Republicans attend event named after former Planned Parenthood treasurer after caving on Planned Parenthood Funding
Planned Parenthood fundraising letter of January 8, 1947, lists Prescott S. Bush as treasurer of Margaret Sanger’s first national fundraising drive. In 1950, during Prescott’s first race for the U.S. Senate, the syndicated columnist Drew Pearson accused Bush of being a member of Planned Parenthood. Bush lost and accused Pearson of spreading the lie that cost him elected office. This fund-raising letter proved Pearson right.
Like his father, Prescott, George H. W. Bush became a vocal advocate for Planned Parenthood’s agenda while he served as a U. S. Congressman from Texas. He wrote a constituent in 1970: “I introduced legislation earlier this year which would provide federal funds for research in family planning devices and increased services to people who need them but cannot afford them. We must help our young people become aware of the fact that families can be planned and that there are benefits economically and socially to be derived from small families.” (George Bush to Mrs. Jim Hunter, Jr., Oct. 23, 1970 [Virginia B. Whitehill Papers, DeGolyer Library, Southern Methodist University].)
Prescott Bush Dinner:
I find it interesting that just AFTER the Speaker and his Republican BUDS CAVED and gave into the Dems on Planned Parenthood funding, they rush to attend a formal dinner/fundraiser named after a Planned Parenthood treasurer. The speaker is bragging at the dinner here:
Vodpod videos no longer available.
According to NBC, Speaker of the House John Boehner was in Stamford Saturday for his first public appearance since the budget deal was struck averting a government shutdown.
Boehner headlined the Prescott Bush Dinner at the Hilton in Stamford. The dinner is the largest Republican fundraiser in the state.
He used the occasion to talk about the eleventh-hour budget deal, and he even mocked Vice President Joe Biden’s negotiating tactics.
Talking about a Thursday meeting that included Sen. Harry Reid and Biden at the White House, Boehner said Biden decided to put his two cents in to the negotiating process.
“All of a sudden, the jovial, never-says-a-nasty-word Joe Biden, jumps up and says ‘Well, I think we’ve had enough of this. I think we ought to just shut it down. We’ll let the American people decide’,” The Speaker recalled Biden saying.
“I looked over at Joe and said ,’Joe, what the hell is that?'”.
“I’ve told the media for months, the goal is not to shut down the government,” said Boehner. “The goal is to cut spending in Washington DC.”
The dinner, named after Prescott Bush a former Treasurer for Planned Parenthood, honored State Rep. Larry Cafero cost donors anywhere from $250 to $5,000 a person. It attracted a who’s who of big name Republicans including Linda McMahon, former Congressman Chris Shays and former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer.
