Maryland abortionist Harold Alexander is crying fowl to the news media after the state suspended his medical license.

Alexander is an abortionist who has been in trouble more than once.

Alexander worked with notorious abortionist James Pendergraft, and Operation rescue called his most recent action a “slap on the wrist”. Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue said that Harold O. Alexander was operating an illegal late term abortion clinic along with Pendergraft while on probation for botched abortions and improper sexual advances.

During this time, the state had passed regulations requiring abortion clinics to be licensed. When Operation Rescue discovered Alexander’s clinic was never licensed, they filed a complaint with Medical Board and Board of Health Care Quality, who performed an inspection and confirmed the information. The state also found that Alexander was using unlicensed personal to do anesthesia and wasn’t monitoring women in recovery. As a result in the most recent action, Alexander has received a three month suspension and supervised three year probation.

ABC7’s news team spoke to the abortionist, “The pro-life element has targeted me, and they continue to target me,” Alexander said.

Any physician who performs abortions in the United States is likely to be a target of this far-right element,” Alexander told ABC7.

But, a review of the Maryland Board of Physicians website states Alexander’s license was suspended for “unprofessional conduct,” and states he “trained employees to administer sedating medications…[and] neither were licensed.” (read order here)

Alexander denies the allegations.

Never, never happened. Was not true,” he said. “I have never in 30 years of practicing – I have never allowed anyone who was not licensed to administer any type of intravenous medication.”

2014 Suspencion

Operation Rescue has responded to the accusations by Alexander here.

Here is how Operation Rescue reported the April 2014 Medical Board Action:

Maryland abortionist Harold O. Alexander has once again had his medical license suspended for three months, according to a consent order issued by the Maryland Board of Physicians (MDBP) on April 16, 2014. The suspension is Alexander’s second in two years and is related to his operation of an illegal unlicensed abortion facility. He will also have to serve three years of probation.

The Board found Alexander was found guilty of “unprofessional conduct” and violating a previous consent order. The first year of his probation, Alexander is barred from the solo practice of medicine and must only work under the supervision of a Board-approved physician, who must file monthly reports on Alexander’s medical practices with a disciplinary panel of the MDBP.

“The fact that Alexander will be back in business in three months is ludicrous. This man has proved again and again that he is not fit to practice medicine and has no regard for the laws and regulations that govern the practice of medicine in Maryland, much less the safety of his patients,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.

haroldalexanderThe Maryland Board of Physicians issued a “cease and desist” order on Friday, October 25, 2013, to Harold O. Alexander, of Forestville, Maryland, ordering him to stop performing abortions and stop administrating certain drugs, including sedation.

Operation Rescue investigations confirmed that Alexander was operating an unlicensed abortion clinic, Integrated Ob/Gyn, last June. A recorded undercover phone call made to Moore ObGyn, which shares an office with Integrated ObGyn, revealed that Alexander was conducting abortions four days per week – mostly in the evenings – and that he was charging women an extra $100 per abortion for pain relief. Those who could not afford the extra fee had to endure the excruciating pain of a surgical abortion.

Operation Rescue turned the documentation it obtained over to a local pro-life activist that ensured that it reached the hands of the appropriate authorities then published a report concerning its findings. [Read the report here.]

“Alexander’s cease and desist order represents a huge victory for Operation Rescue as well as for women and their pre-born babies that were endangered by Alexander’s shoddy abortion practices,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “This represents over two and a half years of work by our investigative staff and validates our allegations against Alexander, who we consider a danger to the public.”

As a result, the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality inspected Alexander’s office on Monday, October 21, 2013, and discovered that not only was Alexander’s abortion business unlicensed, but he was allowing unqualified “Med Aids” to administer IV drugs and sedation in violation of Maryland Code Regulations, which requires such medications be administered only by a physician or qualified nurse anesthetist. Alexander’s practices mirror those of Pennsylvania abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted earlier this year of three counts of murder and hundreds of other abortion-related crimes.
