Abortion owner joked about fetus bonfire

A recently leaked tape recorded at a National Abortion Federation event captures one abortion owner joking about the need to burn the fetuses her clinic aborted in a field, something that another doctor actually did.

The comments came from Renee Chelian, owner of the Michigan abortion clinic chain, Northland Family Planning who also told her NAF audience that if it weren’t for the “PR nightmare” she thought it would be a “great idea” to burn the remains of aborted babies for energy. Sadly, using aborted children for energy is not a new idea. In 2014, CBS reported that an electricity generated in Oregon may have included aborted babies. And, a 2014 UK Telegraph report found that the remains of more than 15,000 babies were incinerated as ‘clinical waste’ by hospitals in Britain with some used in ‘waste to energy’ plants.

Earlier in the conversation, the abortion owner joked about wanting to take aborted babies from her clinic into a field and burn them. The trouble is, that idea has previously been carried out by another abortion doctor also making headlines this month.

Renee Chelian

In her speech, Chelian told the NAF audience the following:

“Um…Nobody wants to talk about dead bodies. Um, and nobody but me. I’m just saying. There was a point when Stericycle fired us that I had 5 months worth of fetal tissue in my freezers. We were renting freezers to put them in,” she says about her frustration over where to take her clinic’s aborted preborn babies for disposal.

Chelian continued, “It was all I thought about, was fetal tissue. Like, I was so consumed with fetal tissue, I was ready to drive to upper Michigan and have a bonfire. And I was just trying to figure out, you know, how I wouldn’t get stopped. Or, you know, how far into the woods would I have to go to have this fire that nobody was going to see me…I mean it was the worst, I dreamed about how to dispose of fetal tissue. And the garbage disposal was an option…”

Ironically, although Chelian joked about dumping fetuses somewhere in the woods and burning them, an Oklahoma abortion doctor once admitted doing that precise thing for the exact same reasons that Chelian outlined in her speech. In 1992, Dr. Nareshkumar Patel was investigated for burning a large amount of aborted children in a field near Shawnee.

From the Oklahoman:

“Patel has been the center of controversy repeatedly since getting his medical license in Oklahoma in May 1984. In the most notorious incident, he burned 55 aborted fetuses in 1992 in a field east of Shawnee. He was investigated over the incident but never charged.”

Well…not so fast.

A 1992 Toledo Blade article on Patel read this way, “Dr.Nareshkumar Patel, an obstetrician-gynecologist told authorities he burned the fetuses because he was having trouble finding someone to handle their disposal.” Did you hear that Renee Chelian? Patel has already disposed of aborted children in the sick way you suggested and guess what, he was never prosecuted for doing so. You just can’t make this stuff up!

In fact, the only reason charges were not brought against Patel at that time was because there were no laws on the books to prohibit the heinous act. “There’s no criminal law that can be applied,” District Attorney Miles Zimmerman said at the time.

Now, almost 23 years later, Patel has found himself in trouble again. This month, Patel was sentenced to several days in jail for performing abortions on women who were not pregnant. Patel, whose sordid history also includes accusations of sexual abuse, was ordered to serve 18 days at a correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Patel also agreed to pay a $20,000 fine and never practice medicine again nor own any interests in any more abortion facilities.

Unearthed audio has Senator telling abortion owner not to perjure herself regarding accusations of fetal harvesting

A leaked tape recorded by the Center for Medical Progress shows a Michigan abortion owner admitting that she once talked to “researchers” during her quest to find ways to dispose of the bodies of the babies her clinic aborted. Renee Chelian who operates the abortion clinic chain, Northland Family Planning Center, which performs abortions up to 24 weeks has previously denied under oath that her facility is involved in the harvesting of aborted babies.

Renee Chelian (Image link here)

In a secretly recorded speech given by Chelian before a Michigan National Abortion Federation member session Chelian jokes about how difficult it has been to expose of fetal tissue, laughingly suggesting to her audience that the disposal problem belongs to the women who pay her to abort their babies. (note, Chelian’s conversation begins at the end of one video and the beginning of another video.)

(Video 1 begin ) “We were really tempted to give the fetus back,” Chelian is heard saying in the audio.

(Video 2 begin at very beginning) “We can do that. Um, we thought, we’ll give it to everybody in a gift bag – they can take it home, figure out what to do with it. It’s their pregnancy and why is this our problem?”

Below is video of what the abortion owner told the NAF audience next:

At approximately 3:49 into the video above you can hear Chelian say, I talked to the researchers and they said we want your tissue, we don’t want all of your tissue.”

She later states (9:27 ) , “What ever you’re doing now there’s not a research company that will take all of our fetal tissue because they don’t want it all. And…you know this is an issue we are going to have to grapple with.”

Additional comments in the video are transcribed here:

(Begin 2:05)

“So in coalition, we started working with hospitals who didn’t want to be seen with us. We met them in like Denny’s restaurant, there’s not even many of those left…We talked about you know what are you guys going to do. They were terrified of a public relations nightmare. That hospital actually had big freezers with breasts and kneecaps and gallbladders and abortions or miscarriages. Um and they put all their jars together, at some point. and they go to Stericycle unless the hospital happens to have their incinerator which is rarer and rarer. The guy from Stericycle was quick to point that out to me.

“Um…Nobody wants to talk about dead bodies. Um, and nobody but me. I’m just saying. There was a point when Stericycle fired us that I had 5 months worth of fetal tissue in my freezers. We were renting freezers to put them in. It was all I thought about, was fetal tissue.

“There was a point where I actually hired someone from another clinic to come in and take 20 bottles and put it my garbage disposal. And I had to fess up to my staff that I did the thing I’ve been criticizing what all these other clinics are doing but I didn’t know what else to do. I was so desperate, that the antis found a way to close us.”

Renee Chelian Thumb

However, in recorded testimony provided by pro-life activist Lynn Mills, Chelian once called a Michigan Senator a liar after he insinuated her clinic might be involved in fetal tissue harvesting. Chelian appeared before the State Senate Committee in 2012 to oppose any abortion restrictions in the state. Michigan Senator Rick Jones then grilled the clinic owner over whether there was a lab that would harvest fetal parts at her abortion clinic. He said he was contacted by a witness who told him the abortion clinic had attempted to convince her to give an “anatomical donation.”

Have you ever suggested to patients or anybody in your office, your clinics suggest to patients that they could have a late-term abortion and then make an anatomical donation of part of the aborted baby?” Senator Jones asked Chelian.

Chelian then pauses before she finally responds by saying, “No.”

Senator Jones then reminds Chelian she could perjure herself if she is not being truthful, stating, I’d ask you not to perjure yourself. There are witnesses.”

Chelian continues to deny the charges brought up by Senator Jones several more times.

At the time of her testimony, MLive.com reported the exchange this way:

Jones and Renee Chelian of Northland Family Planning Centers in southeast Michigan got into a testy exchange. Jones asked if the clinic had ever suggested to patients that they could have a “late-term abortion” and then make an “anatomical donation.” Jones asked if the clinic allowed a lab to “harvest parts.” Chelian said “no” in both cases and called Jones a “liar.”

Let’s recap – Chilean says this in CMP’s undercover sting:

I talked to the researchers and they said we want your tissue, we don’t want all of your tissue.”

And denied being involved in fetal research before the Senate panel in 2012.

This would not be the first time an abortion worker has denied that they took part in fetal harvesting in the past,” says Mills.

However, while Chelian has admitted that her clinics have problems disposing of all the “fetal tissue” i.e. remains of human preborn children, and that she has talked to researchers, she has denied that her abortion chain has had any involvement in fetal tissue harvesting. While we have no way to know whether all or some of Chilean’s admissions are true or not, we do know that these undercover videos recorded by the Center for Medical Progress are exposing the attitude and in some cases horrific actions of the abortion industry.

Listen to the Audio from the 2012 exchange between Chelian and Senator Jones and read a portion of their exchange transcribed below:

Chelian: Well, first of all, I find you rather insulting.
Jones: Isn’t it true that you have a private lab to show up at your clinic to harvest parts?
Chelian: No! And sir, you are a liar!
Jones: No, I’m simply relating what witnesses have brought in.
Chelian: Well, you know, that is part of the problem with this bill is once again.
You have never taken the time to find out the facts because you are 100% wrong. I hope you are embarrassed and you’ll take that back to whoever gave you that information.
Jones: Well, I understand that you do routine gynecological tests for people 39 years old and younger but if they’re older than that, you won’t provide them; yet you will provide abortions.
Chelian: We provide routine gynecological care for the healthy younger population because we’re not specialists in menopause. And we don’t pretend to be specialists in something we’re not. Many doctors offices are specialists in menopausal care and generally after 39, it’s pre-menopausal and then going into postmenopausal care. That doesn’t have anything to do with the good gynecology care that we offer.
Jones: So you deny having LabCore and other groups come to your clinics to collect parts?
Chelian: We use LabCore when we want and any other lab when we suspect an ectopic pregnancy or a molar pregnancy. I’m not sure since you’re not a medical person that you know what that is and I would be happy to tell you if you would like to know. But those are medical problems that pathologists need to look at abortion tissue for. That is not what you suggested. That is in the continuum of good medical care.
Jones: Well, isn’t it true that they come when the babies are 14 to 24 weeks
Chelian: It is true that they come when we call them.
Jones: On Thursdays and Saturdays.
Chelian: You know, actually we do abortions more days than that. So you don’t have that right, either. They come…
Jones: Just the late-term ones.
Chelian: No, and actually we don’t really suspect an ectopic pregnancy in a late-term abortion. You really suspect an ectopic pregnancy when someone is early. Usually under 8 or 9 weeks and the patient, you, the patient, the amount of tissue that you obtain may be inconsistent with what you believe is the correct number of weeks and then we do a tissue float. Then we send it out to a lab and depending on what we find from the tissue float and beta which also goes out to a lab, you know it’s a blood test to measure hcg level. We can advise the patient to seek immediate care in a hospital. Or with her private doctor for the possible ectopic pregnancy or the discovery of a molar pregnancy, which is a pre-cancerous condition in which she needs to be followed up
with a doctor for about a year. Those are reasons that we use pathology labs – not as you …
Jones: Thank you for your testimony, Renee. I spoke yesterday with a witness who…
Chelian: Well, did you speak ? Did you call me…
Jones: spoke with your clinic and your clinic suggested that …
Chelian: Did you call me? Did you call..
Jones: a late term abortion they should make a …
Chelian: Sir, I suggest
Jones: an anatomical donation.
Chelian: You’re lying. Because…
Jones: No, I’m not. I spoke with …
Chelian: Well then your witness is lying. And if you would have picked up the phone and called me or the person who runs any one of my offices, and actually asked a question, honestly, instead of relying on some right to life flunky, with an agenda, who would lie to you because actually you should feel quite foolish right now. That is a lie. You were given false information and you’re accusing me of something, of doing something, based on your inability to get accurate information. I’m insulted
Jones: Renee, thank you for your testimony.

Renee Chelian Partial Birth Abortion 2

Renee CHelian Partial Birth Abortion

Chelian is a former head of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers. She was once called to task after her NCAP group’s executive director admitted that he intentionally misled the media about the numbers of partial birth abortions performed on healthy women. Ron Fitzsimmons, a spokesperson for NCAPS later said that he “lied through my teeth” when he stated that the late term abortion procedure was rarely performed only on women whose lives were in danger or in the case of the health of the preborn child. “It made me physically ill,” Fitzsimmons said.

‘The abortion-rights folks know it, the anti-abortion folks know it, and so, probably, does everyone else,” he said in an article in the Medical News, an American Medical Association publication.

Facebook blocks post on Planned Parenthood’s grisly baby part sales as Carly Fiorina calls it an outrage

2016 presidential hopeful and the only GOP female contender in the race, Carly Fiorina, has spoken out against Planned Parenthood selling aborted baby parts.

In post on her Facebook page, Fiorina writes, “I am proudly pro-life. I believe that every human life has potential and that every human life is precious. This latest news is tragic and outrageous. This isn’t about “choice.” It’s about profiting on the death of the unborn while telling women it’s about empowerment.

The shocking details of the body parts investigation was revealed today by the Center for Medical Progress.

The video uploaded by the group showed a Planned Parenthood doctor who believed that she was at a business lunch with buyers from a human biologics company. Instead, she was speaking openly with investigative “actors” from the Center for Medical Progress.

The conversation detailed pricing as well as how the abortion giant would extract fetal body parts including hearts, lungs, and livers among others.

The shocking three year undercover investigation, dubbed the “Human Capital Project”, was conducted by the The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) and directed by CMP project lead David Daleiden who says he much more to release.

Of course, rather than being outraged as most Americans are with selling aborted baby parts, one abortion advocate on Carly’s page posted this:

Carly, what about aborting in the case of rape? What is your stance on that? BTW… Planned Parenthood does a lot more than JUST abortions. How many abortions are done at the medical group you have your medical care?

The statement was quickly rebuffed by pro-lifers:

Meanwhile, Dr. Russell Moore who is the Dean of the School of Theology and Senior Vice-President for Academic Administration at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary claims that Facebook blocked his post about the grisly operation.

He then sent out this message, “Dear @Facebook, what is “abusive” about protesting Planned Parenthood’s human trafficking?”

Russell Moore Facebook blocked Planned Parenthood

Facebook has now permitted Dr. Moore’s article.

On his blog, detailing his shock at the video and what it detailed, Dr. Moore wrote this, For years, many of us have called on government leaders to see to it that no taxpayer funds, of any kind, go to Planned Parenthood. Is it not clear that these are not health-care providers but pirates and grave-robbers of those who have no graves? The Department of Justice and the United States Congress should undertake a thorough investigation of this.”

Meat Grinder Abortion

In a letter written by abortion doctor: Curtis Stover to the Colorado Department of Health, he accused another abortion doctor, James J. Parks of improper disposal of the aborted babies. Stover claimed that Parks who ran the Mayfair Women’s Center was placing aborted babies up to 22 weeks gestation in an “outside trash container”, because he said that the babies would, “clog up his commode”.

Stover also accused Parks of, “assembling an old fashioned meat grinder” and using it to grind the fetuses up on a daily basis.

10-SS-meat-grinder

In his official affidavit, Stover gave this eyewitness testimony, “At the end of the workday, Dr. James J Parks the owner of the Mayfair Women’s Center demonstrated to me this method of fetal disposal. We went into a utility room that was used for such things as sterilizing instruments. On the countertop were several white plastic buckets, each containing fetuses from about 15 to 22 weeks size. Dr. Parks reached up to a shelf and brought down several pieces of metal that were parts of a meat grinder and placed them on the counter. Next, he assembled the grinder and clamped it to the countertop. As I looked at the grinder, I realized that it was very old and resembled the same meat grinder my mother used years ago to grind meat into hamburger meat. Dr. Parks then began to empty each bucket into the hopper on top of the grinder, and with his left hand pressed the fetal tissue down into the hopper as he turned the handle with his right hand, grinding the tissue. As he did this the tissue oozed out of the end of the grinder like multiple tubes of pink toothpaste. Though I have seen many disturbing and unsightly things in my 20 years of medical experience, I was not prepared for this. I became instantly nauseated and vomited. All the fetuses were ground into a large bucket, he dumped the contents into the sink and washed it down the sink with water.”

In November of 1989, a Dr. James J. Parks of Denver, was mentioned in a New York Times article entitled More U.S. Curbs Urged in the Use Of Fetal Tissue. The Times said he supplied fetal tissue free to researchers at the University of Colorado.

This week we detailed the complaint that Operation Rescue filed against sleezy abortion doc Nareshkumar Patel.

Pateltaunts

Today, Oklahoma’s News9 is reporting on that story:

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s office confirms it is investigating a complaint against an Oklahoma doctor that was brought to their attention by a pro-life group.

The group, called Operation Rescue out of Wichita, Kansas, claims the doctor has dumped medical waste and sensitive medical information into its dumpsters.

Patel March 2014 News

And in a six page letter they sent to the Attorney General in January, they claim the doctor has a blatant disregard for his patients, their private medical information and the law.

“What we see is despicable,” said Troy Newman, the executive director of Operation Rescue. “We have countless people that have come forward.”

Newman says on Tuesday, they received confirmation from the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office that they are indeed investigating the claims. He also received confirmation from the state’s Medical Licensure Board last month that they are reviewing the claims as well.

Troy Newmany Patel News March 2014

“I have stacks and reams of private medical information, that needs to be put in the right hands,” said Newman. “Because this man is just disregarding state law and privacy concerns.”

In their letter to the attorney general, Operation Rescue claims Dr. Nareshkumar Patel and the Outpatient Services for Women clinic on N.W. 63rd Street violated the law a number of ways including:

dumping confidential medical records,
not reporting abortions they have performed,
improperly disposing medical waste,
failing to protect and properly dispose of employment applications,
and failing to observe the 24 hour voluntary and informed consent rule.
“And we have dozens and dozens of his former patients records,” said Newman. “These are the most private, the most secure, most sensitive pieces of information. And that shows a callous disregard for the patients and the integrity of his medical practice.”

Newman claims all of these records have come from confidential sources, and were brought to their attention last March.

“Mostly they come out of the trash receptacles,” said Newman. “Some of the most private information a person can have should not be disposed of into a place that is just open for public scrutiny.”

News 9 did reach out to Dr. Patel and the clinic for comment. They did not return our calls.

Back in 1994, Dr. Patel was put on trial on allegations he sexually assaulted some of his patients, but a jury found him not guilty and acquitted him of all charges. A search of News 9 archives also reveal Patel made national news in 1992, for admitting he dumped and burned fetuses in a field near Shawnee. The board later dismissed the complaint on that matter.

Fetuses in Field

Mike Haley, the regional director of Operation Rescue National, called the dumping and burning of the fetuses “an outrage on our society” and likened the activities to the Nazi death camps.

Patel said he and his office manager had tried to find a waste disposal company to take the fetuses after Seminole Municipal Hospital told him on Sept. 5, 1990, that he no longer could use its incinerator.

He testified he took two boxes of fetuses from the clinic on April 14 after a storage room became too full. He acknowledged there could have been as many as 1,000 fetuses in the room.

Patel said he and his office manager took the fetuses to an abandoned recreational vehicle park he owned near Shawnee and he set fire to them on a gravel road.

“We stayed until the fire was completely burned off,” he said.

“Just looking from the headlights of my car, it looked like everything was burned off, the fire was burned off, everything was covered with ash. … Still we decided that we would go back there … the next day after work was over to make sure it was completely burned off. ” But, he said, two trespassers discovered the fetuses on his fenced property April 15, before he could return.

“If I had known that there would be so much unnecessary publicity, I would have never done it,” he said.

He said he now has a contract, signed April 16 – the day after the fetuses were found – with American Medical Disposal Inc. of Oklahoma City to dispose of the fetuses. He said his office manager again called waste disposal clinics after the publicity began.

Patel admitted burning the fetuses and said of the burnings, “We took only one small amount. This was the first time we were trying. We wanted to see if it would be all right. … to see if we could dispose of it completely or not. ”

Medical examiners determined that one fetus was 21 weeks old and “the other remains were all of 16 weeks gestation or less. ” An autopsy report noted: “The multiple fetal parts that are identifiable consist of … a definite 53 right hands, 47 left hands, 51 right feet and 55 left feet. This is used to determine a minimum number of grossly recognizable human fetuses of 55.

Doctors determined the remains had been kept in formaldehyde before their disposal.

An autopsy report listed the abortion on the 21-week-old fetus as a homicide but chief medical examiner Fred Jordan said, “We do not believe that the 21-week fetus was at a stage of development whereby it could have independently survived outside the mother. ” No criminal charges were filed.

Patel also was disciplined at the June 1990 hearing for failing to keep accurate records on prescription drugs. That ruling was upheld.

Patel moved his first Warr Acres clinic after a legal fuss with his landlord. The landlord had terminated Patel’s lease in 1989 after an air-conditioning repairman complained of finding “babies in bottles” in the attic above the clinic.

Patel has told authorities that he keeps the fetuses for up to seven months before disposal.

1990

In 1992, a witness testified in one case in Oklahoma County District Court that Patel performs as many as 20 abortions “on any given Saturday,” at his Oklahoma City clinic. Medical records obtained from the state licensure board confirmed those numbers.

The woman, a medical assistant who worked at the Oklahoma City clinic and occasionally at the Shawnee clinic, also testified that Patel kept fetal tissue from completed abortions stored in both clinics until it was destroyed.

“We put them in boxes and date them. And he takes so many,” said the witness, identified in court documents as medical assistant Nancy J. Standerfer.

He was ordered to pay $240,000 in damages after an Oklahoma County judge ruled in favor of a 15-year-old girl left permanently injured following an attempted abortion in June 1989.

The state medical board reprimanded Patel on June 9, 1990, “for a procedure done in an unprofessional manner in an unprofessional setting. ” That reprimand was later overturned after he appealed to the state Supreme Court.

Standerfer, the medical assistant who witnessed the 1989 abortion attempt on the 15-year-old girl, described how she saw Patel “pull out some tissue and take it in his hands. ” Then the woman testified she heard Patel say, “‘That’s her small intestine,’ and he put it all inside … ” The doctor then told his assistant to call an ambulance and the girl was rushed to Oklahoma Memorial Hospital. She later underwent emergency surgery for a perforated uterus, where a male fetus was found floating in blood inside her abdominal cavity.

Eventually, the girl’s fallopian tubes, ovaries, and a portion of her colon were removed, and a temporary colostomy was performed.

In a separate incident, medical authorities said Patel was accused of abandoning a patient.

No action was taken in that case “because there was not enough evidence presented to make a finding on the claim,” said Daniel Gamino, attorney for the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

A lawsuit filed by Terrell Dockery of Shawnee in April 1990 against Patel was dismissed by mutual agreement. Dockery said Patel wanted to induce labor in January 1989 about two weeks before her delivery date so he could go to India for a vacation.

She agreed, but she said he rushed through the delivery and neglected to suture a tear caused by the birth. She claimed she bled excessively and suffered an infection “because of him and his greed,” and he was not available to help her.

She asked for $20,000 damages, and Patel filed a counterclaim for $355 he said she still owed him, records show. Patel produced hospital records showing he sutured the woman for a 1 1/2-centimeter (.6 inch) tear after delivery and again during the night when the suture line began bleeding.

1993

In 1993, NEWSOK reported that a lawsuit filed in Oklahoma County District Court by Ashley Trent alleges Patel was negligent in treating her following an April abortion. Trent is asking for $10,000 in actual damages and $500,000 in punitive damages.

Patel was released on $100,000 bond after he was charged with one count each of forcible oral sodomy and sexual battery. The alleged victim in the criminal charge also is a former patient, but the two cases are unrelated.

Patel is accused of calling Trent on April 29 and asking her to meet with him under the guise of discussing her mental condition following the mid-April abortion.

Trent agreed to meet Patel at a predetermined location, got into his car, and rode with him to Lake Stanley Draper. There, the lawsuit says, the doctor attempted to grab and kiss Trent.

The lawsuit also alleges that Patel failed to make a thorough examination of Trent and took advantage of her “known mental and emotional status” when he forced himself upon her.

The criminal charges stem from a March 25 incident in which a patient alleged Patel tried to kiss and fondle her while she lay nude and sedated on an examination table.

A judge initially set bond at $500,000, after prosecutors argued that Patel was a flight risk because he had airline tickets to India. The amount later was lowered to $100,000 when Thomas convinced a second judge the higher amount was unreasonable.

In 1994, Patel was found not guilty in the sexual assault of the 25 year old female patient.

In that case another woman testified Tuesday that she had been a patient of Patel’s in 1989 and had been raped by him while under sedation at the Warr Acres clinic. The woman, then 19, admits she never told anyone of the alleged attack until five years later.

Patel testified he never had sex with any of the patients. He testified the woman whose allegations led to the charges had wanted to date him and would call him four times a week.

The woman taped telephone conversations between her and Patel and on one recording he apologized to her.

Patel said he “was so tired of her calling, I would say anything to get her to stop. ” Patel’s attorney, D.C. Thomas, claims the woman tried to set up Patel for the purpose of filing a $5 million civil lawsuit against him.

In 1994, A Pottawatomie County jury found in favor of Dr. Nareshkumar Gandalal Patel, who had been sued by Rochelle Brown, a former worker in his Shawnee office.

Brown sought $200,000 in damages, claiming in part that Patel repeatedly touched her breasts and buttocks in a Chicago hotel room in November 1990. The woman testified she was surprised upon their arrival to learn that Patel had reserved only one room, said her attorney, James Branum.

Brown testified that she quit her job after returning to Shawnee, but that Patel convinced her to return to work two months later, Branum said.

She claimed that Patel assaulted her again in January 1991.

Patel went to medical school in India, entering when he was 17 and finishing when he was 21. “Over there,” he said in a 1990 deposition, “doctors are considered as God. ” He moved to the United States in 1978 and had further medical training at a New Jersey hospital before moving to Oklahoma in mid-1984.

Operation Rescue files complaint against abortionist who was once accused of rape, sodomy, and dumping fetuses

PateltauntsMillionaire Oklahoma abortionist Nareshkumar Gandalal “Naresh” Patel, who once faced charges of raping and sodomizing his abortion patients, is once again under investigation after Operation Rescue filed a five-count complaint against him with the State Attorney General’s office, the Oklahoma Health Department, and the Oklahoma Medical Board.

The complaints were based on documents and medical waste that had been discarded in a publicly-accessible trash receptacle near Patel’s Outpatient Services for Women abortion clinic in Oklahoma City. The material was received by Operation Rescue from an anonymous source on March 18, 2013.

Allegations include:

1. Record-keeping violations and improper disposal of confidential information.
2. Mandatory reporting violations.
3. Improper disposal of medical waste.
4. Failure to protect and properly dispose of employment applications.
5. Failure to observe 24-hour voluntary and informed consent.

Patel is an abortionist with a long and particularly horrific history of Medical Board disciplinary actions, malpractice claims, and criminal cases. Nevertheless, financial documents found amid the medical records and waste indicate that Patel owns $39.4 million in real estate. His personal income exceeds $1.4 million annually. His net worth is listed at $28 million.

“It’s appalling that Patel has lined his pockets by taking innocent life while flouting the law and cutting corners on women’s health,” said Newman. “Frankly, it’s despicable.”

Board discipline

In 1990, Patel was disciplined by the Oklahoma Medical Board for Unprofessional Conduct for “failing to maintain dispensing records for dangerous drugs and keep complete and accurate records of purchase and dispensing of controlled drugs.”

Records show he was also disciplined for botching an abortion in 1989. Medical Board documents state that Patel “did perform a surgical procedure on patient E.S.B., and said procedure was performed in an unprofessional manner and unprofessional setting.”

Unfortunately, Patel appealed to the Oklahoma Supreme Court, which struck the botched abortion charge from Patel’s record, allowing only the charge of failing to maintain proper drug records to stand.

In 1992, the State of Ohio issued a reprimand of Patel based on Oklahoma’s actions.

History of dumping aborted baby remains

Fetuses in Field

In 1993, Patel admitted that he dumped the remains of nearly 60 babies that had been aborted at his clinic in a field near Shawnee, Kansas, and had attempted to burn them but only the plastic bags around the remains caught on fire. The bodies were discovered by two passers-by. Patel’s excuse that he could not find a service to take away the remains lacked credibility. Because at that time there were no laws in Oklahoma regarding the disposal of aborted baby remains, Patel was never charged.

As this blog has already reported:

In March of 1993, Abortion doctor Nareshkumar Patel of Shawnee, Oklahoma was accused of Forcible Oral Sodomy and sexual battery by a patient he was treating after hours in his clinic. Patel was also the focus of a controversy in 1992 when several aborted fetuses from his clinic were found partially burned in an open field owned by Patel. Officials could not cite any law that prohibited the burning of aborted fetuses in that manner and those charges were dropped. Abortionist accused of sodomy and rape

According to the Daily Oklahoman (Abortion Doctor Denies Sex Charges: 9/20/1994), Oklahoma abortion doctor Nareshkumar Patel, 42, was charged in Oklahoma County District Court with one count of forcible oral sodomy and one count of sexual battery in an alleged 1993 sexual assault on a patient.

Patel denied that he had sexually abused any of his patients.

The 25-year-old victim testified that Patel attempted to force her to sodomize him after she had been sedated. Two other women previously testified Patel had raped them after he had administered an anesthetic to them.

However, Patel was not charged in those attacks because they allegedly happened in 1989 and 1990. They came forward only after Patel was charged in 1993.

A September 16,1994 article in the same paper, Ex-Patient Claims Rape By Patel Before Abortion, reports that a 26-year-old Moore woman testified that Patel raped her in 1990 shortly before performing an abortion on her. The woman testified that Dr. Patel prepared her for an abortion by sedating her, then raped her on the surgical table. After the assault, Patel began the abortion procedure, the woman testified.

Another woman testified that she had been a patient of Patel’s in 1989 and also had been raped by him under similar circumstances. The woman, then 19, also did not report the alleged attack to law enforcement because she “felt dirty.”

Patel denied all the charges and some of his staff testified that he was never alone with female patients. However, Rochelle Brown, a former employee of Patel’s at his Shawnee clinic, claimed Patel often would conduct pelvic examinations on female patients with no nurse present.

Examples from OR’s post:

Second patient’s testimony

The second women to come forward alleged that after she was drugged, she was taken to an examination room and put on a table. She said she heard him unzip his pants and saw him pull them down.

“I felt Dr. Patel enter my rectum with his penis,” she said in response to questioning. She indicated that when he finished sodomizing her, he completed her abortion. When she began to come to afterwards, she told the court, “His penis was in my mouth.”

Once fully awake from the sedation, the victim said she was in “severe pain” and bleeding heavily. It was later that she discovered, “I had a tampon in my vagina, and I had a tampon in my rectum.”

Third patient’s testimony

The third patient to make allegations came forward after hearing news reports about Patel and allegations of sexual abuse made by another woman. She noted that she was injected with an unknown drug, after which claimed Paten began to fondle her breasts. While on the examination table, she said, “I heard the zipper of his pants, and he started moving back and forth. And I felt the pressure inside of me.” In response to questioning she indicated that the sensation was in her vagina.

After having his way with her, Patel allegedly called a nurse into the room and completed an abortion on the woman.

Patel was somehow acquitted by the jury that heard this graphic testimony.

“Again and again, Patel has slipped away without consequences. If he really did what the women say, it is an atrocity that he got away with it. What is more disturbing is that Patel continues to be in a position where further abuse of this nature can occur,” said Newman. “People who are sexual deviants just don’t change overnight.”

But that was far from then end of allegations against Patel.

Complaint centers on:

Privacy rights trashed

After analyzing the material from Patel’s abortion clinic trash receptacle, Operation Rescue determined that violations had occurred and filed the appropriate complaints.

Operation Rescue submitted copies of dozens of documents from Patel and Outpatient Services for Women that included original patient consent forms, signed procedure logs, appointment calendars, financial information, and competed abortion forms, all containing patient names, contact information, and other identifying data.

“Abortion clinics claim to be concerned about patient privacy, yet we have found that abortion clinics are among the most negligent when it comes to disposing of detailed patient information,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue. “Women who get abortions should pretty much expect their contact information, medical records, and financial information to end up where it can be easily accessed by the public, thanks to shoddy abortion clinic practices.”

Failure to report

Also discovered among the cache of documents received by Operation Rescue were numerous original Individual Abortion Forms. Oklahoma requires that abortion clinics report each abortion that is done. The presence of the completed forms in the trash indicate that these abortions may not have been reported and that further investigation is required.

Failing to report abortions within 30 days of the abortion is a crime in Oklahoma punishable with a $500 fine per report.

Bloody refuse

laminaria

Operation Rescue submitted photos to the authorities that showed several large bloody sticks of laminaria dilators that had been improperly discarded along with other bloody refuse from what appeared to be a second trimester abortion. Also discarded with the bloody trash was a blood-stained broken tenaculum, which is a scissor-like grasping instrument.

The discarded laminaria and broken tenaculum both fall within Oklahoma Administrative Code 252:515-23 that prohibits “the improper disposal of regulated medical waste, including untreated sharps and items contaminated with blood or other human body fluids.”

Reporters spent a day at the abortion clinic of abortionist, Dennis Christensen. What they discovered during that visit was published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on April 11,1999, in an article entitled, Performing an abortion a 3-minute procedure.

This quote by the reporter came from that story, “Occasionally, a patient will want to see what he’s removed from her uterus. If he and the counselors think it will help her emotionally with her decision to terminate the pregnancy, they’ll allow it.

Otherwise, they advise against it. After a procedure is over, the patient is scheduled for a follow-up checkup.

Her uterine contents are handled the same way they would be at any hospital and clinic. They go down the drain, into a garbage disposal.”
