the 90th anniversary of their victory.”

The former Alaska governor then twists the knife.

“But, that aside, I’d love to know where you got those get-ups,” she writes. “Halloween is just around the corner, and Piper and Trig would look adorable as little grizzly bears.”

In a separate post on Twitter, Palin referred to those who “hijacked” the term feminist as “A cackle of rads who want 2 crucify other women w/whom they disagree on a singular issue; it’s ironic (& pass?).”

Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund Pledges to Drive Out Pro-life Betrayers in November

WASHINGTON, March 21 /Christian Newswire/ — In response to Rep. Bart Stupak’s announcement that he and other self-labeled “pro-life” Democrats will vote in favor of Healthcare reform legislation with the addition of an Executive Order from the White House to address concerns about abortion funding, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

“This Wednesday night is our third annual Campaign for Life Gala, where we were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform-we will no longer be doing so. By accepting this deal from the most pro-abortion President in American history, Stupak has not only failed to stand strong for unborn children, but also for his constituents and pro-life voters across the country.

“Let me be clear: any representative, including Rep. Stupak, who votes for this healthcare bill can no longer call themselves ‘pro-life.’ The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund will not endorse, or support in any capacity, any Member of Congress who votes for this bill in any future election. Now through Election Day 2010, these representatives will learn that votes have consequences. The SBA List Candidate Fund will work tirelessly to help defeat Members who support this legislation and make sure their constituents know exactly how they voted. We will actively seek out true pro-life candidates to oppose Members who vote ‘yes’ on this bill, whether it be in general or primary elections. For these Members, it will be a quick downhill slide to defeat in November.

“The executive order on abortion funding does absolutely nothing to fix the problems presented by the health care reform bill that the House will vote on this evening. The very idea should offend all pro-life Members of Congress. An executive order can be rescinded at any time at the President’s whim, and the courts could and have a history of trumping executive orders. Most importantly, pro-abortion Representatives have admitted the executive order is meaningless.”

Last night, Rep. DeGette told The Huffington Post, “If there was an executive order saying they weren’t going to use federal funds in the bill to pay for abortions that would be fine with me.”

Today, Rep. Wasserman Schultz admitted to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly that “an executive order cannot change the law.”

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops pointed out today that “only a change in the law enacted by Congress, not an executive order, can begin to address this very serious problem in the legislation.”

The Susan B. Anthony List has been leading the fight against abortion funding in health care reform for over a year, spending nearly $2 million on a grassroots campaign of targeted television and radio ads, 1.3 million automated calls, 70,000 patch-through constituent calls, 1.2 million letters and petitions to Congress, two media and grassroots tours in pro-life Democratic districts, television ads in six districts and comprehensive polling in 20 pro-life Democratic districts.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 280,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Tim Tebow comments about his pro-life Super Bowl ad

Tim Tebow spoke out publically in support of the planned Super Bowl ad that will feature the former Florida quarterback and his mom speaking on the benefits of being pro-life.

Pam Tebow was advised to have an abortion before giving birth to Tim in the Philippines in 1987. She details her decision in the ad.

“I mean, some people won’t agree with it, you know, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe,” Tim Tebow said from Mobile, Ala., where he is preparing for the Senior Bowl. “I’m just standing for something and, you know, I’ve always been very convicted of it one. That’s the reason why I’m here because my mom is a very courageous woman.”

Here is video of Tebow’s comments:

The ad, which is being run by Focus on the Family, has drawn criticism from pro-choice organizations that don’t believe the ad is appropriate CBS to air during the Super Bowl.

CBS approved the script of the ad, according to a network spokesman, and does not appear to be changing its decision due to the protest. It issued this statement: “Our standards and practices process continues to adhere to a policy that ensures all ads on all sides of an issue are appropriate for air.”

Hey if the pro-aborts want to see “BOTH SIDES” of the issue – how about showing them this: (here)

WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 /Christian Newswire/ — Today Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser responded to the objections from the National Organization for Women (NOW) to Focus on the Family’s Super Bowl Pro-Life Tim Tebow advertisement. She offered the following statement:

NOW and company are losing their grip as their pro-abortion position sinks in public opinion. I had no idea NOW leaders were such experts on sports. Missed that part of their mission.

What is real here is their desperation to keep full information from women. Shouldn’t the “pro-choice” position respect Pam Tebow’s decision to choose Life? What is the worst case scenario in allowing the ad to air? Women are exposed to an example of sacrifice for the sake of an unborn child. NOW needs to explain where the harm and threat to women and children is here.

Today, the AP released a story detailing NOW’s efforts to call on CBS to drop the Tebow Super Bowl ad. The ad, produced by Focus on the Family, tells the story of Pam Tebow’s decision to continue with her pregnancy against doctor advice and give birth to the college football star, Tim Tebow.

Earlier this year, NOW President Terry O’Neill, confessed to the National Journal that the organization is struggling. “It seems to me we are stalled out…”.

The National Journal article, contrasted the grassroots success of the Susan B. Anthony List with the apparent decline of NOW’s grassroots effectiveness.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 280,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
