Abortion victim imagery credited for win against 1972 abortion proposal in Michigan

The use of abortion victim imagery has been a debated topic for the pro-life movement for many years but the fact is that showing the American public what abortion looks like has been instrumental in changing hearts and minds on the humanity of the preborn person in the womb. The use of victim images dates back to the days prior to and just after legalization of abortion both at the state level and the federal level.

In 1972, a year before the infamous Roe V Wade Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion on demand in the nation, the State of Michigan asked voters to vote on Proposition B which would, “Allow abortion under certain circumstances.”

According to information obtained from the October 18, 1972 Claire Sentinel, the proposal would allow for only licensed physicians in hospitals or clinic settings to perform abortions rather than “allowing abortions to be [sic] preformed by the same hucksters who have been operating illegally for years.”

According to other reports, the measure was proposed to permit a woman to have an abortion for any reason up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. Backers of the abortion measure claimed the move would make abortions more available to the “poorer segment of the population,” according to a October 19, 1972 report by Wakefield News.

As a result, a coalition of pro-life groups, A Voice of the Unborn, under the direction of Detroit resident Dr. Richards Jaynes, launched an offensive. The coalition included the Michigan Catholic Conference as well as the Right to Life Committee and the Southern Baptist Church.

“The humanity of the child is the only issue,” Dr. Jaynes told the Holland Evening Sentinel on September 02, 1972 . “Nobody has a right to deprive him of his life, not even his mother.”

Pro-life activist Lynn Mills, who uncovered the flyer, told this blog that she remembers proponents of the pro-life measure, “Coming into my school in Livonia and explaining all of the different types of abortions.”

The organization mailed pamphlets like the one seen below (archived at the Bentley Historical Library) to the community. And, they  included abortion victim imagery:

The effort paid off because voters rejected the measure.

According to historian Daniel K Williams in his book, Defenders of the Unborn, the group had mailed the brochures to 250,000 African Americans households, linking abortion concerns to race.

The strategy, Williams said originated with African American Democratic state representative and civil rights activist Rosetta Ferguson, who joined the cause as director of Michigan’s Voice of the Unborn.

Ferguson called abortion legalization, “Black Genocide.”

Ferguson was not alone in linking abortion to eugenics and genocide.

This blog has extensive research documenting how Black leaders, including many Black women understood that abortion was targeting their community.

The use of abortion victim imagery also inspired the pro-life movement’s iconic “precious feet” pin.

Dr. Sacco’s image of aborted baby

In the early 1970’s, Dr. Russell Sacco, a urologist from Oregon began reading “anatomical books,” and when the Supreme Court ruled that murdering the preborn was “legal,” the doctor became, in his words, “furious.”

It was shortly after this that Sacco met a pathologist who had preserved aborted babies’ bodies in a bucket of formaldehyde, which he showed Sacco. “… [I]n the bucket were about seven or eight infant bodies. It was a little bit shocking for me to see that but, there they were.”

Dr. Sacco said he took out “one body at a time” to photograph them. Then, he cataloged each child and their estimated ages.

After developing the film, he discovered that the images of the feet were “better than I had thought. I really thought that… maybe God did that one for me.”

The image, which Dr. Sacco refused to copyright so it could be used worldwide, has been referred to as “Tiny Feet,” “Little Feet,” and “Precious Feet.”

Dr. Sacco’s picture of aborted baby feet

Sacco later met Dr. Jack Willke who asked to use those images in his book Handbook on Abortion. Following that, the picture was printed in early pro-life brochures such as “Life and Death” and “Did you Know?” The photo soon “went viral,” as they say, and was published in countless flyers, books and pamphlets. That photo then inspired an Arizona couple, Ellis and Virginia Evers, the founders of Heritage House, which now offers the pins for purchase.

Michigan abortion facility open since the 1970s shuts down

A long standing abortion facility in Michigan, the Eastern Women’s Center/Women’s Center of Michigan has suddenly closed its doors with no apparent warning. Pro-life activist Lynn Mills came upon the announcement when looking at Google maps. Mills followed up by calling the abortion facility, located in Warren, where she was told by a staffer that the facility was closed and they were diverting patients to their Sterling Heights location. No other details about the closure were given to Mills.

The facility was owned by Jacob Kalo, who at one time operated five facilities in the state. After selling his Lathrup Village facility this past summer, the number now stands at three. In 2o14, that facility, the Women’s Center of Southfield, had its license suspended for several health and safety violations, according to officials.

The following year, an abortion patient from the Lathrup Village facility went public about her gruesome late term botched procedure and perforated uterus. According to a 911 transcript obtained by Mills, the abortion was committed by Kalo’s contracted late trimester abortion doctor, Reginald Sharpe.

The woman reached out to Mills and detailed during a national radio interview, how parts of her almost 24-week preborn child had been pushed through the uterine perforation, and the abortionist was having difficulty removing them. Mills told Live Action News that the woman recounted how the abortionist had been training another doctor to do the later term procedure that day.

While the patient waited for the emergency responders, she said the doctor changed his clothes and “Swiffered and cleaned up. Then, they placed an IV for the EMS people and kind of scrambled around.”

The woman stated in a radio interview, “And I saw this red bucket on the floor and – uh – what I saw was just….” The woman, unable to continue, had seen her dismembered baby, explained Mills.

Mills told Live Action News that the Warren facility building had been up for sale for several years. Pro-lifers outside Kalo’s facilities have had interesting interactions with the abortionist.

Mills regularly warns patients outside the facility about the abortionist, and according to the abortionist himself, numerous women have come forward with complaints about him since pro-lifers began warning patients with signs (shown above). In the video below, Kalo claims the accusations are false.

A July 25, 2018 review written by an alleged patient and  published on Vitals.com accuses the abortionist of conducting a pelvic exam with an “ungloved hand” as well as other inappropriate conduct:

… During my last visit when I was being brought into the exam, I wasn’t told to undress from the waist down. When Dr. Kalo and the two nurses/nursing assistants came into the room, that’s when he told me to undress. So, I had to undress in front of three people with zero privacy. He didn’t use stirrups on me and just had me lay on the exam table with my legs up. He didn’t wash his hands prior to my exam, only put one glove on, and did my entire pelvic exam with his ungloved hand. Additionally, I had the paper cloth over my waist, and this doctor literally cupped my butt after he was finished with the pelvic exam. I’m talking about the grabbing of one’s butt that your significant other does to you too. He also conducts his breast exams in a peculiar manner. Not your normal breast exam… He did not wash his hands after the pelvic and breast exams, and neither did the nurses/nursing assistants who were in the room with him. I wished I would have send [sic] something, but I was so dumbfounded that he would forget to put a glove on and grabbed my butt that I froze…

Mills said Kalo’s facilities were recently licensed by the state, which enacted regulations only a few years ago. But Kalo has been able to operate his facilities regardless, while awaiting inspections.

“He’s most likely cutting his losses now,” Mills said.

Shortly after the state passed clinic licensure regulations, Mills claims over a dozen abortion facilities closed rather than face the occasional (every three year) inspection by regulatory officials.

“This is just another victory for pro-lifers and babies,” Mills stated.

Don’t believe the lie that making abortion illegal will cause thousands of women to die

From Live Action News | Article text starts here

As society rejects abortion in larger and larger percentages and the humanity of the preborn child becomes overwhelmingly obvious, the radical abortion lobby reverts to false claims used successfully in the past — especially the lie that if abortion was ever again made illegal, thousands of women would die.

Embedded in this lie is the assumption that legal abortion means safe abortion, and this is based on the false claim that when abortion used to be illegal, thousands (or even millions) of women died because of it.

While this false claim has spread like wildfire, the truth is that Dr. Bernard Nathanson — one of the early founders of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) who later repented of his pro-abortion actions and views, revealed that he and his colleagues fabricated the large numbers of deaths from illegal abortion in an attempt to sway public opinion toward making abortion legal:

We persuaded the media that the cause of permissive abortion was a liberal, enlightened, sophisticated one…. Knowing that if a true poll were taken, we would be soundly defeated, we simply fabricated the results of fictional polls. We announced to the media that we had taken polls and that 60 percent of Americans were in favor of permissive abortion. This is the tactic of the self-fulfilling lie. Few people care to be in the minority. We aroused enough sympathy to sell our program of permissive abortion by fabricating the number of illegal abortions done annually in the U.S. The actual figure was approaching 100,000, but the figure we gave to the media repeatedly was 1,000,000.

This lie appeared to work.

During the debate to liberalize abortion in New York, the fabrication about illegal abortions actually swayed one representative to change his vote on the floor, opening the door to abortion on demand in that state.

The deciding vote was cast by Democrat Assemblyman George Michaels, who told the LA Times that for years he had been told by local party leaders not to vote for the repeal of the abortion ban, and he pledged not to.

For two years he had followed the party line. “I would vote no, hoping the bill would pass,” he said. “I was not doing the right thing.”

George Michaels

In April, 1970, Michaels had a conversation with his daughter-in-law, Sarah, and the topic of illegal abortions came up. Michaels told the LA Times that Sarah said, “In the meantime, thousands of women will be mutilated and die because of that stupid Legislature.”

The paper describes Michaels’ response and what occurred next:

“Boy, that rocked me,” Michaels says “That rocked me.”

Michaels returned to Albany still not knowing how he would vote, he says. “I was hoping somebody would switch; that it wouldn’t be George Michaels.”

The vote was taken. Michaels voted against the repeal. Then, just before the clerk announced the vote, he stood up and asked the Speaker to change his vote.

“When it came to a tie vote, I could not go through that charade any longer,” he said. “I knew my career was finished.”

And, based on a lie, the Assemblyman voted to repeal New York’s abortion laws, opening up a floodgate of abortions in the state.

Since those early years, the abortion lobby has stuck with that lie, and the media has been more than willing to help.

A report authored by Merry Merrifield and published in the Chicago Tribune claimed that in 1964, 264 deaths had occurred from illegal abortion, according to the Department of Health Education and welfare (HEW).

Illegal abortion deaths Planned Parenthood 1991

In 1991, Planned Parenthood published its version of a “Fact Sheet” on illegal abortion deaths. These are some of the claims about illegal abortions made in that publication:

Between 1845 and 1970… desperation forced millions of women to turn to dangerous back-alley, or self-induced abortions.

Thousands of women died, at least 100 each year.

In 1972, although abortion by then was legal in at least 11 states, 330,000 illegal abortions were performed nationwide. At least 100 women died.

Well, Planned Parenthood wasn’t even close.

Statistics show that in the year prior to Roe (1972), the Center for Disease Control’s abortion surveillance reports disputed Planned Parenthood’s alleged “facts.” In this table from the CDC report (shown below) just 39 women died from illegal abortion in 1972 while 24 died from legal abortion.

CDC Abortion deaths 1972 to 1990

What Planned Parenthood doesn’t typically say is that one of its own former presidents, Alan Guttmacher, made it clear that a majority of those who committed the supposedly dangerous illegal abortions which killed (according to them) “thousands of women,” were none other than trained physicians.

A 1967 Harvard Crimson article documented the statement, writing, “Seventy per cent of the illegal abortions in the country are performed by reputable physicians, each thinking himself a knight in white armor.”

Despite all the past rhetoric regarding illegal abortion, the reality is that it is becoming more and more difficult to convince the American public that “legal” abortion is safe — and this is for good reason.

Cree Erwin-Sheppard died in July 2016, a few days after having an abortion at Kalamazoo’s Planned Parenthood facility on West Michigan Avenue. The 24-year-old had an abortion there on June 30, according to Operation Rescue. (The pro-life group has since filed a complaint against the Kalamazoo Planned Parenthood, seeking a revocation of its license to conduct abortions.) Local pro-life activist Lynn Mills, who uncovered the woman’s tragic death and has been working to expose all the facts of this case, quickly organized a rally to demand Justice for Cree.

Surprisingly, no one from the abortion lobby cared to weigh in.

The woman’s brother, Tyler Sheppard, even flew to Michigan to speak out against what Planned Parenthood did to his sister.

A portion of his statement can be heard in the video below, following an excerpt of the emotional 911 call made by Cree’s mother, who discovered her daughter’s body:

According to a report by Operation Rescue:

Sheppard displayed a copy of Cree’s medical record obtained by another family member from Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek where she had sought help for severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting two days after having a 12-week abortion at Planned Parenthood in Kalamazoo.

At the hospital, records show that an ultrasound discovered “products of conception” inside the uterus consistent with an “incomplete miscarriage,” the hospital’s term for an incomplete abortion.

“They saw baby parts still inside of my sister and they still sent her home . . . I want to know what happened,” Sheppard said, questioning why she was not treated at this hospital.

Tonya Reaves died from abortion at Planned Parenthood

An autopsy was performed on July 4, 2016, which showed that a uterine perforation was discovered. Blood clots were found in her uterine artery and lungs, which caused her death. Blood and urine were sent for toxicology screening.

But Operation Rescue states that “when the autopsy was finally released on March 9, 2017, all mention of the abortion, uterine perforation, and IUD insertion were redacted along with the salient portions of the cause of death while other sensitive information was left intact.”

While answers are still forth coming in Cree’s abortion death, there is no debate in what happened to another 24-year-old Planned Parenthood patient by the name of Tonya Reaves.

Reaves died following a fatal second trimester abortion which she received at an Illinois Planned Parenthood on July 20, 2012.

The care — or shall we say lack of care — that Planned Parenthood gave to Reaves was so egregious that Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation were ordered to pay Tonya’s family $2 million in a wrongful death settlement.

Tragically, Reaves and Erwin-Sheppard are just two examples of a growing list of women who have died after believing the lie that legalizing abortion made it safe. The names of these women haunt abortion supporters who refuse to acknowledge their tragic end.

State files complaint against Abortion doc once accused of threatening wife with pistol after failing to report several criminal convictions

A Michigan abortion doctor may be facing possible sanctions after failing to notify the state about several arrests and criminal convictions in violation of state law. Thomas James Gordon performs abortions at Heritage Clinic for Women, a Grand Rapids National Abortion Federation clinic which has failed to publicly distance themselves from Gordon despite Live Action News documenting his criminal history in January. Now, the state’s medical licensing board has filed a formal complaint against Gordon for failing to notify them of the convictions.

Thomas Gordon

According to a search of Michigan Corporations conducted by Live Action News, Gordon is the Registered Agent for the Heritage Clinic for Women abortion clinic. His offenses included domestic violence as well as “Weapons – Firearms – Possession Under the Influence” among other offenses. In addition, Gordon has history of domestic violence directed at his wife which should cause concern for female patients under his care.

WZZM13, a local Grand Rapids news outlet, has reported that Gordon’s failure to report the arrests and convictions could affect his ability to practice:

“Documents we obtained show state experts are concerned the doctor’s past criminal cases could affect his ability to practice in a “safe and competent manner”.

Pro-life researcher, Lynn Mills spoke with Live Action News about the case and said that local activists who regularly pray and counsel outside Gordon’s abortion facility began noticing his absences in January and became suspicious. She provided a copy of the complaint filed by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs against Gordon in early March for failing to notify the state within 30 days of a criminal conviction. Michigan state law requires that, “A licensee or registrant shall notify the department of any criminal conviction within 30 days after the date of the conviction. Failure of a licensee or registrant to notify the department under this subsection shall result in administrative action under sections 16221 and 16226.”

According to the complaint , Gordon failed to report the following criminal convictions to the state as required under the law:

April of 1992– Convicted of “Aggravated Assault” (suspended sentence – 90 days in jail a fine and 18 months probation.)

December of 2015 – Convicted of “Operating While Intoxicated” (probation of six months and ordered to pay costs and fines.)

Even more disturbing, WZZM13 dug into the Gordon’s violent history further and discovered that he had allegedly threatened his wife with a pistol. They reported that “In 2010, Gordon’s wife Shelly filed a Personal Protection Order against him. She wrote quote:”Thomas has beat (me) several times in the past 3 years, he has even put his 45 mm pistol to my head when I was sleeping.”

A copy of the order provided to Live Action News from local activists shows that while on a trip to Jamaica, Gordon’s wife alleges that a “layover and wrong transport made him snap.” She describes his anger against her and the hotel front desk clerk. After being escorted to her room, she described how Gordon came back to the room where she was already sleep when, according to the abortion doctor’s wife, he “started hitting me in face, body said he doesn’t like me – hit me and damage my nose…”

Gordon’s wife Shelly writes that she defended herself and told Gordon he had a problem and she accused him of “probably beat his first wife” adding that she had filed for divorce.

A copy of a Kent County Sheriff Department Affidavit of Probable Cause dated November 6, 2011 provided to Live Action News paints a picture of how unstable and violent this Michigan abortionist is, reading :

Suspect Thomas Gordon, did commit a felonious assault upon his wife, Shelly Gordon. The Gordons were involved in a verbal argument, in the finished basement of their residence. Thomas had a Kimber Combat Carry, semi auto pistol, chambered in .45 ACP, resting on the counter of a kitchenette area. The victim, Shelly Gordon, stated that she was going to go upstairs. Thomas stated “I’ll shoot you and anyone that fucks with me.” He then ran over to the counter top, picked up the pistol, racked the slide and pointed it at Shelly. Shelly then grabbed hold of the pistol and Thomas’ hand. She stated “you are not going to shoot me,” as she tried to pry the pistol from his grasp. They continued the physical struggle and Thomas fell against the wall and then on to the floor. Shelly was able to grab the gun and run upstairs. She secreted the gun under a pillow, on the upstairs couch. Shelly then ran outside and hid, where she called 911. Thomas did submit to a breathalyzer, upon arrival at the jail. This yielded the BAC results of .21. It should be noted that the magazine for the pistol, although loaded with six rounds, was not in the grip of the pistol. Shelly stated that she believed the firearm was loaded.

The affidavit also states that the abortionist told police officers called to the scene of the incident that he is a doctor who makes $1,000,000 per year and “drinks alcohol every day.”

Despite his violent history, the Heritage Clinic for Women website describes Gordon as possessing, “a strong sense of dedication, professionalism and integrity.” Live Action News called Heritage Clinic for Women and has verified that Gordon is still performing abortions at the center. A June 2, 2016 search of “abortion providers” listed at the NAF website reveals that the National Abortion Federation continues to refer to Heritage despite Gordon’s criminal record.

In an effort to persuade authorities to take immediate action against Gordon’s ability to practice medicine, local pro-lifers have set up an online petition asking The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to act quickly to summarily suspend Gordon’s license. They are also asking concerned pro-lifers to please call Shelly Edgerton who is the Director of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for the state as well as Michigan Attorney General, Bill Schuette to voice their concern about the abortionist as well. The petition along with additional contact information can be found here. According to WZZM13, Gordon has until June 6 to respond to the complaint filed against him by the state.

Michigan abortion clinic investigation result of pro-life dirt-digger complaint

A Michigan Attorney General lawsuit recently filed to shut down a Detroit abortion clinic for illegally operating can be credited to the hard work of a persistent pro-life activist. Abortion clinics in the state of Michigan are under the watchful eye of Lynn Mills who is using unusual tactics to close them down. Mills has been researching the abortion industry in her state for many years. She spends hours combing through documents connected to either an abortion clinic or the doctor or owner of the facility. Her dirt-digging skills have been credited with the revocation of the licenses of abortion doctors as well as the closure of abortion clinics.

Michigan pro-life activist Lynn Mills

Michigan pro-life activist Lynn Mills

Recently Mills discovered that Summit Women’s Center of Detroit which performs abortions up to 24 weeks, did not have a licensed physician listed on their corporate filings in violation of state law. As a result, the state has moved to not only dissolve the clinic as a corporation but to enjoin the officers from operating a medical facility in the state ever again.

-Summit-medical

At one time, the abortion clinic chain founded by the Lipton family in 1973, had six locations in 5 states:Connecticut, Michigan, Georgia, Nevada, and Wisconsin. A few years ago the abortion clinic in Wisconsin closed. Eventually the two Connecticut facilities closed along with the Las Vegas center, leaving the Detroit, Michigan and Georgia centers remaining.

csummit-abortion-clinicsSUmmit smc_mi_2adsummit-atlanta-abortions

In 2013, Mills said she was looking at the Summit website where it stated that their physicians were all OBGYN board certified. Mills was familiar with most of the abortionists and she knew that the statement was false. After the discovery, a complaint was filed with the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) for false advertising. Shortly thereafter Mills rechecked the clinic’s website and noted that it had changed, now stating:

Most of our Physicians are board-certified obstetrician / gynecologists. Some of our medical personnel are licensed with extensive backgrounds in reproductive health services.

Summit Medical Center website

Summit Medical Center website

“When they are caught in a lie, we have to speak out
,” Mills said, noting that this incident was pointed out in the current complaint.

According to the complaint filed by the Michigan State Attorney’s Office and provided to Saynsumthn, David Lipton, is listed as Summit’s president, secretary, treasurer, while Anise Burrell was listed as the administrator and contact. But, Mills points out that after the state passed stricter abortion laws, requiring abortion clinics be licensed and inspected, Summit’s corporate filings no longer only listed Lipton as an officer but now included long-time abortionist Alex Pickens Jr. MD. Pickens JR was listed on the corporate filings as far back as 2011.

Summitt 2011 Pickens

Mills later discovered that in the most recent filings, Pickens was no longer listed on the corporate filings prompting her to file a complaint with the state’s Attorney General in December of 2015. In that document, provided to Live Action News, Mills points out that by 2015 David Lipton was the only officer listed in the corporate filings, and no physician was listed as an officer of the abortion clinic chain.

David Lipton officer Summit abortion

Mills pointed out in her complaint with the Attorney General that the corporation’s purpose had changed from “practice of medicine doctor” to “management company” despite the Summit’s records stating that “each shareholder is a licensed person in 1 or more of the professional services provided by the professional corporation.” Mills saw immediately that this was false, since David Lipton was NOT licensed, writing, “there is no Licensed medical doctor as part of its 2015 filing which is required by Michigan state law.”

Michigan statutes state: “A professional corporation shall not engage in any business other than providing the professional service or services for which it was specifically incorporated.”

“We saw that the corporation papers were not in order and Pickens the abortionist had not signed anything for years.”

Bill Shuette, the State’s Attorney General appears to note the work of Mills in his complaint. According to that complaint, Shutte’s office reviewed Summit’s incorporation in 2011 through its annual report of 2014, noting that Summit P.C.’s sole officer and director was Alex Pickens, Jr., MD, a licensed physician; but on May 11, 2015, the AG’s complaint states that David Lipton filed the 2015 annual report with LARA certifying that he was Summit P.C.’s president, secretary, treasurer, director, and sole shareholder, but no physician was listed as required by law.

Pickens Bankruptcy

Additionally, the complaint alleged that Alex Pickens, Jr., MD had filed for bankruptcy in 2013 and failed to list Summit P.C. as an asset or entity. That bankruptcy document was included in Mill’s original complaint to the AG. The petition required Pickens to disclose “all businesses in which [he] was an officer, director, partner, or managing executive . . . within six years” of commencing the bankruptcy. Pickens disclosed three businesses: one professional corporation, one business corporation, and one nonprofit corporation. But failed to disclose Summit.

Pickens Bankruptcy

The AG’s complaint states:

Pickens’s failure to disclose his ownership of Summit P.C. to the bankruptcy court, and the subsequent filing of ownership by David Lipton, suggests that Alex Pickens, Jr., MD may never have been the true owner of Summit P.C. and that Summit P.C. was organized through fraud and repeatedly and willfully exceeded its authority.

The Attorney General’s complaint alleges that David Lipton, who is listed on Summit P.C.’s 2015 annual report as its sole officer, director, and shareholder, is not a “licensed person” under the law.

Therefore, Defendant Lipton’s role as sole shareholder of Summit P.C. violates state law. Likewise, the transfer of ownership from Alex Pickens, Jr., MD to Lipton also violates state law.

The complaint states that the “remedy is dissolution” and that “the failure of a professional corporation to ensure that its shareholders are legally qualified to provided professional services “is grounds for the forfeiture of its articles of incorporation and its dissolution,” which may be brought by the Attorney General.

It also states that the state wants to enjoin all employees of Summit from providing medical services unless they comply with state law:

The AG Seeks to preliminarily enjoin Defendants David Lipton and Anise Burrell from incorporating, organizing, or doing business in the State of Michigan as an owner, officer, or employee of any other corporation or entity for the purpose of offering or providing medical services to the public, practicing medicine, or contracting to have medical services performed for such corporation or entity, unless and until they obtain the requisite licenses and otherwise complies with Michigan law. [MCL 600.3601]

According to Mills, since the AG filed their complaint and just days prior to the publication of this report, Mills said she pulled Summit’s corporate filings again and noticed that Pickens is now listed as the Medical Director. This comes after, the attorney general cited the clinic for failing to comply with the law. And, Mills states, Pickens has also amended his bankruptcy papers to claim he owned shares in the Summit. But, Mills points out these changes only point out the need to investigate the abortion clinic’s corporate filings further and, she says, anyone can do this. Her vigilance may cause the collapse of another abortion clinic and Mills said she will not stop researching these places until each one is closed permanently.

AG files complaint against abortion doc charging negligence and failing to protect patient’s personal information

Michael Roth

An abortion doctor who stored dozens of jars containing “products of conception” (a term used for aborted babies) is the subject of a Michigan Attorney General Office complaint charging him negligence and failing to protect patient’s personal information. Dr. Michael Authur Roth a long time circuit-riding abortion provider in the state made headlines earlier this fall after police found 14 containers identified at the time as “human tissue” and as well as controlled substances in his car after it was involved in a traffic incident.

The administrative complaint, filed with state Board of Medicine’s department of licensing and regulatory affairs for possible disciplinary action and obtained by Live Action News from pro-life advocate Lynn Mills, details the abortion doctor’s sordid past. In the factual allegations, the document states that Roth was disciplined by the state medical board in 2004 following a complaint that he performed an abortion out of a patient’s home. Another issue came before the Board in 2012 over a complication from a procedure resulting in a fine.

Roth abortion home complaint

The Attorney General has accused Roth with being in possession of controlled substances without lawful authority. According to the AG’s complaint, when police searched Roth’s car they discovered 6 prescription bottles containing an antibiotic prescribed by another medical doctor with the initials AO for several patients as well as large amounts of the pain medicine Fentanyl and a partially used bottle of a drug used for anesthesia. In addition they found medication used for uterine bleeding.

In response to the complaint, Mills called the items found in Roth’s car, “a cocktail for abortion.” She told Live Action News that there are many unanswered questions surrounding this case, “Pro-lifers effectively got this abortionist evicted several times last year. So let’s say that he couldn’t find a place to rent that would allow him to do abortions? We know from his history that he has experience doing them in home settings. Could this have been an option he felt was viable?”

Mills said she suspects Roth was doing clandestine abortions, wondering where he was performing them, “Roth was driving around with what he needed the antibiotics, the anesthesia, the bleed control meds and pain meds. Where’s the bloody pads, the cannulas?” While authorities have not specified why Roth was in possession of the medications, Mills speculated a few possible scenarios such as his performing secret abortions on rich women or even on human trafficking victims in secret locations.

In addition to the medications, the complaint states that police also found “Fifteen specimen jars containing the “products of conception” in the abortionist’s car. Less than a week later, upon searching Roth’s home, police found additional medications of Fentanyl and and 6 full glass vials of Methylergonovine Maleate (medication used for uterine bleeding). Police also discovered that the Fentanyl, which had expired a year earlier, belonged to another physician. In fact, several of the medications found in Roth’s possession were expired and bore the name of to another prescribing physician where Roth “provides coverage” according to the complaint.

The documents states that the license to dispense medications are “location specific” and that medications cannot be stored in places other than where the license allows. Further, state law requires that medications are to be stored in a locked cabinet or room and not in a person’s home or vehicle. The complaint accuses Roth of failing to protect patient’s personal information as well as disposing of “pathological waste” i.e. aborted babies pursuant to state statutes.

The AG accuses Roth of the following:

    Negligence
    Incompetence
    Lack of Good Moral Character
Possessing a controlled substance without lawful authority
    Betrayal of a Professional Confidence

The complaint requires that Roth has 30 days to submit a written response to the charges against him. And, if he cannot show that he is in compliance of all lawful requirements of retention of his license the AG has requested that formal proceedings be “commenced pursuant to the Public Health Code.”

911 Dispatch tied up by abortion doc griping about protesters

In another example of the lack of respect for life a notorious abortion doctor ties up 911 phone lines for over five minutes so he can make a petty call to report protesters at his abortion clinic. Abortionist Jacob Kalo, who owns several abortion clinics in Michigan, is not new to Live Action News readers. Kalo’s lack of concern for the health and safety of others was documented on this site after health officials suspended one of his four abortion facilitates last year.

Now, 911 audio provided by pro-life activist Lynn Mills, reveals that on October 7, 2015 the abortion doctor tied up emergency phone lines for over five minutes to complain about “picketers” forcing the 911 operator to place him on hold at least five times to take real emergency calls.

“My name is doctor Kalo, I’m, the owner of 57, sorry, 6765 Orchard Lake Road. I have a clinic over there. And, there is some picketers over there,” he tells the 911 operator.

Kalo then states that this is the third time he has called that week.

As the 911 dispatcher restates the address, she is interrupted by real emergency call, “One second please,” she says.

“What is the name of the business there?” the 911 operator asks Kalo.

It’s Women’s Center,” the abortionist replies.

Kalo, who has been the subject of pickets for years, tells the emergency dispatcher, “I don’t know if they are allowed to picket or not…but according to the bylaws and the state laws if they want to picket…”

He is then abruptly interrupted so the 911 operator can take ANOTHER emergency call.

When she returns several minutes later, she tells Kalo that the pro-lifers ARE allowed to picket.

But, this is not good enough.

Kalo continues to take valuable time away from 911 by complaining because some of the protesters are sitting in chairs telling the 911 dispatcher, “…its not a picnic place…”

He is interrupted for a THIRD TIME so the 911 operator can put his petty call on hold to take a real emergency call.

“I have another emergency call coming in – one minute,” 911 tells Kalo.

When the dispatcher returns, Kalo tells her the pro-lifers are “not walking” adding “this is not picketing.”

Even after the 911 operator tells the abortionist that she will have an officer go by to “take a look” Kalo persists in taking up valuable time saying, “Let me just tell you something. I don’t want to keep repeating…” he says before being interrupted a FOURTH TIME so the emergency dispatcher can take a real emergency call.

Mr. Kalo we’ll send an officer on over there, okay?” 911 asks as they return to the phone.

And…you guessed it, Kalo (the nagging abortionist) continues to chastise the operator, “Yeah, but I don’t want to do that every day,” he says.

911 patiently tells Kalo, “Sir, the most I can do is send an officer over there, okay?

Kalo replies, “Let me just say one more sentence. Somebody has to talk to the guys organizing all of that and let them explain the law.”

911 again tells the abortion doctor they will send an officer over to his clinic.

Kalo still won’t quit, and continues to talk.

911 tell him again that they are extremely busy and says he can hang up or be put on hold so she can take the FIFTH TIME so she can take another emergency call.

He wanted to be put on hold…and he waits again for the 911 dispatcher to some back to the phone.

The audio ends at that point. But Lynn Mills said that the call continued for several more minutes. According to the police report obtained by Mills, police responded to find two older women sitting in chairs outside Kalo’s abortion clinic.
