Doctor charged with pointing handgun at abortion protesters
By George Jackson

A doctor was charged with a felony in South Carolina on Saturday.

Charleston Police said Dr. Gary Boyle, 62 of Blountville, pointed a gun at three abortion protesters near the back entrance of the Charleston’s Women’s Medical Center.
According to the police report, Boyle works at the center. He also practices medicine at the Bristol Regional Women’s Center in Tennessee.

Both offices are the focus of a 40-day protest by anti-abortion activists.

A national organization called ’40 Days for Life’ started their vigil outside Boyle’s Bristol office on September 22nd. Organizer Linda Edwards said she plans to continue through the end of October.

“[The Charleston group] were doing what they were supposed to be doing in a peaceful vigil,” Edwards said. “That is, praying peacefully without interaction with doctors and nurses who are part of an abortion clinic.”

The police report lists three victims: 50-year-old John Karafa, 60-year-old Kenneth Ray Collins, and a male juvenile.

“[The victims] stated they were standing at the back entrance of the building, waiting to hand out their religious literature,” police said.
“The victims advise that the offender pointed a firearm at them from inside his vehicle,” police said.

Boyle could not be reached for comment Monday. His office declined comment.

Boyle told police he drew the gun because he felt threatened.

“The offender admitted that he presented the firearm because he was in fear of his and his wife’s life,” police said.

Collins disagreed with Boyle’s version of their encounter. He said Boyle approached the group of protestors.

“I offered literature to the approaching car,” Collins said. “Then I saw that I was looking down the barrel of a handgun,” he said.

Collins said the protest group was standing on the public right of way. Boyle could have called the office security guard if he felt threatened, he said.
“The guard sometimes stands and talks with us,” Collins said.

Boyle was charged with ‘pointing a firearm at any person,’ a felony in South Carolina. It carries a maximum prison term of five years.

Boyle is scheduled to appear in Charleston County Criminal Court on December 17th, 2010. He is free on a $25,000 bond.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (CBS/AP) An Ohio man accused of trying to force his girlfriend at gunpoint to get an abortion has pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted murder.

He entered his not guilty plea in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and was ordered held on $350,000 bond.

The 27-year-old Holt-Reid was described as a college student and single father of six children, including a previous child with the pregnant girlfriend.

Cops called for abortion clinic threat Pro-life activist says man threatened to shoot

Updated: Tuesday, 31 Aug 2010, 10:13 PM MDT

ALBUQUERQUE, NM {KRQE} – The father of a teenage girl who was on her way into an Albuquerque abortion clinic, is accused of threatening to shoot a protester.

A protester standing just outside the clinic said the man lost it and said he was going to put a bullet through her heart.

These pictures were snapped by Operation Rescue, outside Southwestern Women’s Options on Lomas near I-25.

It’s one of the most controversial abortion clinics in the country, because it’s one of the few that performs late-term abortions

A man, his wife and their 16 year old daughter pulled into the clinic for the teen’s appointment Saturday.

Protesters claim the girl was interested in hearing about alternatives to abortion.

Bud Shaver with Operation Rescue was there and told News 13 what he saw, “(The girl) took the information that she was offering but the gentlemen lashed out.”

The female protester said the girl’s father yelled he didn’t believe in god and flipped her off.

The family went inside, but the man came back out.

The protester claims that’s when the father told her not to speak to his daughter again or he would quote “Put a bullet in her heart”.

“He kind of lifted up his shirt and showed something that was attached to his belt,” Shaver said.

The woman called the cops.

“They had all their guns drawn and they were kind of single file approaching the clinic and they had all of us, out on the street, kind of move behind the wall, they said we were in the kill zone,” Shaver said.

The father told police he was stressed over his daughter’s abortion and got upset when the protesters started yelling his family would burn in hell.

He said he did tell the woman not to talk to his daughter, but he denied making a threat.

Police did find a magazine clip full of bullets on him, but no gun. The man did have several guns locked inside his car.

Police confiscated them, citing the volatility of the situation.

Police said the case has been forwarded to the district attorney to see if the father should be charged with anything.

We tried to get a hold of the owner of the clinic Doctor Curtis Boyd for comment on what happened, he did not get back to us.

But, Operation Rescue reports that the Shooting Threat Raises Question Of Coerced Abortion

Additional information has come out concerning the incident on August 25, 2010, where a man threatened to shoot two pro-life women outside Curtis Boyd’s late-term abortion mill in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That information raises questions of coerced and/or forced abortions there.

The man, identified in police reports as Hal Cox of Arizona, brought his 16-year old daughter to Boyd’s Southwestern Women’s Options for an abortion and became upset when his wife and daughter voluntarily approached two sidewalk counselors that spoke with them about abortion alternatives. He flashed what appeared to be a gun and threatened to shoot them if they said anything else to his daughter.

Police were called to the scene where they discovered that Cox was in immediate possession of a magazine filled with bullets. They also discovered a number of firearms in the trunk of his vehicle. Police confiscated the weapons.

“This raises an important question of whether or not this young lady held any fear for her armed father, and whether she was seeking an abortion of her own free will,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We know that there is a silent epidemic of coerced abortions and even forced abortions going on in this country.”

“Pregnancy is a vulnerable time for women,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue. “After over two decades of working with abortion-bound women, it has been my experience that a high percentage of them feel like they have no other choice than to abort because of pressure from family and even because of fear of domestic violence.”

Two cases in point are the dramatic stories of Michelle Armesto-Berg from Kansas and Caitlin Bruce from Michigan.

Armesto-Berg was coerced into an abortion she did not want out of fear that her family would disown her. Her abortion was started before the clinic staff obtained written consent. She gave stunning testimony of her ordeal before a Kansas Legislative Committee in 2007.

Bruce filed a lawsuit against abortionist Alberto Hodari for a forced abortion she endured in 2008. She says she withdrew her consent for an abortion after viewing an ultrasound image of her pre-born baby. According to Bruce, Hodari ordered a male clinic worker to hold her down while Hodari forced the abortion on her. Her mouth was covered to muffle her screams.

These stories are just the tip of a very large iceberg. More needs to be done to insure that vulnerable women do not have to endure abortions they do not want.

Boyd’s clinic is of particular concern because women come to it from all over the country for late-term abortions that are not legal or available in their home states. Studies show that domestic violence against women actually increases in their last four months of pregnancy, a time during which Boyd particularly solicits women for abortions.

“We hope that the police thoroughly investigate the Cox case to determine if the young woman was coerced or aborted out of fear for her safety. But unfortunately, in New Mexico abortion laws are so permissive that there is likely no statute that could punish a person for forcing or coercing an abortion on an unwilling woman,” said Sullenger. “This lax attitude toward abortion coercion and accompanying domestic violence places women and their wanted babies in grave risk. It is really outrageous that more hasn’t already been done to protect women at this vulnerable time of their lives.”

As for Cox, his case has been referred to the district attorney, who will evaluate it to see if charges should be filed.

“If they let this man walk away without charges this will send the wrong message to bullies who want to threaten peaceful pro-lifers and coerce young girls into unwanted abortions, as we suspect may have been the case in this instance,” said Newman. “They need to make an example out of Mr. Cox in order to stem the violence inside and outside the abortion clinic.”

In 2009- a blogger reported that :

Pro-Choice Violence: Threatening with a Gun

Another incident of threatened violence against a pro-lifer.

Outside a Phoenix Planned Parenthood abortion center on Wednesday an Arizona man pulled a gun on a pro-life advocate who handed him a brochure with information on alternatives to abortion.

Phoenix police Lt. Larry T. Jacobs said in a television interview that the man had just dropped off his girlfriend for an abortion at Planned Parenthood – the billion-dollar abortion business – when the pro-life advocate handed the man the brochure. The man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the woman for a few seconds, then got in his vehicle and drove off.

The pro-lifer wrote down the gunman’s license plate and report it to authorities. Police eventually arrested the alleged defendant.

The woman says she was only trying to help the man consider other options.

NOTE- NEVER FORGET the shooting death of pro-life activist James Pouillon- murdered for holding a pro-life sign ! Pouillon was gunned down in cold blood by a pro-choice activist angry at his message

In September of 2009, a pro-life activist was gunned down on a public sidewalk by a violent pro-choicer who hated his message. James Pouillon was standing in front of a Michigan High School, where he had stood peacefully many times before, carrying a pro-life sign. The Shiawassee County Prosecutor’s office has charged pro-choicer, Harlan J. Drake, 33, of Owosso with two counts of first-degree, premeditated murder.

Pouillon’s sign depicted a picture of a baby and simply said “LIFE” and for this he was brutally killed.
