Washington Times:

By Kerry Picket on March 23, 2010 into Water Cooler

Congressman Bart Stupak, a Michigan Democrat, is drawing fire from pro-life groups for his support of the health care act he previously was against before President Obama promised to issue an executive order addressing Mr. Stupak’s concerns regarding the federal funding of abortions. I spoke with Mr. Stupak on Tuesday about the issues surrounding his vote. Mr. Obama has yet to sign the executive order as of this posting:

PICKET: There are two things that have surfaced right after you made your decision to support the bill. One is the video of that town hall meeting.

STUPAK: In Cheboygan…yeah.

PICKET: Can you tell me about that?

STUPAK: That’s a town hall meeting, and that was in the fall before we had the Stupak amendment, and the question was, ‘Would I vote against the health care bill if it funded abortions?’ I said I would cross that when I get there, because I was negotiating on the Stupak Amendment. And what did I do? We forced a showdown with the House, we got the Stupak Amendment, and we banned abortions in the House bill.

PICKET: But, particularly, you said you would vote for the health care bill even if the language didn’t get into it.

STUPAK: That’s not what I said. If you go to the video…the unaltered video, you will find I said, ‘If I’m given a clean shot, and I’m allowed to bring it up, and a rule comes up, and I’m allowed to have my amendment, and let’s say we lose that 218 to 216, would I then vote for health care? Yeah, if it’s a good bill , I would, because I want health care, and as long as I had a shot to vote my conscience, then I would feel comfortable. I’ve done all I could as one member to protect the sanctity of life.

PICKET: Then how come you didn’t vote for Pence’s amendment to de-fund Planned Parenthood back in 2009?

STUPAK: I don’t think I ever voted to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood does not do abortions…in my district. Planned Parenthood has a number of clinics in my district that provide health care for my people. Therefore, these clinics do quite well in my district, and I’m all for health care and extending it to everybody–access to health care, so that’s just another way. Also on Planned Parenthood , when they do it, there is a segregation of funds that go with it. It’s usually about four hundred million they tried to de-fund on Planned Parenthood. Maybe this time, I’ll look at it again if Pence brings it up. Maybe I’ll vote differently this time, but you’re right I did vote against it.

At least two Planned Parenthood clinics exist in Mr. Stupak’s district. One is located in Petoskey and the other in Marquette. The services offered at each clinic are listed as follows:

In Marquette:

Abortion Referral
Birth Control Services
Emergency Contraception ( ISN’T THIS ABORTION????)
General Health Care
Men’s Health Services
Women’s Health Services
STD Testing & Treatment
Patient Education
Pregnancy Testing, Options & Services

In Petoskey:

Abortion Referral
Birth Control Services
Emergency Contraception ( ABORTION!!!!)
General Health Care
HIV Testing
Men’s Health Services
Patient Education
Pregnancy Testing, Options & Services
STD Testing & Treatment
Women’s Health Services

Mr. Stupak seems to toe the line, given both of these clinics include abortion referral services. If he wanted to protect the sanctity of life, why agree to continue funding clinics that recommend places for women to have abortions? Planned Parenthood describes this referral service:

Planned Parenthood health centers in communities around the country offer you the health care you need. Our caring and knowledgeable staff provide a wide range of services — including abortion services. Health centers that do not provide abortion services provide abortion referrals.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Stupak is okay with this, but it is not surprising. He can say he is supportive of these clinics or the health reform act in the name of “access to health care,” because as far as he is concerned, his conscience is clear.

Neugebauer continues fight against abortion
By Elliott Blackburn | AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Lubbock’s congressman sought campaign donations and cast his widely criticized outburst during Sunday’s health care debate as a renewed anti-abortion effort a day after issuing a defiant apology.

U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Lubbock, posted a video message to his web site late Monday describing the “government takeover of individual health care” and “the lives of unborn children used as a bargaining chip.”

Neugebauer apologized Monday for shouting “baby killer” as anti-abortion Michigan Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak gave critical support to the health care bill, which ultimately passed on a mostly party-line vote.

Neugebauer said he had referred to the health care bill itself and not Stupak, who had opposed the bill without stronger prohibitions against federal funding for abortions.
Representatives for Neugebauer’s office could not be reached late Tuesday afternoon.

Searches for “Neugebauer” on Google returned paid advertising that read “Join Randy Neugebauer/Protect the Unborn” and linked to the congressman’s web site.
The new YouTube video pledged to “continue to speak in the same passion that I spoke last night – maybe in a little bit different form.”

A message posted to the conservative Red State blog said to be from the congressman described Majority Whip James Clyburn’s call for Neugebauer to apologize on the House floor and “a clear mission” for what Neugebauer saw as an anti-abortion battle.

“While the floor of the House was the wrong place to shout out my objection, the fact remains that this legislation will kill babies,” the post attributed to Neugebauer read.

Statement of Cecile Richards, President of PPFA, on House Passing Historic Health Care Reform Bill

“Today is a truly historic day for the American people who have long demanded affordable, quality health care coverage.

“For more than a year, Planned Parenthood has worked tirelessly for a health care reform bill that would fix our broken health care system, strengthen women’s health, and achieve quality, affordable health care for all Americans. Today, monumental progress was made toward achieving these goals with the passage of historic health care reform legislation by the U.S. House of Representatives, despite a symbolic gesture, in the form of an Executive Order, to anti-choice Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), which has diverted attention from the central goal of health care reform — controlling costs and extending coverage.

“As a trusted health care provider to millions of women and families across the country, Planned Parenthood applauds the fact that this legislation would extend health care coverage, including family planning, to tens of millions of women and families, guarantee access to affordable life-saving screenings for cervical and breast cancer and other serious health problems, protect women against gender discrimination by private insurers, end the practice of dropping coverage because of pre-existing conditions, and significantly increase access to reproductive health care. The proposal also includes a commonsense provision to expand family planning under Medicaid, which would significantly increase access to essential preventive health care for millions of women.

“As a result of this historic expansion of health care coverage to more than 30 million Americans, the doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals who work for Planned Parenthood health centers will be providing care to many more women, men, and families who will be seeking primary and preventive care.

“Planned Parenthood is also extremely pleased that members of the House listened to the millions of women and men who expressed their strong opposition to the Stupak abortion ban. Stopping the Stupak ban was a high priority for women across the country who rejected the notion that they would not be able to even use their own money to obtain private insurance coverage for abortion. It was a tough fight, but we salute Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D- CA), Congressman Rosa DeLauro (D–CT) , members of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, and all others who stood up for women’s health and women’s rights.

“Nonetheless, we regret that a pro-choice president of a pro-choice nation was forced to sign an Executive Order that further codifies the proposed anti-choice language in the health care reform bill, originally proposed by Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska. What the president’s executive order did not do is include the complete and total ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion that Congressman Bart Stupak (D–MI) had insisted upon. So while we regret that this proposed Executive Order has given the imprimatur of the president to Senator Nelson’s language, it is critically important to note that it does not include the Stupak abortion ban.

“This is a historic day for American people. We regret that a gesture to Congressman Stupak has diverted the nation’s focus from this bill’s accomplishments, including the extension of family planning to millions of women.”

Planned Parenthood has called abortion “Basic Health Care” – Abortion is plain and simply eugenics. In fact, Planned Parenthood itself was founded on eugenics. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and receives over $1 MILLION Dollars PER DAY from tax payers . Can you say GREEDY ? If you really want to see what the motive of groups like Planned Parenthood and the “Elitists” in the Federal Government are , just get a copy of a well documented film called: : Maafa21 Black Genocide in 21st Century America . The producers of Maafa21 went directly to the papers of Planned Parenthood, Founder Margaret Sanger, and The American Eugenics Society for their research. Maafa21, lays out the founder’s of Planned Parenthood’s eugenics and racist ideas using THEIR quotes, books, articles, video and audio on the screen. If you will watch Maafa21 you will see evidence that Margaret Sanger – founder of Planned Parenthood was a member of the American Eugenics Society and gave supportive speeches to the KKK and , as Sanger admitted in her own autobiography , she received at least a dozen additional speaking invitations from the Klan. THE KLAN ! Today, Planned Parenthood’s highest award is called the Margaret Sanger Award and notables like Hillary Clinton have been the recipients of this racist award of late. Shockingly, many other Planned Parenthood board members were also involved with the Eugenics Society, including Alan Guttmacher, who was at one time the Vice President of the AES. Maafa21 ( plays an actual tape of a former Planned Parenthood President admitting that Planned Parenthood knowingly receives donations from people who admit they want to wipe out the black race. Maafa21 ( also contains a stunning remark from Republican President Richard Nixon explaining in offensive racist language why people will “VOTE” for abortion – something you cannot miss ! I urge you to get a copy of this incredible film Maafa21 today.

Stupak called “Baby Killer” on house floor

Neugebauer says he called out ‘baby-killer’ as Stupak spoke on House floor

3/22/10 By Paul Kane

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Tex.) acknowledged Monday that he yelled out “baby killer” as Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) urged his fellow Democrats to vote down a Republican amendment on abortion services in the health-care legislation. Neugebauer said he has apologized to Stupak and his congressional colleagues for the remark.

“Last night was the climax of weeks and months of debate on a health-care bill that my constituents fear and do not support. In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase ‘it’s a baby killer’ in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership. While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself,” Neugebauer said in a statement.

“I have apologized to Mr. Stupak and also apologize to my colleagues for the manner in which I expressed my disappointment about the bill. The House Chamber is a place of decorum and respect. The timing and tone of my comment last night was inappropriate,” he added.

The remark had drawn immediate shouts of derision from the Democratic side of the aisle, as Stupak is considered the leading anti-abortion Democrat and held out his support for the legislation until President Obama issued an executive order restating the ban on federal funding of abortion.

Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.), initially suspected as the lawmaker who shouted the phrase, told reporters Sunday that he didn’t say it and believed that it came from a member sitting a row behind him, where the Texas Republicans usually sit. Campbell said he heard “a Southern accent”.

“The people who know won’t give it up,” Campbell told reporters.

He said the remark was “clear as a bell.”

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said he heard the remark and said it did come from in the area of where the Texas and California delegations sit. He said he believes he knows who yelled it, but declined to say anymore.

“I can make a guess,” Barton said.

Neugebauer represents a North Texas district and has co-sponsored a bill to require presidential candidates to produce birth certificates to prove their eligibility for office.

Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund Pledges to Drive Out Pro-life Betrayers in November

WASHINGTON, March 21 /Christian Newswire/ — In response to Rep. Bart Stupak’s announcement that he and other self-labeled “pro-life” Democrats will vote in favor of Healthcare reform legislation with the addition of an Executive Order from the White House to address concerns about abortion funding, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

“This Wednesday night is our third annual Campaign for Life Gala, where we were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform-we will no longer be doing so. By accepting this deal from the most pro-abortion President in American history, Stupak has not only failed to stand strong for unborn children, but also for his constituents and pro-life voters across the country.

“Let me be clear: any representative, including Rep. Stupak, who votes for this healthcare bill can no longer call themselves ‘pro-life.’ The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund will not endorse, or support in any capacity, any Member of Congress who votes for this bill in any future election. Now through Election Day 2010, these representatives will learn that votes have consequences. The SBA List Candidate Fund will work tirelessly to help defeat Members who support this legislation and make sure their constituents know exactly how they voted. We will actively seek out true pro-life candidates to oppose Members who vote ‘yes’ on this bill, whether it be in general or primary elections. For these Members, it will be a quick downhill slide to defeat in November.

“The executive order on abortion funding does absolutely nothing to fix the problems presented by the health care reform bill that the House will vote on this evening. The very idea should offend all pro-life Members of Congress. An executive order can be rescinded at any time at the President’s whim, and the courts could and have a history of trumping executive orders. Most importantly, pro-abortion Representatives have admitted the executive order is meaningless.”

Last night, Rep. DeGette told The Huffington Post, “If there was an executive order saying they weren’t going to use federal funds in the bill to pay for abortions that would be fine with me.”

Today, Rep. Wasserman Schultz admitted to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly that “an executive order cannot change the law.”

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops pointed out today that “only a change in the law enacted by Congress, not an executive order, can begin to address this very serious problem in the legislation.”

The Susan B. Anthony List has been leading the fight against abortion funding in health care reform for over a year, spending nearly $2 million on a grassroots campaign of targeted television and radio ads, 1.3 million automated calls, 70,000 patch-through constituent calls, 1.2 million letters and petitions to Congress, two media and grassroots tours in pro-life Democratic districts, television ads in six districts and comprehensive polling in 20 pro-life Democratic districts.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 280,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Reports: Pro-choice caucus agrees with language in executive order

Posted in Abortion, Health Care, Planned Parenthood with tags , , , , , , , , on March 21, 2010 by saynsumthn

Firedog lake blog is reporting that

According to the Huffington Post, Diana Degette has agreed, on behalf of the pro-choice caucus, to the language of an executive order that the President will issue to address Bart Stupak’s concerns regarding the health care bill.

The Washington Post confirms that “it is likely at the very least to restate Obama’s commitment to upholding the Hyde Amendment” — which would effectively make the Hyde amendment permanent, rather than having to be renewed each year in the Appropriations bill. DeGette says that she would “would support that option, so long as Stupak’s provision is not given another vote.”

Members of the pro-choice caucus have said they will take their cues from DeGette.

Degette has steadfastly refused to release the names of the pro-choice members of the caucus who signed her letter saying they “would not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts women’s right to choose any further than current law.”
