After 2 decades Planned Parenthood is closing its Yuma, Arizona center, located at 1455 W. 16th St. Instead they are hiring Health Coordinators.
Planned Parenthood has operated a health center in Yuma for two decades, providing annual gynecological exams and preventive birth control, treating sexually transmitted infections and, at one time, early stage abortions which were eliminated by the Arizona Legislature in 2012.
“We looked at health care data in Yuma County and found, for example, the teen birth rate in the three western counties in Arizona – Mohave, La Paz and Yuma – is 29 percent higher than the rest of the state,” president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Arizona Bryan Howard said.
“We asked ourselves if we have great health care institutions like Sunset (Community Health Center), Regional Center for Border Health and (Yuma Regional Medical Center) and we’re still seeing challenges in health outcomes, what’s not getting done?
“It had to do with knowledge and values and a community dialogue about prevention. That’s something we had promoted, something that needs to be out in the community. We can’t promote it being inside a building,” Howard added.
The organization will discontinue services at the health center but will continue to have a presence in the community through the regional health coordinator.
“We are moving from health care services sequestered inside a building to a full-time person who is out in the community,” explained president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Arizona Bryan Howard, “We had a ‘build it and they will come’ orientation. The idea was we can’t do anything for you unless you come to us. We can do more by going out to the people.”
This full-time staff person will supposedly provide information and referrals to difficult-to-access sexual health care, foster community partnerships, engage volunteers and activists, give presentations and promote inclusion of sexual education in local school districts. The coordinator will be hired from the community and will work exclusively in the county.
My guess is they will push ObamaCare and Birth Control!

Reina Schiffrin, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP), said the van is meant to be noticed and draw in passersby. She noted that so many people need the services offered by Planned Parenthood but they either don’t know they’re available or are hesitant to walk into a health center.
“We need to be able to go out into the community – to the places where people socialize and hang out – and reach those who need us the most,” Schiffrin said. “With SmartWheels, we’re able to bring services directly to them in a place where they already feel comfortable. Not only do they get the information they need immediately, but many go one step further and make an appointment at one of our centers.”
PPHP Board Vice Chair Ann Pogue-Campbell, Mary Beth Guyther of the Long Island Community Foundation, and Assemblyman Steve Englebright also spoke about how the van will help Planned Parenthood provide more accessible health care. Supporters toured the van and met the staff members who will be taking it into the community. The van will travel around Suffolk County and be housed at the Smithtown Health Center.
The last Time in history that Planned Parenthood sent out their Mobile Vans- they were to target the Black Populations:
