Accused killer says abortion refusal prompted deadly struggle

Edmonton Sun, Canada

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Refusing to agree to abort their baby triggered an argument with her boyfriend that led to a deadly fight, the woman accused of the fatal stabbing testified Thursday.

Melinda Morin said her on-again, off-again boyfriend Barry Neil Godwin became incensed when she refused to have an abortion after she became pregnant with his baby last year.

She said he had packed her bags to leave on the morning of Nov. 10, 2009, then picked her up downtown when she called him and they went back to his northeast home.

A heated argument ensued, she said, when she told him she planned to keep the child once it was born.

I told him I didn’t want to go for an abortion. I’d keep the baby and I wouldn’t bother him. I’d take care of it myself,” Morin, 29, told her lawyer Mitch Stephensen during her second-degree murder trial. “But he didn’t want to know there was a kid out there that was his. He was upset and he wanted me to have an abortion. No way around it. So I was trying to leave.”

The child was born on July 1.

She said that morning Godwin kicked her in the stomach, grabbed her and put her in a choke hold, threw a knife at her at the bottom of the stairs, attacked her and grabbed her by the hair, trying to pull her upstairs. She said he then kicked the door closed so she couldn’t leave.

“He was coming towards me. I was scared. He was attacking me. I’ve never seen him so angry, the look in his face,” she testified, noting she then picked up the knife from the floor. “I was at the bottom of the stairs. That’s when I looked at him, saw the knife in his hand. I stabbed him and he collapsed.”

Morin claims she was acting in self-defence.

Opt out of TSA scanners, write or complain against them and get put on Homeland Security’s ‘domestic extremists’ list

Posted in Abortion, Homeland Security, TSA with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 24, 2010 by saynsumthn

The Examiner is reporting that an informant at the Department of Homeland Security under the direction of Obama appointee Janet Napolitano, considers all citizens who participate in today’s ‘National Opt Out Day’ at airports across the country to be ‘domestic extremists.’

But that’s not all.

DHS also considers any citizen who merely criticizes TSA scanning procedures or who writes articles critical of the procedures in the ‘alternative media’ to be a ‘domestic extremist.’

According to the mole inside Homeland Security, Obama and company do not take kindly to being criticized or opposed in this current outrageous invasion of privacy by the federal government. DHS personnel composed a document approved by Napolitano which implies that critics or those who refuse to go through the ‘naked scanners’ are to be considered potential criminals.

The document specifically addresses ‘the alternative media,’ the assumption being that bloggers, citizen journalists, and writers who report for news organizations that are outside the ‘mainstream media’ such as CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the AP, Time, and Newsweek, are to be considered ‘extremist’ if they merely write anything critical of TSA procedures, which include groping, prodding, and fondling,

Canada Free Press broke the story when they wrote: that they were contacted by a source within the DHS who is troubled by the terminology and content of an internal memo reportedly issued yesterday at the hand of DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. Indeed, both the terminology and content contained in the document are troubling. The dissemination of the document itself is restricted by virtue of its classification, which prohibits any manner of public release. While the document cannot be posted or published, the more salient points are revealed here.

The memo, which actually takes the form of an administrative directive, appears to be the product of undated but recent high level meetings between Napolitano, John Pistole, head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA),and one or more of Obama’s national security advisors. This document officially addresses those who are opposed to, or engaged in the disruption of the implementation of the enhanced airport screening procedures as “domestic extremists.”

The introductory paragraph of the multi-page document states that it is issued “in response to the growing public backlash against enhanced TSA security screening procedures and the agents conducting the screening process.” Implicit within the same section is that the recently enhanced security screening procedures implemented at U.S. airports, and the measures to be taken in response to the negative public backlash as detailed [in this directive], have the full support of the President. In other words, Obama not only endorses the enhanced security screening, but the measures outlined in this directive to be taken in response to public objections.

The terminology contained within the reported memo is indeed troubling. It labels any person who “interferes” with TSA airport security screening procedure protocol and operations by actively objecting to the established screening process, “including but not limited to the anticipated national opt-out day” as a “domestic extremist.” The label is then broadened to include “any person, group or alternative media source” that actively objects to, causes others to object to, supports and/or elicits support for anyone who engages in such travel disruptions at U.S. airports in response to the enhanced security procedures.

For individuals who engaged in such activity at screening points, it instructs TSA operations to obtain the identities of those individuals and other applicable information and submit the same electronically to the Homeland Environment Threat Analysis Division, the Extremism and Radicalization branch of the Office of Intelligence & Analysis (IA) division of the Department of Homeland Security.

It would appear that the Department of Homeland Security is not only prepared to enforce the enhanced security procedures at airports, but is involved in gathering intelligence about those who don’t. They’re making a list and most certainly will be checking it twice. Meanwhile, legitimate threats to our air travel security (and they DO exist) seem to be taking a back seat to the larger threat of the multitude of non-criminal American citizens who object to having their Constitutional rights violated.

Homeland Security under Obama has a history of labeling innocent citizens as ‘domestic terrorists’ or ‘domestic extremists’ if they participate in Tea Party protests, promote gun rights, insist that the government follow the Constitution, oppose the numerous instances of power-grabs by the Executive Branch, or even merely protest the move to seize the healthcare industry through the colossal Marxist abomination known as ‘ObamaCare.’

WorldNet Daily reported that In April of 2009, a newly unclassified Department of Homeland Security report warned against the possibility of violence by unnamed “right-wing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, increasing federal power, restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of U.S. sovereignty and singles out returning war veterans as particular threats.

The report, titled “Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” dated April 7, states that “threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts.”

However, the document, goes on to suggest worsening economic woes, potential new legislative restrictions on firearms and “the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”

The report from DHS’ Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines right-wing extremism in the U.S. as “divided into those groups, movements and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups) and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

In December of 2009 Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the aviation security system failed when a young Nigerian man with a powerful explosive hidden on his body was allowed to board a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day. Napolitano says investigators are examining Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (OO’-mahr fah-ROOK’ ahb-DOOL’-moo-TAH’-lahb) was allowed the flight despite being on a terrorist watch list.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, ” The System Worked” before ” The system Failed”

MR. GREGORY: Right. But, Secretary Napolitano, the question is whether the system really did do everything that it should have done. He was on a terror watch list. His father had raised concerns about him being radicalized to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. He was not on a do not fly list, which is a, a separate kind of cataloguing of threats. Do you think the fact that he was on a watch list should have triggered a secondary screening in the airport in Amsterdam?

SEC’Y NAPOLITANO: Well, this is the way it works. He was on a TIDE list. There are over a half a million people on that TIDE list, and that information was shared throughout the federal family. There’s no question about information sharing here. There had never been any additional information supplied that would move him to what’s called a Selectee list, where you are–where you do that kind of secondary screening, or indeed to the No Fly list, which requires specific, credible, derogatory information. Now, I think one of the things we will do–because that’s a system that has been in place for a number of years. One of the things we will do is go back and look and say, well, maybe in this day and age, with the kind of environment we have, we should change some of those protocols. But right now he, he was on a, a generic list, if I could use that phrase, but we did not have the kind of information that under the current rules would elevate him.

So- they now are groping law abiding citizens instead of doing their job….?

Funny how Planned Parenthood is so concerned about ABUSE- yet when Life Dynamics called several Planned Parenthood abortion clinics with an undercover actor posing as a 14 year old child impregnated by an adult male- Planned Parenthood covered it up

Later, Reporter Lila Rose from Live Action did a series of undercover video investigations revealing that yet again- Planned Parenthood was more than willing to cover for sexual child predators:

Lawmaker with legal conceal and carry permit had gun confiscated by police because he was near Planned Parenthood

According to this Star Tribune article dated November 23, 2010, and entitled: Armed lawmaker stopped by police in Highland Park

Lawmaker Thomas Hackbarth, R-Cedar, has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. He said it was happenstance he was parked in the Planned Parenthood lot in Highland Park.

A state representative said it was a misunderstanding when he parked his car in the Planned Parenthood lot in Highland Park and was later stopped by St. Paul police because of the revolver he was carrying near his waistband.

Thomas Hackbarth, 58, was stopped in his car on Nov. 16 after a security guard saw him with a gun in the parking lot about 5 p.m., an hour after the clinic closed. Police ordered him out of his car at gunpoint and handcuffed and questioned him before taking his gun and letting him go.

Hackbarth, who has a conceal and carry permit, picked up his gun from police on Tuesday. He was not arrested or charged, and police have closed the case, said police spokesman Andy Skoogman.

He said that he is not familiar with the Highland Park area and didn’t know he was at Planned Parenthood when he pulled into the empty lot.

Hackbarth said that he always carries his fully loaded gun, and understands why the security guard was alarmed.

I didn’t even know it was Planned Parenthood,” he said. “I fully understand why they were upset.”

Doctor charged with pointing handgun at abortion protesters
By George Jackson

A doctor was charged with a felony in South Carolina on Saturday.

Charleston Police said Dr. Gary Boyle, 62 of Blountville, pointed a gun at three abortion protesters near the back entrance of the Charleston’s Women’s Medical Center.
According to the police report, Boyle works at the center. He also practices medicine at the Bristol Regional Women’s Center in Tennessee.

Both offices are the focus of a 40-day protest by anti-abortion activists.

A national organization called ’40 Days for Life’ started their vigil outside Boyle’s Bristol office on September 22nd. Organizer Linda Edwards said she plans to continue through the end of October.

“[The Charleston group] were doing what they were supposed to be doing in a peaceful vigil,” Edwards said. “That is, praying peacefully without interaction with doctors and nurses who are part of an abortion clinic.”

The police report lists three victims: 50-year-old John Karafa, 60-year-old Kenneth Ray Collins, and a male juvenile.

“[The victims] stated they were standing at the back entrance of the building, waiting to hand out their religious literature,” police said.
“The victims advise that the offender pointed a firearm at them from inside his vehicle,” police said.

Boyle could not be reached for comment Monday. His office declined comment.

Boyle told police he drew the gun because he felt threatened.

“The offender admitted that he presented the firearm because he was in fear of his and his wife’s life,” police said.

Collins disagreed with Boyle’s version of their encounter. He said Boyle approached the group of protestors.

“I offered literature to the approaching car,” Collins said. “Then I saw that I was looking down the barrel of a handgun,” he said.

Collins said the protest group was standing on the public right of way. Boyle could have called the office security guard if he felt threatened, he said.
“The guard sometimes stands and talks with us,” Collins said.

Boyle was charged with ‘pointing a firearm at any person,’ a felony in South Carolina. It carries a maximum prison term of five years.

Boyle is scheduled to appear in Charleston County Criminal Court on December 17th, 2010. He is free on a $25,000 bond.

He entered his not guilty plea in Franklin County Common Pleas Court and was ordered held on $350,000 bond.

The 27-year-old Holt-Reid was described as a college student and single father of six children, including a previous child with the pregnant girlfriend.

A public defender was appointed for the defendant.

Cops called for abortion clinic threat Pro-life activist says man threatened to shoot

Updated: Tuesday, 31 Aug 2010, 10:13 PM MDT

ALBUQUERQUE, NM {KRQE} – The father of a teenage girl who was on her way into an Albuquerque abortion clinic, is accused of threatening to shoot a protester.

A protester standing just outside the clinic said the man lost it and said he was going to put a bullet through her heart.

These pictures were snapped by Operation Rescue, outside Southwestern Women’s Options on Lomas near I-25.

It’s one of the most controversial abortion clinics in the country, because it’s one of the few that performs late-term abortions

A man, his wife and their 16 year old daughter pulled into the clinic for the teen’s appointment Saturday.

Protesters claim the girl was interested in hearing about alternatives to abortion.

Bud Shaver with Operation Rescue was there and told News 13 what he saw, “(The girl) took the information that she was offering but the gentlemen lashed out.”

The female protester said the girl’s father yelled he didn’t believe in god and flipped her off.

The family went inside, but the man came back out.

The protester claims that’s when the father told her not to speak to his daughter again or he would quote “Put a bullet in her heart”.

“He kind of lifted up his shirt and showed something that was attached to his belt,” Shaver said.

The woman called the cops.

“They had all their guns drawn and they were kind of single file approaching the clinic and they had all of us, out on the street, kind of move behind the wall, they said we were in the kill zone,” Shaver said.

The father told police he was stressed over his daughter’s abortion and got upset when the protesters started yelling his family would burn in hell.

He said he did tell the woman not to talk to his daughter, but he denied making a threat.

Police did find a magazine clip full of bullets on him, but no gun. The man did have several guns locked inside his car.

Police confiscated them, citing the volatility of the situation.

Police said the case has been forwarded to the district attorney to see if the father should be charged with anything.

We tried to get a hold of the owner of the clinic Doctor Curtis Boyd for comment on what happened, he did not get back to us.

But, Operation Rescue reports that the Shooting Threat Raises Question Of Coerced Abortion

Additional information has come out concerning the incident on August 25, 2010, where a man threatened to shoot two pro-life women outside Curtis Boyd’s late-term abortion mill in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That information raises questions of coerced and/or forced abortions there.

The man, identified in police reports as Hal Cox of Arizona, brought his 16-year old daughter to Boyd’s Southwestern Women’s Options for an abortion and became upset when his wife and daughter voluntarily approached two sidewalk counselors that spoke with them about abortion alternatives. He flashed what appeared to be a gun and threatened to shoot them if they said anything else to his daughter.

Police were called to the scene where they discovered that Cox was in immediate possession of a magazine filled with bullets. They also discovered a number of firearms in the trunk of his vehicle. Police confiscated the weapons.

“This raises an important question of whether or not this young lady held any fear for her armed father, and whether she was seeking an abortion of her own free will,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We know that there is a silent epidemic of coerced abortions and even forced abortions going on in this country.”

“Pregnancy is a vulnerable time for women,” said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue. “After over two decades of working with abortion-bound women, it has been my experience that a high percentage of them feel like they have no other choice than to abort because of pressure from family and even because of fear of domestic violence.”

Two cases in point are the dramatic stories of Michelle Armesto-Berg from Kansas and Caitlin Bruce from Michigan.

Armesto-Berg was coerced into an abortion she did not want out of fear that her family would disown her. Her abortion was started before the clinic staff obtained written consent. She gave stunning testimony of her ordeal before a Kansas Legislative Committee in 2007.

Bruce filed a lawsuit against abortionist Alberto Hodari for a forced abortion she endured in 2008. She says she withdrew her consent for an abortion after viewing an ultrasound image of her pre-born baby. According to Bruce, Hodari ordered a male clinic worker to hold her down while Hodari forced the abortion on her. Her mouth was covered to muffle her screams.

These stories are just the tip of a very large iceberg. More needs to be done to insure that vulnerable women do not have to endure abortions they do not want.

Boyd’s clinic is of particular concern because women come to it from all over the country for late-term abortions that are not legal or available in their home states. Studies show that domestic violence against women actually increases in their last four months of pregnancy, a time during which Boyd particularly solicits women for abortions.

“We hope that the police thoroughly investigate the Cox case to determine if the young woman was coerced or aborted out of fear for her safety. But unfortunately, in New Mexico abortion laws are so permissive that there is likely no statute that could punish a person for forcing or coercing an abortion on an unwilling woman,” said Sullenger. “This lax attitude toward abortion coercion and accompanying domestic violence places women and their wanted babies in grave risk. It is really outrageous that more hasn’t already been done to protect women at this vulnerable time of their lives.”

As for Cox, his case has been referred to the district attorney, who will evaluate it to see if charges should be filed.

“If they let this man walk away without charges this will send the wrong message to bullies who want to threaten peaceful pro-lifers and coerce young girls into unwanted abortions, as we suspect may have been the case in this instance,” said Newman. “They need to make an example out of Mr. Cox in order to stem the violence inside and outside the abortion clinic.”

$1.5 MILLION in tax credits funds eugenics founded Planned Parenthood mega center in minority area

Portland Business Journal’s article, Planned Parenthood wraps $12.5M campaign, proves that tax payer support of Planned Parenthood must stop now. This abortion clinic mega center received a million and a half in tax credits to build their new mega center in Portland , which is strategically placed in a black neighborhood.

According to the article:

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette on Monday announced the completion of its five year, $12.5 million fund raising campaign.

The Let’s Build campaign funded the new 42,000-square-foot Elizabeth Flanagan Regional Service Center that is now home to Planned Parenthood administrative staff and a state-of-the-art NE Portland health center.

About $9 million of the $12.5 million raised came from private donors. An additional $2 million was raised through a board designated endowment, and $1.5 million came from new market tax credits.

The center is named after Elizabeth Flanagan, a former PPCW board member and board president who died in April 2009 after a three-year battled with ovarian cancer.

The LEED Certified building was designed by Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects and constructed by B&G Builders, Inc.

Pro-Life Action of Oregon has a blogpost noting that Planned Parenthood Washington has a pastor on their payroll. Pro-Life Action includes words from Rev. Isham Harris, minister of NE Portland’s Upper Room Home Church:

This clergyman is not in harmony with the Holy Spirit because Christ came so that we may have life,” says Rev. Harris. “Psalm 137 tells us that children are a heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His reward. I question whether this reverend is being led by the Holy Spirit.”

Rev. Harris is distressed that Planned Parenthood chose Black History Month to open its abortion mill. “They have a total disregard for Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., for the plight of African-Americans. I feel the same about the Portland Development Commission. I totally abhor this.”

News of Planned Parenthood is disturbing to African-American religious leaders including Rev. Isham Harris, pastor of the Upper Room Home Church located in Northeast Portland. Rev. Harris led a pro-life march through the Black neighborhood one year ago.
