Bill Gates and Planned Parenthood:

GATES: When I was growing up, my parents were almost involved in various volunteer things. My dad was head of Planned Parenthood. And it was very controversial to be involved with that. And so it’s fascinating. At the dinner table my parents are very good at sharing the things that they were doing. And almost treating us like adults, talking about that.
My mom was on the United Way group that decides how to allocate the money and looks at all the different charities and makes the very hard decisions about where that pool of funds is going to go. So I always knew there was something about really educating people and giving them choices in terms of family size.

Planned Parenthood clinic cited for “deficiencies”

Clinic’s ‘deficiencies’ corrected
Saturday, May 28, 2011

State inspections of Planned Parenthood Association of the Mercer Area clinic on East State Street in Trenton earlier this year revealed 39 “deficiencies” including the discovery of unlabeled syringes and lack of sterilization for ultrasound equipment, according to a health department report.

The findings have prompted New Jersey Right to Life Executive Director Marie Tasy to call for the clinic to be closed or its state funding to be pulled.

“I think these deficiencies are very serious and I certainly think that the women in this area at least should be informed about the violations found at this clinic,” Tasy said. “I think if women’s health matters, then these clinics should be shut down.”

But officials for PPAMA said the problems cited in the state report were minor and had been corrected since the February and March inspections. Planned Parenthood officials said that findings of minor deficiencies were not usual in a typical inspection of a health-care facility

The deficiencies cited included water temperature in bathrooms or procedural policies, such as when employees were required to get physicals. In a fact sheet responding to the inspection report, PPAMA said the problem involving the sterilization of ultrasound equipment had been addressed, and required the clinic only to use a stronger disinfectant.

California woman spotted pushing trashcan of human body parts down the street arrested for homicide

Tuesday, May 31st 2011, 4:00 AM

A California woman caught wheeling a trashcan full of body parts was arrested on Monday on charges of homicide.

Carmen Montenegro, 51, of San Bernardino, Calif. was spotted with the macabre container around 2:30 in the afternoon and nabbed by police who were tipped off to her bizarre activities.

“Officers stopped her leaving the location and in the trashcan we found human remains,” Detective Jeff Crittenden told KTLA-TV.

The contents of the trashcan are being investigated by the coroner’s office, but police believe it is a homicide and that there is only one body.

They are still working to clarify the connection between the woman and the remains and to identify the victim.

Crittenden told reporters he did not have much information on Montenegro, but said she is a relative of the homeowner whose house she was spotted wheeling the body away from.

One neighborhood resident’s daughter told a KTLA-TV reporter she is Montenegro’s cousin, and that the woman came to the home for help disposing the body.

Other residents said Montenegro’s mother lives in the home, and that Montenegro herself lived there sporadically for over a decade.

The body is believed to have been dug up from the yard of the house where Montenegro was first spotted, according to police.

Abortion clinic cited
Thursday, May 26, 2011

A patient’s chest was not hooked up to an EKG monitor, but an EKG status was written on that person’s medical record anyway.

State inspectors found a series of health violations at Pilgrim Medical Center on Bloomfield Avenue, including some that posed immediate risks to patients.

Before they were ready to be inserted into patients, 10 needles were removed from their packaging and placed in an unsterile plastic container.

Employees were exposing medication to possible contamination by opening vials with their bare hands after having wiped them with alcohol.

Those were among the deficiencies state inspectors said they found during a survey of the Bloomfield Avenue family planning clinic Pilgrim Medical Center in July 2009, according to the state Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

With two operating rooms and doctors who perform gynecological procedures — including abortions up to five months after conception — the center was found to have two “immediate jeopardy” issues that were “serious enough that they posed or could pose a risk for harm” to patients, according to Dawn Thomas, a spokesperson for DHSS.

Among those issues: A single needle was stuck in each of the rubber stoppers for two vials of medication. An unidentified staff member explained to inspectors that a syringe would be affixed to that needle to withdraw medication prior to each case.

“The same needle was used to withdraw medications for more than one patient,” the report reads. “Leaving a needle inserted into a medication vial rubber stopper leaves the vial vulnerable to contamination.” The center was also accused of failing “to ensure that there were no expired medications available.”

Other infractions the center was cited for during the DHSS survey included a failure “to ensure that there were adequate supplies of medication to treat medical emergencies that may occur at the facility,” according to the state report.

Specially, the clinic lacked an adequate supply of the muscle-relaxing drug Dandrolene in case a patient went into malignant hyperthermia, a hereditary condition that causes the sufferer’s body temperature to skyrocket and muscles to contract following exposure to anesthesia.

A staff member allegedly told a state inspector that the facility stocks 12 vials of the drug, instead of the recommended 36, since “the rest can be administered in the Emergency Room” after a patient is transported to a hospital, the state report indicated.

At one point, a surveyor walked into one of the operating rooms and noticed that the monitoring machine used during a surgical procedure only had a cable for a device that measures patients’ pulse and oxygen levels. When the inspector asked how EKG rhythm is monitored, the staff member pulled a cable out of a plastic bag, began opening drawers to search for the EKG leads and called another employee on the phone to ask where the leads were kept, only to find out they were locked in the medication closet, according to DHSS.

Inspectors also found that blood spills were being spot-cleaned between procedures, and the floor area where the surgical team was working was not being cleaned in its entirety, as it should be under the facility’s guidelines.

An Ad online shows that Dr. Nicholas Campanella MD, works at Pilgrim, and another paper stated that he performs abortions.

A comment left on another news article from an alleged former abortion patient of Campanell’s condemned the doctor:

The comment dated: Monday May 17, 2010, 6:11 PM reads:
After personal experience with Dr. Campanella, i would NEVER see him again or recommend anyone else, especially children, to see this man! Dr. Campanella performed an incomplete abortion for me and when I called his clinic I was told that I was fine and to take more pain medication. Later in the emergency room, a series of tests revealed that the procedure Dr. Campanella performed was incomplete and my body was hemorraging and I would have bled to death within the week. The on-call surgeons had to fix Dr. Campanella’s mistake. Dr. Campanella never offered any sympathy or compassion towards me during or after the ordeal. If you search his name on google you can find a series of health code violations his clinic has faced along with a malpractice case he lost and was ordered to pay $350,000 in damages. Board certification and thirty years in experience does not necessarily mean this man is a good, safe doctor!

Rape victim says rapist offered to take her for abortion, accuses church of abandoning her

Ernest Willis, a New Hampshire man accused of raping and fathering a child with a 15-year-old girl from his church in 1997, was found guilty today of three counts of forcible rape and a count of felonious sexual assault.

Willis, 51, faces 10 to 20 years in jail, in addition to up to 7 years on a statutory rape charge. Willis pled guilty to statutory rape days before the trial began but maintained that the sex was consensual.

According to ABC News: At the age of 14, Anderson was hired as a babysitter for the Willis family. She said the first assault occurred in the backseat of a car during a driving lesson. Anderson said Willis pulled her into the back of the car and raped her.

According to Anderson, the second assault occurred at her home when Willis showed up unannounced.

“He locked the door behind him and pushed me over to the couch. I had a dress on and he pulled it off. I pushed my hands against his shoulders and said ‘No,’ but he didn’t stop,” Anderson said.

Anderson told “20/20” that she confided her pregnancy to Willis. His reaction, she said, was to offer to pay for an abortion. When she rejected his offer, he presented another option, she said.

“He asked me if I wanted him to punch me in the stomach as hard as he could to try to cause a miscarriage,” she said. “I told him, ‘No, leave me alone.'”

Rape victim says rapist offered to take her for…, posted with vodpod

Tearful testimony from alleged rape victim May 26, 2011 5:28pm
(NECN: Lauren Collins) – There was tearful testimony today from a woman who says she was raped as a teen in New Hampshire. She says her church humiliated her into covering up the whole thing.

When Tina Anderson told Ernie Willis she was pregnant with his baby, she remembers him offering to take her out of state to get an under-aged abortion.

“I vehemently said no and then he offered to punch me in the stomach as hard as he could because that could cause a miscarriage,” she said on the stand in the final day of this trial.

That was in 1997 when both were members of the conservative Trinity Baptist Church in Concord. Their pastor made the pair apologize for in front of the entire congregation and arranged for Anderson to stay with a family in Colorado until she gave birth.

This trial twists around themes of shame and secrecy, but settles on whether a married father forced himself on a girl half his age.

Prosecutor Wayne Coull had the final word in this trial Thursday with closing arguments. “The 39 year old man wants you to believe that while riding in a car with his 15 year old babysitter he just poses out of the blue a question, ‘Oh hi Tina, would you like to engage with sexual intercourse with me?'”

Willis – now in his 50s – faces four charges in connection with two alleged incidents. He’s denies offering to end Anderson’s pregnancy. “I never said that in any way shape or form,” he said on the stand.

He says yes, he had sex with the girl, but just once, and it was consensual.

“I am guilty of that charge,” he said, “and I want the jury to know that I’m going to go right to prison and be punished for my actions.”

The state contends Willis only admits to what is irrefutable: He is the father of the child Anderson put up for adoption.

“It’s not a measure of his credibility,” said Coull. “It’s a measure of his being caught red handed and trying to explain it away. ”

State shuts down Gentilly abortion clinic
Published: Thursday, May 26, 2011, 5:33 PM
By Bruce Nolan, The Times-Picayune

State health inspectors have shut down a Gentilly abortion clinic after an unannounced inspection uncovered conditions they said put patients at risk.

The state Department of Health and Hospitals said it revoked the license of Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women, on Gentilly Boulevard near Elysian Fields Avenue.

A department spokeswoman said an inspection on May 6 found that “the facility failed to provide nursing services to meet the needs of its patients and adequately monitor women in recovery following a procedure.”

State records list the owner of the facility as Dr. Anthony Okpalobi, who was not available for comment Thursday.

Russo said Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein used a new law passed last summer to close the facility immediately, on a finding that conditions there “posed an imminent threat to the health, welfare or safety of the patients.”

The state had moved against the Gentilly clinic before.

In Jan. 2010 it revoked the clinic’s operating license.

Inspectors said then the clinic had been operating without a registered nurse on staff, without a controlled dangerous substance license and without registering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
But under state law in effect then, it was able to reopen while it contested the action in state court.

Russo said that litigation was still under way three weeks ago when Greenstein moved again against the clinic with the new, tougher enforcement tool of Act 490, passed by the Legislature last year.
Under that law, the clinic remains closed during its appeal, unless it files for special relief like a permanent injunction or temporary restraining order, Russo said.

Backers of the legislation championed it as a patient safety measure they said puts abortion clinics on the same footing as other institutions, like adult residential day-care centers and substance abuse clinics.
But abortion rights advocates said Act 490 is another attempt to harass, and perhaps reduce the number of, providers by involving a “zero tolerance” policy for any infraction — a rigor that is not extended to hospitals, among other facilities.

The state used the same law last fall to shut down a Shreveport abortion provider, Hope Medical Group for Women.

However, a state court overturned that closure.

Hope was among five Louisiana women’s clinics and one unnamed doctor who sued in federal court last fall to have Act 490 overturned.

However, that suit was dismissed. It is on appeal.

According to Operation Rescue leader, Troy Newman, “This is just one more example of how abortion clinics defiantly disregard the law and sacrifice the health and safety of women because they think that laws don’t apply to them and that women don’t deserve any better treatment. We have found this kind of attitude to be rampant inside the abortion cartel, in spite of their phony public relations claims to the contrary.”

Operation Rescue has Louisiana officials to also asked close the Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge after a botched abortion revealed numerous abuses, including the alleged illegal non-reporting of abortion complications.

DHH Immediately Suspends License of New Orleans Abortion Clinic
Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women ordered to cease operations for violating state licensure regulations

Thursday, May 26, 2011 | Contact: Bureau of Media & Communications (225) 342-7913 or (225) 252-3579 (cell)

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein Wednesday issued a license revocation for Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women and ordered the abortion facility to immediately cease performing abortions after an investigation found repeat violations that posed significant health and safety risks to clients. The Gentilly abortion facility is currently appealing a separate license revocation action instituted by the Department in January 2010. That action was based on a determination of the facility’s substantial failure to comply with the minimum standards for licensure of abortion clinics.

The immediate suspension came under a new law signed last year by Gov. Bobby Jindal that gives the DHH Secretary authority to immediately suspend an abortion facility’s license under certain circumstances. The new law, Act 490 of the 2010 Legislature by then-Rep. Fred Mills, had not been enacted when the Department initiated the January 2010 license revocation proceedings against the facility.

“We take very seriously our responsibility to protect the health and safety of people receiving services in facilities licensed through our Department,” Secretary Greenstein said. “This abortion facility continues to have significant repeated violations that put women at risk. We are thankful to have this law behind us to ensure we can take action when standards are not met.”

The Department issued Wednesday’s revocation action based upon a new survey of the facility conducted by DHH Health Standards on May 6, 2011. This most recent survey found the clinic, once again, to be in violation of standards for abortion clinic licensure. Specifically, the facility failed to provide nursing services to meet the needs of its patients and adequately monitor women in recovery following a procedure. The Secretary determined that the facility’s non-compliance and violations posed an imminent threat to the health, welfare or safety of the patients.

The abortion facility was notified of the revocation action and immediate suspension Wednesday morning.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals strives to protect and promote health statewide and to ensure access to medical, preventive and rehabilitative services for all state citizens.
