Black pro-life representative, “If we protect one facet of African Americans we protect all of them”

repKatrina Jackson Rep. Katrina Jackson a Black Democrat from the state of Louisiana called abortion the genocide of the black race during a legislative committee hearing.

The discussion was over HB388 in the state’s health and welfare committee. The bill provided for requirements of physicians who perform abortions.

Rep Katrina Jackson

I’ve heard it thrown around by the young ladies at the table today, that this protects mostly minority women,” she states.

But, I want to address something. I’m not sure if you are aware but the number one genocide right now in the African-American community, and why we’re becoming a minority of minorities, is because most of our babies are dying in the womb from abortion, did you know that?

When a pro-choice woman took the microphone to address Rep. Jackson the debate got heated. She claimed that African American women did not have the same access to contraception use as higher income (or white) women.

Rep. Katrina Jackson responded, “But were you aware that more African Americans die from abortions than any other illness?

But I don’t want people advocating erroneously for African American women that’s my suggestion. Get all the facts, because I’m an African American woman, and, if we protect, trust me on this, if we protect one facet of African Americans we protect them all of them,” Jackson stated.

Rep Katrina Jackson is not alone in her feelings.

In the early days of Roe, Black women were forcibly sterilized under Eugenics programs across this country.

According to the documentary film, Maafa21, two years after the director of Iowa Planned Parenthood had publicly attacked the state’s Eugenics Board for not approving enough sterilizations, a bill was introduced in the Iowa legislature to legalize abortion.

Despite having the support of both the State Republican Party and the State Democratic Party as well as strong backing from the governor, the bill would be defeated almost single-handedly by the only African-American in the Iowa Legislature.

That woman was Iowa State Rep. June Franklin, also a Democrat and in 1971, she stated, “Proponents…have argued this bill is for blacks and the poor who want abortions and can’t afford one. This is the phoniest and most preposterous argument of all. Because I represent the inner-city where the majority of blacks and poor live and I challenge anyone here to show me a waiting line of either blacks or poor whites who are wanting an abortion.” .

“They do feel and there is fear among them that this bill is meant for them. They feel this is the first step down the road to forced sterilization, euthanasia and genocide.”

“They fear, and I tend to agree, that there are a few social workers who in their zest and zeal to keep casts down, are just sick enough to force poor blacks and whites to have abortions.”

“And, I also have a fear that there may be those among us here who feel that this bill would cut down out welfare rolls..The Blacks fear this bill and relate it to genocide and the first step down the road to fascism. I have always fought for everyone to have equal rights and to be able to share in the good things in life…I have also fought to protect those who are defenseless.”

“I feel we must redirect our priorities and make human life, instead of our greed for property, the number one priority in this state and nation”

Even though years apart, Rep Katinra Jackson and June Franklin both know how abortion devastates the black community.

According to the most recent reports published by the State of Louisiana, Department of Health and Hospitals, there were 8870 total abortions reported to the state in 2010.

White women received 3,019 abortions and non-whites received 4,781 with 1,070 unknown ethnicity. So that means that almost 54% of abortions reported that year were on non-white women.

In addition, abortion has recently killed two black women while the media remains silent.
