Troubled Virginia Abortionist Suspended Over Drug Charges
• Written by Operation Rescue

Reston, VA — Abortionist Joel Match’s medical license was summarily suspended last month by the Virginia Board of Medicine amid findings that he was operating a “pill mill” that dispensed dangerous narcotics to at least ten patients without prior treatment or proper medical work-ups, some of which were known drug addicts.
Calls to his Chantilly “pain treatment center” were unanswered.

“There is no doubt that Match presented a serious danger to the public. We are thankful he is out of commission for now and are praying that Virginia will eventually revoke his medical license. Match’s troubles are far from unique. Our research shows that drug abuse and the illegal distribution of drugs is fairly common among abortionists,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation.

Kermit Gosnell of Pennsylvania, who faces murder charges for killing babies born alive during late-term abortions, was discovered after police raided it his clinic thinking he operated a “pill mill.” Florida abortionist Harry Perper was arrested last year and charged with the illegal distribution of drugs. Other abortionists in Pennsylvania and Maryland have been arrested and/or disciplined within the last year on similar charges.

Match has a long history of problem behavior. He formerly worked for Nova Women’s Healthcare in Fairfax, Virginia, where he was employed by Mi Yong Kim, an abortionist who lost her own medical license in 2007 after killing a woman during an abortion. Kim is again under investigation for a botched abortion at Nova that was documented and reported by pro-life activists working with Operation Rescue in April, 2012.

Match was sued in 2009, along with Kim, after he gave patient Regina Tetteh a negligently performed abortion. He had informed her that her pregnancy was in her uterus when in reality, she suffered from an ectopic pregnancy. Match noted in Teeteh’s medical record that he had successfully completed the abortion of an 8 week pregnancy even though a 12 week old fetus remained dangerously lodged in her fallopian tube. Teetah began to experience increasingly worse pain and bleeding after the abortion. Instead of sending her to an emergency room, Kim rescheduled her for a second abortion several days later. Before she could make that appointment, Teetah collapsed in pain after her fallopian tube exploded, threatening her life. She unsuccessfully attempted to crawl to a phone to call for help. Her fiancé discovered her later on the floor of their home and called 911. Teeteh survived her ordeal but continued to experience pain and other issues for years.

Court records also show that Match also has a history of spousal abuse. In his 1992 divorce, the court found that Match has subjected his wife to physical abuse, including, “choking her, body-slamming her, kicking her, throwing her down the stairs, beating her face, pulling her hair and screaming at her.” Records also show that Match underwent psychiatric treatment and counseling “with respect to his violence and cruelty to a woman (his wife).”

“The documents on Match paint an ugly picture of hatred of women, sloppy abortions, and involvement with illegal drugs. That is a recipe for disaster for the women and their babies that this criminal preyed upon,” said Sullenger. “What is frightening is that we know there are many other abortionists like Match – and worse – still out there that just haven’t been caught yet. Women have no idea what they will get when they walk into an abortion clinic in America.”

Sept 2011 Updated story here

CBS Story here

According to a 2011 article in the Post-Gazette: Two abortionists who work at the Pennsylvania Allegheny Women’s Center an abortion clinic were charged with illegally prescribing medication to a staff member.

John P. Barrett, 41, of Mt. Lebanon, and Alton Lawson, 72, of Point Breeze, each face three counts. Dr. Barrett is the medical director at the clinic, while Dr. Alton, who previously served in that role, now only works there once a week.

An investigation by the attorney general’s office and Drug Enforcement Administration showed that the Allegheny Women’s Center, at 121 N. Highland Ave., was receiving large quantities of Diethylpropion, a medication used to treat obesity.

According to the criminal complaint, when investigators went to the clinic, they discovered that the medication was being ordered for Mark Wagner, a lab tech there. Mr. Wagner, 48, of Swissvale, had been using the drug to treat anxiety and depression.

However, Mr. Wagner was not a patient of either Dr. Barrett or Dr. Lawson, and his own psychiatrist was not aware that he was taking the medication.

Both doctors at the clinic said they did not know how much medication was being ordered for Mr. Wagner. Dr. Barrett said the clinic paid for it to compensate Mr. Wagner for working overtime, the complaint said.

When investigators spoke to Mr. Wagner, it continued, he admitted that he used the drug but also that he sold a large quantity of it to his friend. Karen Kane, 63, of Irwin, used the medicine for weight control. She is a former nurse.

Mr. Wagner is charged with conspiracy, possession and delivery of Diethylpropion.

Ms. Kane is charged with conspiracy, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

During the course of the investigation, Dr. Barrett agreed to surrender his license to dispense medication at the clinic.

An obstetrician and gynecologist with UPMC, Dr. Barrett had a separate license to prescribe medicine there, which the complaint said, he did not want to turn over.

On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for UPMC said that Dr. Barrett was not authorized to work for the women’s center and he has been placed on administrative leave with the medical facility.

PA’s Westport News is reporting: 3 at W.Pa. abortion clinic face drug abuse charge
By: JOE MANDAK, Associated Press Tuesday, July 26, 2011

The Pennsylvania Department of Health oversees abortion clinics, but a spokeswoman there said the charges would not fall under the department’s oversight, but rather with the Department of State, which licenses physicians and had no record of discipline against either doctor, according to its website.

Health department spokeswoman Christine Cronkright couldn’t say whether the clinic whether under investigation for any of the criminal allegations revealed Tuesday, but referred The Associated Press to an inspection report last month that showed the clinic “failed to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.” It was not immediately clear whether the clinic faces sanctions for those findings.

The state health department has been criticized for its oversight of abortion clinics since a Philadelphia clinic was shut down after authorities said they found filthy and unsafe conditions last year and an trail of misconduct so gruesome that the operator was charged with eight counts of murder. The state House and Senate have since passed conflicting bills that each seek to more tightly regulate the clinics, and the health department has resumed regular inspections of the clinics.

According to the June 1 inspection of the Pittsburgh clinic, several sanitary violations were found, including a soda can in an examination room and expired endocervical specimen collection kits for a venereal disease.

The report also shows that only cold water was available at sinks in the clinic’s procedure rooms, sterilization room, recovery area and patient restrooms. Five sterilized packages of curettes were not sealed, and no expiration dates were on the packages, the report said.

Perhaps they should also be charged with FALSE ADVERTISING:

Those arrests came on the heels of another arrest of a Planned Parenthood abortionist for drug and alcohol charges also in 2011. The California Medical Board suspended the license of a contract abortionist for Planned Parenthood</strong> who was already on probation pending an Aug. 2 hearing before an administrative law judge in Oakland, after . The Medical Board issued an “interim suspension order” on July 25 against Dr. Jesse James Joplin who, according to Medical Board documents, has worked for Planned Parenthood for 27 years. The conditions of Joplin’s probation provided that he abstain completely from the use of alcohol, submit to random urine tests four times a month, submit to a psychiatric evaluation and undergo psychotherapy, submit to monitoring by an independent physician and not engage in the solo practice of medicine, not supervise physicians assistants, and “obey all laws.”

The restrictions placed on Joplin by the Medical Board stemmed from a series of alcohol-related convictions dating back to 2007, according to the Board’s records.

The first arrest was on July 4, 2007, after Joplin was stopped for speeding by a California Highway Patrol officer. “The officer observed a plastic baggie of marijuana in the center console area” and smelled alcohol, Medical Board records show. Joplin pleaded no contest in December 2007 to “reckless driving involving alcohol, drugs, or both,” according to the records.

In September 2009, Joplin was again arrested after his “erratic driving drew the attention of another motorist, who called 911.” The arresting officer, say Medical Board records, noted Joplin had slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol, and was disoriented to time and place. In March 2010, Joplin was convicted of misdemeanor drunken driving in connection with the 2009 arrest. He chose to go to jail instead of performing community service “in order to ‘learn a lesson,’” but “does not want to go to jail again,” the Board’s records show.

Arrests of abortion clinic staffers appears to be common:

In 2008, a former employee and abortionist for Planned Parenthood of the Columbia-Willamette in Oregon by the name of Dr. GEORGE ELLIOTT KABACY, M.D., was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison for possession of child pornography. He was not practicing at the Planned Parenthood at the time of his arrest.

And according to Operation Rescue:

Earlier this year Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s late-term abortion mill was raided by the local District Attorney’s office after their investigations showed he was the largest supplier of OxyContin sold on the streets. After entering his clinic, police discovered a filthy “house of horrors” where semi-comotose women languished in labor during late-term abortions. Bodies of viable aborted babies were found that revealed that Gosnell was killing them after they were born alive. Gosnell was charges for the illegal distribution of drugs along with eight counts of murder.

In March, Florida abortionist Harry Perper was arrested and charged with racketeering, conspiracy and drug trafficking for his part in the operation of a “pill mill” where he recklessly prescribed OxyContin and other powerful pain medications.

While doing abortions for four-time suspended Florida abortionist James Pendergraft, Florida abortion doctor: Randall Whitney was arrested in March for slapping a customer of Orlando Women’s Center and charged with felony battery. After pleading not guilty through his and Pendergraft’s attorney James Buonauro, Whitney simply failed to show up for his trial.

O’Donnell dared to “Dabble in Politics” without the approval of the left and Karl Rove-the “witch hunt” has begun !

Bill Mahre has threatened to show old “Clips” of Christine O’Donnell if she does not come on his show. He is using video from her days as a teenager to try and undermine her campaign…think about that ! Look at YOUTUBE and imagine how many teens will one day regret what they posted !

Mahre’s newest “Clip” is of O’Donnell’s claim that she “Dabbled in Witchcraft” – (Below) is Bill Mahre admitting he “Dabbled in Witchcraft” : – )

And the High Wizard of Mean Spirited Politics himself- Karl Rove weighed in:

Here is O’Donnell’s explanation: “I was in high school, how many of you didn’t hang out with questionable people in high school?..if there was Karl Rove would be a supporter now.”

Perhaps we should define “Dabbled” does it mean that you tried it, or does it mean you had a moment of indiscretion?
Decades before Sen. Barack Obama was a leading candidate for the presidency, he was a lot like many University of Florida students: young, intelligent and curious.

That college-aged curiosity led him to use alcohol, marijuana and cocaine, decisions that became issues of contention in his campaign.

Obama first told of his early drug use in his 1995 memoir, “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.

He had just become president of the Harvard Law Review at the time of the book’s publishing, but he was years away from entering the national spotlight as a U.S. senator.

Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it,” wrote Obama about what he would later say were “bad decisions.” “Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man.”

So – when Obama “Dabbles” in drugs – all is written off a youthful indiscretion – but- O’Donnell’s “indiscretion” will be a call for her resignation. Demonize her….Isn’t that what the left does anyway?

And when Bill Clinton- admitted he used marijuana, his “I didn’t inhale excuse was enough for the left ! Obama- then admitted that he did “INHALE“…yet the left found both of them as appealing to real people.

But- we all know that the left NEVER says or does anything they “Regret”

The following report from ABC published during the 2008 presidential primary election days on November 7, 2008, then Senator Obama apologizing to Nancy Reagan after Obama, during a press conference, told reporters Nancy Reagan held seances at the White House:

“I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any séances,” Obama explained —

Abortionist license suspended for fourth time in Florida

Doctor’s license suspended for fourth time

A Central Florida doctor, who has been disciplined in the past for performing illegal abortions, is back in trouble again.

The Florida Board of Medicine has suspended Dr. James Pendergraft’s license for the fourth time.

Pendergraft has certainly had a tumultuous medical career.

According to documents from the Department of Health, his license has been suspended for doing illegal third trimester abortions, distributing drugs without a license, and in 2004, the doctor ran into legal troubles.

He was caught up in what prosecutors alleged was extortion in Marion County surrounding his abortion clinic there.

He pleaded guilty to impeding justice.

“I think it’s a wake-up call for us all when we have an individual who is allowed to practice medicine in a way that draws question as to both his credibility and capability,” said Aaron Liberman, the chairman of the Department of Health Management and Informatics at the University of Central Florida.
The doctor’s troubles don’t end there.

Pendergraft was again before the Board of Medicine Saturday.
Board members voted to suspend his license again for one year. This time he was accused in incidents related to a troubled 31-year-old employee.
The board said he:
• Allowed the woman to administer narcotics to patients although she had no license to do so
• Knew she abused drugs but gave her “free reign” to order drugs under his name
• Prescribed steroids for the woman without medical justification

The Department of Health said Pendergraft’s numerous suspensions will run concurrent to each other, and once they’re finished, he’ll be free to practice in the state of Florida again.

Liberman finds Pendergraft’s lenient punishment wrong.

“Unfortunately, in the state of Florida over the past many years, we have not seen the enforcement and the rigor (in) some other states like Iowa, Indiana, (and) Minnesota,” Liberman said.

He said if Pendergraft was in those states, it’s unlikely he would be eligible to get his license back.

News 13 made several calls to Pendergraft at his clinics in Orlando and Ocala and to his lawyer’s office.
He did not respond to any of our messages.

In addition to the one year suspension, Pendergraft was fined $10,000, given three years probation and will have to attend a course on record keeping.

News report questions judgment of FL medical board for not revoking Pendergraft’s license

Orlando, FL – Abortionist James Pendergraft has had his medical license suspended for a fourth by the Florida Board of Medicine, which made the decision on Saturday.

“This is a case that should outrage everyone,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Here is a proven quack that has served three previous license suspensions, yet continues to offend. Even a stint in prison hasn’t helped Pendergraft amend his ways. Nevertheless, the Board will allow this man to continue the practice of medicine after he serves his fourth suspension. It is irresponsible to place women at repeated risk from this guy. Enough is enough!”

Pendergraft’s license was suspended for one year, to be followed by three years of probation. He was ordered to pay $10,000 fine and take a course on record keeping. The suspension order was given after the Board found that Pendergraft had allowed an unlicensed employee to order and administer drugs even though she was unqualified and had a known history of drug abuse. Pendergraft also was disciplined for prescribing steroids to her for unknown reasons.

Pendergraft faced previous suspensions, one as recently as January, 2010, for botched abortions, committing illegal late-term abortions, and dispensing drugs without a license. In 2004, he pled guilty to impeding justice while under investigation for extortion.

The Board ruled on Saturday that Pendergraft’s two active suspensions would run concurrently.

Aaron Liberman, the chairman of the Department of Health Management and Informatics at the University of Central Florida, objected to the leniency shown by the Board.

“I think it’s a wake-up call for us all when we have an individual who is allowed to practice medicine in a way that draws question as to both his credibility and capability,” he said.

Pendergraft owns five abortion clinics in Florida. While on suspension, his clinics continue to operate with other abortionists, at least one of which has had his own problems with the law. Abortionist Randall Whitney has had his license suspended twice and place on probation for violations according to the Florida Health Department.

“Pendergraft’s clinics are a menace to the public. They should be closed, and perhaps if he was in another state, they would be. It is simply outrageous that these people who have proven that they cannot comport themselves within the law are allowed the opportunity to continue to prey on an unsuspecting public. The Florida Board of Medicine seriously dropped the ball by not revoking Pendergraft and forcing the closure of his clinics,” said Newman.

California Abortionist Accused of Homicide In Patient Death

Rutland blames Operation Rescue/local activists for his troubles while failing to take responsibility for his own negligence

San Diego, CA – The Medical Board of California amended a complaint on Wednesday against troubled abortionist Andrew Rutland to include the charge of homicide in the death of Ying Chen. The action came after the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office reclassified Chen’s death as a homicide in June.

A revocation hearing before the Medical Board is scheduled for February, 2011.

Rutland had committed a second trimester abortion on Ying Chen at a dirty, unlicensed acupuncture clinic in San Gabriel, California, during which he administered an overdose of lidocaine. He failed to recognize the symptoms of the overdose and the patient went into cardiac arrest. He and his staff were untrained and unequipped to handle the medical emergency. After a “significant delay” in contacting 911, the woman was transported to a local hospital where she died six days later. Chen’s death was originally classified as accidental.

Rutland has a long history of Board discipline and other problems. His medical license was revoked in 2003 for severing a baby’s spinal column during a forceps delivery, then lying to the parents by telling them that their baby suffered a stroke. The baby later died. His license was reinstated in 2007 and Rutland was placed on 5 years probation with the restriction that he operate only under the supervision of another physician.

Last October, Operation Rescue reported that Rutland was violating his probation by engaging in the solo practice of medicine at an abortion clinic in Chula Vista. We asked our supporters to contact the California Medical Board and demand that his medical license be revoked.

On November 3, 2009, an Inspector from the California Medical Board attempted to inspect Rutland’s stock of drugs and his records at his Chula Vista clinic, but was refused access by Rutland’s staff.

In January, the Medical Board asked for an emergency suspension of Rutland’s license until the Board could work through the lengthy process to finalize revocation. During that hearing, a judge blocked Rutland from doing abortions, but allowed him to continue office consultations.

Operation Rescue learned in February that Rutland was continuing to administer the abortion pill and contacted the Board with the evidence. Judge James Ahler later amended his order to allow Rutland to continue to the chemical abortions, as long as he did not engage in surgical abortions.

In response the reclassification of Chen’s death as a homicide, Rutland sent an angry letter to a list of elected officials and others, including Oprah Winfrey, demanding an investigation into “clandestine collaborations of national antiabortion group organizations and local antiabortion activists with the Medical Board of California.” Rutland singles out Operation Rescue and complains that we used “clandestine political collaborations” to force several abortionists out of business. He opines that everyone from the Medical Examiner, to the hospital, to the police officer who investigated Chen’s death were all involved in some plot against him.

“Rutland has proven himself to be a dishonest man who presents an ongoing danger to the public. It was his own negligence and attitude that he is above the law that has landed him in repeated trouble with the Medical Board,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“Rutland complains that his problems are somehow the result of an anti-abortion plot. He is upset that authorities would hold him accountable to the law, but what he really wants is to be treated as if no laws apply to him. People are dying due to his shoddy work and Operation Rescue is proud of any small part we may have played in bringing him to justice.”

Rutland ammended complaint

The Orange County Register reports that,
According to the board’s current complaint, Ying Chen was 16 to 16 ½ weeks pregnant when she went to Rutland’s San Gabriel office seeking an abortion on July 28, 2009. Rutland later told the board he gave the patient a diluted lidocaine solution as an anesthetic. Shortly afterward, the patient began having a reaction. Rutland and two other doctors at the office, one of them an acupuncturist, began performing CPR on the victim. Paramedics arrived and found Chen in full cardiac arrest. She was taken to a hospital, where she died six days later.
The board determined that a “significant delay” had passed between Chen’s adverse reaction and the 911 call. It also said Rutland had “failed to recognize lidocaine toxicity,” didn’t begin resuscitative measures quickly enough, and that the facility was inadequately equipped to deal with an emergency.
Rutland, in his letter, called Chen’s reaction an “unpreventable complication,”
