Singer Judy Collins will perform a benefit for eugenic founded Planned Parenthood

Folk singer/songwriter Judy Collins will perform Saturday at a benefit for Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, which is observing its 75th anniversary.

Judy Collins and Peter, Paul and Mary sang “Amazing Grace” at the abortion rights rally in 1990. She signed a statement in MS Magazine, “We Have Had Abortions”. Singer Judy Collins testified on abortion legislation, that she was 42 and would consider having another child, but because ”there is a high risk for a woman my age having babies with serious birth defects,” she would prefer to have the choice of an abortion if medicine tests showed problems. She continued, ”I insist on my right to choose.” She also attended the The History of Women in Music Concert — a benefit for Zero Population Growth’s Turner/Fonda Family Planning Outreach Project.

Planned Parenthood is an organization steeped in eugenics and 19th century racism – Their founder Margaret Sanger was an admitted KLAN speaker.

Shame on Collins for supporting such a group – I urge her to watch the documentary film- Maafa21 for a clear picture about Planned Parenthood:

  1. Yes, Judy Collins is extremely contradictory in her views. In her book, “Sweet Judy Blue Eyes”, she laments a situation in which an African American woman was subjected to forced sterilization, but then celebrates the concept of women’s “choice” to have an abortion. Apparently she is uninformed about Planned Parenthood’s origins in supporting exactly the kind of forced sterilizations that she is disturbed by.

Also, she apparently sees no irony in her memoir in casually discussing her illegal abortion and having no regret over her dead child, but then several chapters later in a discussion of Earth Day stating that “All life is sacred”! I almost fell over when I read this declaration! I mean these people honestly don’t see the disconnect here?

I can only pray that Collins will accept reponsibility for her lost child, because it so clearly affected her and contributed to the emotional problems she is so public about. Imagine how much could she could do if she did some real soul-searching and joined the brave women who are honest about the horrible effects of abortion on women. It is hard for me to understand how someone who creates such beautiful music could be so out of touch.

I very sadly agree, Jackie. Collins could have had her aborted child to comfort her after her son committed suicide. I am glad for her that she has her granddaughter in her life. But truth to tell, for all the loveliness she once possessed, when I see her now as an elderly lady, she appears witch-like to me. A grandmother, who approves and fights for the killing of innocent babes before they’re born – it sounds like a scary fairy tale. It may be there’s a song in there somewhere…
