CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Teams, a volunteer organization that helps train members of the public how to respond during an emergency or disaster. In Denton County, Texas, CERT members also respond in disasters, they help in shelters and they do a lot of public education.

According to their website:

The American Humane Hero Dog Awards® are an annual, nationwide competition that searches out and recognizes America’s Hero Dogs – often ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things, whether it’s saving lives on the battlefield, lending sight or hearing to a human companion, or simply providing the tail-wagging welcome a pet owner relishes at the end of a hard day. Dogs compete in seven different categories for the Hero Dog Awards: Law Enforcement/Arson DogsService DogsTherapy DogsMilitary DogsSearch and Rescue DogsGuide/Hearing Dogs, and Emerging Hero Dogs (the category for “ordinary” dogs who do extraordinary things). The Hero Dog Awards celebrate the powerful, age-old bond between dogs and people – and give recognition to courageous acts of heroism performed by our four-legged best friends.

After voting by the American public, winners in each category are flown to Hollywood with their human friends to attend the American Humane Hero Dog Awards® gala in Los Angeles. There they walk the red carpet, are recognized in video tributes, receive their Hero Dog category award statue and mingle with celebrities, both two-legged and four-legged! The 2018 American Hero Dog will then be announced to the world.

Buster CERT Canine and Hero Dog

When Buster was rescued, his owner had just lost her 12 year-old Golden Retriever, which was the CERT organization’s first canine. Three hours later, while walking around the local animal shelter, Buster’s owner fell in love with his chill style and adorable eyes. Immediately, Buster was doing the work of educating the community. He was on stage at a local emergency event within days, and within weeks he was moulaged in a disaster drill for first reponders.

Buster would like to help the public remember to have a Pet Preparedness Plan and to remind volunteers and responders about animal behavior in a disaster. But, Buster needs as many VOTES as he can get – you can VOTE every day until April 25th here: http://herodogawards.org/dog/buster/  .

Buster is a HERO DOG

All you need to do is look at the many disasters the nation has seen and just how emotional it is when a human has to leave their animal family member behind.

Buster says – NO MORE!

If Buster can get to Los Angeles and be on the Hallmark Channel special, he can remind the public to develop a pet preparedness plan. But, that is not all.

It is also important to understand how animals may react when under stress. Buster, through the CERT program, helps to train the community how to identify animal behavior during these events. This enables those assisting their neighbors to avoid potential injuries from pets or wildlife located in the disaster area.

It is very important to:

  • Make sure each pet’s tags are up-to-date and fastened to its collar.
  • Have a current photo of you and your pet(s) for identification purposes.
  • Make a pet emergency kit.
  • Identify shelters in advance that will allow your pets.
  • Have a secure pet carrier, leash, or harness for your pet.

Buster is also a therapy dog.

Buster visits nursing homes, behavior hospitals, military service members struggling with PTSD, trauma victims and youth.

He has also participated in the Special Olympics to bring therapy comfort to participants.

Buster LOVES people – and he LOVES CERT.

Everywhere Buster goes he makes people smile. He takes time with them and brings joy into their lives.

Buster is a terrific dog who works diligently week after week with both voluntary organizations to serve the community.

We think Buster would be a great ambassador for the CERT message and a wonderful HERO DOG.

The great news is that if Buster wins, he will help get donations for a terrific organization, called Dogs on Deployment, which helps provide foster care for the pets of Military service people when they are deployed.

Please consider voting for Buster (daily) until April 25, 2018. After this, a new round of winners will be selected for the final run off-so stay tuned.
