NARAL abortion rights head “I’m a pretty good faker”

An interview with Ilyse Hogue, in Cosmo quotes the NARAL president as saying, “There was a lot I didn’t know when I started. I’m a pretty good faker, but I would come out of meetings and be like, “I don’t know what that acronym means,” or realize that I had nodded my head at the wrong moment, when I should have been shaking it.”

Okay- that statement is so loaded I won’t even address it except to say that most of the ardent abortion rights activists seem to be “faking it” with their facts- that is.

Hogue continues, “I think I made a lot of people nervous when I came in. The observation as a newcomer to anything is that some of the cultural norms don’t make sense. It was a challenge for me to say, “Why aren’t we using the word abortion?” or, “Why don’t we not give candidates a pass when they just check the pro-choice box but actually show them why it’s good to talk about it?” or, “Why don’t we point out that abortion is a medical procedure, and the values that drive us to fight for safe and legal abortion services are basic human values that are shared by a lot of people — freedom, equality, self-determination?” I said a lot of things that probably sounded naïve, and I got told a lot early on, “We’ve tried that before.” I respect that. What I never want to do is try something that’s been tried before without the lessons learned by previous attempts. But I also don’t want a leader who is not able to recognize that times change, and trying something with the wisdom of past attempts at a different moment can have radically different effects.”

Later in the interview, the woman who heads the organization which believes that sucking or dismembering unborn babies is a “right” said this, “at the end of the day, there is an intangible that we can tune into to instruct us about what’s right or wrong. If you trust it, it will lead you down the right path. Be willing to take risks. At the end of the day, we have so little to lose if we show how compassionate we are.”

Compassionate?

Wait a minute here- did Hogue just imply that promoting abortion is compassionate ?

It sounded that way to me – but – then again Hogue’s a pretty good faker!
