The Truth About Chemical Abortion and Women’s Health: Updated FDA on RU486

by Jeanne Monahan
July 12, 2011

A summary of adverse event reports (AERS) recently released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and obtained through Sen. Orrin Hatch’s office reveal that in the span of almost eleven years since the approval of the abortion drug, popularly known as RU-486, in the United States, at least 11 women have died as a result of complications related to taking the drug.[1] Internationally, the number of women who have died as a result of RU-486 is at least 17.[2]

That’s not all. The dangerous complications associated with this drug continue include hemorrhaging and infection. In the U.S., at least 612 women have been hospitalized after taking RU-486; and at least 339 women required blood transfusions as a result of serious blood loss after taking the abortion drug.

Clearly highlighting the need for more stringent medical oversight, the report also indicates that 58 women were prescribed RU-486 despite having ectopic pregnancies. Yet, “[a]dministration of mifepristone and misoprostol is contraindicated in patients with confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy.”[3] To state it more clearly, a woman who has an ectopic pregnancy and takes the RU486 regimen places her life in danger.

It is not only women in the U.S. who are suffering as a result of chemical abortion, it is a worldwide trend. A recent Australian health department audit of nearly 10,000 abortions performed in 2009 and 2010 compared the safety of RU-486 with surgical abortion, with the outcome being in the words of one major media outlet “The Abortion Pill ‘Less Safe than Surgery’”. The Australian report showed that 1 in 18 patients who used RU-486 had to be re-admitted to hospitals (a total of 5.7% of women vs. only .4% of surgical abortions.) The same study revealed that as many as 33% of women who had second trimester RU-486 abortions required some form of surgical intervention.[4]

Marketing the abortion drug as simple and painless, such as taking an aspirin, is dangerously misleading to women. RU-486 is in a class of drugs categorized as selective progesterone receptor modulators, which, in addition to blocking progesterone necessary for the developing baby, also suppresses a woman’s immune system. Additionally, it is sometimes the case that the remains of the pregnancy are not entirely expelled from a woman’s uterus, causing infection and other problems.

Despite the seriousness and intensity of adverse effects related to RU-486, use of this form of abortion is on the rise, and frequently the regimen is dispensed with less medical oversight than surgical abortion. Even more troubling, nationally and internationally, “telemed” dissemination of RU-486 is increasing.[5] Telemed abortions involved doctors proscribing RU-486 through skype or over the internet rather than during a patient visit.

The bottom line is that abortion drugs are not about improving women’s health but are more accurately about advancing a radical pro-abortion agenda regardless of the impact on women’s health, even when it proves deadly.

There’s another side of Black History Month

In 1926, historian Carter G. Woodson introduces Black History Week to the world. With deep convictions about the plight of African-Americans and other minority groups, Woodson wanted to honor the contributions of African-Americans in America.

Being a part of the African-American community myself, I must write with great concerns, viewing another side “being black,” revealing the destruction of the African- American community in America as we celebrate Black History Month.

Recent figures of the Center for Disease Control give an alarming fact that is destroying the black community in America, which is self-destructing behavior among some black people. According to reports, “by race/ethnicity, African-Americans face the most severe burden of HIV in the United States (US). At the end of 2007, blacks accounted for almost half (46 percent) of people living with a diagnosis of HIV infection in 37 states and 5 US dependent areas with long-term confidential, name-based HIV reporting.” This is nothing to celebrate.
The report went on to say, “In 2006, blacks accounted for nearly half (45 percent) of new infections in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Even though new HIV infections among blacks overall have been roughly stable since the early 1990s, compared with members of other races and ethnicities they continue to account for a higher proportion of cases at all stages of HIV-from new infections to deaths,” according to the CDC.

Being retired from police service after a 25-plus-year career and trained to seek the facts, these facts are unacceptable to me and should be unacceptable to any decent God-fearing American. But the history does not stop there. There is a powerful documentary written and produced by Mark Crutcher, president of Life Dynamics Inc., called “Maffa 21 Black Genocide in 21st Century America.

In the presentation, the statement is made that “since 1973, legal abortion has killed more African-Americans than AIDS, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and violent crimes combined.” The presenter goes on to say “every week, more blacks die in American abortion clinics than were killed in the entire Vietnam War. And the largest chain of abortion clinics in the United States is operated by Planned Parenthood.” The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger believed that “the weak, the poor and the blacks were little more than weeds who needed to be uprooted and/or sterilized to further the good of mankind.” This statement appeared in Sanger’s book, “The Pivot of Civilization,” published in 1922, according to a recent article published by Faith & Freedom Foundation.

Self-proclaimed black leader Jesse Jackson in 1975 called for a ban on abortion through a constitutional amendment. He stated in a Jet Magazine interview that “abortion is genocide,” then did an about face in 1984 when he ran for president and stood with the Democratic Party that supported Roe vs. Wade.

There is a total of 88 abortion clinics in the states surrounding Ohio and in Ohio. The majority of these clinics are in the poorer communities where a major portion of the population is people of color. What would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. say if he were alive today? Would these facts please him or cause his dream to be transformed into a nightmare. Let me say to everyone reading this column but especially to those who look like me, are we so far removed from the facts of history that we ignore the present crisis of human suffering and self-destruction? Shall we continue to go through the motion of a celebration of African-American History — which is American history — while turning our heads away from the possible inhalation of a certain group in our society? For those who know or don’t know this writer, for me it is a resounding no.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness must remain as our God-given rights, but must be approached as a privilege to help each other achieve. If Black History Month is to mean anything of substance, then participants must see the value of living and every person’s right to have a life supported by opportunities for equality and not mandates for receiving equality.

It is fine to celebrate our race, (human) creed, ethnicities, colors and cultures, but it is more reasonable and productive when we celebrate human living. I am my brothers’ keeper. With the world appearing to be in an upheaval, celebrate the possibilities of becoming more by helping someone to express the value of life, and we can all receive more from life.

Watchdog group finds many deaths and hundreds of serious side effects linked to Gardasil

The FDA adverse event reports on the HPV vaccine read like a catalog of horrors. Any state or local government now beset by Merck’s lobbying campaigns to mandate this HPV vaccine for young girls ought to take a look at these adverse health reports.
-Tom Fitton

On June 8, 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the drug Gardasil. Gardasil is a vaccine against certain types of human papilloma virus (HPV) which is the primary cause of cervical cancer in women.

* Several state and local governments have proposed requiring the vaccine for school girls entering the 6th grade.
* Gardasil is approved for girls as young as nine years old, despite the fact that the youngest girls participating in clinical trials were 11-12 years old.
* A recent study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, also questioned the general effectiveness of Gardasil. Additionally, there has not been a chance to study long term side effects of the vaccine.

Judicial Watch, concerned about the rush to market and mandate a drug with possible serious adverse effects, filed its first Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request on May 9, 2007, and received 1,637 adverse event reports on May 15, 2007. These reports are submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and used by the FDA to monitor the safety of vaccines.

On August 20, 2007 Judicial Watch filed a request for updated adverse event reports and received 1,824 reports on September, 13 2007. Judicial Watch then filed a complaint against the FDA on October 3, 2007 for failing to fully respond to the May 9, 2007 FOIA request.

Judicial Watch has posted links to the adverse event reports below and continues to monitor VAERS reports submitted to the FDA in relation to Gardasil.

The case was closed in April 2010. Read documents here

This STD drug was supposed to help girls, not kill them …
19-year-old reported chest pain, nausea; died of ‘cardiac arrhythmia’

Posted: September 28, 2010
Worldnet Daily By Bob Unruh

The case report is terse about the 19-year-old woman who was given Gardasil, a vaccine intended to guard against a sexually transmitted disease, and reported, “Headache, nausea, dizziness, chilling, tiredness, shortness of breath, complained of chest pain, severe cramps.”

She died of “acute cardiac arrhythmia.” Said the report, “Attempts to resuscitate her resulted in a sternal fracture, but were unsuccessful and the patient died.”

That’s just one of the 16 new reports that have arrived since the middle of last year that document deaths linked to Gardasil.

“To say Gardasil has a suspect safety record is a big understatement. These reports are troubling and show that the FDA and other public-health authorities may be asleep at the switch,” said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, the government watchdog organization that investigates and reports on government corruption.

“In the meantime, the public-relations push for Gardasil by Merck and politicians on Capitol Hill continues. No one should require this vaccine for young children,” Fitton said.

Judicial Watch launched a comprehensive investigation of Gardasil’s safety record in 2008 after the drug’s manufacturer, Merck & Co., began a major effort to lobby in state legislatures to impose requirements that girls be given their product. Eventually the Centers for Disease Control suggested the maker back off its campaign.

It was in 2008 when Judicial Watch obtained documents from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration documenting “anaphylactic shock,” “foaming at mouth,” “grand mal convulsion,” “coma” and “now paralyzed” descriptions of the complications from Gardasil. The drug is intended to address the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus, believed by researchers to be an indicator for future cases of cervical cancer. The company wanted it to be mandatory for all schoolgirls.

At that time, the organization’s work uncovered reports of about one death a month, bringing the total death toll from the drug to at least 18 and as many as 20 at that time. The new report documents that there have been at least another 16 fatalities in the months since, along with 789 “serious” reports of reactions submitted to the FDA. Two hundred thirteen of the cases in the most recent reporting period resulted in a permanent disability and 25 resulted in Guillian Barre Syndrome.

Meanwhile: PLANNED PARENTHOOD , the nation’s largest abortion clinic , is giving Gardasil shots to Boys as well as girls:

Missouri Boys Can Get HPV Shots At Clinics
July 22, 2010
ST. LOUIS, MO. – Clinics and health departments throughout Missouri are now offering a vaccine for males that was created to help protect females from certain sexually-associated diseases. Gardasil combats the Human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that can be passed during sexual contact and is the main cause of cervical cancer and genital warts.

Some parents don’t feel boys are at risk of getting HPV like girls, says Mary Kogut, vice president of patient services for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region, which now offers the vaccine for males ages nine to 26. But, vaccinating boys will protect them and help stop the spread of HPV, she says.

Sex virus blamed for rise in head and neck cancers – may bring more forced HPV vaccinations
(Reuters) – The number of head and neck cancers linked to a virus spread by oral sex is rising rapidly and suggests boys as well as girls should be offered protection through vaccination, doctors said Friday.

4/1/2010

Despite an overall slight decline in head and neck cancers in recent years, cases of a particular form called oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have increased sharply, particularly in the developed world.

This growth seems to be linked to cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), scientists said in a report in the British Medical Journal.

Dead girl’s Mother keeping up her campaign against Gardasil

Lisa Schryver Ericzon’s daughter, Jessica F., died two years ago, and Ms. Ericzon says she believes the Gardasil vaccine was the cause. Ms. Ericzon, Omar, has spent the past two years researching the vaccine and connecting with other parents, in an effort to get her concerns about the vaccine heard.

“We’re getting along. We take it day by day,” Ms. Ericzon said. “I’ve done a lot of research since Jessie died. We cannot prove it, but it seems that there are way too many girls who have been injured or died after getting this vaccine.”

Ms. Ericzon returned home after work Feb. 22, 2008, to find Jessica, 17, dead on the bathroom floor. It was two days after receiving her third dose of Gardasil. Jessica had been complaining of pain in the back of her head since receiving the shot, Ms. Ericzon said.

She said she believes that Gardasil was to blame for Jessica’s death, and during her research on the vaccine, she has tried to contact agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to voice her concerns.

German authorities try to debunk Swine Flu Shots caused vaccination deaths

Officials say deaths not caused by swine flu shot

Published: 19 Nov 09

German health officials on Thursday took the unusual step of debunking speculation that several recent deaths were caused by immunizations against swine flu.

All of the concerned cases involved people who were already seriously ill,” Susanne Stöcker, spokeswoman from the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) in Berlin, told RBB info radio.

Responsible for approving the vaccines used in Germany, the PEI is hoping to counter public fears immunization could pose more risks than the actual swine flu virus.

Citing a PEI report, daily paper Bild said on Thursday there had been 11 cases of serious allergic reactions to the immunization. In most cases, the symptoms appeared 40 minutes after receiving the shot.

Another six people, one of whom was epileptic, suffered from a neurological reaction. The others experienced a variety of symptoms, including a tingling in the right arm, headache, disorientation and double vision.

Bild also reported there have been three cases leading to cardiovascular symptoms and three instances of autoimmune reactions such as fainting and serious infections.

In recent days, there have been two deaths occurring after immunization for swine flu: a 83-year-old man in Saxony and a small child in Berlin.

Since the vaccine became available, more than 1.5 million people in Germany have been immunized, according to the PEI. Of those, doctors have recorded 652 adverse reactions in 197 patients, aged 10 months to 92 years.

As of Thursday morning, there have been 22 confirmed deaths in Germany caused by swine flu out of more than 60,000 cases. Health authorities confirmed on Monday that two men from Bavaria died from swine flu complications.

German officials believe the rate of new infections has accelerated to 15,000 a week, making it increasingly urgent that people in the high-risk category such as small children and pregnant women become vaccinated.

High Potential for False Safety Concerns with H1N1 Vaccine

From Medical News:

Failure to account for background rates when considering adverse events from pandemic H1N1 flu vaccination could spark public panic, researchers cautioned.
Coincidental cases of dramatic events including sudden death, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and spontaneous abortion can be expected to boost the true incidence of adverse events after immunization, said Steven Black, MD, of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and colleagues online in The Lancet.

The public will need frequent reassurance of vaccine safety when events that are temporally associated with vaccination are identified, even when these events have other causes and occur at the expected background rate,” they said.

Widespread belief in spurious associations can disrupt immunization programs, the researchers noted.

They cited the example of four deaths that occurred within 24 hours of seasonal flu vaccination in 2006 in Israel that derailed the program there, even though these were high-risk patients to begin with and the number of deaths was actually lower than expected from chance alone.

The risk is high for a similar situation with the mass vaccination programs underway for H1N1 influenza, they said.

A vaccination campaign in 1976-1977 against “swine” flu was associated with elevated rates of the autoimmune disease Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Since one or two diagnoses of the syndrome per 1 million people would be expected every month, 200 or more cases of Guillain-Barré will occur as background, coincidental events during the current vaccination campaign if 100 million people in the U.S. are immunized.

The reporting of even a fraction of such a large number of cases as adverse events after immunization, with attendant media coverage, would probably give rise to intense public concern, even though the occurrence of such cases was completely predictable and would have happened in the absence of a mass campaign,” Black’s group wrote.

So, the investigators looked into background rates of some events that are most likely to raise concerns with the pandemic vaccination campaign.
A review of data from prior studies and from hospital databases showed that rates varied by year, country, age, and sex.

Overall, 3.58 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome would be expected as background events within seven days per 10 million individuals vaccinated and 21.50 per 10 million within six weeks.

Coincident sudden death would be expected to strike 0.98 people per 10 million vaccinated people within seven days of vaccination and 5.75 cases would be expected to occur within six weeks as background events.

Among women, 14.40 cases of optic neuritis would be expected for every 10 million vaccinated within seven days and 86.30 could be expected for the same population within six weeks.

For pregnant women, 397 spontaneous abortions within one day of vaccination would occur as coincidental, background events for every 1 million vaccinated.

However, the researchers cautioned that the miscarriage rate may have been an overestimate given that vaccination rates are not uniform throughout trimesters of pregnancy.

But given the large number of events that could potentially be misinterpreted as caused by vaccination, Black’s group recommended “timely and thorough analysis of safety concerns,” taking into account the chance of temporal and geographical clustering.

For example, about 2% of practices will likely have a seemingly elevated rate — more than two standard deviations above average — of post vaccination spontaneous abortion based on the normal distribution.

Although this could lead to suspicions of a link to vaccination or a specific manufacturer’s vaccine, the investigators warned that “even random events can appear to have patterns.”

The number of cases sent to passive reporting systems alone is not an appropriate method on which to rely because the “denominator” — the number vaccinated — is usually not known, they cautioned.

Comparing observed and expected rates is a better method, although that is still subject to uncertainty and differences in populations, the researchers said.
In the U.S., the voluntary Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System has beefed up outreach efforts, and a new Web-based active surveillance system has been implemented along with population-based, computerized database monitoring, according to an accompanying commentary in The Lancet.

The CDC’s Frank DeStefano, MD, MPH, and Jerome Tokars, MD, MPH, wrote that other countries have mounted similarly intensive monitoring for the safety of the H1N1 vaccine, which should serve as a model for tracking safety of all vaccines in the future.

Black reported serving on the data monitoring safety board for pneumoccocal conjugate vaccine for GlaxoSmithKline and receiving honoraria for participation in scientific advisory boards for Novartis. Co-authors reported conflicts of interest with the CDC, Merck, Novartis, Wyeth, and Sanofi Pasteur.

DeStefano and Tokars reported no conflicts of interest.

Oct. 27, 2009 — A new survey shows only about one in four pregnant women and mothers of young children plan to get the H1N1 flu vaccine this year, despite recommendations from public health groups urging them to do so.
The CDC, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and many other public health organizations strongly recommend that pregnant women and new mothers get both the seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccine shots to protect themselves as well as their newborns.
The survey shows 43% of pregnant women and mothers of children younger than 2 years old plan to get a seasonal flu shot this year, up from 33% surveyed last year. But only 27% plan on getting the H1N1 flu vaccine.
Researchers say confusion and concerns about the safety and effectiveness of the H1N1 vaccine may be preventing many pregnant women from getting the additional protection they need…..
