CMP: Planned Parenthood Houston Admits Accounting Gimmicks Hide Baby Parts Sales, Invoices Charge $8,000

From Operation Rescue:

The Center for Medical Progress has released a new video detailing how Planned Parenthood used bogus line-item entries to hide profits from the sale of aborted baby remains.

The video focuses on invoices obtained by Operation Rescue’s Texas attorney Briscoe Cain through Freedom of Information Act requests and connects the dots to Planned Parenthood’s duplicitous book-keeping scheme with clips from the CMP’s undercover investigation at the Houston Planned Parenthood, one of the largest volume late-term abortion facilities in the country.

“The invoices clearly show how Planned Parenthood padded invoices in such a way as to hide the fact they were making illegal profits,” said Operation Rescue Senior Vice President Cheryl Sullenger. “This is not only hard evidence that Planned Parenthood broke the law, but also shows that The Harris County grand jury indicted the wrong people.”

A Harris County Grand Jury recently indicted CMP leader David Daleiden and his associate, Susan Merritt, who conducted the on-site undercover sting in Houston. While the same grand jury is said to have “cleared” Planned Parenthood, Operation Rescue has uncovered evidence that bias in the office of District Attorney Devon Anderson tainted the process and turned the investigation against the whistleblowers who reported evidence of Planned Parenthood’s obvious criminal conduct.

Daleiden and Merritt will turn themselves in at the Harris County Courthouse on Thursday when a press conference by national leaders will present over 100,000 signatures calling on Anderson to drop the charges against Daleiden and Merritt.

A coalition of pro-life leaders, including Sullenger of Operation Rescue, plan to present over 100,000 signatures to Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson after a press conference also Thursday morning.

Operation Rescue President Troy Newman served as a founding Board Member for the Center for Medical Progress. He, along with Daleiden and others, have been sued in a San Francisco Federal Court by Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation, who are attempting to use the courts to silence the evidence against them deflect public attention from their own wrongdoing.

“We call on District Attorney Devon Anderson to resign due to her inability to conduct her duties without bias,” said Sullenger. “We also call for all charges to be dropped against Daleiden and Merritt and for special prosecutors to reopen the Planned Parenthood and Karpen cases.”

Houston abortionist Douglas Karpen was accused by former employees of murdering babies who were born alive during late-term abortions, but was “cleared” by another Anderson grand jury in 2013. Karpen was represented by attorney Chip Lewis, who is a personal friend of Anderson’s and is her largest political donor, who recently indicated he has improper inside knowledge of both grand juries.

Planned Parenthood uses aborted baby parts for humanized mice research

H/T to blogger Jill Stanek who points out that some of the requested “fetal cadavers” from Planned Parenthood in Houston are for experimentation with humanized mice. #humanizedmice .

The Center for Medical Progress released a 5th video showing the nation’s largest Planned Parenthood abortion facility offering intact fetal cadavers which they refer to as “specimens.”

Center for Medical Progress, posing as buyers for a Biotech company sat with the Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Melissa Farrell, at the abortion-clinic headquarters of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas.

CMP’s 5th video transcript implies Planned Parenthood is using the aborted babies for “mice” studies and “Humanized mice”.

Planned Parenthood implant aborted baby mice

_______________________________________________________________________

An article published in Science in the News a Harvard Graduate Student Group at the Harvard Graduate School of the Arts and Sciences explains humanized mice:

Humanized mice are otherwise ordinary breeds of lab mice that have human cells, tissues, or organs. These types of mice are frequently used by immunologists, who give the mice a mostly-human immune system, but they can also be used to study other body systems. This permits researchers to study different aspects of human biology and the effects of certain drugs or disease treatments using experiments that would otherwise be unethical to conduct on a human being and don’t have safer substitutes.

How are mice humanized?

Fetal liver and thymus tissue used as well something Stem Express gets big bucks for

The process of humanizing mice requires the transfer of 17-19 week old human fetal tissue into young mice, 6-8 weeks of age, with weakened immune systems. If a mouse with a normal immune system received human tissue, it would start to reject the tissue immediately after the transfer because its immune system would recognize the added tissue as foreign. This process, graft rejection, also happens in humans who receive incompatible organ transplants. Therefore, researchers use mice with a genetically weakened immune system for the humanization procedure. These genetically immunosuppressed mice tolerate the presence of foreign human tissue for long enough to conduct experiments [].

    Capture

Because a mouse’s body is full of its own immune cells, it is essential to remove these cells to create “space” for the human immune cells to populate. To do this, the mice are subjected to a sub-lethal dose of irradiation. Next, to create a niche where the cells can be constantly replenished, the scientists make a small surgical incision to implant human fetal liver and thymus tissue underneath the mouse’s kidney. Finally, human stem cells are injected directly into the mouse’s blood. 17-20 weeks after this procedure, the reconstitution is considered complete when the cells have divided sufficiently to populate their “home” in the mouse’s body. A number of variations to the technique can be introduced depending on the experimental question that needs to be addressed, but most labs follow this general procedure.

These details from the Jackson Laboratory talk about, “engrafting human CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells (hHSCs) alone (hu-CD34 NSG™) or in combination with human fetal thymus and liver tissue transplanted under the kidney capsule.”

But, according to their website, the Jackson Laboratory was founded in 1929 as The Roscoe B. Jackson Memorial Laboratory by Clarence Cook Little an advocate of eugenics.

Little created the first inbred (genetically uniform) mouse strains and wanted to use them experimentally to establish that cancer was a genetic disease, not an infectious disorder, as was widely thought at the time. He gained initial financial support for the Laboratory from Detroit industrialists Edsel Ford, president of the Ford Motor Company, and Roscoe B. Jackson (for whom the Laboratory is named), president of the Hudson Motorcar Company.

In a previous post, I explain how aborted baby parts are being implanted into animals and how some of those parts are coming from Stem Express, a fetal tissue procurement company used by Planned Parenthood.

The research, co-authored by Eugene Guhe founder and CEO of Ganogen, Inc., a biotech company in Redwood City, California, raises a number of ethical questions, including whether it is acceptable to use human fetal organs in research, or to transplant human organs into animals. If the research moves forward, it must be determined that the organs were obtained with proper consent, and that the research was conducted with adequate oversight, experts told CBS News.

Fetal Kidney donation

On their website, Ganogen, Inc., says that they have found a way to successfully transplant human fetal kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, and other organs into animal hosts using advanced microsurgery.

“After transplantation, the fetal organ continues to grow and mature. It even demonstrates function, and in the case of the kidney, can keep the host animal alive all on its own,” they explain.

According to CBS, Gu and his colleagues obtained human fetal kidneys from Stem Express, a Placerville, California-based company that supplies researchers with tissue from deceased adults and fetuses.

On their website, Stem Express writes that their “human tissue products range from fetal to adult and healthy to diseased, and we also collect bone marrow and leukapheresis for isolation.”

They go on to say that, “Working with hospitals and clinics across the United States, all human tissue and blood procurement is performed in accordance with IRB-approved protocols and consents. Protecting the privacy of our researchers and donors is always the highest priority at StemExpress.

PPHouston

The Center for Medical Progress has released a 5th video showing the nation’s largest Planned Parenthood abortion facility offering intact fetal cadavers which they refer to as “specimens.”

Center for Medical Progress, posing as buyers for a Biotech company sat with the Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Melissa Farrell, at the abortion-clinic headquarters of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas.

Our organization has been doing research for many many many years,” Farrell tells CMP.

At issue is whether Planned Parenthood is violating federal law in selling aborted baby body parts and altering the abortion procedures to do so.

Deviate-from-our-standard-PP-300x170

We deviate from our standard to do that,” Planned Parenthood’s Director of Research says in the video.

Adding that the procedure is “generally standard” but admitting “I’m saying standard loosely.”

She also admits that six of the abortion facility’s doctors abort babies beyond 16 weeks and the “doctors” also do “research.”

Asked if Planned Parenthood can alter or adjust the procedure to get the specific organ or tissue needed, the Planned Parenthood employee repeatedly replies yes.

Even agreeing to 18-20 week “specimens” that are “intact‘ meaning babies that are delivered or aborted whole.

“We’re going to potentially have some that will be more or less intact and then some that will not be,” Farrell says.

Yeah if we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this, I mean- that’s- it’s all just a matter of line items.”

Farrell also indicates to the investigators over lunch that the specimen sales from her department contribute significantly to Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast’s overall finances: “I think everyone realizes, especially because my department contributes so much to the bottom line of our organization here, you know we’re one of the largest affiliates, our Research Department is the largest in the United States. Larger than any the other affiliates’ combined.

TEXAS INVESTIGATION

The Texas governor has ordered an investigation into Planned Parenthood and recently a hearing on the matter was conducted in the state.

During the hearing, the state’s attorney general testified their investigators saw fingers and toes in “POC Room”:

ken-paxton-20110524662_40ca90a729_h-300x200

“Our investigators are working across Texas to gather information and evidence relevant to the case. Last week, after a meeting at a Houston Planned Parenthood clinic, officials there invited our team to take a look around, including a stop at what they call the ‘POC Room.’ POC stands for ‘Products of Conception.’ There, lab technicians receive the remains of aborted children – also known as ‘the products’ – which are washed, examined, bagged, refrigerated, accumulated and every week taken away by a contractor that burns their bodies as medical waste.”

“As my staffers watched, a technician took an aborted child from a jar, rinsed it in a colander, and placed the body parts in a tray. Fingers and toes, exceptionally tiny but fully-formed, were clearly visible. The remains were eventually deposited in a red plastic bag, about the size of an average grocery sack. According to the people at the facility, they average at least 260 pounds of “medical waste” a week, every week.”

In 2013, Life Dynamics interviewed former employees from a Houston abortion facility unrelated to Planned Parenthood.

The abortion workers claimed the doctor would sometimes abort babies that would come out alive.

A partial transcript from the interview read as follows:

Clinic Worker: “ Most of the time we would see him where the fetus would come completely out and of course the fetus would still be alive because it was still moving, of course, you could see the stomach breathing and um that’s when he would do his um, he would snip the spine, as they were saying this doctor did and of course the soft spot was one of the spots that he um would take one of the forceps, or what is it called? The dilators and stick it down the soft spot of the fetuses head.”

    Interviewer: “You saw this happen?”

Clinic Worker: “Oh yes. I think every morning I saw on several occasions. If we had um, if we had 20 something patients, of course maybe 10 or 12, or 13 or 15 would be large procedures – out of those large procedures I’m pretty sure I was seeing 3 to 4 fetus that were completely delivered in some way or another.”

PLANNED PARENTHOOD PATHOLOGY ROOM

In the Center for Medical Progress video, CMP “buyers” are taken into Planned Parenthood’s back pathology room where they ask to view any fresh specimens i.e. aborted babies.

With a BIG smile on her face, the Planned Parenthood assistant says, “We had a really long day and they are all mixed up in a bag,” she states as she giggles.

They then ask for a look anyway and a Planned Parenthood worker tells them, “It varies on gestation, sometimes they come out really intact.”

They tell CMP that they keep the “specimens” frozen.

basemen-sealed-up-Planned-Parnethood

The disturbing images of Planned Parenthood poking through the remains if unborn children are horrific as they brag that their tiny organs come out “really really well.

Stating they get “40 to 50 easy” babies per month that are 16-22 weeks.

In addition, the employees discuss how Planned Parenthood Federation of America is “moving away from a standardized policy” regarding fetal tissue donation because PPFA is, “encouraging more participation but they don’t want to get too into the mix of it,” they say.

Earlier this week, a vote in the Senate to defund Planned Parenthood failed to reach the needed 60 votes to move the bill forward. The abortion baby parts business receives half a billion dollars in federal tax money each year.

New research: harvest organs from aborted fetuses to implant in animals

UPDATE NOTE: This blog was posted before The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released videos showing Planned Parenthood’s operation of harvesting aborted baby parts. As I note in this post, Stem Express, which procured fetal parts from Planned Parenthood is listed as a source for these babies implanted into animals. The Washington Examiner writes of Gu, that, through his start-up research company, Ganogen, Gu has obtained fetal organs from StemExpress, which is being investigated by the House of Representatives Select Investigative Panel on Infants’ Lives. It is noteworthy that Gu and Stem Express owner Cate Dyer have authored a response together to the Select Panel investigating the use of fetal tissue.

It is now feasible to remove a kidney from an aborted human fetus and implant the organ into a rat, where the kidney can grow to a larger size. That was a statement written in an article published by The Genetic Literacy Project.

It’s possible that further work could find a way to grow kidneys large enough that they could be transplanted into a person, the researchers said, although much more research is needed to determine whether this could be done, the article states.

The new findings are published in the American Journal of Transplantation.

The research, co-authored by Eugene Gu (Guhe) founder and CEO of Ganogen, Inc., a biotech company in Redwood City, California, raises a number of ethical questions, including whether it is acceptable to use human fetal organs in research, or to transplant human organs into animals. We also use our patented medical device, the arterial flow regulator, to make the fetal organ compatible for transplantation into the adult animal host.

The company, which operates in more than 30 procurement sites across the United States and delivers product to hundreds of researchers worldwide has an online market of fetal cells that be purchased:

According to Gu, people who donated the fetal tissues gave consent for the kidneys to be used in research.

The researchers transplanted the fetal kidneys into adult rats that lacked an immune system (so as to avoid tissue rejection), and connected the animals’ blood vessels to the organs using a challenging procedure that involved tiny stitches, about three to four times smaller than the width of a human hair.

Kidney Transplant fetal Ganogen abortion

We did this study in rats as proof-of-concept to show that human fetal organs can indeed survive in an animal host, can function to keep the animal alive, and can grow larger over time,” Gu told Medical Daily. The rats survived roughly four months after the transplant, and one even lived for 10 months.

Cate Dyer, CEO and founder of Stem Express, claimed that all “donors”, that is the pregnant women seeking the abortion and not the unborn child whose kidney’s were taken, are, “properly consented through an Institutional Review Board (IRB) consent, and donors are made aware of the potential use of any sample that we collect.”

IRB Fetal Research

The IRB defines a Fetus as, “the product of conception from the time of implantation until delivery. If the delivered or expelled fetus is viable, it is designated an infant. (Hereafter, the term “fetus” will refer to a living fetus unless otherwise specified.) The term “fetus” generally refers to later phases of development; the term “embryo” is usually used for earlier phases of development.

Research involving the human fetus raises special concerns for IRB reviewers, the review boards states on the HHS website, “The fetus has a unique and inextricable relationship to the mother. It cannot consent to be a research subject. These circumstances have aroused lengthy public debate on the ethics of fetal research, and led to special federal regulations that guide IRB deliberations about fetal research. The fetus may also be an indirect subject of research when women who may be pregnant participate. Research involving pregnant women is also regulated.”

IRB Research abortion fetus

Under the section: CONSIDERATIONS, the IRB address abortion, “If abortion is involved, the investigators may have no part in either the decision to abort or decisions about the timing or the method to be used; no change in the abortion procedure that would present more than minimal risk to the fetus or its mother can be introduced for research purposes. No monetary or other inducements (e.g., free care) may be offered to a woman to induce her to terminate her pregnancy for research purposes, IRB states.

In another section the IRB addresses research on non-viable fetuses, “A fetus is judged nonviable if it cannot possibly survive to the point of sustaining life independently, even with the support of available medical therapy, and will therefore die. Research involving a nonviable fetus that would either artificially maintain vital functions or hasten their failure is forbidden. Ethical considerations call upon investigators to maintain the dignity of this dying human subject and to avoid unseemly intrusions in the process of dying for research purposes.

However, in detailing how to obtain aborted fetal tissue, the IRB says the following should be followed:

The decision to terminate a pregnancy and procedures of abortion should be kept independent from the retrieval and use of fetal tissue.
The timing and method of abortion should not be influenced by the potential uses of fetal tissue for transplantation or medical research.
Payments and other forms of remuneration and compensation associated with the procurement of fetal tissue should be prohibited, except payment for reasonable expenses occasioned by the actual retrieval, storage, preparation, and transportation of the tissues.

Addressing the possibility of research on a live fetus where the mother has already decided to have an abortion, The IRB says that, “The National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects wrestled with this problem and concluded that there is no difference between the moral status of a fetus destined for abortion and that of a fetus to be carried to term. Therefore, only those research procedures that would be acceptable for a fetus going to term may be performed in anticipation of abortion.”

In all research in which human fetuses are the subjects of research, the consent of the mother on behalf of the fetus is required. As a general rule, the consent of the father on behalf of the fetus is also required before a fetus may be enrolled in research. Exceptions to the requirement that the father provide consent are permitted if: (1) the father’s identity or whereabouts cannot reasonably be ascertained; (2) the father is not reasonably available; or (3) the pregnancy resulted from rape,” IRB states.

Rats Human Kidney abortion fetus

In addition to kidneys, the researchers have also transplanted human fetal hearts into rats, Gu told CBS, which details the process.

Ultimately, the researchers plan to transplant the kidneys into larger animals, such as pigs, where the organs could grow large enough to be transplanted back into people, Gu said.

Hank Greely, an ethical and legal expert on biomedical science at Stanford Law School outlined his concerns, “The key issues are the existence of the pregnant woman’s consent and the total separation of the decision to abort from the decision to let the fetal remains be used in research,” Greely told Live Science.

In other words, a woman must have already decided to have an abortion before she can be asked whether she is willing to donate the fetus for research.

We feel that our research is more palatable than all the other researchers who use taxpayer money to fund their research involving aborted human fetal tissues, which is the vast majority of major biomedical research labs,” Gu said to Medical Daily.

Addressing his use of harvested organs from aborted fetuses, Gu says he and his colleagues “do not want to encourage abortions in any way, shape, or form. … If the organs are available, it is better to use them to save somebody’s life rather than throw them into the trash bin.”

Undoubtedly, writes Medical Daily, Gu’s argument is probably echoed in many research labs around the world. That said, most people would still find the details of his work unsavory… unless of course they needed a kidney, they say.

But, they fail to mention, religious, pro-life people, and many others find the use of aborted fetal tissue or organs for research morally objectionable.
