Trump calls to defund “abortion factory” Planned Parenthood
GOP lead presidential contender Donald Trump has referred to Planned Parenthood as an “abortion factory” and is now calling for them to be defunded.
This comes as Congress begins to debate the issue.
“The biggest problem I have with Planned Parenthood is the abortion situation. I mean it’s like an abortion factory frankly and you can’t have it! And You just shouldn’t be funding it. It should not be funded by the government,” Trump said previously on CNN’s “New Day.”
Tiesday, on Fox’s Bill O’Reilly show, Trump emphasized his called for Planned Parenthood to be defunded:
“I’m not supporting Planned Parenthood…I’m against Planned Parenthood…totally against. I’m against it…A lot of people say its an abortion clinic I’m opposed to that. I wouldn’t do any funding as long as they’re doing abortions and they are performing abortions so I would be totally opposed to funding,” he said.
In early August, the Senate failed in their effort to stop the use of taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood. Instead, Republican leadership blocked a recorded vote on amendments to defund Planned Parenthood. The call for defunding reached a crescendo following the release of several videos by The Center for Medical Progress, exposing Planned Parenthood’s horrific operation of baby parts harvesting.
At the time of the Senate’s failure to defund, Senator Ted Cruz, (R-Texas) a 2016 GOP candidate for President, vowed not to give up the fight to remove taxpayer dollars from the baby parts harvesting business. He stated:
Although the effort to reach cloture on a standalone bill failed tonight, this should not deter us in the fight to eliminate taxpayers’ funds being used to bankroll the abortion industry and what appears to be the ongoing criminal organization of Planned Parenthood.
That fight has arrived.
Shortly before their August break, Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, along with 17 other Members, sent a letter to House Republican Leadership requesting that Planned Parenthood be defunded through every available measure. “The letter sends the message to GOP leadership that we won’t support anything that provides taxpayer $ for PP #DefundPlannedParenthood,” he tweeted.
In addition, Sen. Cruz reportedly plans to send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) urging him not to schedule a vote on legislation that continues to fund Planned Parenthood.
Sen. Cruz told the One America Network:
We have Republican majorities in both Houses. In my view we should act like it. And we should stand together and say we are going to fund the entire federal government but we’re not going to fund the ongoing murder and the sale of the body parts of unborn children.
Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the nation and received $528.4 million dollars from the taxpayers, according to Planned Parenthood’s 2013/2014 annual report.
The “abortion factory” as Trump described them has been under scrutiny, after the CMP videos accused Planned Parenthood of selling baby body parts, a violation of federal law. The abortion behemoth has also been exposed covering for the rape and sexual assault of children and has come under fire in several states for medicaid fraud.
“Absolutely they [Planned Parenthood] should be defunded…the answer is in my opinion they should absolutely be defunded…In the case of PP anybody who watched these videos…its very sad to watch it…I thought it was a disgrace.” Trump told The Blaze’s Dana Loesch in July.
Despite all the evidence piling up against Planned Parenthood, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled that he will not bring a vote to the senate floor to defund Planned Parenthood, because, “the President has made it very clear he’s not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood.”
But pro-lifers say this is a cop-out. We continue to demand that Congress move forward to defund Planned Parenthood.
