Obeying orders to bring about Abortion’s “final solution”

As I watched the 7th Center for Medical Progress video exposing Planned Parenthood’s Mengele-like baby organ harvesting operation I almost threw up.

Holly ODonnell Planned Parenthood heart face organs abortion

The horrific description of former StemExpress fetal procurement tech, Holly O’Donnell describing how she was lured into cutting through the face of an intact unborn child whose heart was beating to get brain tissue made me literally sick.

And she has one of her instruments and she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think,” O’Donnell says in the video.

I have written my views of previous CMP vids here, here, and here where I address the hypocrisy of outrage over taking the baby parts rather than the baby’s life.

But, as I watched O’Donnell, who is obviously disturbed by the grisly experimentation she was involved in, I had to ask myself why she would obey such orders?

O’Donnell was instructed to cut “through the face” of a baby whose heart is beating, in order to procure the brain tissue. She emotionally said, “No, I don’t want to do this.” But then, she did.

What has become of our culture that allows a person with a conscience to so easily betray it?

O’Donnell is not alone in her obedience to orders.

In May of 2013, abortionist Kermit Gosnell was found guilty of murdering three babies born alive in an abortion clinic. The 72-year-old abortionist stabbed the infants in the back of the neck in his Philadelphia House of Horrors abortion facility.

Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore told jurors

“The standard practice here was to slay babies. That’s what they did…Staff went along with the routine because they were nearly as desperate as the women, she said.

“They looked just like regular babies,” Employee Ashley Baldwin said. Baldwin said one baby was so big that Gosnell joked that “this baby is going to walk me home.”

Eichman GuiltyIn 1961, an Israeli court found Adolf Eichmann guilty of massacring Jews under the German Nazi regime in what many called a central figure of Hitler’s “final solution.”

The former SS colonel said he did not feel he was guilty but was merely obeying orders calling himself a “tool for his superiors” in a “bad regime.”

The dead would have weighed on my conscience if I had given the order for killing. But I did not,” he said in his defense.

The Nazi leader was adamant of one thing, he was acting on orders he had received telling the court he was accustomed to blind obedience, saying that he would have killed his own father had he been ordered to.

He said the plan to exterminate Jews was not his idea but Adolf Hitler’s and he was only an assistant in helping carry it out.

LIKE THE NAZI PRISON GUARDS, Gosnell’s employees said they only did as they were told:

Shockingly, others within the abortion industry have used similar excuses to justify the killing of babies both inside and out of the womb.

Lynda Williams Gosnell

• Lynda Williams, 44, of Wilmington, said Gosnell taught her how to flip the body of the baby over and snip its neck with a pair of scissors to ensure “fetal demise.” Williams also testified that she followed Gosnell’s orders one time, when Gosnell was away either running, swimming or working at a clinic in Delaware, and took a baby that was delivered in a toilet and snipped its neck. “It jumped, the arm,” she said, showing the jury by raising her arm. Williams told investigators she only snipped a neck the one time, “because it gave me the creeps.” “I only do what I’m told to do,” she told the jury. “What I was told to do was snip their neck.”

• Lynda Williams also responded the same way when asked about seeing Gosnell cut the necks of babies who were delivered before abortion procedures, admitting after reviewing earlier statements that she had seen Gosnell do this at least 30 times. Williams said she asked Gosnell about the baby that moved, and said Gosnell told her it was just an “involuntary response” and a “last breath” because it was “already dead” due to drugs that had been administered earlier. “I never knew it was murder,” Williams told investigators and repeated to the jury.

Gosnell employee MORTON

• Adrienne Moton , “I kept doing whatever I was told,” told the jury.

• Sherry West, “I felt a loyalty to him because he had been my doctor for so long,” West testified.

Gosnell 052813_hampton_600

• Elizabeth Hampton – During the FBI investigation of the clinic, Hampton said that she wasn’t “totally truthful” with investigators because she was scared. She was later arrested for perjury in August 2010 and pleaded guilty. After the investigation, Elizabeth Hampton said that Gosnell ordered the employees to clean and scrub the clinic. The first floor was repainted. When asked why he did so, Hampton replied “If he said to do something, we did it. We didn’t question him.”

• ASHLEY BALDWIN: “They looked just like regular babies,” Baldwin said. Baldwin said one baby was so big that Gosnell joked that “this baby is going to walk me home.” She said the joke bothered her and she talked to her mother about it. Baldwin’s mother, however, was also a Gosnell employee. Tina Baldwin had worked there since 2001. Ashley Baldwin said she assisted Gosnell in abortions, applying pressure to the mother’s abdomen, handing the doctor instruments and equipment. She said she also saw Gosnell use scissors to “snip” the neck of newborns who were moving after the procedure. Although she sometimes felt uneasy about what she saw, Baldwin said, Gosnell always had an explanation: “He told me that’s how it was supposed to go.”

During the trial, an Associated Press reporter described Gosnell as an “elegant man . . . who smiled softly.” How could he smile? How could he be serene at his piano? How could he eat in the midst of squalor and death? How could he live with himself?

Within days if the Gosnell story breaking open, the pro-life group Life Dynamics located in Denton, Texas, released an interview with three former abortion clinic workers which prove the Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, recently convicted of murder, is not an anomaly.

Just as in the Gosnell case, abortion is so prevalent, abortion clinic workers do not know that killing them after they survive is illegal:

As I pointed out in a previous blog post, those who participate in and accept abortion are like the Germans during the Nazi Holocaust.

Writing in The Guardian, John Ezard’s review of the book Backing Hitler reads this way in part:

They knew concentration camps were full of Jewish people who were stigmatized as sub-human and race-defilers. They knew that these, like other groups and minorities, were being killed out of hand.

They knew that Adolf Hitler had repeatedly forecast the extermination of every Jew on German soil. They knew these details because they had read about them. They knew because the camps and the measures which led up to them had been prominently and proudly reported step by step in thousands of officially-inspired German media articles and posters…

Dr_Hans_W_Muench_(SS) Dr. Hans Munch was an SS research pathologist at a Nazi institute near Auschwitz. He refutes the claim that the Nazis who participated in the murders of Jews were just “obeying orders.”

“Nothing was going to make me do it,” he said.

Adding, “No one in the SS was forced to do anything against his will.

Out of the 44 Nazi doctors tried after the war, Munch was the only one acquitted.

Asked if he was fully aware of the gassing being carried out at the concentration camp, he replied, “Yes I was. One was always aware of the smell of burning. Everyone for miles around knew about it.” He noted that at times he could hear the death moans of the victims, “ A sound like no other” he said.

“Very soft” he added.

In an article published by the Montreal Gazette, Munch described Josef Mengele in a way that was so ironically close to what we hear coming from Planned Parenthood defenders today:

Mengele saw the gassings as the only rational solution and argued that as the prisoners were going to be gassed anyway, there was no reason not to use them for medical experiments.

Think about it.

Communist anarchists to support Planned Parenthood as baby harvesting operation is exposed

Posted in Stop Patriarchy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 18, 2015 by saynsumthn

This week pro-lifers are planning a national protest at various Planned Parenthood facilities to draw attention to the abortion clinic chain’s gruesome baby parts harvesting operation.

But, according to some online threats, they won’t be alone.

The question is, will the counter protests in support of Planned Parenthood actually backfire?

Stop Patriarchy 201555179557233_n

The August 22, 2015 protest Planned Parenthood event has been organized in several cities nationwide and the list is growing daily.

But, the radical abortion rights group, Stop Patriarchy, has called for counter protests.

From their Facebook page:

STop Patriarchy PP Protests

Stop Patriarchy is not new to Saynsumthn readers. They are admittedly an anarchist and communist group and have been considered an outcast among rank and file pro-choice organizations. But that did not stop the Washington Times from quoting them, go figure.

It wasn’t that long ago that, Texans for Reproductive Justice published a Letter of Concern, opposing “Stop Patriarchy.”

In addition, Katie Speak who organizes abortion protests was very outspoken about the group saying clearly that Stop Patriarchy was “not a feminist group” and accused them of “co-opting of Civil Rights language, diversion of funds from organizations doing real work, disregard for the needs of local, grassroots organizers in (especially) red states.”

On her blog the pro-abortion organizer continued to blast SP saying, “We cannot, as a movement, brush off divisive, dishonest, self-serving groups simply because they “aren’t all that big yet.” Stop Patriarchy is gaining a foothold in mainstream and progressive outlets all the while not disclosing that their goal is to promote a patriarch and his Revolutionary Communist Party. I want to discredit them now, before we spend the rest of our organizing lives competing with them for resources and messaging. You can help: support Expose Stop Patriarchy.”

Having this group show up in support of Planned Parenthood while pro-lifers simultaneously point to their grisly Mengele-like experiments will only play into the image of Planned Parenthood as a fringe organization with extreme ideas and practices that disgust a majority of Americans.

According to Stop Patriarchy: Fetal tissue is just tissue. Women are full human beings!

This radical anarchist group agrees with Planned Parenthood doctors, like Deborah Nucatola who told Center for Medical Progress investigators how she will crush above and crush below an unborn child to salvage the specific baby organ desired by Planned Parenthood. They also agree with Planned Parenthood doctor Mary Gatter who admitted that she would modify the abortion procedure, to perform a “less crunchy” technique to obtain more “whole specimens” then joked about wanting a Lamborghini.

Stop Patriarchy’s leader, Sunsara Taylor, is in agreement with Planned Parenthood’s president Cecile Richards in saying that an unborn child is not a “person” until birth.

Richards made that exact same suggestion recently ( read here.)

STop Patriarchy PP Protests 2

From Stop Patriarchy’s website:

On August 22, counter-protest the anti-abortion actions against Planned Parenthood. Take back the moral high ground for abortion rights. Change the terms of this fight: The fight over abortion has never been about babies. It has always been about controlling women.

Take back the moral high ground and support Planned Parenthood, really???

Stop Patriarchy has been trying to shut down many effort to expose abortion. They routinely block traffic wearing their out-dated bloodied garb while waving coat hangers.

If that doesn’t work, they will shout and scream and try to intimidate families, women and others who dare to object to child killing and it’s toll on women and babies.

They have also been aggressively disruptive to Black pro-life activists even vowing to “Ferguson” their events. One can only imagine what that means.

Stop Patriarchy’s tired rhetoric claiming, “Fetuses are NOT babies. Abortion is NOT murder,” is simply not resonating with the general public. But that will not stop them from yelling, screaming, and shoving their views down the throats of America.

STop Patriarchy PP Protests 3

While Stop Patriarchy has only 6 chapters nationwide, vowing to support Planned Parenthood in New York City, Seattle, Albuquerque, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Ohio, the protest Planned Parenthood website reveals pro-lifers outnumber them many times over.

Late term abortion doc expressed ethical questions about way aborted fetal tissue is procured

Posted in Aborted Baby Body Parts, Planned Parenthood sells aborted baby parts with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 20, 2015 by saynsumthn

A late term abortionist once admitted that he has ethical questions about the way fetal tissue is procured stating that he did not want to offer women the option to donate their late term aborted babies for research because pressure to change his procedures to “procure” the baby parts.

Warren Hern2

Abortionist Warren Hern, who operates the Boulder Abortion Clinic in Colorado made the statements in a 1989 interview with the New York Times.

Warren Hern late term abortion clinic

Hern, who once got upset that the BBC called aborted children “unborn child” and offers women private burial services, uses the abortion method of dilation and evacuation (D+E).

According to the article

Hern said that although he favors the use of fetal tissue in research, he has lingering ethical questions about the way it is procured.

He said that a couple of years ago he was repeatedly asked to supply the tissue by a group that has since stopped procuring fetal tissue. ”I finally started throwing their letters away unanswered,” Dr. Hern said.

Warren Hern aborted baby research fetal tissure

He said the group suggested that he vary the amount of suction he used in abortions, which bothered him.

I probably makes no difference to the woman, but I’m reluctant to do anything that would add length or discomfort to the abortion process,” he said.

In addition, Hern told the New York Times that an overriding reason why he does not want to procure fetal tissue is the ‘‘unbelievable harassment” he gets from “anti-abortion” groups.

Although Hern had ethical questions about “procuring” aborted babies for medical research he had no qualms killing those same children.

Warren Hern third trimester abortion

In fact, Yahoo Parenting once highlighted a woman who claimed that she paid an abortion doc $25K to “euthanize” a 36 week unborn baby.

The article then names Hern’s clinic as the place where the woman killed her child, writing:

It was a four-day procedure, and I had to have it done by Friday, when I would be 36 weeks pregnant. There is no doctor in the country who performs abortions after 36 weeks.”

25K abortion

Then she added, “You have to show up with $25,000.

She continued:

“So I called the Boulder Abortion Clinic in Colorado. We scheduled everything we needed to… It was a very, very difficult day. Euthanizing the baby is, obviously, a very hard thing to do. After the injection, he asked how I was feeling, and I just said, “I feel so sad. I’m going to miss her.”

Read more on that here.

This week a top Planned Parenthood abortion doctor was caught on tape trafficking in aborted baby body parts. The trade appears to be something that happens in other abortion clinics as well.

In fact, the harvesting of aborted baby parts is not new as evidenced by that same 1989 New York Times article:

privately financed research, often involving transplants of fetal tissue into animals and people, is carried out at places like the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and Hana Biologics, a company in Alameda, Calif.

In 1989, the Times reported that the largest supplier of fetal tissue was the Institute for the Advancement of Medicine, in Effington, Pa.

James W. Bardsley, president of the institute, said he provides scientists with 300 to 600 specimens a month from 150 to 300 fetuses,” the Times wrote.

Bardsley told the Times that he sends employees to abortion clinics three to five days a week to process fetal tissue and pays the abortion facilities rental fees of $500 to $600 a month when his employees are at clinics for several days a week and $1,000 a month when they are there every day.

According to that 1989 article:

Another leading supplier is Dr. Thomas Shepard, a professor of pediatrics, obstetrics and environmental health at the University of Washington in Seattle, who is supported with Federal money to collect about 600 fetuses a year…estimated that he has obtained about 10,000 fetuses in the past 26 years.

The New York Times continues:

But, Dr. Caplan [Dr. Arthur Caplan, a co-director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Minnesota] said, about 90 percent of researchers get fetal tissue through private arrangements with abortion clinics or gynecologists. He added that it is not known how much fetal tissue these researchers use.

One indication that women do not always give informed consent before their fetuses are used in research is Mr. Bardsley’s experience. About a year ago, he said, he began insisting that clinics and hospitals that supplied him with fetal tissue ask the women first if they wanted to donate the fetal tissue. About half of Mr. Bardsley’s suppliers refused and no longer provide him with tissue, he said.

Some of the clinics were just too busy,” Mr. Bardsley said. ‘‘They did not want to initiate a change like that. They thought it would be too much of a burden.” Many hospitals, he said, ”did not want to have anything to do with changing their consent policies,” adding, ”They felt that would bring it to the attention of the patients and that would be bad public relations.”

Abortionist James J. Parks, who was once accused by another abortion doctor of assembling an old fashioned meat grinder and using it to grind the fetuses in his clinic, told the NY Times that he supplies fetal tissue to researchers at the University of Colorado.

Curtis Stover Meat Grinder Affidavit

The New York Times article confirms the fact that manipulating abortion procedures, a point made by Dr. Deborah Nucatola, is nothing new.

In the Planned Parenthood video, you can hear Nucatola say how she will crush above or below in order to preserve the specific organ from the suffering unborn baby she is in the process of ripping apart in the womb.

According to the 1989 article, Bardsley admitted that he looks for abortion clinics or doctors who use particular abortion methods in the second trimester.

They cannot inject the fetus with saline, urea or other substances to kill it before the abortion because then the fetal tissue would not be usable. Instead, the abortion must be done by dilation and evacuation, in which the doctor essentially pulls the fetus out of the anesthesized woman.

The article continues:

To get usable tissue during the first trimester of pregnancy, Mr. Bardsley encourages doctors to use ultrasound to find the fetus in the woman’s uterus and then to use special suction abortion techniques, varying the amount of suction ”to try to trap the embryo in the catheter,” he said.

A Florida doctor…said he has procured fetuses for Mr. Bardsley by using a suction abortion technique he developed that allows him to extract intact first-trimester fetuses 80 percent of the time. Abortions using this method take 15 to 25 minutes instead of the usual 5 to 7 minutes, the doctor said.

The unnamed abortionist admits that the procedure used to obtain the fetal body parts takes extra time than doing a regular abortion would.

Although the term “tissue” can involve a number of pathological or biological specimens, the recently release Planned Parenthood undercover video by the Center for Medical Progress showed that the largest abortion chain was operating a grisly ABORTED BABY body parts operation.

A glance at additional websites reveal that the practice may not be isolated.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast’s website:

And at Planned Parenthood Southwest and Central Florida, Inc.’s website we learn that minor can donate “tissue samples.”

Planned Parenthood Southwest minors aborted baby body parts tissue donation

While oftentimes a minor’s health care decisions are made by a parent or guardian, there are certain situations where minors can make their own healthcare decisions independent of parental or guardian knowledge or consent. Such situations are heavily regulated by law and include minors who have become emancipated, minors who are donating blood or tissue samples and minors who are independently seeking examination and treatment for a sexually transmissible disease.

Ben Carson on Planned Parenthood vid: we drifted far in terms of our humanity

Posted in 2016 Presidential Race, Ben Carson, Planned Parenthood sells aborted baby parts with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on July 17, 2015 by saynsumthn

Presidential candidate and Pediatric Nero-Surgeon, Ben Carson spoke out on the Planned Parenthood video showing that they harvest the body parts of aborted children.

Carson was on the Megyn Kelly show, Thursday evening and said that the benefits of fetal research has been over promised and under delivered and that there’s nothing that can’t be done without the fetal tissue.

He said America has been so calloused to the value of human life that a lot of people do not realize how shocking this video is.

What’s really disturbing, is the fact, that we have become so calloused that a lot of people don’t even realize that this is so shocking. To see the callousness with which we are treating human life,” Carson said.

Ben Carson Megyn Kelly

Carson noted that a human being inside of the mother’s womb is much more sophisticated than the animal and snail life that Americans seek to protect.

A little developing baby is just a sight to behold…How can you believe that that’s just an irrelevant mass if cells? And that’s what they want you to believe, when in fact it is a human being,” he stated.

Carson claims that we are destroying the natural relationship that a mother should have with her unborn baby.

We’ve created a dichotomy in what should be an almost sacred relationship between that mother and that baby,” he said.

And the mother is the protector of that baby and we’ve distorted things to the point where people believe that if the mother can’t kill the baby than anybody whose advocating that is an enemy of women. How can we be so foolish as to believe such a thing?”

Carson said that America’s outrage at seeing the Planned Parenthood abortionist casually speaking about how she will crush above and below a human baby in the womb in order to harvest organs from the child is like taking a cold fish and slapping you in the face when you are falling asleep.

And you begin to recognize how far we have drifted in terms of our humanity,” Carson said.

Planned Parenthood Vs. CMP statements on selling aborted baby body parts

They were being called Mengele and Gosnell after Americans viewed this video:

And now Planned Parenthood has come out of the shadows to issue a statement on the video showing one of their doctors selling aborted baby parts.

Planned Parenthood tweets

The abortion giant has issued a statement on the baby body parts video scandal:

PP Statement on Vid July 14 2015

Statement from Planned Parenthood on New Undercover Video

Statement from Eric Ferrero, Vice President of Communications, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“In health care, patients sometimes want to donate tissue to scientific research that can help lead to medical breakthroughs, such as treatments and cures for serious diseases. Women at Planned Parenthood who have abortions are no different. At several of our health centers, we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health care provider does — with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards. There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood. In some instances, actual costs, such as the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers, are reimbursed, which is standard across the medical field.

“A well funded group established for the purpose of damaging Planned Parenthood’s mission and services has promoted a heavily edited, secretly recorded videotape that falsely portrays Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research. Similar false accusations have been put forth by opponents of abortion services for decades. These groups have been widely discredited and their claims fall apart on closer examination, just as they do in this case.”

PP Statement

In response, the Center for Medical Progress issued the following:

Center for Medical Progress statement

CMP Statement in Reply to Planned Parenthood’s Cover-Up of Baby Parts Sales

Planned Parenthood makes two key admissions in their statement today: 1) aborted fetal parts are harvested at their clinics, and 2) money is exchanged in connection with this. They also tell several lies: 1) That proper consent is obtained from patients, 2) That Planned Parenthood does not make money off the body parts, and 3) that everything is legal.

    Stem Express Planned Parenthood

The Center for Medical Progress has obtained an advertisement to Planned Parenthood clinics ( from StemExpress, LLC, one of the major purchasers of Planned Parenthood’s aborted fetal tissue. This flyer advertises 4 different times the financial benefit that Planned Parenthood clinics can receive from supplying fetal tissue, with the words: “Financially Profitable,” “Financial Profits,” “financial benefit to your clinic,” “fiscal growth of your own clinic.” The advertisement carries an endorsement from Planned Parenthood Medical Director Dr. Dorothy Furgerson.

None of this is standard across the mainstream medical field, but it is standard across Planned Parenthood’s insular and unaccountable abortion field.

Imagine if a mere statement issued by any other group would be enough to call off the dogs in the news media?

Newsweek Planned Parenthood vid

In the case of Planned Parenthood whether it was their racist foundings, their covering of child sexual abuse – their Medicaid fraud– their BDSM and sexual themes directed at children, their killing of a Black women – whatever it is- the media stands by their side.

Even big name politicians like Hillary Clinton love Planned Parenthood have been been awarded by the abortion giant.

The question is when will the American people say enough is enough !

Aborted Baby Parts Harvesting Life Dynamics investigation 2000

Life Dynamics, a national pro-life organization in Denton, Texas exposed the Marketing of aborted baby parts harvested for organs in 2000.

Their complete investigation is available here.

Or on their website at

Then in March of 2000 20/20 did a piece about the sale of aborted baby parts:

Mark Crutcher, president of Life Dynamics discusses the Baby Parts investigation on his show Life Talk.

The full transcript of Chris Wallace’s report from the March 8, 2000 edition of ABC’s 20/20:

CONNIE CHUNG: Now, a story we guarantee most of you have never heard before. The subject is highly charged and controversial. Behind the scenes of some promising medical research, big money is being made from the sale of fetal body parts.

Chief correspondent Chris Wallace has been investigating this story. Chris?

CHRIS WALLACE: Connie, our hidden camera investigation has found evidence that some businessmen are trafficking in fetuses. One has even put out a price list. And there are claims that some are selling fetuses that women have not even given for research. Here’s what can happen, when something that is supposed to be used to spur medical breakthroughs, is used instead to make money.

WALLACE (voice-over) It’s a moment too painful to imagine: after getting radiation treatments for cancer, Cindy Smith – a mother of five – learned she was pregnant with twins.

: They basically told me that my children were dying inside me; that I was the only thing keeping them living.

WALLACE: Cindy decided to end her pregnancy. She says her only comfort came from signing this consent form – giving the fetuses to medical researchers looking into cures for terrible diseases.

SMITH: What I wanted to do was – was make something positive out of a horrible situation.

WALLACE: What she didn’t know is that this man would be making money off her twins.

DR. MILES JONES, OPENING LINES: If you have a guy that’s desperate for – let’s say, a heart – then he’ll pay you whatever you ask.

WALLACE: His name is Dr. Miles Jones, and he says he can make big bucks selling human fetuses to researchers.

JONES: Let’s say someone needs feet. Feet are real common. They’re – they’re not hard to get.

WALLACE: A 20/20 hidden camera investigation has found a thriving industry, in which aborted fetuses women donate to help medical research are being marketed for hundreds – even thousands of dollars.

We showed what we found undercover to Arthur Caplan, director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics.

: That’s trading in body parts. There’s no doubt about it.

WALLACE (on-camera): Turning human fetuses into a commodity?

CAPLAN: Into a product.

WALLACE (voice-over): There’s a demand for fetal tissue, because doctors believe it may be the key to medical breakthroughs – cures for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease; diabetes and other illnesses. Some researchers use fetal cells; others need whole organs or limbs.

WALLCE (on-camera): But no one on either side of the abortion debate wants fetal research to become an incentive for abortions – so laws have been passed to draw a clear line. A woman must decide to have an abortion before she’s approached to donate the fetus; abortions can’t be altered to get better specimens; and above all, tissue can’t be sold for profit. Despite all that, some businessmen have slipped in and turned human fetuses into dollars.

DEAN ALBERTY: This is purely for profit. Everything was about money.

WALLACE: Dean Alberty worked for two companies that acted as middle men – getting the fetuses from abortion clinics and shipping tissue to researchers.

ALBERTY: When I got the fetus, I’d already have a checklist telling me what specific organs they were looking for.

WALLACE: The law allows tissue companies to recover their costs. This government agency charges a hundred dollars per shipment. But take a look at what one private company is demanding: Opening Lines put out this price list – $325 for a spinal cord; $550 for a reproductive organ; $999 for a brain. Alberty says he helped put together the price list.

eye optic nerveOrder-20

WALLACE (on-camera): Is there any way to justify these prices?

ALBERTY: No, there is not.

WALLACE: So what does this price represent?

ALBERTY: That represents greed.

WALLACE (voice-over): Who runs Opening Lines? Dr. Miles Jones, the Missouri pathologist whose company handled Cindy’s fetuses. Last year, Jones not only mailed out the price list, but also this brochure.

WALLACE (on-camera): ‘Fresh fetal tissue harvested and shipped to your specifications where and when you need it.’
ALBERTY: That’s correct.

DR. JONES: Pleased to meet you.

: Nice to meet you.

WALLACE (voice-over): We wanted to find out for ourselves how these companies do business. So, posing as a prospective investor, a 20/20 producer met with Dr. Jones, who wanted to talk over dinner.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE PRODUCER: What does a brain go for? What does a kidney or liver go for?

DR. JONES: It’s market force. It’s, what can you sell it for?

WALLACE: Over lobster bisque and roast duck, Dr. Jones explained the business of selling human fetuses.

DR. JONES: We had projections of $50,000 a week. And you know, some weeks you can hit that, and some weeks you can’t. It’s just a matter of being able to match supply and demand.

WALLACE: Dr. Jones said the average specimen costs him just $50, plus overhead – but that he charges an average of $250. The law only talks about recovering costs. But on a single fetus, Jones said he can make $2,500.

DR. JONES: That one fetus – the cost of procuring it is the same – whether you get one kidney or you get two kidneys; a lung; a brain; a heart. It’s the same cost that you’ve put into it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE PRODUCER: But you keep charging?

DR. JONES: Each researcher gets charged.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE PRODUCER: And each time, that’s just money in the bank?

: Mmm-hmm.

CAPLAN: It’s flat-out buying and selling, It’s flat-out profiteering. It’s flat-out saying, ‘I’m going to charge you whatever you’re going to pay me.’

DR. JONES: You can’t kill the golden goose. But you can certainly keep it well-fed, and it will lay lots of eggs for you.

WALLACE (on-camera): A human fetus as a ‘golden goose.’ I know you’ve been studying this business a long time, but does that shock even you?

CAPLAN: That kind of blatant – ‘I’m going to get the maximum value out of mining a fetus,’ is – is – it’s shocking.

SMITH: Just from a human standpoint, that – that’s horrific.

WALLACE (voice-over): When we told Cindy Smith about Dr. Jones, she also was upset.

SMITH: I did not donate that thinking ever that someone was going to profit. And that just really bothers me, because that’s not what I intended at all.

WALLACE: Alberty says some tissue companies went even further to boost their revenue. He says both companies he worked for – Opening Lines; and this firm, Anatomic Gift Foundation, or AGF – pressured him to get as much tissue as possible; and at times, even told him to take it from fetuses women had not donated for research.

ALBERTY: Miles told me, if they’re not looking; they’re not looking. Why don’t you grab that pancreas? Even though it wasn’t consented for.

WALLACE (on-camera): And did you do it?

ALBERTY: Yes, I did.

WALLACE (voice-over): That’s not all. Alberty alleges that abortions were altered to get better tissue. He says this clinic in Overland Park, Kansas normally did early abortions with a suction machine. But when the fetus was being donated, he says this special syringe was used – which experts say puts women through longer, more uncomfortable abortions. Where did the clinic get the syringes?

20_20 - 10_57_04 AM

WALLACE (off-camera): AGF was supplying these special syringes to the clinics?

ROSS CAPPS: That’s correct.

WALLACE (voice-over): Ross Capps also worked for AGF. He and nurses, who worked at the clinic, confirm that women donating fetuses were given different abortions.

WALLACE (on-camera): If the woman didn’t consent, they wouldn’t use the special syringe?

CAPPS: No. They only used the special syringe if they knew I wanted the specimen.

WALLACE (voice-over): Again, the law says abortions can’t be altered to get tissue. Alberty – who says he was originally pro-choice – was finally so disturbed by what he saw that he contacted Life Dynamics, a Texas pro-life group that paid him $10,000 to be an informant, while he continued to work in the tissue business. But Alberty denies making up stories to push a political agenda.

WALLACE (on-camera): Why should people believe you? Why shouldn’t we believe that there are just some things that you’ve said that are part of this movement?

ALBERTY: I will stand behind my words until I die. I will go in front of Congress, if I have to, and testify under oath.
WALLACE (voice-over): But Alberty’s allegations are only part of the story. Some of the most troubling evidence we found came from our undercover conversation with Dr. Jones. Here he explains how easy it is to talk a woman into donating a fetus.

JONES: You can do something that’s got all the legal mumbo-jumbo in it, and they’ll sign it anyway. If you have someone trained to ask properly, you can get 80 – 90-percent consent rates.

WALLACE: His dream, he said, is to run his own clinic in Mexico, where he could get a greater supply of fetal tissue by offering cheaper abortions.

DR. JONES: If you can control the flow, it’s probably the equivalent of the invention of the assembly line.
WALLACE: We showed Dr. Jones’ comments to Congressman Thomas Bliley, chairman of the House Commerce Committee.

REP. THOMAS BLILEY: Terrible – just absolutely terrible.

WALLACE: After hearing allegations of the illegal activity, Bliley’s committee is now investigating four companies – and he says has found evidence that tissue is being sold for profit.

BLILEY: We are interested that the people who do this recover their legitimate costs. It appears that it’s more than that – that it comes down to trafficking in tissue parts – in body parts.

WALLACE: Bliley is pro-life, but even the most ardent pro-choice advocates – like Planned Parenthood president, Gloria Feldt – are disturbed by what we found.

It seems inappropriate – totally inappropriate. Where there is wrongdoing, it should be prosecuted; and people who are doing that kind of – of thing should be – should be brought to justice.

WALLACE: We wanted to talk with some of these fetal tissue businessmen. When we called Dr. Jones for an interview, he hung up on us. But James Bartsly of AGF said his non-profit company recently got out of the business. He maintained his fees, which were lower than Jones’, were reasonable, and that AGF never asked anyone to take tissue without consent. And he suggested Alberty is angry because AGF sued him over a business dispute.

WALLACE (on-camera): Did AGF ever encourage doctors to alter the way they did abortions to get specimens?

JAMES BARTSLY, ANATOMIC GIFT FOUNDATION: No – absolutely not. First of all, that would be illegal.

WALLACE (voice-over): But wasn’t AGF supplying those special syringes to get better tissue?

BARTSLY: Yeah. That’s – that’s – that’s – that’s the logical conclusion that you would draw. I don’t believe that was altering the abortion technique.

WALLACE (on-camera): Doesn’t this special syringe add as much as 15 minutes to the length of the abortion?

BARTSLY: I don’t know.

WALLACE: Oh, sure you did.

BARTSLY: In some cases – perhaps. It takes longer.

WALLACE (voice-over): Bartsly later sent us this letter – saying the Kansas clinic already used syringes, and that AGF provided special ones just to keep tissue sterile. The clinic finally severed its ties with AGF; and later, Opening Lines. But that came too late for Cindy Smith. All she thinks about is what happened to her twins.

SMITH: It’s just wrong for someone to be making money off the dead. I didn’t want somebody to profit off of my heartache. It makes me almost feel like the one good thing I did really wasn’t that good after all.

WALLACE (on-camera): Tomorrow, a congressional subcommittee will hold a hearing on fetal tissue trafficking. And Dean Alberty, the whistleblower from inside the business, will be the star witness. As for Dr. Miles Jones, he’s been subpoenaed to testify, but has not responded. Investigators say if he fails to show up, Jones could be held in contempt of Congress. Charlie?

CHARLES GIBSON: Chris, if there are laws on the books on this subject, why is it still going on? Why hasn’t something been done?

WALLACE: It’s a question we kept asking in this investigation. We couldn’t find anyone in the federal government enforcing those laws – which is why tomorrow’s hearing is such an important first step.

GIBSON: All right, Chris Wallace thank you very much.

NM business owner arrested in body parts case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Police in Albuquerque arrested a businessman on fraud charges in a gruesome case in which body parts that were supposed to be cremated and returned to families turned up in plastic bins in a delivery truck in Kansas.

Albuquerque police on Thursday identified two men and a woman whose remains were discovered among six heads and numerous other human body parts in the truck at a Kansas medical waste facility. Bio Care Southwest owner Paul Montano, 31, was arrested late Wednesday at his office on three counts of fraud and was being held on $100,000 bond.

Sealed plastic bags containing the heads and body parts – apparently dismembered with a chain saw or other coarse cutting instrument – were found last week in 12 large red plastic tubs inside a delivery truck at a Stericycle Inc. facility in Kansas City, Kan. The tubs had shipping labels from The Learning Center, which is affiliated with Bio Care.

Bio Care receives donated bodies and harvests organs and other parts, which it sells for medical research. Bodies are stored in refrigerated units until donated organs are returned, then Bio Care sends the remains for cremation and gives the ashes to the families, according to the affidavit. The company has a contract with Stericycle to dispose of any leftover medical waste.

Authorities there said Stericycle disposes of waste such as operating room debris or syringes but doesn’t incinerate major body parts.

Montano said Tuesday his company wasn’t involved in the body parts found in Kansas. He did not return several messages left by The Associated Press on Wednesday, and the main telephone number that had been listed on the company’s Web site had been disconnected.

After his 83-year-old father died of a stroke in September, Chuck Hines of Bosque Farms, N.M., entrusted Bio Care to harvest his organs for science and research. They sent back a sealed box with what Hines was told were all his father’s cremated remains.

Hines memorialized his father at a simple gathering of friends at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, an event the elder Hines helped organize decades ago.

But Hines found out late Wednesday that some of his father’s remains were found in the delivery truck.

“You know, you get a box of ashes, you don’t know if it’s all there. You assume it is,” Hines said Wednesday, before police say they told him his father’s remains were found. Hines didn’t respond to phone messages left Thursday.

Robert Noblin, owner of Riverside Funeral Home in Belen, N.M., where Hines learned about Bio Care, said he could not comment at length about the matter because of the investigation.

But he said his company had worked with Bio Care before.

“Unfortunately, I think many funeral homes and families alike have been misled,” Noblin said.

Police also identified the remains of Jacqueline Marie Snyder, 42, of Albuquerque, who died of a methadone overdose, and Harold Dillard, whose hometown and cause of death weren’t given.

Snyder’s remains were identified through a tag that shows her body went to the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator for an autopsy on Nov. 1, said Amy Boule of the office. The body was turned over to a funeral home on Nov. 3.

The affidavit said Kansas City homicide detectives called Albuquerque police March 20, March 21 and March 26 about containers with body parts from the Learning Center. The affidavit said all the bodies appeared to have been dismembered by a coarse cutting instrument such as a chain saw.

Montano denied dismembering any of the bodies, the affidavit said.

The New Mexico Attorney General’s Office received a complaint from an Albuquerque woman about Bio Care late Wednesday, said a spokesman for that office, Phil Sisneros. He said he could not release details pending evaluation of the complaint.

Wyandotte County, Kan., coroner Alan C. Hancock said Tuesday that Stericycle employees first became concerned a few weeks ago when they found a head in their incineration facility. Stericycle told investigators shipments from the Learning Center have been getting increasingly larger in the past several months, the arrest warrant affidavit said.

Montano agreed to provide paperwork to the Kansas coroner’s office in connection with the remains discovered there, police spokeswoman Nadine Hamby said Wednesday afternoon.

“The big question and concern is, my loved one that Bio Care gave me in my urn, is that my loved one or not?” she said.
