NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is pleased to announce that Rachel Berkson has been named Executive Director.

“Rachel is the future of our on-going fight for reproductive health privacy and freedom,” said Shakti Hawkins, Board President of the NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Foundation. “Rachel represents the generation of pro-choice women and men who have stepped forward to carry the banner for women’s reproductive health care.”

Berkson brings a strong background in grassroots political organizing for progressive issue-based politics in the Pacific Northwest. She most recently served as Associate Director of Washington Community Action Network (CAN!), the state’s largest grassroots community organization, where she led campaigns to provide access to affordable health care, stop foreclosures and protect crucial public services in communities across Washington State.

Berkson bridges the gap between the generations who fought for and have defended reproductive choice, and the generations who have never experienced a world without Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. The daughter of an abortion provider, Berkson has seen the very human impact reproductive health restrictions have on a woman and her family.

Rachel was the Executive Director of the SEIU Washington State Council where her primary focus was coordinating the union’s joint political and legislative programs. From 2000 – 2006 Rachel was a lead organizer with the Working Families Party, a labor and community-based grassroots political party in New York State.
