Not a Demon – mother responds to Bishop who called rape conceived children “baby from a demon seed”

mortonRecently a Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. told a panel of religious people that if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant that God did not create that child, rather it is a product of a DEMON SEED.

At the 2013 Pastors and Ministry Workers Conference in Nashville, Morton ridiculed the Republican Party’s stance on abortion, “A man rapes you on the street from a demon seed and you’ve got to have that baby from a demon seed, that’s not what God conceived. You’re hav’n your daddy’s baby. [mocking tone] “No we’ve got to have it because we don’t believe in abortion” We don’t believe in abortion but, my God, have some common sense.” (Watch Video Here)

After Julia Schoch heard what this supposed “Man of God” had said, she wrote a beautiful tribute to her adopted daughter who was rape conceived.

JuliaSchochSMheadJulia is the director of Respond for Life and her daughter was conceived in rape. According to Julia, her daughter’s birthmother was only 13 years old. She said she was told by the abortion clinic staff that “no one will want a biracial rapist’s baby.” They refused to let her see the ultrasound picture and, although she was 20 weeks pregnant, told her that her baby wasn’t formed yet. They also told her that she was “too young” and would die if she tried to have the baby.

Julia describes the decision that her daughter’s birthmother went thru, “She gave in, believing that she would die trying to have a baby no one would even want. The doctor began a second-trimester abortion under only local anesthesia. They never explained fetal development, the procedure, risks, options, etc. She was in so much pain that the doctor stopped and rescheduled the abortion, telling her mom to bring more money for general anesthesia because “she is making my job too difficult.” She then got accurate information and took a stand for her unborn daughter. Her attempted abortion was not a cavalier decision; she was only offered an uneducated and coerced “choice.” She believed the shame wasn’t in aborting but that the shame would be in having a “rapist’s baby.” They made her feel like it was wrong and dangerous to even consider giving birth to a baby conceived in rape.”

I was in the room when my daughter was born; the birthmother’s older sister was her labor coach. It was an amazing experience. The birthmother’s own mother, who initially wanted the baby aborted, instantly fell in love with this little girl. I honestly think people were expecting the baby to have horns or to be a mini-rapist. Yet out comes this fat-cheeked, curly-haired little thing with the prettiest green eyes — everyone was crying tears of joy! I went straight to the young birthmother and just held her and cried. I said, “You did it! You did it! She is here!” She replied, “Thank you! You were right. She is worth it.”

Below is Julia’s response to Bishop Morton calling Rape Conceived Children “Demon Seeds”:

For too long, the rape conceived and their mothers have been targets of hate speech. The assumption is that no woman who was REALLY raped would want to carry such a baby to term. That is a lie. Using derogatory language to the woman about her child often coerces her into making a decision that puts her at risk mentally, emotionally, and physically. She may consent to an abortion in order to prove that she was actually raped or out of fear that her child will be the object of continued prejudice after birth.

Consider the effect on rape conceived persons when the world calls the fetus in the womb a demon seed or the spawn of the devil that deserves death. What message does that send to those children and adults who were rape conceived, yet are now born? Talk about your self esteem issues!

Some of the frequent questions we heard from people concerning the adoption of our daughter(conceived in rape) were, “What are you going to tell her?”, “How are you going to tell her”, and “Are you going to tell her?” They told us it will be horrible thing to hear. Well, it is made infinitely more horrible to hear, when our culture and even many in the Church, look at these children as not worthy to live and as the spawn of Satan.

I was also asked, “Are you going to tell people? What will they think of her?” Oh please… I am bold in sharing ON PURPOSE because there is no shame in being rape conceived! She is an innocent human being. She images her Creator, the Author of Life. She isn’t a demon. She doesn’t have a 666 branded on her by the devil. She doesn’t have red eyes or horns under her curly hair. Funny how those who deny God suddenly believe the devil is real and he is out impregnating women through rape. How long will we continue to protect and defend hate speech against the rape conceived? When we tolerate it, we legitimize it.

It is time to stop DEMONIZING the rape conceived.

*What is “Hate Speech“? In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against a protected individual or group. Hate speech consists of verbal and nonverbal expression that is used to demean, oppress, or promote violence against someone on the basis of their membership in a social or ethnic group. In many cases, hate speech is created by people who are part of a majority population. Their messages typically are directed toward people who are part of a minority population. The targets of hate speech are chosen just because they belong to that particular group of people. The messages of hate also are designed to degrade or otherwise harm these targets for the same reason. More on hate speech
