John Kasich’s pro-life stand questioned over failure to pass Heartbeat Bill

Governor_John_KasichWhen presidential candidate John Kasich said that conservatives, “Focus Too Much on Abortion,” pro-lifers were shocked. After all they worked to get the Republican Governor elected in Ohio.

Now, the GOP nominee hopeful has become the target of scorn for his refusal to pass a law that would make abortions illegal at the time the baby’s heart begins. It is called the Heartbeat Bill and some in Ohio feel he is not presidential material considering his opposition to the legislation. The Buckeye state governor vetoed the Bill claiming it would endanger other abortion restrictions if it were challenged in court.

Janet Porter

In an interview with LifeSiteNews Faith2Action president Janet Porter, who voted for Kasich for Governor because of his pro-life commitment now says that Kasich has betrayed the pro-life movement by his refusal to support the Heartbeat Bill as Ohio governor.

The Bill would prohibit abortion when an unborn child’s heartbeat can be detected which is usually around 6 weeks gestation.

I’m calling on the John Kasich I used to know. The guy who would do what was right no matter what the political establishment thought,” she said.

Porter recently organized a picket outside a Kaisch event with signs reading, “Pro-Lifers Against Kasich” and “Kasich Heartless on HeartBeat Bill.”

She told reporters that Kasich only claimed to be pro-life but that he was, “Blocking the most pro-life bill in the nation.”

“We’re encouraging him to let his actions match his words,
” she said.

While Porter is challenging Kasich on his committeemen to life, the Governor said recently on the Hugh Hewitt show that his pro-life actions anger abortion supporters while he claims that he is simultaneously called the most pro-life Governor to ever old that office in the state.

“Nobody should be confused about where I am on the matter of life. It’s a very important issue, it’s a critical issue,” he said.

“I’ve been pro-life from the time I was state Senator to a Congressman for 18 years. And we’ve enacted a number of provisions right here in Ohio including a ban on late term abortions and making sure that clinics have hospital transfer agreements – I mean just a whole variety of things we have done.

The fact that you have both sides arguing about who I am – I guess that’ probably a really good thing,” Kasich said.

Porter, who campaigned for Kasich in the 1990’s, said America needs to end abortion and she is getting weary of waiting for politicians to get behind efforts to do so.

Her Faith2Action website calls quote – pro-life – unquote politicians like Kasich who refuse to pass bills to outlaw abortion culpable in allowing vulnerable unborn babies to be targeted by the grisly body parts harvesting industry recently documented by the Center for Medical Progress inside Planned Parenthood.

To get her message out about Kasich, Porter has created an advertisement tying Kasich’s postion with the recent Planned Parenthood videos exposing a gruesome baby parts harvesting operation. The political ad is graphic and implies that Kasich is unwilling to protect 20,000 unborn babies in Ohio, while calling himself pro-life.

Which is worse, selling baby body parts or allowing them to die in the first place” her website states.

Porter goes after Kasich on that very point in her video encouraging viewers to:

Tell Gov. Kasich we need to save hearts not sell them!

    Pass the Heartbeat Bill now.

The political ad is likely to shock some people and Porter believes it is needed to pressure the Governor and Presidential hopeful into doing all he can to end this holocaust against the unborn.

Governor John Kasich must either support the pro-life Heartbeat Bill or quit calling himself pro-life,” Porter added.

Janet Folger Porter’s Faith2Action group has released the trailer for a film on Christian courage entitled, Light Wins.

The film’s full title is Light Wins: How to Overcome the Criminalization of Christianity was released in March 2015 and is designed to enlighten and equip Christians to push back the darkness threatening marriage and our freedoms.

Haters are calling the vid an “Anti-Gay Documentary.”

But Porter says in the film, “The battle for our freedoms is being fought while most Christians are on the sidelines. We need to get out of the stands and into the game. Because the Super Bowl for our country is being fought and our team is not even on the field. It’s later than you think. But God is bigger than we know. To put freedom on the offensive we must become a tea. It’s time for action. Its time to pierce the darkness and shine.

Janet traveled the nation for two years, interviewing 100 of our nation’s leaders, to produce what David Barton says “may be the most important documentary on marriage yet.”

Other notables in the film include, like Gov. Mike Huckabee, David Barton, Gary Glenn, Steven Hotze, Robert Knight, Judith Reisman, Stacy Swimp, Greg Quinlan, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Brian Camenker, James Dobson, Bill Donohue, Scott Lively, Frank Pavone, Dutch Sheets, Phyllis Schlafly, Rick Scarborough, Gary Bauer, Mark Crutcher, Jerry Boykin, and Harry Jackson.

Gov. Mike Huckabee described the film this way, “Light Wins” reveals the frightening trend not to simply ignore Christian believers, but to rid society of us altogether. This ground breaking, eye opening film will awaken viewers to the fact that being a spectator is no longer an option. One will be part of the solution or part of the problem, and I hope this riveting documentary will cause believers to take notice.”

The film interviews, Pastor Hernan Castano of Iglesia Rios de Aceite, one of the “Houston Five,” as the pastors have become known, after Houston Mayor Annise Parker, a lesbian, and fellow officials subpoenaed the sermons of five pastors.

I’m still in shock that they would come to the church building. They walk through those doors where we preach the gospel and teach from God’s Word and they would demand for me all my sermons all my notes everything I speak with the people at the church. And just to intimidate me by asking me to turn anything in,” Pastor Hernan Castano says.

After the outcry, Mayor Parker withdrew the subpoenas.

Light Wins exposes the dark agenda threatening our freedoms and illuminates ways to overcome the darkness and shine. Light Wins is startling, powerful…hopeful,” says Mat Staver of the legal firm, Liberty Counsel.

Porter says you can plan a screening or order your copy of the film here.

Pro-life leader: given choice between supporting political establishment and life, I choose life

Janet PorterLast month, Faith 2 Action founder, Janet Porter held a rally and press conference in front of the Ohio statehouse to ask the Governor and the legislature to protect unborn babies by passing the Heartbeat bill.

The Heartbeat law would protect unborn children from abortion at the point a heartbeat can be detected.

The group’s message to Gov. John Kasich, House Speaker William Batchelder and Senate President Keith Faber read:

Every day in Ohio, 70 babies with beating hearts are brutally killed by abortion–something you pledged to END (not just regulate). These are not statistics. They are real babies who will fill these clothes if only you will call upon the legislature to pass the Heartbeat Bill for you to sign into law. Please make protecting these babies a top priority before the election. The price of inaction is far too high.”

To drive her point home, Porter, along with several local pastors, delivered 70 empty baby outfits, which represent the actual of unborn children that would be saved each day if Ohio were to pass the Heartbeat Bill.

Porter now says that the Governor has refused to listen to their requests to pass the Heartbeat Bill, so she has penned an open letter to the Governor, threatening to not vote for him, which has been published in the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Porter writes, “I voted for John Kasich for Governor and was thrilled when he won. That’s because I knew him to be a man who would do what was right, no matter the cost.

Back in the 1990’s, Congressman Kasich asked me to speak at events on his behalf. I readily agreed. Then, like now, he had a weak opponent. But I campaigned my heart out for him anyway – speaking at candidate forums and even debating his opponent.

Then, when I ran for Republican State Central Committee against the “establishment” Secretary of the Party, I ran with the endorsement of Congressman Kasich. When John called me on Election Night, I told him the preliminary results were 60-40. He responded with consolation.

“Don’t feel bad,” he said. “They spent more money to campaign against you then they did me!” He rattled off all the mailers and phone calls he had received against me. When I told him it was 60-40 in my favor, he couldn’t believe it. You see, he didn’t really expect me to win, but John Kasich was willing to support the underdog if he thought it was the right thing to do.

That was back when I was legislative director of Ohio Right to Life, when we dreamed of the day we could do more than just regulate abortion. That day is here.

But today’s Republican establishment is too fearful to do the right thing. The Heartbeat Bill, which will protect unborn children with detectable heartbeats, passed the Ohio House last session, but Republicans in the Ohio Senate broke their promise to pass it “after the election.”

So I called on Governor Kasich. In fact, I called everyone I knew who was close to Kasich, imploring them to enlist his help to pass the Heartbeat Bill before the 2012 session clock ran out. I reached out to legislators, cabinet members, his closest advisors – and several hand-delivered a letter from Dr. Jack Willke, founder of Right to Life, pleading for the governor’s help.

He got the letter, but he did not act.

Nearly 100,000 dead babies later, we are still asking the governor to make protecting lives a priority.

Three weeks ago, I met with the governor’s legislative director and HHS assistant policy director, and was assured that our message to the Governor would be placed on his desk. Our message was attached to 70 empty baby outfits – representing the daily cost of inaction.

Ohio Vid Janet Porter

Some “leaders” are patting themselves on the back for regulating how and where we kill children. Their results? More than 23,000 dead babies every year in our state – the equivalent of a stadium full of people. If you think killing a stadium full of people each year is something to be celebrated, you’re either a terrorist or you’ve lowered the bar on what it means to be pro-life a bit too far.

We’ve heard the excuse that the lower courts won’t like it. No kidding. The lower courts didn’t like our ban on late-term partial birth abortion either. Even the Supreme Court said no, before reversing itself seven years later. To never challenge Roe v. Wade is to embrace its bloody consequences.

I’m calling on the John Kasich I used to know. The guy who would do what was right no matter what the political establishment thought. Governor, I’m asking you to fight to pass the Heartbeat Bill as if lives depend on it. Because they do.

Break away from the status quo establishment, and do what is right – before the election. Because given the choice between supporting the political establishment and life, I choose life.”

To increase the pressure on the Governor, Porter has asked her supporters to publish her cartoon video on social media.

The vid tells the Governor, “We need you to fight for our children because the cost of delay is just too high.”

It asks voters, “If you hired someone to do a job, and they didn’t do it, would you hire them again?

The cartoon suggests that Ohio politicians are putting off saving as many lives from abortion as they could.

Everyday of delay, we lose a school bus full of children the Heartbeat bill would protect,” the vid warns.

The cartoon vid asks Janet’s supporters to contact the Governor and tell him to, “call for a Vote on the pro-life Heartbeat bill before he asks us to hire him again.”
